Hello, this is Todd Castle, and I want to welcome you to the surrendered soul podcast, where Zach Funk and I will discuss real life issues and how to find that ever elusive key to real life and total freedom. Have you ever wondered why you do something or say something that made you feel and wonder, where did that come from? It's how you act or things you do out of character for who you think you are, is how you act around other people, not who you really are. If this is you, or you know someone like this, please stay tuned as today, Zach and I discuss the whys, hows, and the solutions to what to do when my conscious and subconscious mind are out of alignment. If you have questions about this or any of our podcast content, please feel free to send us an email at thesurrenderedsoul24 at gmail. com. That email address again is thesurrenderedsoul24 at gmail. com. Thanks again for listening. Our topic today is that of the conscious and subconscious mind. And our understanding at this point is that our conscious mind takes up about 10 percent of our capacity, and are the balance being that of our subconscious mind. So let's just discuss that, flesh that out. What does that look like? And how do we keep a tight loop in those two areas of our minds? And. Then we want to discuss maybe a little bit, yeah, what those, what offsets, is that natural? Is it unnatural? Those type of things. Yeah, I think the conscious and subconscious mind is, we, I think, focus way more on the conscious mind than the subconscious mind, and the subconscious mind is actually what controls us or runs 90 percent of our life. And I, I've got a list of, a few of the things that differentiate them. the conscious mind is our analytics where we analyze things, where we think, where we plan, our short term memory, our willpower, and our decisions. basically, all of our active, cognitive work processing. Yeah, yep. Yeah, we're subconscious is our long term memory, habits, our dreams, or law of attraction, emotions, values, and beliefs. And I, I was, and studying for this a little bit, they, they say a lot of your subconscious, the foundation, most of it's actually developed before you're like nine and younger. So pretty early on in life, we figure out or have a baseline of how we're going to respond to situations. so basically it's our operating system. It's our core operating system from which everything else comes from would be our subconscious mind and that development. And that would be established more or less in by our parents, by our surroundings, by our environment. everything. I mean, everything feeds into it. And especially in those early years of life, we, a child doesn't have a lot of common sense, so to speak, or life experience. So they're just a sponge soaking up everything. And whatever they're soaking up is their reality. So it's going into our subconscious mind. And that is our reality that we move forward building that foundation. Yeah. So Can we naturally say that the subconscious and conscious are in alignment or would it be more of a natural thing for them to be out of alignment? And how does that non alignment look like? How do we talk? Let's talk about that a bit. How does that look? in What are some signals that it's in alignment? What are some signals that it's out of alignment? And then we'll discuss maybe further on, like how to bring those back into alignment or if that is the goal. I don't know. This is the part, yeah, I'd love to hear a lot of people's feelings on. Because I, I think they're naturally aligned until we realize societal norms, group norms that we find ourselves in. that we start consciously changing, but our subconscious isn't convinced of the change. and then as we grow, I think we can grow them farther and farther out of alignment, if not careful. But I think as a, as a child, I think that's, their conscious and subconscious is aligned because that's all they know. I think it starts changing pretty early in life. Yes. Because we see children already starting to see that misalignment, but yes, there's an innocence in a child that they're just real. They are, they are who they are, and it just comes out in their emotions, in their, if they're disappointed, they'll cry. If they're excited, they laugh. Those, those things are all connected. Whereas we get older, and this doesn't have to be much older, Unfortunately, we, we see a, a disparency between those two, those two things. Um, what would be a cause that what, like what it, what, as we see that differentiation between our conscious and subconscious, what would be something that would cause that to veer out? It could be, I mean, I would say the, the earliest is just going to be societal norms. That, yeah, we don't, yeah, do certain things. Can't think of an example right off, but just, just, trying to think of something like for children that we tell them not, not to do or something. But, but then as it, as we get older, it, it can become moral issues and religious issues that we start. dealing with and struggling with that, yeah, our, our subconscious isn't, that's not the way we were raised. We were raised in our, our subconscious, or some people replace with our body. Our, our body is telling us one thing, which I think is just our subconscious, telling us something and trying to protect us from something. When. Society around us, or our religious group, or, is saying that it's, that it's not that way. And yet, reality is that it is that way around us. And I think that's sometimes why we struggle, because we, we don't want it a certain way. And yet, our subconscious is always gonna pick up on reality, what's actually happening. Not the way we want it. So like in a child's life, I was just trying to think as, as they relate to their, their outside, their, their out there, the world environment would technically be maybe that in the house, that or the family life. their, their inclination might be to obey mom and dad or to do what they were asked to do. because it's the right thing to do and that they should do it, but their consciousness wants to continue to play or wants to continue to, be seen in a certain light with their friends that obedience to the subconscious would not allow for. Does that make sense? Yeah. So something like that or just, yeah, from a child in a. In a unsettled home setting, where, where the, where the child knows that they aren't safe, and their subconscious