Effort Is The Easy Part
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Effort gets applauded, but honesty is what changes you. I’m Aaron Havens, and Message 617 is a short, sharp reminder that hard work can sometimes be a shield. When we don’t know what to do next, “try harder” feels heroic. But if the strategy is wrong, or the skill gap is real, more effort just keeps us busy while the real issue stays untouched.
We talk about why hearing the truth about yourself is so difficult and why your first instinct is often to defend, explain, or “win” the conversation instead of learning from it. I share a plain old line often attributed to Confucius about mistakes and correction, then translate it into modern language: accountability and pride. Pride isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s quiet avoidance, that moment when you know something is off and you choose not to look directly at it.
This message isn’t about self-criticism or beating yourself up. It’s about self-awareness, a growth mindset, and the kind of personal growth that actually sticks. The fastest-growing people aren’t the ones without weaknesses. They’re the ones who stop pretending they don’t have any, take the hit of honest feedback, and put their effort where it will finally pay off.
Press play, sit with the question at the end, and if you want a coach who’ll tell you the truth kindly and help you see clearly, visit growthinstigators.com. If this helped, subscribe, share it with a friend who’s grinding in circles, and leave a review so more people can find the work that matters.

Hotline Intro And Message Setup
SPEAKER_00You're listening to the Growth Instigators Hotline. I'm Aaron Havens, and this is Message 617.
Why Effort Feels So Noble
SPEAKER_00Effort is the easy part. Hearing the truth about yourself is the real work. That sounds backwards, I know. We treat effort like it's the hard thing, the noble thing. Try harder, push more, grind. And don't get me wrong, effort matters. But if you're honest, effort is often the thing we hide behind.
Using Hard Work To Hide
SPEAKER_00It's easier to just work harder at something than to stop and hear that we're not good at it or that we've been going about it all the wrong way. Because working harder still lets you feel like the hero of the story. You're trying, you're giving it everything. Hearing the truth doesn't feel heroic at all. It feels like a loss. Somebody tells you the hard thing. You're not great at this. This isn't working. This part is on you, and everything in you wants to defend, explain, push back, win the conversation instead of learn from it. Effort is the easy part. Hearing the truth about yourself is the real work.
Mistakes, Pride, And Correction
SPEAKER_00Confucius said it plainly a long time ago. The man who makes a mistake and doesn't correct it is making another mistake. The first one's just being human. The second one is pride. It's knowing somewhere that something's off and choosing to look away because looking straight at it costs too
The Fastest Path To Growth
SPEAKER_00much. And here's the thing: this isn't about beating yourself up. It's the opposite. Quite the opposite. The people who grow the fastest aren't the ones with no weak spots. They're the ones who stopped pretending they didn't have any. They got honest, took the hit, and got to work on the real thing instead of pouring efforts into the wrong thing forever. That takes more strength than any amount of grinding. So, the brave move
The Brave Move Is Quiet Honesty
SPEAKER_00today isn't more effort. You've probably got plenty of that. The brave move is to stop, get quiet, and let yourself actually hear the thing you've been working so hard not to hear. Effort is the heart is the easy part. Hearing the truth about yourself is the real work.
One Question And Coaching Invite
SPEAKER_00So here's a question for today. What's one truth about yourself you've been working out instead of just facing? And if you want someone in your corner who'll tell you the truth kindly and help you see some things clearly, that's what I do. I'm a growth coach. Visit me at growth instigators.com.
Closing Charge To Keep Growing
SPEAKER_00Until next time, keep instigating growth in all you do.
