In the city I was brought up in , here in the Waikato , Kirikiriroa (Hamilton).  I grew up in a heavely occupied gang neighbour hood in regards to the eyes of colonizers.  Through my eyes it was home and whanau familys , but sometimes the neighbourhood would raise up hell and go to work on different gang affiliates.

Gangs are apart of this society thanks to goverment initiatives that fail my people.  Taking young kids from there homes and putting them in homes that have a high probability of sexual abuse and abuse in general.

Hence the gang culture was born.

Bonnie was brought up in a gang whanau and has been navigating this space since she was born.  She is a leader in many ways and is also a serviver or cancer.
