Lindsay Clancy Trial: Did Lindsay Know It Was Wrong, or Was She Unable to Stop?

The Lindsay Clancy murder trial is approaching its final stage as the Commonwealth presents rebuttal testimony challenging the defense’s claim that Clancy was experiencing postpartum psychosis when she killed her three children.
The Commonwealth’s experts argue that Clancy was seriously depressed but not psychotic, and that she still understood the wrongfulness of her actions and retained control over her behavior. Under cross-examination today, one prosecution psychiatrist acknowledged that Clancy displayed symptoms associated with postpartum depression while continuing to reject a postpartum diagnosis and any evidence of psychosis.
With closing arguments and jury deliberations approaching, the case comes down to one defining question: Did Lindsay Clancy understand that what she was doing was wrong, or did severe mental illness leave her unable to control her actions?
