Feathers in faces, wisteria on bodices, and a brooch so big it becomes a character. We’re coming to you from WOMR/WFMR with our full 2026 Oscars roundup, and we’re not playing it safe. Michael and I start with something that’s been bugging us all week: the rise of AI voices in media and how quickly “real people” can get swapped for something that sounds human enough. That thread keeps popping up as we watch Hollywood try to stay glamorous while the ground shifts under it.
Then we hit the red carpet hard. We talk feather overload, the rare white-gown prophecy that actually works, and the looks that feel instantly iconic versus the ones that feel like a craft project. We also dig into the documentary race, the films we were rooting for, and why the winner still lands as important. From there it’s a rapid-fire tour of the night’s biggest fashion debates, including our unapologetic worst-dressed picks and a longer chat about stylists, aging, and what it means to dress for your body when millions are judging every seam.
And yes, we get to Conan. The fake commercials are killer, the jokes are sharp, and the most shocking takeaway might be this: starting in 2029, the Oscars won’t be on television at all, they’ll be YouTube-exclusive. Add in winners, acting highlights, Devil Wears Prada 2 news, Project Hail Mary anticipation, and an In Memoriam that genuinely hurts, and you’ve got a night that feels like the end of one era and the start of something stranger. Subscribe for more, share this with your favorite film friend, and leave a review, then tell us: which Oscars moment did you love or hate the most?

Cold Open And Welcome
SPEAKER_00The word poetic and so pathetic that I always have fun at first instead of getting up off my chest to let him rest.
SPEAKER_01Hello Welcome to the Anne Marine Show. It's Tuesday, March 17, 2026. And we are joined today by Michael over there. Hello. Hello. Hello. We're coming to you from WOMR 92.1 FM in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
SPEAKER_04And WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans, and we're streaming worldwide. W OMR dot or G. This is real people, folks, real voices. They're all coming from right here.
SPEAKER_01As opposed to. I mean, it's true what you say. It's real, but I mean, as opposed to.
SPEAKER_04Well, you know, there's a we could get into it a little later if you want to, but there's a uh uh video gamer is actually the name of an outfit that uh recommends and you know reviews video games. Right. Two of their top guys uh are AI. Oh so you mean AI radio? And they well, uh yeah, and these these reviewers don't even play video games, they're just AI. Yeah, so it's been a company that has that people have really been you know paying attention to for years. And someone bought them and then uh decided they're gonna turn it into all AI and start hawking um Bitcoin and uh casino stuff. Great, yeah, it's great.
SPEAKER_01Well, I think that it would be possible to do AI and a Michael.
SPEAKER_04Well, I mean, yeah, you know, I think so.
SPEAKER_01I mean with all of the goofs and yeah wobbles.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01There you go.
SPEAKER_04And yeah, and you know, every time the the AI is doing something, there are they always have certain phrases that they say.
SPEAKER_01I and so true.
SPEAKER_04So and you can almost always tell that it's AI by some of the repeated phrases.
SPEAKER_01I know, but like on Chat GPT, I know what the answer's gonna be half the time. I mean, I know how it's gonna be phrased.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, right. Uh well, I'll tell you what. If you ever hear it or read in a sentence where uh someone is describing something and they say without hesitation, uh-huh. AI wrote that.
SPEAKER_01AI is without so common with this is without hesitation, AI.
Oscars Night Sets The Stage
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_01Well, last night big thing.
SPEAKER_04That was the thing.
SPEAKER_01The big thing happened last night. Of course, the Oscars, the Academy Awards in Hollywood, and it was quite a night, I've gotta say. Well, isn't that lovely? Yeah, yeah. Actually, there was very little of that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there wasn't a whole lot of that. It was a fairly subdued crowd.
SPEAKER_01Well, and for good reason, it was a weird, the the winners of the top categories were I don't know, not much was made about it in the press. I mean, from the reviews and the things that I read afterwards. Yeah. But the I personally was really shocked by by some of it. But but let me start from the beginning.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And give you a little roundup from the red carpet.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we need to do that first because that's how it all started, after all.
SPEAKER_01It sure did. Yeah. And there's there were a few trends that were undeniable. Feathers for one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there was a bunch of feathers.