is gonna pick up on that, and yet the parents are saying that you're okay, you're safe here. Mm hmm. At a very young age, that can start to, yeah. subconscious wants to protect. And so subconsciously they want to flee. They want to hide. They want to cower, but they're being told consciously that no, it's safe. You're fine, whatever, even though the attacks keep coming in whatever form. So with which, and then at that point, and it can go right into adulthood, that's when an individual starts doubting themselves. And then they start telling themselves that, yeah, they aren't, aren't good enough, or they, they start blaming it on themselves, which can start a, a spiral of this, this mental conflict of conscious and subconscious, trying to, to sort them out, and unless it's very, very intentional, a lot of times, the, the mental turmoil can, yeah, follow somebody clear through life. I think there's. the subconscious mind as we think about it being affected by or wanting to install self preservation. as we move into adulthood, that self preservation maybe takes on a form that would not be godly because I think in a child, the innocence of a child is that their conscious and subconscious are aligned. Therefore, I think it's easy to see that that is where God wants us to be. He tells us to come to him as a little child and he calls us his children. And I think that there's a truth in there that, no, this is actually where I want you to be. And then we call it the world forces or whatever it is, our outside world starts pulling at that, but it's actually a satanic pull in our lives. and, and, and, So how much influence would we say that maybe Satan has or the world or our own desires have on creating the, changing that subconscious? I don't know. You mean like actually putting the wrong, the wrong narrative in our, our subconscious? Correct. To where actually the core of who we are is no longer. Correct. And so then I almost wonder if our subconscious, as it becomes polluted, as it becomes out of alignment with God's will, then all of a sudden, not all of a sudden, but gradually our conscious mind tries to keep making up for that discrepancy. And, and I'm thinking in a believer's life, and we try to uphold an image. We try to uphold it, even a, a level of, Lying in our, to ourselves about ourselves. So we lie to make ourselves feel better about ourselves than what we, our core really is. My core is to do evil now because I've lost that innocence as of a child. My core now is to want things that are not healthy or not to want things that are not right. And yet my conscious, is to perform, to put on a mask, to hide the evil that's hidden in my heart. If that makes sense. It does. And I think that's probably where like human nature would come in. Right. And I think that's, yeah, whether we're, I mean, to an element that's there, even with an innocent child, that human nature or early on very early. yeah. but, but I think human nature. Yeah, it will manifest itself more and more in our subconscious, and then in our conscious. But we try, as believers, if we aren't fully surrendered and willing to surrender our subconscious, our conscious mind will be just simply always trying to mask our subconscious. human nature. Exactly. And trying to hide it. Yes. And the longer we go down that path in that turmoil, the, yeah, the, the harder it gets and the more confused we get as individuals. And that opens up a whole nother level of conversation, as we think about the turmoil that goes on in our minds. But I think part of it is our subconscious becomes Polluted and then we start putting on these masks and these masks manifest themselves in a myriad of ways. I, a few of them that I put in here is, is the fear of man. fear of man becomes so big in our minds. and that in itself is manifests in a lot of different ways. low self esteem, bullying, blustering, sarcasm, sarcasm. spiritual pride, secrecy, trying to hide because we don't want people to get too close to us. We, we put a buffer, we put a wall because if you get too close to me, you're going to see the cracks in me. You're going to see the flaws. You're going to see who I really am because at some point, and we'll discuss this a little bit more, but is, is this is manifested through what happens, our response under pressure. And so as we. we are put under, and into a, a difficult situation. Our first response is usually the true response. And that is because we don't have time to get the mask up in place. And yeah, let's just talk about that a little bit. Like, and then the longer we wear the masks, whatever that mask might be. And as we get older, we keep putting on more masks to try to hide that, hide that whole, It's self preservation. Once again, not wanting to expose who I really am. even though now who I really am is so off base from what I want everybody to see and, and what, I even want to admit to myself, but under pressure in the moment, the, the, the, the, initial response will expose that little crack. And if you're too close to me, you're going to see it. It's self preservation. And, so yeah, that's, that's a very difficult, path to walk, but I think it is very, it is extremely common to, to mankind. It is universal in mankind that we have that human nature in us. but I think as we speak about believing and being believers, we are called to out of that and to surrender that, like you said, to To the holy spirit and not be he that we're new creatures. We are reborn and that is the man that needs to be put down. so there are some evidences of this misalignment. and, and what are some of those, ways that we can discover this discrepancies in our lives? Well, I think you touched on some of that whole under pressure thing because we I mean, how many times have you heard somebody say that you gotta give somebody a break because it was a stressful time? Yeah. Or, I mean, being on the fire department, I mean, it's something that you see somebody on their worst day like they're gonna do weird things. And, and it's true. But, for myself, really, those sections in life are really the only ones I'm interested in. Because how I can act Sunday morning is really pointless. It's looking back and they're typically really short snippets of high pressure times. Yes. Yeah. And exactly how I act there is actually who I am. Everything else is Nolan Voight. How I can act on a normal day is really useless information