Brandon Sherwood is the President of Gladly Network and TSC EcoSolutions, two companies that couldn't look more different on the surface but share the same DNA of service and impact. EcoSolutions is a national leader in dental recycling with 35 outside reps buying crowns and bridges from dental offices across the country. Gladly is the next chapter, using that same network to connect small businesses and their employees with purpose-driven brands that actually make life better, not just cheaper.
Brandon has built his career on vision, grit, and the refusal to settle for "good enough." He's obsessed with creating companies that treat people like humans instead of transactions. Gladly exists because he believes work should be about meaning, not just a paycheck and a headache.
He lives in Utah with his wife and four sons, which means his leadership training continues long after business hours. When he's not running companies or coaching soccer, he's usually sleeping because that's about all he has time for.
Hi, this is Pamela Worth with Hello Health Podcast. And today I have Brandon Sherwood. He's the president of Gladly Network and TFC Ecosystems or Solutions, sorry. Two companies that couldn't look more different, but really do share the same DNA of service and impact. Brandon, it's great to have you.
SPEAKER_01Oh thank you for having me.
SPEAKER_00So tell us, you know, you've got obviously the two different entities. Tell us a little bit about EcoSolutions, and then tell us about Gladly. And it's worked right now.
SPEAKER_01It's a good place, good place to start. So EcoSolutions is one of the largest and most successful dental scrap refining companies in the country. So we have uh 40 reps around the country that go and basically buy old crowns and bridges from dentists. Uh, and then uh we refine those down into the precious metals, usually gold and palladium, uh, things like that. And so we've been around since 2011. Um, and uh I was a rep for the company for five years in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and parts of Tennessee. Um, and then I now serve as the uh president uh of the company and basically just make sure everything keeps going. So uh that's Eco Solutions. Uh and then gladly was kind of born out of that. Um the the difficult thing with with dental scrap uh is that nobody's really using precious metals anymore. So we've got kind of a cliff coming where it's not going to be worth it to buy any anything anymore. Uh and so in thinking about that, we tried to think, you know, what what could our reps do that would would help them continue on? What could we do as a company that would help us continue on when that cliff hits? And uh we we thought, you know, we've got all these relationships in dental offices, and what do we do with them? Uh what can we talk to them about that would be of value? Um and one thing led to another. Um, the the mission of uh of TSC EcoSolutions is to bless lives. It's really simple, really short. And so we we took that mission and ran with it uh and formed GLADLE, which um allows our reps to kind of be in-person influencers uh in in offices. And GLADly is uh impact-driven, a purpose-driven um model that basically offers employer organization perks. Um we partner with small uh impact focused businesses and allow offices kind of access to that curated list as well as some other uh some other pieces that become an employee kind of uh culture builder um based on purpose as well. And so that's that's kind of where we're at, gladly is is really new, um, and we're having a lot of fun building it. Uh it's different every day. Um and uh I'm sure Pamela, you you understand that process as well.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, all too well. So what kind of purpose-driven types companies are you working with? Um I believe there there might be um uh a component to it as well, in terms of um a spiritual component or uh um a mission-driven in terms of of that as well. If you want to touch on that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so um we are pretty broad um in what is being impacted from the the partners that we have. Um some it's uh it's a sustainable or an environmental type impact. Uh, maybe they're um recycling, uh, like we've got a partner that recycles plastic bottles into leggings for women. Um really cool. Um and so uh that's obviously you know impactful for the environment. We've got um companies that are are very humanitarian focused. Um so maybe they're maybe they're donating to um with every purchase, donating to a um a charity that provides water in Africa or something like that. Uh and then we have uh kind of a fair trade um component there where um the the company that we're partnered with is is either contracting with uh labor in um a second or third world world country and allowing uh people there to earn an income. Um we have female empowerment focused companies that we're partnered with, we have mental health-focused companies that we're partnered with. Um but along the way, all of them um have some sort of focus on creating a better world, creating something um better for maybe it's individuals, maybe it's uh maybe it's again the earth, um, but doing something that positively makes uh you know makes a difference in the world.
SPEAKER_00And how do the people you work with get this type of benefit? How how do they um feel like they're contributing, receiving? Um how how do you interact with them and and how can people kind of learn more?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so um gladly network.com is is our website, and we've got lots of good resources on there. Um certainly information about our company, but we also have what we call our impact hub, which is um blogs and articles written by other people and infographics and all these different things about um about everything from how how to be positive, how to be uh how to be mentally strong, how how to be uh live a sustainable life, um all these different impacts, but it's very personalized to each person. How how can I do this better? How can I be a better person? Um, and then you know, we we all want to um to have an impact when we buy, right? You know, yes, you can go to the big box stores or or you know uh the the big dot coms. Um and and hopefully we're making an impact when we do that to somebody, um, but it's not really quantifiable. We don't really know how it's helping. Uh, and so we kind of have uh a litmus test of of level of impact um both for the small business that we're we're uh linking to our members as well as um the the impact that they are trying to provide in the world. Uh and so we we kind of have that curated list, we tell everybody what's uh what each company is doing with uh with their impact there. Um and so when you buy something on on Gloudly, you you know number one, it's it's not some giant company that that doesn't care about whether you spend money or not. Um so it's it's somebody that every dollar that you spend is is probably helping their family. Um and and number two, um you can read and you can even search by cause and say, hey, I'm really interested in fair trade companies. Uh what who who's fair trade that I can go in and support that company? Uh and so you can search by cause, you can search by um, you know, our our gladly voices, which are uh kind of our our micro influencers that are out there uh trying to help us uh spread the word about just doing more and being better. Uh so they've got each got collections that they have said, I really like this cause or I really like this product or whatever the case is. And so yeah, it's more or less a curated list of all these things. Um and then on the kind of business or organization side, when uh a small business or an organization joins, uh, we also have um uh an app of sorts that tracks all those purchases and tells us what impact are we making, right? It I've saved this much CO2 from entering the atmosphere, or I've helped this many uh this many women um start their careers, or whatever the case is with those different those different things, as well as providing um what we call impact initiatives. So weekly or monthly challenges, um, things that are are kind of pushing each organization to push their people to be better. Um and we we have a uh kind of a saying that um I've always heard this in the in the terms of family, but I'm gonna say it in the term of an office or a company, um, which is the the coworkers that serve together uh stay together. And so we feel like when a business has um purpose as its main cultural binder, uh that business is going to be more unified. Uh they're gonna people are gonna take more ownership, and in turn, they're gonna be more productive at work because you are more productive when you feel like you're doing something good in the world.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. And so it it definitely is a lot of fun to shop on the site. Um, it looks like it's not only for businesses, but also people can join Gladly. Is that right?