SPEAKER_01There was a lot of feathers, and I thought it was really weird. That's a strange choice. Although, I don't know, what did you think of the Demi Moore situation where she had like a bouquet of feathers in her face almost?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I I didn't, I mean, I thought she looked great in it. I think the dress is great.
SPEAKER_01I want to see how much.
SPEAKER_04However, I don't like the fact that the that the bodice is all, yeah, all the feathers are basically coming up into her face. Right.
SPEAKER_01But the rest of it she looked great, and it might be a dress that gets remembered. I'm not sure. Um Yeah, yeah, I would think so. Nicole Kidman had on feathers.
SPEAKER_04Um that's she had ostrich feathers, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and they were sort of in the bodice.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it threw the whole thing down in the skirt and everything.
SPEAKER_01I'm just actually taking a much better look at it right now in the photos because it's a Chanel dress, and that's a very unusual uh silhouette for them because they don't do corseting. Yeah, almost never.
SPEAKER_04Well, that is a fabulous, fab. She looks great. She looked fantastic. That is something I have rarely have ever said about Nicole Kidman.
SPEAKER_01And like I said, she lost 160 pounds.
SPEAKER_04Right, yeah, he was off doing something else, I guess.
SPEAKER_01He's gone. Divorce in the works.
SPEAKER_04Oh, is that what's is that what's happening? Oh yeah. He was just just had a you know arena gig somewhere.
SPEAKER_01No, they're getting divorced. Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah, she found out he was like Keith was messing around with some 20-something. Uh yeah, yeah, jerk.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I I have no symptoms.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, why you gotta do that, man? No, why you gotta do that?
SPEAKER_01Men.
SPEAKER_04Oh, who else who else had the uh the feathers or feather like?
SPEAKER_01I can't tell you who had was it Tiana? Tiana Taylor was also in Chanel. And I said to Michael when she came onto the red carpet, I said, Oh my gosh, she looks like she's having sex.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But she or that she is sex, right? But you know, she was just standing back. Her back was all arched and the yeah, the whole and her breasts are front and everything was out and and the side tattoo and the that dress was. Yeah, the dress.
SPEAKER_04The whole middle part of it, you can't really see in the uh photographs, is much more sheer than what it is in the photos. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, she looked like someone who was about to win an Oscar.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, she sure wow. Yeah, I absolutely agree.
SPEAKER_01Incredible.
Red Carpet Feathers And White Gowns
SPEAKER_04And then those two feathered girls were really, really lovely.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Demi Moore's feathers were Gucci, by the way.
SPEAKER_04And I like the other two better than I like Demi's, except for if it wasn't for the bodice and the feathers coming up into her face, the rest of the dress is much smaller, much more detailed work, you know, with all these little tiny feathers. Oh, and it's stunning. Yeah. But yeah, the the the feathers in her face kind of took away from some of it for me.
SPEAKER_01Now, there was a prediction that people were gonna be wearing white, and that didn't quite pan out, except Emma Stone.
SPEAKER_04Emma Stone had is it white or is it silver?
SPEAKER_01White, well, uh reflective, yeah. And Louis Vuitton and that thing was it was so lightweight, so light in color, and it was absolutely tailored. I don't know how do you make that dress?
SPEAKER_04Uh well. It doesn't look real. Yeah, I think you put stand Emma up and then you kind of wrap things around her until it's painted. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But it wasn't painted on, it was just perfect.
SPEAKER_04No, it just was, yeah, it was white. She looks absolutely fabulous.
SPEAKER_01Low back. It was Louis Vuitton, and I don't know who's designing for them because Louis Vuitton is not a designer, is not a person who's alive, nor has nor has he been for I don't know, a century. But anyway, whoever it is that made that dress is a genius. Now we have to, you know, with this caveat, if you have Emma Stone's body, uh well you can put anything on.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, if you do, just say thank you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Um, I mean, the back, you have to have a perfect back to wear that dress.
SPEAKER_04You can't it Well, I mean, it hugs everything.
SPEAKER_01So I mean you see her hip bones, you see the, you know, yeah. She's incredibly slim. Yeah. She has a more or less flat chest and just perfection. She it was perfection. That was a crazy white.
