God wants the best for us. Because He loves us, He wants to form us into people marked by faith, hope, and love. Sometimes, He will test our dependence on Him for that purpose: not because we have to earn or prove anything, but just because tests reveal who we actually trust. Even when we fail a test, like Israel did in the wilderness, it is an opportunity to grow deeper in our trust and dependance on God.

Discussion Questions:
1. Do you feel like you're in a wilderness right now? If not, when was the last time you did?

2. In your own words, what's the difference between testing and temptation?

3. Take a moment to think. When was the last time you were in a difficult circumstance and had to choose whether or not to trust God? In the stress of that circumstance, what (or who) did you choose to trust?

4. Read Hebrews 12:7-11. The context is that the Christians hearing this message are facing a variety of very real hardship because they chose to be Christians. Does this passage encourage you or discourage you? Why?

5. Take a moment and pray together. Ask for a tangible experience of God's presence. If you feel like you're in the wilderness, ask God to show you what He is providing for you. Finally, pray the Lord's Prayer together (either Matthew 6 or Luke 11).
