Show Notes

You cannot change your life until you change something that you do every day. The reality of making real change, whether it’s starting a business, making more money, or getting in shape, is that most people fail. Take New Year’s resolutions. How many have you broken already? Today we are going to talk about the 1-minute rule to learn anything you want in life and get back on track.

A few years ago, I was going to Thailand for a few months and planned to learn Muay Thai kickboxing while I was there. It’s something I have done before and it is intense. I knew I would have to start conditioning my body ahead of time, so I started running. I am not a runner and it isn’t typically something I enjoy, so how did I motivate myself to start?

I started running for 1 minute a day. You can’t object to 1 minute a day. Then the next day, I ran for 2 minutes, the third day 3 minutes and so on up to 30 days. Now I was running for 30 minutes a day and, more than that, I wasn’t finding it painful and I was enjoying it.

It doesn’t have to be painful to make a change, whether it’s your career, your health or your relationships. Just start with 1 minute a day. Look for a course related to what you want to learn and just start with 1 minute a day dedicated to it. Before you know it, you’ve been doing it for a month and, not only are you doing more of it, but you will be enjoying it and it will be part of your daily routine.
