Growth Instigators Hotline
The Drift Principle
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Drift is the kind of change that sneaks up on you. One day you look up and something about you is different, and you can’t quite name when it happened. I’m Aaron Havens, and in this Growth Instigators Hotline message, I break down why that slow shift happens and why it matters for leadership, habits, and personal growth.
We start with a simple frame: if you’re alive, you’re leading something. That means your standards, your mood, and your daily choices are always pointing somewhere, even when you’re not trying. Drift often shows up as tiny compromises, a corner cut when you’re tired, or a quiet promise to yourself that you stop keeping. It doesn’t feel like a big deal in the moment, which is exactly why it can be so powerful over time.
Then we flip it: drift runs both directions. The same compounding effect that can pull you off course can also build you up. A little kinder today. A little more honest with yourself today. A little better follow-through today. Those 1% gains don’t feel dramatic either, but they add up while you’re not watching, and they shape the kind of leader you become.
If you’ve been feeling “off” lately, this is your prompt to stop and check your direction. Listen, reflect on the questions, and if you want help pointing that drift the right way, come find me at growthinstigators.com. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs a reset, and leave a quick review so more people can find the show.

Welcome And The Leadership Frame
SPEAKER_00You're listening to the Growth Instigators Hotline. I'm Aaron Havens, and this is message 608. If you're alive, you're leading something. And what makes you better at one thing makes you better at all of them. So let's grow.
Noticing The Slow Slide
SPEAKER_00My friends, you ever look up one day and realize something about you just changed? Not on purpose. You never made the call, it just slipped. 1% at a time until one day it was different and you couldn't really put your finger on when it happened. That's drift. It never shows up as a big moment. It's a corner cut here as you were tired. A little promise to yourself you quietly stopped keeping. Each one so small it didn't even register, and that's exactly why it works on you.
Drift Can Build You Up
SPEAKER_00But here's what I want you to catch. Drift runs both directions. The same 1% that can quietly pull you off can quietly build you up. That's right. Show up a little better today, a little kinder, a little more honest with yourself, and you won't feel that either. 1% never feels like anything, it just adds up while you're not watching.
The Self Check And Coaching Invite
SPEAKER_00So the real question isn't whether you're drifting. You are. Everybody is. The question is which way? And the only way to know is to actually look. Not because you don't trust yourself, but because the things that matter are worth a second look. So here's the question today: which way have you been drifting lately? And when's the last time you actually stopped and checked? Oh, and if you want help pointing that drift in the right direction, that's what I do. I'm a growth coach. One on one or with your team, doesn't matter, everything in between. You can find me over at growth instigators.com and let's start a chat. Until next time, go slay the day, my friends.