because anybody can use that. And that is, I think, really important to all those little snippets in life when we do things and it's like, wow, where did that come from? Or why did I react that way? Those are all the snippets that we need to work with. All the rest of it we can just ignore. It's a mask of some sort. Yeah. Well, it hits a, hits a mask or hits. I mean, as we work on our subconscious, it's not necessarily a mask, but it's just easy. Or it's being filtered by our conscious, and it always will be until we get under pressure in our, because I, I forget the exact numbers, but our conscious mind is very, very slow. And that, that's why we start acting differently under pressure because our conscious mind cannot keep up. So it has to step off to the side or subconscious mind can operate way faster. Correct. so we end up acting out of our subconscious mind and we can do if our subconscious mind, if we're working on it, we'll end up doing things that we didn't even realize were possible. Or that we could actually do certain tasks flawlessly that fast. And one of them that's a, a small one that showed it to me the, the biggest was one, one night the smoke alarm went off in the basement and we have a door to the basement So I went flying downstairs and walked up to the door and put the back of my hand on the door. I didn't even think about it till I was clear through the door. Why I even did it or what it, yeah. But it was looking back on it. It's like, well, dude, I mean, I had thought about it. I had, it was in the subconscious that you never open a door. If you think a fire might be on the other side of it without feeling the door. I didn't even think about it until I was clear through the door. I had processed it and I was on the other side without even, yeah. thinking about it. And I think that you'll start seeing that in greater ways of just reactions with individuals, where something will happen and you used to lash out. You used to respond differently. And suddenly it's different. It's nothing. And I think, yeah, and I think that's a very good point. The point being is that often we won't see it ourselves. Either. Other people will see that change in us or we'll look back and see the change in us. But at the moment it's subconscious. So therefore by definition it's not conscious. We're not thinking of it. So we look back and be like, you know what? That, I can see, I can see where God's working in my life to bring me to where he and I, and we, and that's a moment when it becomes when our subconscious correction, when the correction of our subconscious becomes conscious is a moment of gratitude. We need to be thankful for him working in our lives and that patience he's had with us and maybe to our wives and those around us as well. cause they've been watching the journey as well. but that, that moment of. realization in our own minds that our subconscious is actually going towards the right direction for once. maybe for the first time in our lives, we can have that gratitude that is, is, well, we should have in our lives. as we think about the inconsistencies between our conscious and subconscious, that is by almost by definition, textbook hypocrisy. and, and we use hypocrisy in a couple of different ways and, and, and in different scenarios, but there is a, that, that discrepancy between it. And so I think as we think about hypocrisy, it has a lot of the same characteristics or it is the same characteristics. when we see the misalignment of our conscious and subconscious and, and the necessity in our lives to bring that back. And, And I guess I would like to discuss a little bit like that whole point of necessity. Why should this matter to me? Why is it that I need to be conscious of this misalignment? Well, I think it's really the only way that we can If, if we aren't willing to acknowledge it, then we're going to constantly be going through life and excusing ourselves for these situations when we're under pressure. And, sadly, it's accepted in our society that you just excuse somebody for doing something totally out of nature or totally out of character when they're under pressure. That we, we've just accepted. and just we give somebody a lot more leeway when, when they're, when they're under pressure. And that, and for, for me, I'm willing to give somebody leeway for that because in the understanding that the mass majority of people aren't willing to go down the path of aligning the conscious and subconscious mind. But for, for myself, Well, like I said earlier, it's incredibly important that those times under pressure is actually who I am, not the other times. There's no need for excuse or anything, but those are the times that I need to take and then work on those areas and start digging into why I reacted that way. So I think your question was why, why is it important? I think if, when our conscious and subconscious mind isn't aligned. We're always going to be in that turmoil of being afraid of stressful situations. We'll find ourselves avoiding stressful situations, avoiding conflict, and obviously by avoiding them is going to make them worse. So and then our, even our conscious life around us is going to become more torn, turmoil and problematic, which is only going to verify. our subconscious and that it just it becomes a vicious circle of you mentioned these masks yeah where we just keep protecting ourselves more and more instead of actually just putting it out there and yeah i acted this way under pressure and that is who i am so therefore i need to work on that and start yeah work on that area and just start working on them one at a time and it's yeah painful and takes time but but when we As we start working on that, we will actually invite and points of tension and conflict and all that stuff will, will happily walk into them instead of, instead of avoiding them all the time. Yeah. And I think there's, there's a spiritual element to this that is unavoidable. Oh yeah. cause I would think it would be accurate to say that. The world is in that same wrestling match 24 7 But The church is should not to be and I don't think a Christian should be we should not be in that Not that as a babe in Christ, we wouldn't be obviously we're coming away from that but I think that a a path of maturity a path towards maturity would be You This is the path. This is like, if it's, if it's not the path, it is extremely foundational to walking