#06: Living to 100 and Older: The Blue Zone Regions

Damion Figueroa

The health and wellness discussion has risen drastically since 2020.

In the world today, we tend to turn to social media for all of our answers. And a lot of times we look at people being "healthy" because of their physical appearance.

Health goes so much deeper than just our own physical appearance.

If you look at health and wellness as a whole, there is your physical, mental, emotional, environmental, relational, and existential health.

Health goes far deeper than how we physically appear.  With the world of social media where photos and videos can be edited and distorted, individuals can be dishonest about how and what they're doing to get the results they want to see, and a lot of times people are just out to sell the next quick fix.

And when you think about a country like the United States where there's a lot of access to healthcare, some of the most advancements in medicine and medical technology, and more freedoms than most countries, why is the US trending to continue to be unhealthier than ever in history?

When we talk about health and wellness, what are we truly after? I believe it's to live a longer and healthier life as well as a life as long as possible without a chronic disease.

In this episode, we are going to be talking about the Blue Zone Regions of the world. These are the areas in the world that are found to have the most amount of people living to be 100 years old or older (also known as Centenarians).

Researches conducted studies in these blue zones (Japan, Greece, US, and Costa Rice) and tried to find commonalities around these blue zones to see how these individuals were living longer and healthier.

Researchers came to the conclusion of 9 commonalities amongst the blue zone regions that I am going to be sharing with you today.

These 9 simple actionable things may help lead you to a longer and healthier life.
