Who Do You Work For Again? The Age Old HR Conundrum. Welp it depends on who you are talking to, the time of day, hour or if that person just got fired or got promoted.  HR is often described as a bridge between employees and management, but structurally, HR  is employed by the organization. Grumble , Grumble. The authority is usually top down from executive leadership too. We exist to recruit, retain, ensure compliance with labor laws and support the culture and performance. But as practitioners we feel that the industry should dictate HR's role and power dynamics.  Why? Because not every organization has the same rules, the same management-employee relationship or the same build. Listen to Council Women Melody Magee describe her many lives in HR spread over several organizations. Some had rules and some were the wild west of maybe we might want to be a little more realistic about the term bring your whole self to work.   From her vast HR knowledge over the years from the Automotive Industry, Entrepreneurship and Local Government, she will expand on how and why HR allegiance is to the organization can be hard but it is our role to steer the ship in the right direction for everyone's sake. Even when you work for an organization whose policy is What Policy?