the path. And I think if, if we were going to call ourselves a Christian and call ourselves a follower of Christ and not deal with this alignment of our conscious versus a subconscious, we're fooling ourselves. We're not fooling God. We're not fooling the Holy Spirit. But we have a massive and maybe. I don't think I can overstate it. How big of a, of a, of a, of a wall we've put up that is not surrendered in our lives, an area of our lives. We've got massive landmass in our lives that are not surrendered to the kingdom of God. And so for us to allow for that disparage between conscious and subconscious, Is to allow a lot of room for Satan, a lot of room for my flesh, a lot of room for the, the, the desires of my flesh and the world around me to stake a claim in my life. because it's, it's a math and God, Jesus talks about this in a couple of different areas, but he, he, he. He particularly tells us to cast down imaginations. And he, he talks about how if we're going to be children of the light, we need to walk in the light. And, and, and this, this disparagement between our conscious and our subconscious is walking in darkness. Our subconscious wants to stay hidden. Our subconscious wants to stay where, it can't be exposed. It can't be seen as it truly is. I don't want to be seen as I truly am because of my consciousness. Sin in my life of, of pride, and that's manifested in a myriad of ways. As we, as we spoke about, but he, Jesus talks about needing to bring that under subjection to the Holy Spirit. And I think that if we're not on that path, if we're not actively working daily to course correct, allow the Holy Spirit to course correct us and also allowing. for our conscious mind to be willing to be vulnerable to the, correction that would bring correction to our subconscious mind. I don't know what your, what's your thoughts on, on that concept? No, I think you're, yeah, absolutely right. So you're, you're thinking that as believers that the excuse or disclaimer that I mentioned earlier Should not be, should, should rename, not rename that the, the idea that I reacted this way because I was under pressure like, well, absolutely. Yeah, we, we should be able to call each other out. Absolutely. Situation. Yes. And, and, and I want to talk about that a little bit more later on to the psych. Some ways we can work on this, this concept, and, and bringing those things into alignment, is, is to be Ruthlessly honest, ruthlessly raw, ruthlessly vulnerable, and ask myself that question, how free do I want to be? How aligned do I want that to be? and, and a lie that we tell ourselves and a lie that Satan tells us is that it's okay to have a little bit of compromise in our life. It's okay to, it's not a big deal. We can just brush over it. but that's not what Jesus is calling to us. And, and And when we think about the Holy Spirit working in our lives, he doesn't want just to leave a mess over in that corner. It's like, no, he actually wants that alignment. He wants to be able to work fully in and through us that our natural response to it under pressure or not under pressure is exactly the same. if, if, if I hit my, my thumb with a hammer, my response should be just as holy as if, if, if, I guess if I hit my thumb on the hammer by myself in the basement versus in the middle of a church service, it should be exactly the same. Or if I'm sitting around with brothers, it should, I, my, my, who I really am should be exactly the same. And I can be vulnerable and I can be submissive to that. I can be weak in that, but that is strength. That is life. That is light. And the kicking and screaming of my, of my subconscious, initially is hard to put down, because it doesn't want to do that. It, it does. And I, I think some of it, and I'm not even sure how to totally break it down, but, but we're saying that the subconscious mind wants to stay in the darkness. And I, does it, like, almost like we're talking about the subconscious mind as an entity. And I think the subconscious mind is basically a library. Okay. Of stuff that we've put in it. But the, the hard part is, is, it doesn't just, all because we consciously tell it to delete a part, it doesn't just delete it. Because it's based in self preservation. It's based in self preservation, but it's, and it's based in reality. So all, so all because we consciously want to do better. Right. That's not enough. Exactly. If, if we aren't going to actually do better and, and that's, yeah, a little bit farther down getting into how we actually want to walk this out is where like, if we don't actually do better. We can actually our subconscious will just say, see, I didn't delete that because we actually aren't doing better. Like this is actually how we are. And so I think that's, I think, yeah, it's, I don't know if our subconscious is an entity and wants to do bad as much as we, we in, in and of ourselves, can't rewrite, I don't think, and surrender our subconscious mind. I would agree. Yeah. Cause he, our, our human nature is in there and we, we don't even have the power, all the, there's books out there and everything about this. What is it? Self talk, self talk and everything. We can alter our subconscious some with self talk, but it's going to be, it's going to be limited. It's only going to take us so far. Well, and, and, and to that point, that is true in a lot of areas in our Christian life. Yeah. we could white knuckle and not sin, but that does not cure the desire for the sin. That does not cure the, the, the sin itself. It just simply pushes it back a bit. And, and, and at best we've just bought some time. we have not taken care of the issue at all. We put a Band Aid on it, at best. And that's not, that is not the correct. I, to your, to your point on, on that concept, the, I was in a situation one time under a tremendous amount of stress. And I kept saying that I wanted to do different. I want to change. I don't want to be this way. And, and the guy I was talking to was extremely, he was more vehement than I was even, although he was under the dress that I was under. That I was lying and he flat out called me a liar and that created all kinds of grief in me. But the truth is he was, that was the truth. I was lying because I said I want to, but I was not willing to do what I needed to do to allow that conscious subconscious to be corrected. And I think this is interesting as we think about the conscious going back