Cold Open And Introductions

SPEAKER_00

I'll do it till the sun goes down. Not with an idiot. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. I'll tell you what you wanna hear. My sunglasses on while I shed the teeth.

SPEAKER_07

Hello, everybody out there. Yes, I'm back. It's Dana Dean. And it's Johnny Dawn. And we're the double D's turning a negative into a positive. How's everyone doing? I'm happy to be back. I'm sorry I missed the last time you guys recorded.

Greek Easter Traditions And Lamb

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we're glad you're back, Dana Dane. Yes, yes. And Gigi's here with us too. Hello, everyone. So today we're gonna speak about just some fun stuff.

SPEAKER_03

What's been going on, girls? Not too much. Um, happy Easter to everybody.

SPEAKER_07

Greek Easter's this Sunday. Yes, I'm very excited. I can't wait. My neighbor roasts that lamb in the courtyard. Yeah. I can't wait. I get the bread with the eggs in it. Uh-huh. Yeah. Oh my god. No, I can't eat it, but it's so good.

SPEAKER_05

Gigi does that. She's Greek.

SPEAKER_03

I'm Greek, so yeah. Tell us about your traditions. Traditions. For Greek Easter, yeah. Well, we cook the lamb and the spit and um like a full lamb with the head and everything. The ass, the head. The ass, the legs, the toenails, the tongue, the ball, the whole thing.

SPEAKER_07

I have pictures of it. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So what's the best part to eat? What do they say? The whole frickin'. Like is it the brain? Is it that is it the leg?

SPEAKER_03

A lot of people eat the brain, and I I don't. I don't even want to look at the head, to be honest with you. Um, I get totally grossed out by it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, I can see that. Yeah. Watch it, you know, you look at it, the eyes are like bulging. You ever try an eyeball? No.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_03

It's on fish. It's only fish things. Yeah. A lot of people eat the fish eye. It's a fish thing. But they do with the lambs too. And I'm just no, we can't do it.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_03

That poor lamb. Can't do it, can't do it. But I'm excited to eat.

SPEAKER_05

Gigi's Greek. Both my aunts marry Greek. So yeah, we've been doing the full doing something Sunday and going to Pam's or something. Yes, and going to my Aunt Pam's. And she also roasts the full bath. Okay, I'm not a big lamb eater. Oh, but out of tradition, me too. Um, out of tradition, I'll have a little bit of it. And actually, it tastes pretty good. I only have it once a year, and that's for Greek Easter.

SPEAKER_07

I eat it all, I can eat it all the time. I actually eat lamb shoulders. I love it. It's so good. And that was the only thing I tolerate on chemo was lamb shoulders. Shoulders. Yeah. You grill them up. Oh, it's so good.

SPEAKER_03

Isn't lamb like one of the healthier red meats? Yes. Yes. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Oh my God. I made my first lamb roast this year. I don't do a lamb roast for Easter. I usually do like lamb shoulders and grill them and serve them to everybody. But my father-in-law was insisting upon giving me a lamb roast, and I roasted my first lamb roast in the oven. Cool. Yeah. So how do you make the shoulders? I grill them on the grill pan because I don't have a grill where we are. Um so I have a grill pan I put on top of the burners. And um I, you know, sorte them in olive oil and a little uh wine vinegar and some lemon and a whole bunch of seasoning and you know, seven minutes on each side, real quick, and then you like turn it every so often because I like the medium rare. I like my eat it rare too. Yeah, I like a medium rare. I like medium rare on my remote. I don't like anything overdone, any type of steak or meat for that factor, but especially lamb, I like my medium rare. I agree. Yeah, and it's it's juicy. It's but what I do is because my pan is so old, and I learned this all for the cooking network, is I put a little butter on the bottom of my pan before I put like the olive oil and stuff in there, because then that enhances all like the juices when the meat is like you know, cooking and then all the juices are flowing off. It's rebasing and all that stuff. And I do throw a little bit of water in my pan as they're cooking, right? To enhance all those seasonings as well. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But doesn't the butter also like crisp it?

SPEAKER_07

A little bit, yeah, a little bit, but not too much. Right. Yeah, but you want the outside a little crisp. A little crispy. You want that inside to be like that pinky looking, like yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Yum yum. How do you make your lamb, Gigi? Usually if you have it at home.

SPEAKER_03

How do I make my lamb?

SPEAKER_05

Is it lamb chops or is it like I get somebody else to cook it for me?

SPEAKER_03

Like Eric. You know, uh what what was it? A couple of years ago, we um we barbecued it and it came out really good. Like we put it on Lowe's the Lego lamb, and it was so good. We put it on the barbecue, it was delicious.

SPEAKER_05

It sounds good. As I said, I'm not a big lamb eater, but it does sound delicious, and um, it's your tradition. So, Gigi, tell us about the tradition in the Greek religion about eating lamb. Really? Yes, I want to know. Like, what is it about the lamb that like all the Greeks I I don't know, I never even asked my aunt this question. No clue. No clue.

