Growth Instigators Hotline
#386 Do you flap around like the tube people?
Resilience isn't about avoiding challenges but learning to bend without breaking, just like palm trees in hurricanes. We explore the mindset shift from resisting difficulties to adapting and growing through them.
• Anchor your identity beyond circumstances to prevent being crushed by every storm
• Reframe stress as a signal rather than an enemy
• Practice intentional recovery and rest as essential resilience training
• Like palm trees, learn to bend with challenges rather than snap
• Root yourself in what matters while flexing with changes
Visit growthinstigatorscom and let me know how I can help you or your team grow. What storm in your life taught you how to bend instead of break?
You ever watch those inflatable tube people outside car dealerships? You know the ones flapping around in the wind like they're at a dance party. Yeah, those things make me laugh. Sometimes they annoy me too. Is that what it feels like to you when life hits you sideways? Welcome to message 386 of the Growth Instigators Hotline, where we ignite your personal and professional development. I'm Aaron Havens, your host and growth coach.
Speaker 0:Mindset Monday building a resilient mindset. Here's the one big idea I want to land today. Resilience isn't about avoiding the storm. It's about learning how to bend without breaking. Challenges are inevitable Failures, losses, setbacks. They don't care about your five-year plan, but the leaders who rise above aren't the ones who avoid the hits. They're the ones who learn to absorb them, adapt and to keep moving forward.
Speaker 0:Think about a palm tree in a hurricane. Everything else snaps, but palm trees bend and bounce right back. That's resilience the ability to stay rooted in what matters while flexing with the changes. So how do you build it? Three thoughts Anchor your identity. If who you are depends on what happens to you, every storm will crush you. Root yourself deeper than circumstances.
Speaker 0:Second thought Reframe stress. That's right. Stress isn't always the enemy, it's a signal. Ask what's this pressure shaping in me. And the third thought today is practice, recovery, rest. Yeah, reflection and renewal aren't luxuries, they're resilience training. You don't build bounce back by running yourself into the ground. So, yes, take time to recover, to be bored, to rest. Maybe even take a long walk Binge, watch something on Netflix, shoot. Maybe even treat yourself. Take a long walk Binge, watch something on Netflix, shoot. Maybe even treat yourself to a long cigar.
Speaker 0:Psychologist Viktor Frankl, who survived the Holocaust, said it like this when we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. That's resilience in action, not control but adaptability, not denial but growth. So when life throws wind at you this week, maybe even today don't flap around like the tube. People Bend, adjust and then rise straighter, stronger and wiser than before. Thank you for calling Growth Instigators Hotline. I'd love to hear from you.