SPEAKER_04That's very liquid on her. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway. She looked great. Yeah. Um me Musaku looked great.
SPEAKER_01Now she was wearing I can't remember who made that dress. Oh, it was Christian Ciriano.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_01Made her dress.
SPEAKER_04She's uh she's uh a bit alone. She's nine months pregnant.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And I've got to say more power to her.
SPEAKER_04Yep, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because when you're nine months pregnant, you know, you have sort of two choices when it comes to putting on an evening gown. You either get into a Britney Taylor, you know, situation, a Leon tally, like a huge uh, oh, I don't know, those overcoat kind of things that they wear. Yeah. Or you do what she did, and you just say, okay, Christian, do your damnedest. Right. This is what we got to do. This is what we got. And so she had on a teal. It was like teal, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And it was just sequence, sequence, sequence, and yeah, and sparkling. And one shoulder exposed, and of course, radiance beyond volume.
SPEAKER_04She looked great. So oh my god, did I love her in that movie?
SPEAKER_01Oh, she was incredible in sinner, just incredible.
SPEAKER_03Uh I have a worse person you fell in love with. Oh.
SPEAKER_01Oh. Oh. Bestow my heart. She was is the female protagonist of Marty Supreme. Yeah. Which was shut out, by the way. Wow.
SPEAKER_04Shut out. And this was the voting ended before Timothy came out and said his silly stuff.
SPEAKER_01I don't know how Odessa didn't win. Uh-huh. But anyway, her what she was wearing was just this, I don't know how to describe it. It was kind of a kimono-ish thing. Jacket, like this overpiece with placement embroidery. Yeah. An applique, black with silver. And it was just stunning. She had this gorgeous long silver necklace on, just like one strand going down. And her hair, she has the most gorgeous hair anywhere. She certainly does. This jet black, long, curly, gorgeous hair. And she, what can I say? She she slayed. She slayed me anyway. I thought she was, and those blue eyes. Oh god.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_01So there was also the K-pop Demon Hunter trio.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Those three women all showed up in gold and black.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And they looked incredible. Absolutely. All completely different. And once again, there was this jacket, this big over coat.
SPEAKER_04Right, and one of them that had like a satin with like dragon phoenixes appliques. Yeah. Yeah. Stuff. Yeah, it was very cool. Just very fabulous. And they were all three of them having a blast.
SPEAKER_01Elle Fanning looked like a fairy princess.
SPEAKER_04She absolutely did.
SPEAKER_01It was ridiculous. She was wearing this white, now she showed up in white, a white given she gown that was wisteria. So it was all like the little petals. Like she was wearing a bodice of flowers, basically, made out of silk.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh. It was just, and then a huge, you know, a huge uh skirt. It was like a classic princess gown. And with her white skin and her white blonde hair, and yeah, she just looked like um, I don't know, beautiful, radiant, all smiles. She was wearing a Cartier, a vintage Cartier choker that was wisteria. So she had diamond wisteria around the neck. Well, yeah. Silk wisteria down the bodice. And oh my god.
SPEAKER_04All the wisteria is everywhere.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Now uh we had uh someone else in white. Uh that was Tig.
SPEAKER_01Oh Tig Nataro, yeah, who looked so adorable. She had on a white tuxedo, white bow tie, and I saw her being interviewed a couple. And Stephanie was wearing black. No, was she?
SPEAKER_04Yes. I didn't see Stephanie. Yeah, I'm looking at a picture of them both right now.
SPEAKER_01Oh, um, because I saw Brandy Carlisle.
SPEAKER_04Right, who who actually came with her partner too.
Documentary Snubs And Surprises
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh. Um well there were so many views, but if you're looking at pictures, how did Stephanie look?
SPEAKER_04She looked great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01She's a pretty lady.