SPEAKER_03

I I I I don't know, I feel uh it's something that they no clue that they ate.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know, I just eat it. It's something they ate back in the days when Jesus was alive, and lamb was a very big thing to eat, I guess in Egypt and Jerusalem. And uh again, I'm not a big lamb eater. That and uh fish is not a big thing for me. But you know more about this religion than I do, just in religious religion in general. So don't ask me about other religions except Catholic religion.

SPEAKER_03

I should be ashamed of myself right now.

SPEAKER_05

Well, the best thing about Easter is getting together with family, yes, and you know, enjoying the time and the moments of eating together and enjoying each other's company and catching up, and you know, all the little kids getting their Easter baskets and that candy and and them having a ball as well. Well, I miss those days. Oh, absolutely.

SPEAKER_03

So you're too big now. Easter and a lot of um holidays like Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving. What's important about all that is the meaning of them all. Yeah. You know, Jesus and Thanksgiving is the pilgrims, and it's the meaning because I think nowadays, yeah, Halloween with the witch. Um, honestly, I don't think these kids really know what these holidays really mean.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. You know what? These days, if you could get your family together, it's really important. It really is. Because I feel like the family unit in general, oh as the years pass on, has separated more and more. I don't know. What do you guys think?

SPEAKER_03

I think that it has. I I think it seriously really changed more when COVID hit, because when COVID hit, a lot of people started doing like the immediate families. So we didn't get together with all the aunts, the uncles, and the cousins, because I know that's what we did. That's true. We had like 50 people in a house that held 20, you know. But and then once COVID hit, everybody just did the immediate family, and then I think it just kept after that, and then of course, families just got bigger with um children, grandchildren, and not everybody can fit in one house anymore.

Inviting Someone In When They Hurt

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, but uh COVID did do a toll on separating families. I do agree with you on that for sure. Um it was a trial and tribulations we went through during those times. But Dana, I see that you had a nice Easter. I saw on Facebook you did a nice Easter dinner.

SPEAKER_07

Yep. Um Daniel's back home, so that was great. Um, my in-laws are back to coming over. And then I had a girlfriend of mine, a colleague of mine from work, my friend, we both had diagnosed at the same time with cancer, but she has bone marrow cancer, so she's um going for treatment still and has still like a little rough road ahead of her. She had that whole um uh stem still um replacement done where they, you know, took it out and then they put it back in and fusion. Yeah, she did that over the summer. The same summer had my surgery. So her son had just left for the Air Force the Monday before we left for break. God bless him. Yeah, and um, her daughter lives in California and her fiance was in Florida. And I said, you know what? You're not spending Easter by yourself. Come to my house. Oh, that's nice. Come to my house and have Easter with me and you know, my family and stuff. And and she did, she came, she was out in Abneyville, and um she came in, and I just supposed to actually sponsor her today um on my way to to meet you. And um, she was like, I had such a great time. She's like, Thank you so much, you know, and you know, it it's it's rough, you know. I mean, her son's away now, he's in um Texas, you know, going through training. And um, he graduates later in May, right before like Memorial Day, I think, stuff like that. And, you know, it's been him and her here for you know majority of the time that she's been out in Long Island, she lived in Queens for a while. And, you know, I know what it's like when a child goes away. You know, when Danielle went to school in those first couple of like weeks that she was away, like it's hard, you know. You look in their room, you're waiting to hear their footsteps, you're waiting to hear from them. So, you know, so like I checked on her this week to make sure she was okay, you know, just see how she was doing. And she was she's she's doing, she's surviving. But um, I didn't want her to be by herself.

SPEAKER_05

I did Yeah, that was very nice of you. Yeah, yeah. I mean, especially a son going to get trained now, why we have so much conflict in the world, you know, between Iraq and Israel and and all the wars that are going on right now. It's a really scary time to have your child go into the service. Um, because we don't know what's gonna happen in the future with things, and you know, all I pray for is peace in the world.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. You know, he he didn't want to go to college. You know, he had his feelings about college, and she's like, you know, well, you have to do a trade school or you have to, you know, enlist somewhere. And he said, Well, I'll enlist in the Air Force and he's gonna study engineering while he's there.