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Absolutely. So we have uh a free individual membership that allows you access to be able to buy within the Gladly Shop. Um, of course, all of our resources in the Impact Hub are free as it is, um, but gives you access to that. Um, and then on the business side, that's where we do have a little bit of a minimal paid membership there just to provide the the impact initiatives and and things like that with the app.
SPEAKER_00That's super now. If somebody wanted to private label this for their company to provide to their employees, do you have any examples of how some of this kind of works or what that may look like for companies?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it's pretty simple, um, honestly. We can, you know, we can change colors, we can add um, you know, brand components, uh logos and things like that. But really the dashboard's simple. It's what have we bought, um, what impact has the buying made, um, what impact have we made in person, locally, community-wise, that we can then input in, um, and then impact initiatives. Uh, and the good thing about the business side of that is we can track all of those things for our entire company. Um, and then uh we can see uh as an office manager, for instance, um, I can see that Sally uh added two hours of community service to her to her impact tracker. Um and I can say, you know what, that's great. I'm gonna reward her. Um here's ten doll for you to go spend in the Gladly store, um, and and we can connect that way. So we're we're trying to create this kind of marketplace and connection that again is just blessing lives, impacting people positively, helping everybody around.
SPEAKER_00Fantastic. Um what sort of what sort of um recommendations do you have for people that are interested in learning more or not really sure how to provide more of an impact in their lives or involve their families or their community or anything like that?
SPEAKER_01You know, just the the the recommendation is do something. Um, right? And and we all kind of I I think it's so overwhelming to think about all of the the negative in the world and you know, I I don't even know if I can make a difference, right? Um, in anybody's life but my own. Uh and um I was talking to my wife about this the other day, and it life is just kind of a a set of failures that we either learn from and move forward, or don't learn learn from and move backwards or stay the same. And so the the key is that you have to make choices, you have to do things for those failures to happen so you can learn and move forward. And you know, if if all you do is say, you know what, we're gonna start recycling in our house, or um I'm gonna smile at everybody that I see on the way to work, or everybody that I see when I go to lunch. Um, you know, you may not feel like that's making a difference, but you're doing something, right? And that's that's the key. Uh try something. If it doesn't work for you, uh back up or think of something else. Um and just just keep going. Right. Uh whether you spend money with Gladly or not, you know, that that's everybody's prerogative. We've got some really cool products, but uh the main thing that that that I would say from from an advice standpoint is just uh just get out there and do something. Do something good. Um and if it's if it's repeatable, great. And then add something else to it, and then something else. Um and it if obviously, you know, if we all did this, then the world would be a much happier, um, much more service-oriented and purpose-oriented place. Um I I'm not naive enough to think that that's gonna happen. Um, but I do uh I am, I guess, naive enough to think um that each person can have uh a lot more of an impact than they think or realize.
SPEAKER_00I appreciate that. Anything else you want to share? Anything else that we forgot to cover?
SPEAKER_01Um no, I I I hate that it feels like I've been talking the whole time.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you're doing a great job. You've got a couple of great pauses.
SPEAKER_01Well, we're we're really excited to also be partnered with Hello Health and to see the things that you're you're building and the wellness that you're trying to create um within families. Uh obviously your story is amazing um and and you know, your why, uh, why this started, why you continue to do it is is awesome. And so we we love that we're we're able to kind of partner with with Hello Health and have your products on our site. And also uh excited to hear more from from Pamela here. We we we wanna we wanna we want to get her opinion. We want to hear more about her her journey and her experiences and how they can help other people.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I appreciate it. And I mean it's it's still very raw and controversial in a lot of circles, but really my my why comes from finding, you know, why my son was diagnosed with autism and an autoimmune disorder that ultimately was reversed by finding out that he had a bacterial infection, uh viral infection, and was not absorbing his vitamins and minerals correctly. And what if we cost effectively could put into the hands of consumers the ability to test and find out if there is something underlying that potentially could completely undo any inflammation that causes disease and illness. And um, I I personally think it's possible. Um, I don't know that we have enough um support and knowledge around why we're feeling chronic symptoms the way we do, but if we can be empowered to understand a little bit more about why those things can be happening and what we can do about them. Um I'm not anti-medicine, I'm not anti-anything. I I do like to understand the why behind why things happen though.
SPEAKER_01So Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Curiosity is has gotten you to this point and and we're everybody that that meets you and everybody that that uh has any part of the Hello Health journey is is glad that you are curious.
SPEAKER_00Yes, asking lots of annoying questions can sometimes be helpful.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_00Well, thank you so much, Brandon. Really looking forward to continuing the journey with you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, thanks, Pamela.
