Hey everybody, and welcome to "Oh My Word with Katie." Now, normally I would be reciting my little tagline at this moment, but this time I want to tell y'all about a really exciting change that I'm about to make to the show. Starting January 1st, 2026, "Oh My Word with Katie" is going to focus on interviewing Christian writers.
And I'm so excited about it.

This has actually been a long time coming, even though it may not seem like it to y'all. I came up with this idea several months ago. But to back up and give a tiny bit of background, when I started this show in May 2024, I basically just did it with the goal of starting something new, period. I didn't know how that would take shape. But the name came to me pretty quickly because I say "oh my word" all the time.

And then as publisher of a magazine and a journalist, my default setting was just to interview people about their stories and how God has worked in their lives. So that's what I've been doing on this podcast for the past year and a half, and I've loved it. It's been really, really cool.

But along the way, several of those people that I've interviewed have been authors. And one day when I had released one of those particular author episodes, I went to Facebook to post that episode on some writers' groups that I'm part of. And that's when it kind of hit me how many natural connections I have with writers. Which is kind of, duh Katie, you're a magazine publisher, but it just hit me for the first time in the context of this podcast. And I thought this show would be such a great way to promote the words of Christian writers - Oh My Word with Katie - and also ultimately point to the Word of God, Jesus Christ, who shows up in those stories.

And if you know me, you know reading has been my number 1 hobby since like forever. And as soon as I got this idea, I was like, oh, I'm doing this. I talked to my advisory board, 'cause I was like, I would like it if y'all like this idea, but if they had said, "This is dumb," I would've been like, "Mmm, I'm doing it anyway." So, really excited.

And just so y'all know, the mission of the show hasn't changed. And really it's the same mission as Mississippi Christian Living, if you're familiar with my magazine. And that's to point people to Christ and make their lives better. And we do that by proclaiming the excellencies of He who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. That's from 1st Peter 2:9. We do that in the magazine, on the podcast - that's not changing.

But the way we're gonna do that is now gonna be by discussing how God shows up in words and stories, and by giving y'all some really good book recommendations, because who doesn't love that?

And one quick note, I'm only gonna be interviewing Christian writers on this show, but that doesn't mean that every single book they've written - and It certainly doesn't mean that every single book we mention on the show - is gonna be shelved with the "Christian" books in your local bookstore. So if you are not a follower of Jesus, I hope you'll still enjoy our conversations.

Now, one thing I need from y'all: If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, if it sounds like something you would find meaningful, if it sounds like something you want to make sure succeeds, please, please, please take 10 seconds, go to the "Oh My Word with Katie" page on Apple Podcasts, hit the Follow button, and then scroll down, and give us a star rating. Ideally a 5-star rating, but you know, do what you wanna do. And a written review, even if it's like 3 words, like "Love this show!" Doesn't matter. The more ratings and reviews I get, the more visible the show becomes, and that's pretty important for the long-term sustainability.

Alright, now I'm gonna give y'all a sneak peek of my lineup for 2026 so far. Are you ready? New Year's Day, January 1st, 2026, I'm gonna be sitting down with Dr. Ben Gladd. Ben is an author, a theologian, seminary professor, but more importantly, he has literally written books and taught classes about the Bible as a story. And that's gonna be pretty important for this podcast.

So my conversation with him is gonna be really foundational. It's gonna help us start exploring how the Bible is a story, how God shows up in all kinds of stories, and why stories matter to God. And that's gonna be so super cool. I'm really excited.

Now after Ben, I've got several Christian fiction writers lined up, and I have been thoroughly enjoying reading their books. In fact, I'm kind of shocked it's taken me this long to figure out how to read books for "work," but I found a way, y'all, and it's been really fun. So those authors include Heather Kaufman, Sarah Sundin, T.I. Lowe, and Toni Shiloh, among others. And they all have novels coming out in the first quarter of the new year, and those books are about everything from World War II to women of the Bible to addiction recovery, and even a contemporary hockey-themed romance, which I plan on starting tonight and I'm very excited about. So I can't wait to talk to these writers and share their words with you.

That's all I have for now, so I hope you'll stay tuned for my Season 5 premiere with Ben Gladd on January 1st, 2026, and I hope you'll join us as we find God in words and stories.

Until then, I'm gonna leave y'all with a scripture about the eternal Word, Jesus Christ. This is John 1:14. "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only Son, begotten of the Father." Talk to y'all soon!