Gratitude For Service And Veterans

Boogie For Boobies Event Preview

SPEAKER_05

So yeah, very cool, very cool. Yeah, so yeah. I uh anyone out there that's serving our country right now, God bless you all, and thank you for your service. Yes, most definitely. And um, it's a very difficult time right now. So absolutely thank you to all our people serving, our veterans, and everyone that serviced us in the past. My grandfather was part of he was in the Navy during World War II. He was on the Wichita, um, he was in the Navy, and he actually um what their boat did, their ship did, was they took supplies back and forth between the United States and Europe during the war, and he was the engineer on the boat, on the ship. I keep saying boat, but it is a ship. It is, yeah, it is and yeah, and so he served for uh five years or six years, I don't remember. But um again, thank you everybody. I am part of the auxiliary and I do give back to our veterans and um God bless you all out there for doing what you do. We really are thankful for all of you, and um we recognize that. And uh even though we are all part of Rockin' the Road for a Cure Breast Cancer Organization, we do see um what other organizations do as well, and other people that are in need and you know who make a difference in this world. And we thank you for making a difference in this world. And speaking of that, we have a an event coming up on May 3rd, Boogie for Boobies, New York, women that rock at Whiskey Rocks, TC R Whiskey Rocks in West Babylon. And it's from one to eight o'clock. I hope that you make it there. And it's all about women getting together, artist women, artists getting together, and women, business owners getting together, all for the same cause of helping people with breast cancer and you know, for equality for all. So we hope that you can make it there. Or, you know, if you can't make it there and you want to support us, go to rockintheropeforacure.org and hit that donation button. We really appreciate your donations. We're out there, you know, we're out there knocking on doors, we're providing food, we're delivering food every week. We're, you know, we're helping people with all different parts of needs that they uh during their breast cancer treatments, whether it's prosthetics, wigs, massage that they need, housekeeping, um, case management. Uh, we've gotten recliners for people so that when they come out of their mastectomies, double mastectomies, they are in a very comfortable position to get up and down, you know, um, from where they're sitting. And um we do so many different things for our patients. We're not a cookie-cutter organization. We really see what the patient needs, and then we work with them and their families to see how we could support them the best way possible to make sure we maintain their quality of life, we alleviate their stress, and um we that they know we're here to support them and that they have a support, an external support system that maybe many people don't have extended families like we have, and and we're very grateful for that.

SPEAKER_07

That you know, while we give them a purpose, we were all going through the whole point of us starting our podcast, you and I, was to be out there and let people know that they're not alone. And because we've experienced having such a big support system that now here we are um out there to help other people who may, you know, not have that. You know, that was our whole thing of you know, starting to find sponsors and to do, you know, the whole, you know, get an RV and take people on retreats and you know, have a whole weekend of just, you know, being who you are and feeling who you are and expressing who you are and just having your moment because we know we've both had our moments, you know?

SPEAKER_05

Yep, and we've been supposed to she's had a different type of cancer. Yes what type of cancer did you have?

SPEAKER_03

I had vulva cancer, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So yeah, we we talked about having an RV and then all of us getting together and going on these retreats, right? Yep, mm-hmm and um having a time of feeling, you know, in a area that is comfortable, that is supportive, and that you feel that you could be free and you could do things that you know help you to alleviate your stress, whether it's something we're providing, or whether you just want to hang out by the river, or you know, you like to participate in our jewelry making or our yoga or Dana's art class. Um, these are things that we're striving for for the future. And we're looking for sponsors out there. Yeah, yeah. So anyone that wants to sponsor our podcast, hit us up at rockin' the road for a cure at gmail.com. You know, give us a ring, 516-417-1911. Uh, we really appreciate it. And uh help us uh get to our goals.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. Contact us.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. So um if anybody out there wants to be on our podcast, we would love to hear from you. Um, any survivors out there, it doesn't have to be breast cancer, it could be any cancer.

SPEAKER_07

It could be anything, or it could be a caretaker that you know took care of someone who, you know, who had some type of cancer or illness or whatever it is, and you know, you want to come out here and share your story, you know. Even somebody that supported somebody that had cancer.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, yes. It's very important the caretaker, the person who's by you while you're going through cancer can make a big difference in your rehabilitation, in your healing, how fast you heal, you know, it's all about the support system. We understand not everybody out there has a support system. Um, not everyone has an extended family and people that could be there for them. So that's why we're here for you and um to be your support. And it looks like Johnny, is just something you want to say?

SPEAKER_06

Johnny Rizzo.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, you can leave a message on your podcast, right on the podcast.

SPEAKER_07

Right. You can leave it.

SPEAKER_08

There's a text button you can hit and leave the message.

SPEAKER_07

Is that on all with the ladies, yes? Is that on all the platforms? I know it's on Spotify. You can do that on Spotify.

SPEAKER_05

It's on all of them. This is our producer, Johnny Rizzo. Hello. What other platforms can they reach us on?

SPEAKER_08

iHot, Spotify, Apple, Google, uh, Alexa, and many, many more.

