In today's episode, Carrie hosts young adult camp administrators Evie Merkur and Jill Carroll. In our discussion we tackle topics that camp administrators and counselors handle on a daily basis with regards to both camper and parent behavior. They share with me the themes they see on a regular basis and highlight tips for parents in addressing the challenges their child may have at camp. This ranges from campers not participating because their parent said it was okay to parents being made aware of a behavior issue with their child and another camper and the parent experiencing the "not my child" reaction. We discuss ways to improve communication and set expectations. We also learn about the challenges that come with children who come from a divorced home and some possible behavior and manipulation that may occur when children are feeling disorganized and having little control of their home situation. This was an insightful conversation as these tips come from young adults who work with children.
