#388 Inflatable punch-back clowns

Aaron Havens Season 4 Episode 388

Resilient teams don't avoid setbacks; they bounce back stronger after experiencing them, just like those punch-back clown toys that pop right back up after being knocked down. Recovery speed determines staying power in teams, making resilience an essential quality for long-term success.

• A resilient team isn't one that avoids setbacks, it's one that bounces back stronger after them
• Every team gets knocked down through missed deadlines, lost clients, or failed projects
• Build resilience by normalizing setbacks as part of the growth curve
• Model composure as a leader—if you lose your head, your team will follow suit
• Build trust early so people know they can fail forward without being crushed
• Don't just ask how your team is performing, ask how they're recovering

Visit growthinstigatorscom to share how I can help you or your team grow. When has your team bounced back from a hit and how did it change the way you lead?

Have you ever tried one of those inflatable punch-back clown blow-up things as a kid? Remember those? You blow them up, you hit it, it falls over, it pops right back up over and over. Yeah, those things are awesome. That's resilience and that's what teams need. Welcome to message 388 of the Growth Instigators Hotline, where we ignite your personal and professional development. I'm Aaron Havens, your host and growth coach.

Winning Leadership Wednesday building resilience in teams. Here's the one big idea I want to land today. A resilient team isn't one that avoids setbacks, it's one that bounces back stronger after them. I mean, every team gets knocked down. Deadlines slip, clients leave, you do something wrong, you have to apologize. Projects implode If your team can't absorb the hit and recover. It doesn't matter how talented they are. I mean, as you are today. How tired are you? Do you think you have the strength to push just a little more? So how do you build resilience into your team's DNA? Here's a couple thoughts. Normalize setbacks. Don't treat challenges as catastrophes or catastrophic failures. Treat them as part of the growth curve. If you never fall, you'll never stretch.

Model composure Teams. Take their cues from leaders. If you lose your head, lose your mind, they'll lose theirs. If you steady the ships. They'll row with you. And the last thought is build trust. Early Resilience isn't something you summon out of thin air in crisis. No, it's forged in daily culture where people know they can fail forward without being crushed. As John Maxwell puts it, the greatest mistake we make is living in constant fear that we will make one. Oh, raise your hand if that's you. Resilient teams don't fear the fall. They expect it, prepare for it and they know they'll rise stronger when it happens. So here's your challenge today. Don't just ask how's my team performing. Ask how's my team recovering, because recovery speed determines staying power. Thank you for calling Growth Instigators Hotline. I'd love to hear from you.