Why We Started The Podcast

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. So I know, I know. It it's it's because it's it's been a challenge for you and I to actually keep doing this consistently. Try to do this on a weekly basis. Um, um, lives do get involved and you know, things happen. But um going forward, we're gonna try and be a little bit more consistent with what's happening and what's going on. This has been, you know, when I I don't get to see Dawn much. So when I saw Dawn right after I was going through all my treatment, because she was there helping me with everything, and we were hanging out and we were hanging out at Luigi's one night. And we were talking, and uh, you know, we just didn't and in me just in alone and explaining family situation, which she knows my family so well, um, you know, it's it's a funny thing. And I had said to her, you know, a girlfriend of mine said, you know, I should have a podcast. And you said, Oh, you know, we we should do that. And I said, Really? We should do that. And you said, Yeah, we should do that. And I'm like, hmm, all right, let's do it, you know, because I know you for so long and I trust you. And I was out of my comfort zone first doing this. And I was like, I don't know if I could do this. I mean, like, I can talk and I can be funny when I want to be, you know, just around people that I enjoy being around, but then like putting it out there to the world, I was like, I don't know. And then we did our first one, and you know, Johnny did his his magic and he put all his like special effects and stuff in there and stuff, and it it was amazing. But then we started doing it after a little bit more and more, and I got comfortable and I also found it to be an out for myself and whatever was going on and my daily routine at the moment. This was my out. This is my time to come on here and just be someone, not be someone different, but leave whatever was bothering me behind, like I do when I go to my job. Because to me, this was like doing another, another job in a way, but a fun job, something I enjoy doing.

SPEAKER_03

You know, something you want to do.

SPEAKER_07

Something I want to do, something I'm doing with a really good best friend of mine, like I don't really get to see. And this is a time that we get together and we get to calm the state and we get to, you know, hang out a little bit afterwards, and you know, we and we discuss like things that we've been through. We have common things that we've been through, common interests, and then we can give it back out there to the world, you know. Having my sister on here who had ovarian cancer, that was a big thing too. You know, she doesn't talk about it, but for her to be on here and talk about it, and you know, you know her. She jokes about everything, you know, in every which way, but she was real when she was on here, you know. Um, you know, that that was a big thing too. So the whole point in us doing this, um, and just doing being real, being down to earth. Yeah, I've been on here and I've been, trust me, tired. Don't want to be here, but I've changed that attitude and come on here and do what I had to do, you know. All right, one time I had a little venting session, but you know what? This is what this is about. We're real, we're human. We're not always gonna be happy, go lucky, or you know, have like that whole really fun week or whatever. And that's what I want people to see and hear. And also, I listen to a lot of podcasts. I really, when I'm doing this, I had to listen to it because I I'm a very astructural type of person. If I'm gonna do something, then I need to research what I'm doing and I need to like be invested then in what I'm doing. And when I listened to a lot of different podcasts and I heard a lot of different things out there, I was like, oh, okay, I need to do this or I need to do that or I need to change this or I need to do that. And it helped, you know. I listened to Messi. Messi is messy's it's a podcast, let me tell you. What's messy?

SPEAKER_05

I I'll be honest with everybody out there. I do not listen to podcasts that much. Neither do I. I just don't have the time. That's that's the bottom line of everything. Between if I listen to something, it's gonna be the music I have to learn for the next gig.

Being Human With MS And Cancer

SPEAKER_07

You see, and that's so I see, and that's that's where like, you know, instead of me putting on an audiobook, like then I would listen like to a podcast. You know, like I never listen to podcasts. Damien always tell me all the time, my husband, you gotta listen to this podcast. Yeah, yeah, okay, whatever. And it wasn't until we started podcasting that I was like, oh wait, I need to listen to podcasts. Like I need to like really know like what I'm doing and what's happening out there and how like, you know, you treat your guests or like, you know, you you interact with your guests and stuff like that. Like, you know, that that type of thing. Messi is um, it's a podcast between um Christina Applegate, who has MS. Yes, and the actor from Sopranos, the daughter that played Sopranos. What's her name? I forget her name, but she has MS as well. Isn't it like Jamie something? Something like that. Yeah. She has MS as well. Right. But she's not as advanced as Christina Applegate is.

SPEAKER_05

And I Well, I have the MS, by the way, everybody out there in the world go on.

SPEAKER_07

Right. We've and we spoke about that, you know, in the very beginning too. And, you know, and I started listening to them, you know, because I knew that's like something that was going to come up in our podcast as well. And I remember Christina Applegate being on the podcast one day and just having a meltdown. And you know what? That made me more intrigued to listen because she was being human and herself and she was putting herself out there, you know, and letting everyone see how vulnerable in that moment she was. And it was okay. Yeah, you know, and it's okay for us to do it here too. Yes, turning a negative into a positive. That's our that's what we say. That's our motto, right? Yes. And that came from my nephew. And I would always tell him he would get in trouble a lot. And I'd be listening turn that negative into a positive, learn your lesson. And I'll never forget, he came food shopping with me, and he was like, and I was frustrated that day, I was tired, I was in pain, I didn't feel well, I was nauseous. And he's like, Aunt Dina, you need to turn that negative into a positive. You remember telling me that? And I was like, oh, turn my words back at me, like, you know, that's like that's something right there when a teenager is throwing their words back at you. And when we spoke about this, and I was like, Yeah, I'm like, you know what? Turning a negative into a positive, that's what part of we should call our podcast. That's what it should be about. You know, and it should we should be upfront and forthgoing and not hide anything out there, the way that we're feeling or anything. We should be real, exactly. Totally, and that's what we've been this whole entire time, totally real.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, I agree. And uh like Dana said, not all days are positive. And even though we do try to switch our brains, yes, um, even for me, I wake up in the morning and I got friggin' pains everywhere. No shit, Sherlock. But you know what? I gotta do what I gotta do. So I figure it out and I just forge ahead, you know, you gotta forge ahead. And um with you know, with MS, it's um you know, when somebody's moving or walking, you actually your energy is you have to use more energy to walk than someone that doesn't have MS, let me put it that way. You feel like you're have an extra three pounds on each leg when you walk. And you know, so it's not always easy, even though people look at me and they'll be like, Oh, she looks great, she looks fine, she doesn't look like she has anything. Yeah, because you know why? Because I don't say nothing, and I just keep going and I go and I go as much as I can go. Yep. Um, and I don't complain, and um, but there are a lot of challenges with having MS, and I'm not gonna get into that in this podcast, but um it is a challenge, and you know, I do try to change my negatives into positive, and I continue to play drums and um do what I gotta do, um, even though it's a challenge, it's uh it's very challenging. And Christina Applegate and uh I forgot her name from the Sopranos. It's Melissa something. Melissa, yeah. I hear you girls. Um, you know, it is it it is a lot.