SPEAKER_04She is a pretty lady.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, so um that was a bummer to me that Tig and her team of producers, including Brandy Carlyle, Kevin Nealon.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_01Um, oh God, I'm forgetting a couple of people, but those were sort of the big names that produced Come See Me in the Good Light, yeah, which is a documentary about Andrea Gibson and their partner Meg Falley. And it's just great. It's on Apple TV. Just watch it. It's it's really incredible. Anyway, they were up for Best Documentary, and I was rooting for them because I because it's them, you know, they're my people. I follow Jig and company, you know, I listen to them every day. So I was hoping they would win, but the one that said Mr. Nob, the one that was Mr. Nobody um versus Putin is what won. And that was incredible and important. And uh the people who made that film put themselves in danger. You know, it was it was an extraordinary documentary work, so I can't it's not like you can say that they were robbed, you know? Right, yeah, no, they had fierce competition. That's the thing, but I I was just hoping, I was hoping they would win. Yeah. Um I have a bone to pick with Silver Lake, with John Baker, whom you all heard last week. Yes.
SPEAKER_04What is it?
SPEAKER_01Well, it's about Kristen Wigg.
SPEAKER_04Oh, okay. Uh yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Now he told me that she has had plastic surgery that has altered her in a profound way. She said it's not her anymore.
SPEAKER_04Right, I would say like a Jennifer Gray. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01We call that pulling a Jennifer Gray.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And Michael and I both saw her last night and thought she looked fancy. She looked great. She looked beautiful, she looked like herself.
SPEAKER_04You can tell where there's where there's not fillers in her face. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01You could tell that she hasn't had any, certainly nothing extreme. She hasn't had a facelift.
SPEAKER_04Now she looked, she looked a little younger, maybe, but uh, you know, but she looked she looked fabulous. Just incredible.
Plastic Surgery Talk And Worst Dressed
SPEAKER_01She just looked incredible. Um now, unfortunately, my worst dress of the night goes to Liza O'Brien.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Right, that's not good.
SPEAKER_01But have you seen a picture of that?
SPEAKER_04I did, yes.
SPEAKER_01And describe, maybe. Uh I don't know how. Well, try, you can do it. You're a big boy.
SPEAKER_04I feel like she's uh she's uh the bodice of her her dress looks kind of I don't know how to explain it.
SPEAKER_01Like it's um it looks like made of wire, uh-huh.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Wire or chains or whatever, and and that is like there's nothing new underneath it.
SPEAKER_01Right. And that was another thing that people were wearing nude dresses.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Now, not to be ageist, but I am gonna be ageist here because Michael and I w noticed this in a couple of different places. When you get into the when you get to 60 and Liza is certainly close. Yeah. Um if not a p 60 plus.
SPEAKER_04I'm sure she is, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So you know, you don't wear a naked dress. Just don't do that. Um, she doesn't have the figure for it. It also wasn't an attractive dress.
SPEAKER_04It was, it was not an attractive dress.
SPEAKER_01I wonder who made it. Do you have any information?
SPEAKER_04Uh let me find out. Yeah, I think.
SPEAKER_01Uh and now Conan He looked great. Looked amazing.
SPEAKER_04Once he got the wig off.
SPEAKER_01Well, oh God, that was so funny. He did this whole thing about Amy Madigan and he did he did many bits. The fake commercials were incredible.
SPEAKER_04And they were really fun.
SPEAKER_01Did you see any of that? Yeah. Oh God. He uh Conan is just great. He, by the way, had something like seven costume changes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Every time he went out, he left the stage and then came back, he was in a different suit. And they were gorgeous. He had one that was navy velvet that went so well with his skin and his hair. And he had his hair, God, he loves that hair. He loves to talk about his hair. Oh yeah. Anyway, he he was terrific. One of the first He was very funny. One of the first jokes, after the opening montage, one of the first jokes he opened with was Chalamet. He hit Chalamet right away. Yep. And front and center, there's an aisle. And then on either side of the aisle, sitting in the in the aisle seats, were Jesse Buckley on one side and Timothy Chalamet on the other. Right. Timothy Chalamet was head-to-toe white in a white, I don't know, silk or satin or something suit. And Kylie Jenner, I still can't believe those two are a pair, but whatever.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I don't get that either.
SPEAKER_01She was in red sequins, um, and sort of a classic mermaid seems like a dress.
SPEAKER_04No, tell one I I can't tell uh who made no one is saying who made her dress where I'm looking. So who Kylie's? No, Liz O'Brien. Oh, Liza. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Now I I have a second worst dress. Uh-huh. I can picture the dress. It's Kate Hudson. Okay. Now you liked her.
