Darlene Elder

I have been involved in the world of writing in one way or another for most of my adult life, including journal writing since I was a teenager. I taught mostly middle school for over thirty-five years, beginning in a Baltimore, Maryland, inner-city school and then in a private school in San Antonio, TX, with a brief stint in Aviano, Italy. Early in my teaching career, I published several short stories for teenage girls, articles in writing education journals and local newspapers, and an easy reader that was part of Houghton Mifflin’s first grade reading series. I received a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in the field of writing and used
that throughout my career, whether teaching language arts and English or social studies and history or working with individuals to strengthen their writing. I also developed a creative writing program for grades one – five at the private school in San Antonio.