SPEAKER_07

You know, Christina Applegate just came out with a book.

SPEAKER_05

No, I didn't know. Yeah. That's good that's fantastic because I'm sure she's sharing a lot of things that people need to know. Um and you know, these are people that are famous. I mean, I'm not famous, but I'm glad that the people that are famous are putting it out there and they're sharing their stories and they're sharing their trials and tribulations and they're sharing, you know, what they do to get through through the day.

SPEAKER_03

In the end, we're all people. Yeah. You know, just because somebody's a celebrity or not a celebrity, we still have feelings, we still hurt, we still laugh. We we're still people. Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

And that was that was Christina Applegate's message in that day where she was just like literally crying the whole entire time on the podcast. Like we are human beings. Like just because, and she said, just because like I'm the star doesn't mean like I don't have feelings. Right. And I'm not human. Exactly. You know?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Yeah. No, it's good that she is able to put it out there and show her emotions and not have to hide. And, you know, it's hard when you're somebody famous. Like I can't even imagine that, you know, for people like that, that you know your your life is out on the TV, your life is out in the world. Although it's more, it's more presentable now with social media. It seems like a lot of people's lives are out there. Our lives are out there right now. Our lives are out there, but not like not all our lives. I mean, certain parts of our lives is out there, but not every part of our life. And uh we don't have paparazzi waiting by the door waiting to take photos and all that. Thank God. You know, like I would not want that. Uh, you know, there's some days you walk out of your house and you just like you still look like you just rolled out of bed. No, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So how do I know that?

SPEAKER_05

We don't want no photo ops during that time.

SPEAKER_03

That's me like almost every day.

SPEAKER_05

But um, yeah, no, it's it's good that they're putting it out there, like I said, and um, you know, just want to share our message of, you know, we understand that everybody out there has their own trials and tribulations. And that uh, you know, we want to just try to share um other people's stories of, you know, their trials and tribulations, but also, you know, how do they get through certain things and what did they do to get through that, you know, um some uplifting things that they did that, you know, hey, you know, you're going through these challenges, not you can't just forget all the time. Although I do try, and I'm gonna tell you one thing that helps is my vino right here.

SPEAKER_03

I knew you were gonna say that because you looked right at it.

SPEAKER_05

So um she's gonna talk about her. Yes, and you know what? It thins the blood, the Cabernet. You know, it's it's so it helps with other parts of your health.

SPEAKER_03

Um, and for the heart. One glass a day of red wine is really good for the heart.

SPEAKER_05

That's true, that's true. And it's good for your spirits. And um, obviously, I'm not a nutritional freak. I I'm you know what? I sometimes I try to stick by, hey, no fried foods, you know, no red meats, no uh white whites, meaning rice or pasta. And then there's other days that I'm like, you know what, I don't really care today, and I'm gonna eat whatever I want. And I pay the piper the next day with inflammation, obviously, and all that. I think everybody does, but um, you know what? You gotta live. Yeah, you gotta live. We all got to live, and you gotta do what you gotta do to live, whatever that is, you know, that you enjoy doing, it's okay. It's okay to let loose sometimes, it's okay to eat what you want to eat occasionally, and you know, have that sip of wine and um fill your bellies.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, look at the boys, look at the boys, they're playing with their bellies, they both look like they're six months pregnant.