SPEAKER_04You and I will disagree about this. I um I don't think it was the greatest dress.
SPEAKER_01Because I think Hobby Lobby was the design. I really do. It looked like it was cardboard. It looked like someone had done a really good school project.
SPEAKER_04It looks like it it's made from uh mosaic. What does it look like Giorgio Armani Armani?
SPEAKER_01Prive or just Giorgio Armani?
SPEAKER_04It just says Giorgio Armani.
SPEAKER_01What what does that? So she's got a peplum bodice. What is that peplum, that part that swings out? Right. What does it look like that's made of? You know, whatever the mosaic is, what's underneath it?
SPEAKER_04Uh I can't tell what's underneath.
SPEAKER_01It looks like cardboard. Okay. To me. Yeah, I can't do that. Or some sort of weird, stiff, synthetic something.
SPEAKER_04Well, and yeah, paper machette. It could very well be that, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just felt like I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I think I think she looks I think the dress is great. I think it's for an older woman.
SPEAKER_01Older than Kate?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, there were a few older women who didn't quite get it right. The number one being Sigourney Weaver.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, she did not get that one right.
SPEAKER_01She was wearing a gold shimata.
SPEAKER_04She's got a buttons.
SPEAKER_01Basically, well, she was wearing a gold sort of shapeless dress.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01But it had the the collar and the sleeves, the ends of the sleeves, you know, at her wrists were contrasting in like a pewter. Yeah. Next to this like sort of shimmery gold. And it looks like she was being strangled. The dress looked like a torture instrument. Yeah. Oh, I absolutely agree. Yeah. To me. Um, it looked like she was being strangled and like the circulation to her hands had been cut off. And she had that look on her face.
SPEAKER_04The strangulation?
SPEAKER_01She looked like she was being strangled.
SPEAKER_04I gotcha.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. She didn't look comfortable.
SPEAKER_04Well, you know, I have I have my own worst dressed. And tell me. That would be Kevin O'Leary.
SPEAKER_01What was he wearing? I didn't even know.
SPEAKER_04Oh my goodness, you have to look him. You have to look it up. Well, just tell me. He's wearing some kind of weird uh black kind of kimono jacket that's got silver embroidery all over it and a great big belt and uh he was doing that too. Yeah, oh yeah, and then a gold big gold chain with a giant like plate thing on the end of it that yeah, it was dangling down there. Yeah, he looked absolutely silly.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'll tell you who another age person here. Okay. Who needs to Rita Wilson.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01I love Rita Wilson. She was wearing a really simple dress, a sort of nothing, but the sleeve was this sheer kind of meshy thing that was completely see-through, stood away from her body, and she doesn't doesn't have the arms for it. So it was incredibly aging. Um, if you've got to me more arms, right?
SPEAKER_04You can you know you can wear the feather dress.
SPEAKER_01You can be of a certain age and expose them.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. There's you have to work out all the time.
SPEAKER_01Since Michelle Obama, there's been this like debate about sleevelessness. Not that, you know, exposing skin at the Oscars hasn't been since you know, kind of since could be kind of began.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
Brooches And Menswear Statements
SPEAKER_01But there be there became this thing where women show your arms, go sleeveless. Now I agree, right? If a woman wants to show her arms all power to her, yeah, if a woman wants to show her arms and walk a red carpet in a gown on which she will be judged, the shape of the arms matters. Yep, yep, and that's gonna be the same thing for men as it is for women. You know, you've got to dress for your body, and there's something for everyone, something for everyone that looks great, yeah. And I feel like the stylists and the designers aren't taking that into consideration, you know, any someone designing a dress for Rita Wilson shouldn't be doing full arm exposure. Yeah, no. And that's that's my opinion. I didn't think it did her any justice, and I adore her.
SPEAKER_04Can uh can we talk about the um what they considered would be the male fashion statement?
