Are Stereotypes Actually Racist or Just Funny?
Today’s episode might be our most unfiltered one yet. We’re talking about stereotypes. The funny ones, the uncomfortable ones, and the ones everyone pretends not to laugh at. From the classic jokes about Asian women being bad drivers, to black people loving fried chicken and purple drink, to Italian families and their mafia meatball energy, to Irish people and the never-ending drinking reputation, nothing is off limits.
Jessica talks about living near a Hasidic Jewish community and how that sparked her little game called “Is it a Hasidic van?” which somehow turned into a bigger conversation about where the line is between funny and offensive. We both grew up hearing these stereotypes everywhere, but we started wondering if people are actually offended or if it’s just social media making it feel that way.
This episode isn’t about being mean, it’s about being honest, laughing at the things we’ve all heard growing up, and asking the questions no one ever wants to say out loud.