So um if you would like to sponsor our events, hit us up at rockin'troadforacure at gmail.com, call us at 516-4171911, or write to us um on our podcast. Um, we would love to hear from you again. If anybody out there would like to be on our podcast, would like to contribute to our podcast, would like to tell your story, would like to tell us how you turned a negative into a positive. We would so appreciate it. Um to just hear your story and share it with the world. Share what you've done to get through what you have to do. Um, so um one other thing we were talking about earlier was um like what are we doing right now? I know I just said I'm drinking a little wine which thins the blood, but I just want to share with everybody what I'm doing, what I'm doing herbal-wise. So um I'm drinking every day, and this is to help keep me from having cancer come back, and also from my inflammation, and to get rid of my parasites. So every day I'm drinking a um tea that's made from sour soap leaves, um, bay leaves, cloves, um, and um I forgot the name of the flower. Hibiscus. Oh, hibiscus is good. Yep, hibiscus. Um and also I'm drinking that once a day. I did try a binder yesterday. Now, anyone that's doing this type of cleanse for parasites, yeah, please write back to me because I tried the binder yesterday because I was getting like some bad headaches and body aches after a few days of drinking my tea. Um, so I did the binder, but then I found I felt like the blueberry girl on um on Willie Wonker in the chocolate factory, you know, where she blows up and like she's floating in the air. And uh my stomach felt like that after I took the binder. And today I decided I'm not drinking that tea and I'm not taking the binder. So, hey, anyone that's done cleanses out there, please share with me um to tell me what your routine is. I really would like to know what you know other people are doing to cleanse your body, to cleanse your, you know, to um help you with parasites, to help you with cleansing liver and all that type of thing. I really appreciate it. Uh email me at rockin'the rowforcure at gmail.com. And Dana, you said you were trying something too.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I try a bunch of different things. Well, I drink dandelion tea at least three times a week. Um, there's a cleansing tea that I have at home. It has like a bunch of different herbs, and then it's supposed to just cleanse your whole system, everything out of it. But um What's the dandelion tea good for? Dandelion tea is good for water um gain to help release the water tension in your body. So if you have like lymphedema going on and they're not, and you know, doctors aren't helping you with the lymphedema these days, dandelion tea is um it activates and releases all that water tension in your body. So yeah, it's it's bitter. So I put honey in it, you know. But we add a little honey, add a little honey to everything, and everything tastes good.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, I love I love honey. You know, I have dandelion tea at home, and when I tried it, I was like, oh, it just isn't good. So it's not, but now that you're telling me the benefits with the honey, that's great.

SPEAKER_07

With the honey, you know, I I put a bit of, you know, like maybe uh two tablespoons, a little more than that, you know, in it. Because I said it is bitter, but it is good. Like, especially for us women, we we retain a lot of water either during our menstrual cycle or if we don't get it anymore, and like, you know, if we've had like lymph nodes removed and we have lymphedema going on, um, it's good to release that water tension in your body. Um, it's very effective. I also drink mushroom coffee daily. I've been drinking that for a very long time. I heard that was great for you. That is really good. It's good for inflammation, it's good for focus, it's it's good for it's good for a lot of things. New thing I've been doing, um, now that my daughter is back home and she's of the age of drinking, she's always in the evening, mom. Let's let's let's have an old fashioned and I'm like, okay, but one old fashioned turns into two old fashions, and mommy don't drink like that anymore because it inflames her body. So um I've gone into doing a lot of research on different things to do for that. And you know, because then you've you I do a lot of reading and a lot of research. I've been doing it for a very long time, especially since you know, my daughter has epilepsy since she's very young, and I wanted to learn a lot about how the brain develops and stuff. So even more now that I have my own thing going on, I do a lot of research and I do this thing now called nectar calming. And it's um a bunch, it's magnesium, it's vitamin D, um, it's licolites, it's also um another uh aspect in there to help you um drain the fluid in your body. It's also good for lymphedemia as well. And you just mix a packet of that in your water, five, six o'clock, seven o'clock at night. Like any time that you would like to have that like glass of wine to unwind, this would be the perfect time to do that. And it it helps. It helps you sleep. It helps you have very bad sleep habits lately. Um, very long time. Um, and I noticed by doing this and by taking this, um, I sleep better. Um, I feel better when I wake up in the morning. You know, um, I have gut gut issues for a very long time. I have my globe latter removed very young, so I have a lot of problems with that. It helps with like regulating yourself as well, you know, along with this new probiotic powder that I found to put it in water that helps too. You know, just little things that, you know, and you know, what you need to do is like search these all these different little things and try it. If it works for you, it's great, you know. Um, it works for me. I've been doing very, you know, I was taking magnesium chewables and they weren't doing it. Like it just it was it took a long time to like kick in and help me sleep. And I was like, this is not working, you know, just the same way, like, you know, if if I just if I smoke and it no no effect on me whatsoever. It either needs to be in a liquid form or some kind of cream to absorb in my body right away. And that's it. So, you know, this seems to work. So, you know, try it. It's um I've I've gotten it on on Instagram after researching it. It's called Nectar Calm Magnesium. Magnesium is very good for women's bodies. There's all different types of magnesium that you can take. This has a combo of magnesium in it to help with all those like situations I'm going on gut, sleep, water retention, whatever it is.