to the child, as we were started. So our, our, if our conscious, if our subconscious mind. is constantly trying to preserve us. If it's, if it's in constant self preservation mode, as we in its innocence and it's in its pure form as a, as a young child, that's a good thing. As we corrupt that, allow that subconscious to become corrupted. It's still in self preservation mode. And so that's what I was talking about, like living in darkness or wanting to be in darkness and wanting to be hid because it's still in self preservation mode. It's still trying to say, no, this is the real reality and, and often it's true. this is actually who I really am. This is the core operating system that I run by. And I like your concept, your analogy of the library. There are some books in there that just need to be tossed. but it doesn't just toss automatically. so let's talk about some of these, some ways that we can get rid of some of the, some of the, files in our system that need to be deleted at a core level. Well, I think that's one of, one of the reasons it's so hard is because part of our subconscious is our emotions, habits, and everything. reconstructing it sometimes doesn't feel natural at all. Because we'll be in situations that should be That, that we should be comfortable with, or we should be able to enjoy, or we should be okay with, but in that library, if for some reason in the past, our subconscious connects that with a negative situation, we, we will continue to play that, that this situation isn't comfortable, I shouldn't be here, or whatever it is. and, and this, this comes in huge with somebody coming out of like a, a false religion and coming to Christ. They've been told things their whole entire life that this is wrong, that this isn't true, or whatever. And somehow they have to reprogram that in the deepest core. I mean, a lot of times it's just called false guilt is, is what it is. They'll mm-hmm, so I think we deal with that a lot. And I think we have to be willing to, through His Word and the Holy Spirit, to be, I think it's always good to be hyper in tuned with Him, but maybe like extra when we're dealing with that false guilt, and actually just rely on Him if this is the right way. And then, He will, if we're willing, to surrender our subconscious and open, he will continue to re, and I, I think, I don't know where it's found, but it talks about the renewing of the mind. I think that's what that, that's the subconscious, not the conscious mind. And that's what we need that renewing. And I, that's the only way to get that out of there is to actually be willing to allow him to renew our mind. And it might take us a path of walking where we feel like we're going the wrong way. It's not natural. It doesn't feel natural because it hasn't been natural for however many years. Yeah. Yeah. And that there will, and depending on our situation, like I said, somebody coming out of a, a false religion, it could be real heavy guilt for a time. So it depends on the past. But overall, if We're going to continue to grow. There's always going to be these little areas that he's asking us to surrender that we may have to go against our, our will, our subconscious and, and step into situations that we, that we aren't, aren't comfortable with. Well, and there, there's that, and there's a whole concept to that he will in his desire. we have to realize a couple of things. One is Satan loves that discrepancy, right? That misalignment. Mm-Hmm. but there's another truth that's way more powerful and that is that Jesus loves the alignment and so in and through his Holy Spirit, he is trying constantly to bring us into situations that will cause us maybe some uncomfort discomfort that will force us to expose those mo points of misalignment, those points that are not where. He would ultimately where he wants us to be, but in that are that our profession and our, possession need to line up. And, and, and so he, he will, in his love, in his mercy, put us possibly in some very uncomfortable situations to expose that. And maybe we won't see it at the moment, but somebody he has put into our life, but An accountability partner or just those around us will see it and call us out on it. It feels uncomfortable. It's not, it's maybe ugly, but it's for our good. It's for the alignment. That's what his whole experience leading me into. And that I think as one of the signs, and we'll talk a bit more about this, but one of the signs that things are starting to move in the right direction is our love for that. We will hate it at first because our, Subconscious is going to scream out against that and fight that. and, and, and as you said, as our human nature is diametrically opposed to that alignment. but as that is cleaned and as that is healed and as that is, as, as those old hurts, those old triggers are put under the blood and surrender to the cross. Then he brings healing and peace into those areas and then we can use those as forces of strength And now all of a sudden it's like no actually if there's more I want because look what he's done already I want more of that and I think that's the beauty of the holy spirit is he he is Loving and kind but he's also Firm and he's like no actually I want that for you as well So we're going to walk through this very uncomfortable situation You You don't see it coming but here it comes and it's for your good And that's a very difficult thing to walk. I've had yeah, i'm still working on that. But Yeah, jesus says that we're to walk in the light as he is the light and there's no darkness in him at all and so If we are to be in his image, we have to allow those areas of darkness to be removed by him one area that And it pertains to the mind you talked about the renewing of the mind I think that is That is, that is a fruit of the spirit is the renewing of our mind. That is a fruit of maturity. but one area, one way that I've found has really been helpful for me is to actually have, and you've mentioned it before, having a tight loop between our consciousness, our subconscious. And that is, in, in second Corinthians 10, five, it talks about bringing every thought into captivity. And so a lot of times, I have found that it's that first thought. It's like, no, actually that is rooted in pride and, and Jesus, I need you to take captive that. And, and it says that we cast down every imagination and bring into captivity, every thought to the