#456 A Welcome Mat. Am I welcoming?
A single word at your doorstep can change how you move through the week. We take the humble welcome mat and turn it into a powerful cue for courage, showing how openness to ideas, feedback, and change builds real momentum. Instead of waiting for big breakthroughs, we practice the yes-principle: one specific decision that stretches you without breaking you, turning fear into data and discomfort into progress.
Together we unpack what it means to be truly welcoming. Are you open to new relationships, to correction that sharpens your craft, to habits that put health first, to opportunities you usually dodge because of anxiety or imposter syndrome? We share a fresh, real-world story of saying yes to a speaking invitation that once felt out of reach, and how preparation, service, and small reps transformed nerves into a confident delivery. That same approach can work in your next meeting, your next pitch, or your next personal milestone.
You’ll leave with a simple, repeatable practice: choose one area of life, define a small welcome action, schedule it, and debrief what you learned. Use the literal mat at your door as a daily reminder to cross a threshold with intention. It’s not about grand gestures; it’s about consistent, evidence-based confidence that compounds. If you’re ready to trade stuck patterns for steady growth, hit play, pick your yes, and step forward.

Welcome to message 456 of the Growth Instigators Hotline where we examine an everyday normal object and assign it deeper meaning. I'm Aaron Havens, your host and growth coach. What can a welcome mat remind us of today and this week? Message 456. Alright. Numbers that mean continuation. Yes, I want that in life. Let's keep freaking doing that. That's right. I have a sneaky feeling that this week is going to be filled with introspective thoughts as we compare our life with the lessons a welcome mat can teach us. This can be a wonderful mnemonic device to remind us of a deeper truth. So every time we see the mat, it means more than just a welcome mat. Here are some of my immediate thoughts. And here's where I go. Am I welcoming, right? Am I welcoming to others? To lessons in life, to trying new things, to new thoughts or ideas, to critical feedback, which can be both good and bad. To correction. Am I open to believe in myself? To lessons the universe is bringing my way? Am I open to relationships and welcome to them? Am I welcoming to changing some less than optimal habits? To declaring my health as a primary priority. On and on. Am I welcoming? So am I welcoming in these things and to these things? It reminds me of the saying uh of the saying yes, quote unquote, principle. If you tend to be a negative thinker or stuck in your ways or scared or filled with anxiety, try saying yes to one thing this week that will push you just a little. My friend gave the world a yes, and now she's speaking to a group of business owners and CEOs this Wednesday. Why? Well, because she's more than capable to do it, but the bigger reason is because she simply said yes to something she would normally say no to because of imposter syndrome or anxiety. Good job, Kim. I'm excited to sit under you as you teach on Wednesday. I know you're going to crush it. So, my friends, are you welcoming? To make a big deal about your life, I'll make you a deal. I'll work on being welcoming right alongside you, doing the same. Deal? What a good lesson from a welcome at. If you have thoughts you'd like to share, I'd love to hear them.