SPEAKER_05

That is awesome that you try all these different things. Yeah, and you know, you could share it with everybody. So um, yeah, I'm just trying some different things myself. And I do go on chat, and I just see um, you know, like because I have MS and because I've had cancer, you know, um, I just see what's best for me. And, you know, it's not always that you should listen to chat, you know, you should look up other things as well. Um, but you know, I did learn that in SourSop, as far as people who have MS, you shouldn't do every day of the week, you know, when you're doing a cleanse, maybe two to three times a week. Yeah. Because it affects the nerve endings. And, you know, that's something that's affected with MS. So anyone that's you know looking to do some sort of cleanse and you have other medical conditions, you should always, you know, try to check, you know, either with your doctor or do your own research on, you know, what would be the best regimen for you? Because what's a good regimen for me may not be a good regimen for you or for others. And, you know, these are just things, you know, we're not telling people here what to do or, you know, with their health or anything, but just sharing what we do for ourselves. And um, you know, everybody goes through different regimens to um help their body, and whether it's for inflammation, whether it's to cleanse themselves, cleanse their liver, whether it's for parasites, but whatever it is you might have that you're trying to combat. Um, you know, there's so many different natural herbs out there. Um and mushrooms.

SPEAKER_07

You will be surprised what mushrooms can do. Oh, I know what mushrooms can do. Well, not that type of mushroom.

SPEAKER_04

We know what those type of mushrooms can do. Oh, wait a minute. I learned that when I was younger before we combat anything.

SPEAKER_07

We I mean, yeah, but no, there's other types of mushrooms out there that um and we've had we've had cap we had Captain Mushroom on here. We we know Captain Mushroom, yes. He has these chocolates that have mushrooms and he has some kind of treat now. Did you see his website? No, it's like some kind of like that's what they call them magic. Puff the magic dragon, that's where that song came from. Um yeah, he has some kind of treat out now. I don't know if it's a rice crispy treat or something, but I briefly like looked on his website recently.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, that's cool. That's cool. Yeah. No, I mean, hey, these things help, and you know, there's all sorts of this there's some sort of rituals they do. Um tribal rituals, I should say, with hallucinogenics. And whether they're mushroom, magic mushroom hallucinogenics or whichever way it is, ketamine, I don't know. But they have people that you know have post-traumatic stress disorder that these things have helped them with. Um, you know, um, I'm not saying I never tried it. I don't know, you know, I just I I watch a lot of documentaries and you know, I look up a lot of things myself to see, you know, hey, what's going out there? How are people helping themselves? You know, what are people doing? So yeah, it's just there's so many different ways to, you know, treat different illnesses and treat yourself and you know, figure it out for yourself. Again, hey, check with your doctor, check with, you know, check with other people, you know, what you think could work for you best.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

On whatever you're combating out there illnesses you have or or or things that you need to work on.

SPEAKER_04

Try try rice mushroom coffee first. If you're gonna do anything, try that first. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Rise. I don't know. I go to my LaVaza.

SPEAKER_04

It gives me a rise.

SPEAKER_07

It's still a low-base coffee substance, but there's four different mushrooms in there that help your gut, help you focus, um, just overall just help you feel 10 times better.

SPEAKER_05

Ah, that's great to know. Yeah. I haven't gone the mushroom route. Um, uh again, only when I was younger.

SPEAKER_07

Well, there's that time we tried captain mushrooms.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, no, I did try captain mushroom chocolates. Those were good. Uh I did not, you know, trip out or anything like that.

SPEAKER_07

I I it'cause his is um basically more on a microdosing type of thing. Like if you're trying to come off of something severe, you would look into doing his chocolates.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, no, it just helped me to mellow out and relax and you know, relax my muscles, which I need since I have MS, and um, which is a good thing. And again, there's a lot of things out there. Hey, check, check with your providers, your doctors, whoever helps you with your medical stuff. Um and then also there's a lot of holistic doctors out there, so that would help you with some, you know, with some of these questions you might have about these natural remedies that are out there, you know. Um, it's good to get some advice from some people that are, you know, experts in these areas and stuff.

SPEAKER_03

So, Gigi, have you ever tried any natural remedies? I have not. That's why I'm listening to the both of you and taking it all in. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I'll tell you that, dandelion and tea is good stuff.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I have it at home. I have it at home, and uh I'm gonna I'm gonna try it again with the honey. Yeah. I do drink tea. The green tea. Oh, green tea's. Green tea's good.

SPEAKER_07

Green tea is good for you. It's it's it's a better caffeine to have than coffee, a hundred percent.

SPEAKER_03

I like the uh lemon ginger tea, to be honest. Lemon ginger tea is good. I like that. I put my honey in there, and but like I said, I do have the dandelion tea. Yeah, I stopped using it after the first one.

SPEAKER_07

If you ever feel bloated, like really bloated, and like you want to drop that like bloatedness real quick, like in a week, drink that tea once a night or midday or something because you are gonna pee a lot. I'm gonna say you're just gonna pee a lot because that's what it does. It releases that water. So if you don't want to get up all night, then I drink it like midday, and then you know, but I wish I would have known that when I turned into a blueberry floating up in the air. She didn't call me and ask me, see? I would have brought it over for you.

SPEAKER_05

My stomach was protruding, you know.

Lymphedema Reality And What Helps

SPEAKER_07

You know, I I know dandelions were used for soup because you know, I I I have an Italian girlfriend I used to work with, and her mom used to make um dandelion soup all the time, and she used to bring it in. Remember the dandelion soup with the white beans, the Catalini beans. Yes. And she would bring it in for me, and I was like, oh, this is always so good. And like, you know, she moved on and she went to go work somewhere else, and like I was just like dandelion. Um reading about it, and I'm like, oh, I'm like, that's that soup I used to eat. So, like, let me just try the tea, you know, like nothing else is working. I'm not getting a diuretic from the doctors or anything. You know, I get very bad lymphedema. Let me try, you know, this tea. So yeah, how is your lymphedema? What's going on? Oh, it's horrible. It's hard. I was just at the surgeon a couple of uh weeks ago because I was swollen wrist arm, ear, down the whole right side of my body, into my ankle, knee twice the size of the left knee. And um, you know, their their thing is, oh, well, you know, there's a new study out, and you know, we put some tubes in you. Wait, you just took lymph nodes out, but you want to put tubes in. Like that.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, like I'm like So they want to put permanent tubes in to drain the fluid. Oh that's experimental? Yes, experimental. So I'm like, are you gonna be part of this experiment? No.

SPEAKER_07

Talking so. No, I will deal my swollen arm and like just deal with it. But um, then they want to uh lymphedema um massage again. Okay and I did that already. And they're like, well, let's put you in for that again. And I'm like, again? I'm like, isn't that and that's why I was like, isn't there a diuretic? Is there something that we can, you know, I can take? We don't do that. And I'm like, you know what? That's when I started researching. I'm just gonna go back to drinking dandelion tea. So if you're out there and you're having bad lymphedema problems, have some diarrhea try some dandelion tea. It will, it will help. It won't release all that like pressure and stuff you're feeling, especially since it's my right hand and you know it's my dominant hand. So it's like, you know, I run a vacuum, I have to write, I have to carry packages, I have to cook, you know. Um, you know, try and use that sleeve as much as possible. If you do have like a sleeve that they give you, try to use a sleeve, and that's that's my fault too, because I don't use my sleeve as much because you know, I just think I'm a superwoman and I don't need it and I could just do whatever I want, but I've learned the hard way. It's wear your sleeve. Yeah, it's part of you, wear it, and that's yeah, yeah. Yeah, and it's funny because you know, it's like it's only like three lymph nodes, but three lymph nodes can like cause a lot of like havoc in your body.

SPEAKER_05

Sure, sure. You know, I had two removed and I had some lymphedema, some bad lymphedema myself. And you know what? It continues. It's like Yeah, it's only been two years. I'm like ten, um I'm actually like 17 years from my first one exactly on the left side, and uh let me tell you, when it rains out or snows or it's hot lately when the weather gets weird. Feel the pain.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, really? I had them all out over here, like where's over here? In your pelvic area? Yeah, I'm trying to stay with the microphone and do this at the same time. So hold on. Like right here.

SPEAKER_07

In your pelvis area, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. That big and um I have no pain. I'll be honest. It was uh I didn't even know that they took them out, like where they took them out. I knew they took them out, but because they had the uh what do they call those, the drains. Right, right, right. You know, I just didn't even want to look down there. And finally when I did, I was like, oh my god, look at this. They're like, yeah, that's where we took uh your lymph nodes out. So like I have scars like three inches long, if not longer, on each side. Wow.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I I don't know if different lymph nodes have actually different.

SPEAKER_07

Different lymph nodes in different areas, body extract your lift differently, like in like those areas of your body and stuff. Like I would assume lower would be like a little bit more or less invasive. You know, I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

Those little lymph nodes, we'll get them. They're they're havoc. They run havoc. We need replacements, they run havoc, replacement lymph nodes.

SPEAKER_07

But if you have lymph nodes removed from your pits, you know, let us know. You know, we can try and help you somehow or another, you know. Do they ever grow back? No.

Final Invites And Sign Off

SPEAKER_05

No, the only organ that grows back is the liver. Yeah. That's the only thing I know that grows back in your body. But I mean, of course, your skin. Um, anyway, your epiduros. Remember that when you were younger? Your epidural showing. Your epidermis, right? Yeah, yeah. Anyway, on that note.

SPEAKER_07

On that note, I think we're gonna wrap it up for some.

SPEAKER_05

We're gonna wrap it up and put it in a gift basket and uh say goodnight to everybody. So thank you for joining us. Yes, thank you. We appreciate you listening and uh hit us up again at rockin'thearforcure at gmail.com or underneath one of our platforms. We'd love to hear from you. We love to have you on as a guest. And um hopefully you guys will make it to Boogie for Boobies Women That Rock, yes, come back. Featuring women artists at Whiskey TC Whiskey Rocks in West Babylon, New York. So um, I'm gonna say goodnight for now and ciao for now. Good night, everyone.

SPEAKER_01

Good night.