obedience of Christ. And to me, that is so powerful. I've had thoughts in my head. I have had thoughts come to my consciousness that has not been, that I realized that that is not. Cool. That is not what I want. It's rooted in pride. It's whatever it is. Maybe it's an image of my past or whatever. And I can, and there's been times when I've had to say it audibly, but he hears us even in our silence, like Jesus, take captive that thought. And I have tested the Lord. And I don't know if this is the right theologically correct, but I have tested him in that. And I have actually had multiple, multiple times when I cannot retrieve that thought, he will actively. Take captive. And I think that is so beautiful because he shows his heart towards bringing alignment. And, I just am grateful for that. another area of this too, then is that we need to learn to fear our own thinking because a lot of times it's our own thinking that gets us into trouble. scripture talks about, Lean not on our own understanding trust in Lord with all of our heart and lean not in our own understanding our own thinking messes with our heads so to speak because logic it just makes sense and Yet that is contrary molt often. That is very contrary to God's will for our lives and To our subconscious where we want our subconscious to go, but I so let's talk about this concept of training our subconscious. What does that look like? Well, I think we touched on a little bit as far as allowing the Holy Spirit to, to renew our minds. But I think on a daily basis you mentioned the, the loop and I, I think at least for myself, yeah, that the idea of, And anytime we do find ourselves in a situation that we're responding subconsciously to something, we have to take full responsibility, full responsibility for that and actually, and actually live in that and accept it. And, and oftentimes that will bring us to, that we will need to repent for it. We actually, and we need to like, take it serious enough that we feel that we need to repent for it. That this isn't something that just happened because I was in a stressful situation. But we did it. That, that is actually who we are. And, and then, and that, that conscious, basically taking a subconscious situation and bring it into, into our conscious and working on, and sometimes we won't know. I mean, that's what I was thinking. Won't know why we acted that way, that we just have to put it before the cross. I acted this way. I did do it and I need to repent for it and yeah, ask for forgiveness and, and move on. We can't beat ourselves up over it, but we can move forward realizing what it was. And for me. There's sometimes where we, we know, we already know why we did it. It's like, well, we, yeah, we, we can connect it to something in the past that it's like that. That's why that happened. But there are other times. Yeah. For me that it took some serious, some serious wrestling with why something keeps happening. Like when I'm put into certain situations, this happened and I, and I couldn't connect it to why or what, but, but for myself, if I was willing. to take responsibility for it, put it before the cross over and over again. There, there's some stuff that I'm still not sure why, but the Holy Spirit still was able to walk through to where I don't respond that way anymore. Mm hmm. And so I think, yeah, take, taking responsibility. And that sounds like self talk almost when I say take responsibility, but I think we need to take responsibility for it in a way. It's about being brutally honest. Yeah. And that we repent for it. Not that we can change it through self talk. Correct. We have to rely on the Holy Spirit to change it. Right. But we have to take responsibility for it and not just say that I was under pressure. Don't let me do it again, God. Right. Like we have to admit that that is who we are. And part of that too, You mentioned it and I didn't want to interrupt you, but you mentioned about, well, I see, okay, I see the cause of that being something in my past, but there is a tendency in all of us to justify because of that. And therefore we blame it to that point rather than saying, no, this is actually has to be corrected. I need to confess this. I need to repent and I need to lay this down. And like you said, multiple times, maybe, but just because we can attach a cause to it, as my point, just because we can attach a cause to it, doesn't justify the point. And and, and then there's another element of what you were talking about that stood out to me as well is there are times when I'm not going to realize it in myself, or maybe I realize, maybe I saw it, but I didn't realize the air of it. So I realized, and I admit that I acted that way, but I don't see there's anything wrong with how I acted. And it takes somebody who is walking alongside of you, who is observing you and be like, no, actually that was not the proper way. And you're like, and you've done this for me. It's like, there's times when I will react and, and you'll be like, let's go back to yesterday. This is what happened. And yeah, that's what happened. And, and, and in my, Delusion, in my self preservation, maybe I didn't want to see that there was anything wrong with what I said or did. but you have pointed out that no, actually that wasn't who we are. That's not actually what we want to portray. And that's not the will of God in our lives. And so then that's on my responsibility then to repent, to repent. Go back to the cross and maybe I don't even fully understand why it was wrong at the point But like you said the holy spirit still is working in that and then we look back and be like, you know, actually This is a better course. I don't know why that was the way it was, but this is a better course and I appreciate the light, so yeah, so to that point I think having somebody Watch our back so to speak is extremely and it has to be a true mirror It can't just be somebody who's going to you know Flatter us. It has to be someone who's willing to like, you know what? Actually, that was wrong. And you need to course correct here. And it's not that it's not a pointing a finger as much as it is coming alongside and saying, let's, you know, I, I understand cause I've been there or whatever the case may be. we walked through this together and with the same focus, the same goal of bringing a conscious and subconscious into alignment and walking. I think that's why God gives us a body