SPEAKER_01Oh, I was gonna yeah, I know where you're going. Are you about to get there? I'm already there. It's right on my nose. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Go ahead. Well, because I'm looking at a picture of Pedro Pascal. Did you see him? Yes, I did. He's not wearing a coat, right? He's just got uh uh tuxedo uh trousers and an and a shirt on, right? And uh what is that, a nine-inch flower or something? Yes. Yeah, that is really well you know really big.
SPEAKER_01This there's this brooch situation. Coleman Domingo at the Golden Globes had the most incredible situation where he had um a wide lapel, um almost like a shawl collar um tuxedo jacket and brooch, diamond brooches. I think they were Bulgari, but I'm not sure, all the way down one of the lapels. And it was so cool, so fashion. And then now we're having men wearing broaches.
SPEAKER_04Yes, now there's all of that. Now I this flower is so huge. I don't, I don't really and it's a flower. Right. It I don't know that you could call it a brooch, but I suppose if it's like pinned to him like that, I suppose that's what it what it could be. But well, pretty much there was there was a lot of that going on.
SPEAKER_01Every man had on a brooch. Yeah. Now, one in particular, and you came up with this, so maybe you want to discuss it. Adrian Brody was wearing a second, second biggest one. He was wearing a Christmas wreath.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. It was huge, but not as big as the flower, though. That's the thing.
SPEAKER_01No, yeah, but it was a huge I mean, bait whatchamacallit, Mescal was wearing just a flower. Yeah, that was his outfit, right?
SPEAKER_04Brody had on a jacket, right, and kind of like a tuba for a uh brooch.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, this huge thing. Yeah, and so Michael came up with a new name for him, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh uh Adrian Broochy.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. And he was, he was Adrian Broochy at the Oscars, and then I saw a picture of uh uh Law Broach as well.
SPEAKER_04Law Roach? Well, no, no brooch.
SPEAKER_01Oh, oh God, yeah. Okay, what was Law Broach's?
SPEAKER_04His is actually uh pretty pretty simple, so it's it's not really that much of a thing.
Big Wins And Acting Highlights
SPEAKER_01Well, uh I think even Ed Harris had a little twinkler on there. Yeah. Now Amy Madigan ended up winning Best Supporting Actress.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01For her insane uh Right, for her Weapons, which is a horror film. I have no interest in horror films at all. Uh and so she beat out the uh well Tiana Taylor.
SPEAKER_04Right, she beat out uh Wu Me.
SPEAKER_01She beat out um Inga from Sentimental Value.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01Uh people that I really thought Tiana Taylor deserved that Oscar. Her performance in one battle after another was incredible.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And what she did and what she put out, I I don't know where she came up with with all of that, except Paul Thomas Anderson, PTA, is a genius. Who also won't best director, best film, best person, best everything.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Jesse Buckley.
SPEAKER_04Wow.
SPEAKER_01She uh, I am in love with her.
SPEAKER_04I'm in love. I mean, she was uh uh amazing in in Hamnet, and I didn't recognize her previously with her very short hair, her boycott blonde hair.
SPEAKER_01Right, which is her real situation.
SPEAKER_04She uh and she looked fabulous.
SPEAKER_01She was wearing Chanel, right, and uh a silhouette that they were saying that it hearkened back to and to uh Grace Grace Kelly to Grace Kelly, yeah, and it was uh a red um silk satin bandeau top. Yeah that's so it goes over the I can't explain it. It it goes over your could you explain it please?
SPEAKER_04Well, I mean it's it's like a uh yeah, it's like a tube top that goes uh around your arms as well.
SPEAKER_01Good, good description. It's a tube top that's not a tube top. Right. So in other words, it's made of fabric, it's not knitted onto you. Yeah. And then this flowing, the gown underneath.
SPEAKER_04Beautiful pink. This just pink, so flowing, absolutely gorgeous, gorgeousness.
SPEAKER_01And so the the bandeau, this red bandeau is on the top, and she had on red lipstick. I can't remember if she had on a simple uh did she have a little diamond? Yeah, diamond necklace, but it was it was delicate and simple.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_01She looked gorgeous, yeah, and she won best actress. As she should have, I think. She she deserved what an incredible I I that was really sad. I've seen that film twice now. Um I saw it once and I loved it. And then I watched it again with John Baker with Silverlake. Um, because he showed up, