It's strawberries and cream, center court, all white outfits, royal appearances, and some of the biggest moments in sporting history. Today's episode is all about welcoming you to Wimbledon 2026. We're talking storylines, favorites, dark horses, predictions, and yes, comebacks. And the players that we think may define this year's championships. Will it be Sasha Zwerev coming off an insane French Open Run? Will it be Novaks making history again? Or will it be someone completely different? Time will tell. Why does Wimbledon feel different? There is just something about Wimbledon that feels different. Every player grows up dreaming of winning the tournament. It isn't just another grand slam. The history, the traditions, the grass courts, the all-white dress code, it all feels really special. Grass is also the shortest season in tennis, which means players have very little time to adjust. Some players thrive, others don't quite find their footing. And then there's obviously the history of center court and center court alone, making it feel extremely important. Now, before we dive too deep into everything, I do want to give a massive shout out to today's sponsor, and they're going to be with us all Wimbledon long, Air Aloe. If you guys don't know what Air Allo is, it is an all-in-one data pack that you can purchase if you're traveling abroad, maybe to Wimbledon or somewhere else, whether you're following the tennis tour or going out on a trip with friends, backpacking, no matter what it is, you can download an easy sim pack from over 200 countries, purchase it with a cheeky little discount below, and get well on your way to still staying connected around the world. I use it, I love it, I wouldn't recommend anything else. Um and yeah, to find out more about Erello, hit that description link below. Alright, guys, we're gonna get into it. The biggest stories of Wimbledon 2026. Let's talk about it. Firstly, Serena Williams is back. At 44 years old, her return is one of the most talked-about stories heading into Wimbledon. Whether she makes a deep run or not, her presence also changes the conversation. Novak Djokovic is once again chasing history. Every year people wonder if this could be his final Wimbledon run, and every year he reminds us why he is the greatest player of all time. Yannick Sinna arrives as a defending champion and current world number one, carrying the pressure that comes with being the player everyone wants to beat. On the women's side, the draw feels incredibly open. Arena Sabalenka, Coco Goff, Elena Rabakina, and Igor Swyantec all have legitimate chances. It's one of those things we don't know what's going to happen, but before we continue with the rest of the show, we're going to get into some day one action so we can see if some of these future predictions, how Serena might go, although she isn't playing today, but let's take a look at who's up on Center Court today. So first up, we have Yannick Sinna taking on Kashmanovic. Um, of course, Yannick has come in as the number one seed, the number one player and defending champion, Carlos Alcarez will not be making an appearance at Roland Garrett, Roland Garrett, at Wimbledon this year. Sorry guys, still trying to get used to the adjustment real quick. Um, we've also got Irina Sabalenka taking on Kostovic coming up. Sabelenka in okay form, not her best form, but definitely okay. Always struggles a little more on grass, I feel personally, than other tournaments. Um let's see how well she goes. Um expected to go deep as well, so I can't imagine this will be too much of a tough first round match for her. Novak Djokovic will take on Wu as well on centre court today. On number one court, we have Yelena Ostepenko taking on Dart. We have Maren Chilich taking on Daniel Medvedev. It is one of the most talked-about matches of the first round. Will Medvedev move past the amazing Croat to move to move forward? Chilich has been around a long time. Medvedev is seeded eight at these championships. How will he go? Will he move through? Let's find out. Chilich is in great form. He's Chilich is not really looking for, of course, everyone's always looking for a deep run, but he's not really looking for that ultimate, whereas Medvedev, I feel like he's won a couple titles this year. He's really looking for that next hit. Uh, we also have Mira Andreva taking on Lynette. Mira Andreva seeded five in the ladies' draw. She is definitely one to watch. She has done extremely well. Um, and yeah, I mean, I think we we all know what can happen uh when she is playing at her best. Number two caught Jessica Pagula, again, another one seeded fourth at this year's championships, taking on Vidmanova. Pagula always does relatively well on grass. Um, she has played well recently, so I think coming in, she is looking like a strong one as well. Uh, we also have Cameron Nuri taking on Zheng, the American, who's always in pretty good form. We'll see how that one goes. I'm sure we'll have the British crowd out on number two court in full support of Cameron Newry, um, who is seated 26th at this tournament. Uh, we also then followed by Oja Aliassim, seated third here this year uh against Chevchenko. Think that will be relatively easy for Oja Eliasim, but we shall see as the day rolls on. Um, Coco Goff, she will take on Kapash. Coco is coming in to Wimbledon seated at number seven in the ladies' draw. Good form. Let's see how she goes. Number three caught Jadar and Gil. Casparude and Hobie Hercaraz. Another matchup. Casparude seated 11th. Hubi unseated this year. I think we're gonna get a five-setter here. I think we're gonna get a long one. It's gonna be one of those, I think, iconic first-round matches that we always look forward to seeing. Um, whether it's first round or final, uh, we always look forward to those really long five-set matches here at Wimbledon. So I think that one's going to be definitely one to watch. Um, then we have Osaka, who's seated number 14 here. She'll take on the Frenchman, Frenchwoman Jamont. And then we have uh former Wimbledon champion Barbara Krujaevic taking on Klugman, the British opponent. Um Brits out in action today as well. Um, unfortunately, Dan Evans, as we know, will not be making an appearance. He did not make it through qualifying, which is pretty sad in his final run, but wishing him all the best. Um, court 12. We have Maya Shilinskaya, of course, seeded 20, um, getting a wild card this year based on her efforts and results at Roland Garris just a few weeks ago. She'll take on Swaran Kev on court 12. Rindakesh and Tarbit also in action today. Caroline Mushova also in action. Brandon Nakashima taking on a local in Pennington Jones. See how that one goes. Nakashima's been playing pretty well this year. Court 18, we have Belinda Bensick taking on Shosavalik. Sorry about the pronunciation. That's a new one to me. Um, then we have Mueller taking on Tommy Pohl. Tommy Paul coming in, seated 21 in the gentleman's singles draw. I do think that we're gonna see a lot from Tommy this tournament. It seems to be a good season for him, a good time in his life all round. So I think we're gonna see a quite a deep run here for Tommy. Um, also another first-round matchup to watch is Jal Fonseca taking on Batista Agout. That again, I think, is going to be definitely a five-setter. Layla Fernandez will take on Zheng. Um got a few, a few other actions here today. We've got Parks in action in the ladies' draw, Nava in the gentleman's singles, Tarante in the gentleman's singles. We've also got McCartney Kessler in the ladies' singles. Yeah, Shimova out on court six. We have Bianca Andrescu, she qualified. We have Dennis Shapovalov also out on court six. Now, make no mistake, these are great matches on these outside courts. We have Kova Sebik and Vanderscholps taking on each other. So the American taking on. We have Boya and Borges taking on each other, Hayden Stearns and Barton Cova also taking on each other. We have the Australian Vulkic taking on Brooksby and Anastasia Podopova taking on Bazez Monero. Again, guys, there is a lot of matches to cover. We're not going to go through every single one because we will be here all night long. We have um Riley Hitchikata in action today as well, Leonard Struff against Sebastian Baez. We also have Christian and Jovic, Lee and Somnez, Quinn and Daderi. So that'll be another one to watch, probably another long one. Um out on court 16, we have Ngaston against Stefanos Sister Pass, Rublev, who is seeded 12 against Safulen. Not sure why he's on court 12, but I'm also not a tournament organizer, so there we go. Davidic Forkina coming off an incredible win just the other day. He'll take on Jay Serendolo. Jones will take on Parry in the ladies' singles as well. And Ruzik is gonna take on a lucky loser that has not been drawn yet, which is obviously rather strange. Um and that just about wraps it up for day one. So, of course, I would say the match to watch for the day in the men's side is Chilich and Medvedev. Um, and then of course, plenty of other amazing matches to watch as we go through the day. We'll tell you also in just a little bit who is going to be playing on day two because we have some amazing matchups. But before we do that, I want to get into my predictions. It's time for predictions, which usually come back to clapping by the second week. Yes, that has been known to happen. It happened last um a few weeks ago at Roland Garrus. Um, so my men's champion pick this year. Let's see, I went with Sasha for Roland Garrus. That was such a weird draw as well. Um, you know what? I as much as I don't want to say it, not because I don't think he's a great player, but I'm gonna go with Yannick, just because he's the defending champion, he's ranked number one. We could see some Dark Horse, could also see a surge from Novak, but it's a little too early to tell in that. Hasn't had too many matches coming in. Um, women's champion. I'm gonna go with Sabalenka. I really, really think that she can do it. I think as long as she puts the belief and faith in herself, I think she can definitely be a Wimbledon champion, whether it's this year or another year, but I think I'm gonna go with it. Uh, Dark Horse for the tournament. Let's go with Maya. I think Maya, given her run at the French Open, I think it's very, very, very, very possible. Um, and my surprise semi-finalist. Serena, let's do it. Um, I'd love for you guys to share your predictions as well because Wimbledon always gives us at least one storyline nobody saw coming. Um, but let's talk about it. What do you guys think about Serena coming back? I also want to know what you guys think in the comments on socials. We're gonna be posting a lot about it. We're gonna be talking about it. Is it is she gonna make it through the singles draw? Is it just going to be doubles with Venus? Will she play? She takes on Maya joint tomorrow in the first round, the Australian. Imagine being Maya, not thinking, you know, at the beginning of this year that you would probably play against Serena anytime soon, um, if not at all. And then here we are at Wimbledon six months later, and that's who you draw in the first round. I cannot imagine what might be going through Maya's head right about now. Um, but you know, there's always a few players who suddenly become the story of Wimbledon. Keep an eye on some of the younger players, making breakthroughs, comeback stories, and the players who seem to find another level on grass. Obviously, Sasha's incredibly solid on grass, Taylor Fritz is incredibly solid on grass, Ben Shelton is good on grass. Um, every year Wimbledon gives us a player who wasn't expected to go deep into the tournament. Grigor is in the tournament, he did get a wild card. We've got Stan's last, like, tournament um last Grand Slam, sorry, if he may end up playing the US Open, but we don't know yet. Um, but definitely his last Wimbledon. So I think we've really got a lot to work with. There is going to be some upsets for sure. That is always the case here at Wimbledon. Um, let's take a look at day two, see what we can expect. So, day two, Tuesday, we have Taylor Townsend taking on Iga Swiantek, Taylor Fritz and Jack Draper. Again, another one. Jack spent some time off the tour rehabbing his injuries. He's got Andy Murray in his coaching box. Taylor Fritz is coming off an unusual season. Um, a lot of publicity around his high profile relationship, seated six, doing rather well. How do we think that's gonna match up? It's a center court showdown tomorrow. I think it's definitely gonna go five sets. Um, some pretty crazy matches tomorrow as well. Um, and then that's followed by Serena Williams and Maya join. And we just talked about that. What was Maya be feeling? What is Serena going to be feeling? First time back at Wimbledon in four years. She's in a different season of life. Is she able to overcome thoughts, emotions, feelings? Is she able to do it? Let's see. Um, on number one court, we have blocks taking on Zwerev. Zwerev, again, coming off a win at the French Open. I think he's got this in the bag to move through at least to the semi-finals. But let's see, can he go back to back? That's everybody's question. Boysen and Rabakana, can she do it? Champion earlier this year in Australia, uh, seeded number two here. Uh Wimbledon, can she do it? The other matchup that everyone is talking about for tomorrow, and I'm gonna go with the match of the men's draw for pretty much round one, Warinka and Berrettini. Obviously, we know Mateo Berrettini is in great form. He's played some amazing matches, he's had some great results in the past couple of months. Stan also has had some great results. This is his final Wimbledon, it's his final year on tour. He's kind of doing like a victory lap. He is a Grand Slam champion already. Like, what is he looking to achieve at this Wimbledon? Who knows? We will see. Elena Svidalina is taking on her Countrywoman Snagar as well on court two tomorrow afternoon. Ben Shelton will be in action as well, as well as um Amanda Anasimova as well. We've then got Navone and Kabali popping up as well tomorrow. Um Katie Bolter. Then her fiance, Alex Diminal, will play after her on court number three. We also have Jakit Mensik in action and Marta Kostiak in action tomorrow as well on court three. Court 12, we've got Kokanakis and Bublik, another five-set prediction coming our way. We've got Francis Tiafo and Atame. That could be an interesting one as well. On the ladies' side, we've got Paulini and Montgomery, we've got Ayala and Zazura. There is a lot of really great matches. We've got on court 18, Day and Keys, Kashnikov and Harris, Dan Sweeney, the Australian, he has made his way through and he'll face Grigor Dimitrov in the first round. That is a big one. Can he take on the Bulgarian and can he win? Time will tell. I'm gonna pick Grigor, but let's see how he goes. We've got Al Naldi in action, Edgevery against Senego, Valentova against Carolina Pluskova, that's court four, court five, we've got Tableau, Blinkova, court six, we've got Zhengen, Duckworth and Greeks four. We have so many matches, guys, it's crazy. We've got Birill and Kerneva, Manorino and Draguette, Altamir and Mulkin, Corinth Muttet, and Marcus Giran, another one that could go five sets in either way. F. Serendulo against Minar. We've got Eva Lees and Diana Schneider seeded 15th this tournament. Elise Mirtons against Siegmund, Roya against Venukova. Then we've got on court 15 Raya Sakri against Halsen, Kruger and Verkic, Michelson and Fernley, Colingong and Arthur Phils, who is seeded 20th here at this tournament. We've also got on the ladies' side one to watch from the first route, Emma Navarro taking on Paola Bedoza on court 16, third up tomorrow. Dashmine and Ferry, Swan and Bagoo. Interesting one. Talia Gibson, Alexi Popran. So we really have a lot of amazing content, a lot of amazing tennis to come. Guys, this Wimbledon, this first round, is shaping up to be amazing. We haven't even talked about the doubles draw. We'll talk about that. The fact that Serena and Venus are playing together in just a little bit of time, not on this episode, but tomorrow. But before we wrap up, let's talk about some things that make Wimbledon so iconic. What is it? Is it the strawberries and cream? Is it the royal box? Is it the all-white dress coat? Is it the quietness of center court before the players walk out? These traditions are what separate Wimbledon from every other tournament in the world. I'm gonna go with the fact, the strawberries and cream, they are amazing. The all-white dress code is something about Wimbledon. It's classy, it's elegant, it gives old money tennis without always being old money tennis. You know, with and as we look at that, let's take a look at the prize money because we always do this for every grand slam. They obviously increased it a little bit. There were some player debates. We don't get into the politics of tennis here on off the court because we have too many opinions and we'll be sitting here all day. Um, but Wimbledon features obviously a record prize money pool this year of £64.2 million, which is equivalent to 85.8 million USD, um, with eagle payouts for both the men's and women's events. So the gentlemen's and ladies singles champions each receive 3.6 million, while first round singles losers are awarded 80 pounds. So the prize money is structured. Let's have a look. So, yeah, first round, you'll get 80 pounds, second round, 126,000 pounds, third round, a round of 32, 185, round of 16, 300,000 pounds, quarter finalist, 480,000 pounds, semifinalist, 900,000 pounds, finalist, 1.8 million pounds, and the champion 3.6 million pounds. So it is still A very how do I put this without sounding negative? It's quite low in comparison to some other tournaments. And the Grand Slam level, it's enough. But in comparison to, you know, $5 million in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and places like that, it is still a ways of a ways to go. Again, we don't get into the politic politics here, but the doubles on the mixed doubles needs to be increased a little bit. You know, first round is only 18,000 pounds per pair. Runners up is 380,000 pounds, and the champions is 760,000 pounds. So mixed doubles receive 148,000 a pair. So you can see we haven't all the way got it yet, but we're got it in the singles draw. So let's see if we can expand on that as things come up. Um, again, like I said, we won't talk too many finances this year, but it has increased to give you guys a fun fact. The gentleman's singles winner um in 1968 only received 2,000 pounds. Okay. It's changed a lot. By 1978, it was 19,000 pounds. By 1985, it was 117,000 pounds. Well, sorry, 130,000 pounds. By the early 2000s, 2003, it was 575,000. 2007, it was 700,000, and 2010, it hit a million. And then we've just sort of gone up from there, it staggered around the million to a million two for quite a few years, three or four years. Um, you know, we've just gone up, it's jumped six hundred thousand dollars since last year. So last year the winner only received three million dollars, um, and it's gone up six hundred thousand. So, you know, it's very interesting when you look at these stats and these formats, um, because yeah, there's still a ways to go, but I personally think that we are in a good season of tennis. We're in a season of equal pay, which is important, um, because that wasn't happening. And here we are. So, with that being said, we are back. Don't forget, guys, that there is an amazing amount of things to do at Wimbledon. It is not all about strawberries and cream. There is an amazing, amazing gift shop there. And just being on the grounds is so iconic. I really want you guys to like, if you're there, take a minute to, you know, just think about it. Just sit there and enjoy and think about the history and all of that. Um, it's just something important. Um, but we're gonna do some little rapid fire predictions. We'll add some more of these as we go through the tournament. But the biggest upset for round one, I think it could be Novak. I'm gonna go with Novak on the men's side. Um breakout player. I really have one, to be fair. Most surprising result, I think we're gonna see Kokonakis win his first round match. Um, player under the most pressure. I would probably say Serena because the whole world is watching this comeback. Um, the match I'm most excited to watch. Um, Warinka Berrini for the first round. Let's go with that. Um, I think that it's pretty obvious that I am a massive Stan Warinka fan. I have been for basically his whole entire career. Um, and we are over here at Off the Court, obviously following closely his final year. So, with that being said, um, officially, welcome back to Wimbledon. Over the next two weeks, here at Off the Court, we'll be bringing you match reactions, tournament updates, standout performances, all of the biggest moments on and off the grass. We're also going to be talking about fashion. We've seen some glimpses. We've seen uh as a as a Renka. Wow, my brain just went back about 10 years. A Sabalenka inspired um Wimbledon-esque collaboration with Material Jewels. So let's see that one. I'm sure Naomi Asaka will bring something amazing, like she does. Um Marta Kostiak has a really cute floral Wilson moment going on. Um it is hard when it's just the one color, but everybody still finds a way to make their outfit unique and their own. So I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the outfits. Um, if you are listening, send us your predictions on who you think is going to be lifting this year's trophies. Do you think Sasha's gonna go back to back? Uh Andreva. What do you guys think? I'm very intrigued to know. So we're here, we're at Wimbledon, we've got it going on, and we are about T minus one hour away from plays. So let's get into it. I hope you guys enjoyed this episode. Thank you again to Air Allo for sponsoring, and we will see you guys tomorrow when we talk all things round one recap. Bye for now.