is to walk with each other, and, and, and allowing that to happen and help Course correct each other. and I think to kind of reiterate part of that, it, it, the crew, the crucial thing is to confess it and to repent of that and to allow the Lord to, to be honest and say, I have some faulty thinking. I have some faulty files. I have some issues that this is actually core who I am and Lord. Renew that. Change that. And it may get ugly for a bit. That's okay, Lord. Well, I think it will. Like I said, there's a whole spectrum on how, yeah, how ugly it may get. But I think there are times, yeah, where we have to, yeah, become brutally honest with ourselves that this is actually who we are at the core. Like this is And we have to Surrender that. Like I said, I think there, there's a, a marrying together of the Holy Spirit and our lives that we try to separate sometimes. I shouldn't say our lives, our, our, our natural body, our mind that we try to separate. And we just want the Holy Spirit just change me. And we don't realize that, I don't know, at least personally, I think the whole self talk and the Holy Spirit together. Is what it takes. Mm-Hmm. We, we do have to, and when I say self-talk, we do have to actually consciously pursue talk and consciously Mm-Hmm. communicate with the Holy Spirit. Mm-Hmm. and surrender our subconscious. Mm-Hmm. And that we will, it's not something that we can just ask him and he'll do. We actually have to walk it out. Mm-Hmm. to convince our subconscious. that this is the way to go, that we are, yeah, gonna, gonna live different, that we are gonna accept God's economy and not this world's economy, because there's all kinds of situations that we're going to find ourselves in, that God's economy, God's responses aren't going to be the responses around us, aren't going to be the world's responses. And, and yet we're constantly bombarded. from very early age of the world's economy. And that's what we're driven to, to live in. So I, I think it does take a, a constant, yeah, like I said, whether you call it self talk or what, but it's more than just, we, we've got to do our part in openly changing our, our minds, our conscious mindset. in the way we deal with things. And then, yeah, with the, like I said, when, when things aren't in alignment, we have to acknowledge them and repent and continue the, the loop of purification and allowing him to, to continue to rewrite our subconscious mind. Yeah, I think that's borne out really well. Strongly in scripture the if then concept and so many times God said if my people will do this Then I will this and we can always count on that. He will do the then he will be there But he does ask us to walk a walk. He does ask us So so to put it in the case of point today, we're discussing this whole concept of a tight loop It's actually he's he's He does expect us to pursue him. He expects us to seek him with our whole heart. He expects us to want to, spend time with him. anything that you're truly desiring. Like I asked earlier, like how much do I truly want it? How much do I truly want freedom in this area? How much do I truly want alignment? how much do I truly want to walk in the light? And that, those, that desire needs to be. to start walking that direction. so I want to spend if, if, if, if I love my wife or if I love my children, if I love a friend, I will want to spend time with that person. I will want to learn what their interests are. I will want to, yeah, my time becomes secondary to their time now and to be in their presence is. a joy. It's a desire of my heart. And and I think it's no less and way more important for the Holy Spirit. He, He is a person and He wants to be with us. But if we don't want to be with Him, which we haven't. if we're, if we're allowing this disparaging in our lives, but if we spend more time with him, if we set aside our physical time to spend with Holy Spirit, to, to look at scriptures, to read scriptures, to meditate, just to sit in prayer and, and communication and through praise and, and gratitude and, and just humility, allowing that to walk in our lives. He then can start doing the work that he says. So if you will, then I will. And I, I think that's a principle that we, negate. A lot of times we, we, it's, it's not a check the box do, but it's more a B it's like, no, I want to be here for you. I want to be present. I want when you talk to me, I want to be, mentally present for you, to listen, to hear and revelations. It talks about he that who has ears to hear, let him hear. And we all have ears and they're all designed to hear, but obviously we don't all hear. And I think that's the point that the Holy spirit wants us to, he's like, no, actually, I want you to be present when I talk. and an indication of manifestation of alignment of our conscious and subconscious. is going to be that we will want to spend time with him. We will want to have that light poured into us, and we will want that course correction in our lives. Well, like, yeah, I agree with that, and I think when, when you were talking, I was trying to think what I was trying to say before, before, and I think maybe a better way to put it is, is we need to invite the Holy Spirit into our situations. And instead of just simply wanting him to guide us and direct us and help us to not sin. Generically, yes. But actually, when we do have an instance in life, to actually ask him to speak into that specific situation, come into that exact situation and show me what is there, what I did wrong, what, yeah, I did right, what I need to repent of. Because like you said, there's times that we. we won't know, and there's times that he will use brothers and sisters around us, but I think, oftentimes in, in tense situations, it's, we need to work on it, but it's awful hard for him to find somebody to be honest enough with us, and actually call us out on, yeah, what, what needs, whereas in situations, the, yeah, if we're willing to invite him into the exact situation. He'll call us out if need to. Absolutely. Yeah. And he'll use whatever means he needs. Yeah. yeah. A lot of people are like, well, how do I know if it's the Holy Spirit or my own thinking? It's like, I read this once and I think it's so true. It's like, I don't have to trust my ability to hear the Holy Spirit. I just need to trust his ability to communicate with me. And that opens up the entire world around me. My entire environment