Arabs in Media

Arabs in Media - the Debut Episode!

Hazem Jamal

In our debut episode of Arabs in Media, Hazem Jamal walks you through life as an Arab American and all the ways news and entertainment cover Arabs.  If you are also Arab American and identify with both stories of struggle and triumph, living at the intersections of culture, identity and expression, you might know the connection between media portrayals and dehumanization in the West.

If it's foreign to you; open a window to a new world.

Hazem Jamal is a first-generation Iraqi American who saw how the last months of the war on Palestinians brought up tons of trauma from both Iraq wars, and reminders of how much the news, movies, TV and entertainment portrays Arabs. Hazem worked in media his whole career, and thinks some of that understanding behind the scenes is something to have a tough conversation about.
