#435 Leaf. Giving out oxygen
What if a simple leaf could reset how you lead? We trace the arc from photosynthesis to culture, showing how healthy leaders absorb stress, confusion, and noise, then release clarity, care, and courage that teams can actually breathe. The metaphor is vivid, but the outcomes are practical: lighter rooms, faster decisions, and people who flourish instead of fizzle.
We walk through the claim that the only thing blocking a healthy culture is poor leadership and unpack what that means in meetings, on the court, at home, and even at the beer bowling league. You’ll hear how to filter bad thinking by upgrading your questions, how to clear out poor habits by simplifying ownership and cadence, and how to replace lack of care with rituals that make empathy concrete. Think of it as photosynthesis for managers, captains, parents, and anyone who wants to set the emotional air others breathe.
Across the conversation, we offer small moves with outsized impact: a weekly “oxygen audit,” starting meetings with crisp context and ending with commitments, naming risks aloud to reduce fear, and celebrating progress without inflating hype. The goal is not to shield your team from reality, but to process the heavy air so people can think, decide, and create with more ease. If you’re ready to turn a common object into a daily reminder to build healthier spaces, this one will stay with you the next time you pass a tree.
We’d love to hear your leaf-inspired leadership lessons. Share your thoughts on the Growth Instigators Hotline or visit growthinstigators.com, then subscribe, leave a review, and pass this along to a leader who could use a breath of fresh air.

Welcome to message 435 of the Growth Insigators Hotline. This week we are talking about a leaf, L E A F, an everyday normal object that we can assign deeper meaning to, something that can remind us of a bigger truth. Welcome to part 5 of 5 as we dive into lessons we can glean from a leaf. Hey Andy from California. I hope you're enjoying the ocean waves today. And thank you for the message you left on the Growth Instigator hotline. In light of photosynthesis, a leaf spends its life taking in sunlight and giving out oxygen for others. So here's the last lesson we will explore from a leaf. The next time you notice a leaf, let it remind you that true leaders create environments where others can breathe, grow, flourish. The only thing standing in the way of a healthy culture is a poor leader. Good leaders set culture. Whether it's on the court, in the home, at the office, or at the beer bowling league, we all impact everywhere we go. May we be a people that absorbs carbon dioxide and releases oxygen. May we filter out the bad stuff and make our places and spaces better. So bad thinking? Nah, in our spaces. Poor habits? Nope. Lack of care? No way. Let's be a people that gives oxygen and life and purpose and laughter and joy to the world around us. That, my friend, is how a common, everyday object can instigate growth. I'd like to hear some more of your observations. What growth lessons can you apply to a leaf? For those of you calling the Growth Instigators Hotline, I'd love to hear your thoughts after the beep. For those of you listening in on our podcast, visit growth instigators.com and send me your thoughts. Let's never see a leaf the same.