could be him speaking to me To try to bring light to whatever that situation is and I appreciate that thought he is a gentleman He's not going to force his way into it but he loves to be asked with a heart that's sincere just so many times right now Particularly in our culture. It seems like there's a big movement to well The holy spirit the holy spirit this the holy spirit this and he's getting bantered around as some sort of a superpower and That's not a relationship with the holy spirit that is not This Holy Spirit that knows the deepest things of God and who is drawing us towards Jesus. if the spirit that we're discussing at that level, I would say is not the Holy Spirit is a spirit, but it's not the Holy Spirit. And that spirit, is not going to try to bring unity between our conscious and subconscious mind. It is actually going to go the other direction, but it's going to allow us to be in the deception that it is being, The right spirit, Satan, Lucifer dresses up as an angel of light in order to deceive us. And he is doing that, I think very well in the culture and Christian churches today is there's a false sense of peace. There's a false sense of alignment between our conscious and subconscious wouldn't actually go opposite polar opposite. And and, and I think part of that is the reliance on the Holy spirit to show us truth. he wants to expose the false but we have to be willing to allow that to be opened up in it. It hurts sometimes. Yeah, that's a whole nother hearing the Holy Spirit. And yeah, that's a whole nother topic. I don't know if we want to go down that today of how the the Holy Spirit's yeah, virtually being abused today misused by people. So yeah, that's definitely a an issue. So Well, it looks like we're about an hour in. What a, what haven't we covered here? Well, I'd say overall, in, in general, in my thinking of conclusion here is that the only real answer to our alignment of our conscious mind and our subconscious mind, as we mentioned earlier, is confession. It is repentance, it is humility, it is surrendering, it's giving it up, at the cross for all areas. that we're shown that are and and surrendering that back into God's control. As we mentioned, his little Children, they are aligned. As we got out of alignment, we just need to allow God to bring that back into it. We're gonna have to become like little Children again. We're gonna have to be submissive and we're gonna have to surrender and we're gonna be vulnerable and we're gonna be willing to let things hurt and let things bleed. But that's okay. That's where healing comes. The The, the cleaning out of the bacteria and the gunk in that wound needs to be, needs to be done. And that's only done through God and through the work of His Holy Spirit in our lives. Yeah, I think the, along with that, one, one of the, the only ways we're going to be able to surrender our subconscious is if we're actually willing to, to not put a time or energy price Put any limits on it. Yeah. Because it hits gonna, I mean, we're gonna have to be willing to do it at all costs. Allow it to be done. Yes. Allow it to be done for in whatever, whatever way, whatever time frame, whatever it's going to take. Because, yeah, we will have to be put in situations that we don't, we can't see the outcome. We don't know what the outcome is going to be. And yeah, if we aren't willing to, yeah, to, to surrender those. Yeah, that'll never, we'll never see the true, true fruits of it, of what it is. And I think oftentimes that's where it's hard to be honest with ourselves and with the Holy Spirit about what's actually in there and what actually needs to happen. And yeah, we kind of, I think sometimes we, we view it as subconscious, as long as we can, have the conscious clean, that's kind of where we want. That's a good point, yeah. That, that's, as long as that, because we all, we, we call it human nature, and we say we'll always live with the human nature. That's true, we will always live with human nature, but human nature doesn't have to rule our subconscious. It can't, as a Christian. It can't, but I think that's, I hate to say it, but I think way too many Christians clean up the conscious mind. That's correct. And that's where it stops. Right. They, they aren't willing to go through the energy, go through the effort, because I think the human nature will always be there. And that's why I said, we'll always have that loop from conscious to subconscious that anytime we have a situation where something happens, we have to take that to the cross and we have to continue. And I think that the more we do it, the faster we can have that loop. The more in tune with the Holy Spirit, we will be, and the less human nature will have its effect or be in control, but it's going to always be there. We always have to keep that loop of we were in this situation. Did I handle it right? I didn't, because as long as we live, we're going to always be growing. We're going to always handle stuff a little bit wrong, and we can always be. purifying more and ridding that. But I think we can't, we cannot just accept that the human nature is at a subconscious level and we're just filtering human nature as it comes out. Right. And I think that's, that's a trap that, well, it's a trap and it's an, the problem is it's an accepted trap, right? It's where we've, like I said, we, we commonly excuse people for doing things in high stress situations. When actually there shouldn't be any excuse. It should just be a point to start walking with somebody through that journey of purification, instead of just excusing it and letting it go. Right. Paul mentioned it. He said, I die daily. Yeah. And Jesus said, take up your cross daily and follow me. It's, it's a continual walk of repentance. And, one of the things, the hardest, hardest areas for me was to give up was the whole point of, reputation. And that's where our consciousness wants to protect our reputation because we've created this facade. And to see that wrecked and torn down is just everything in you screams against that. and yet that's how a rebuilding starts. And when we're willing to give that up and let that reputation fall to shatters on the floor and let him build what he wants to build, he can build way More beautiful, than what we ever did, but it's not about us anymore. It's about him and what he's doing. Thank you for listening to this edition of the Surrendered Soul podcast.
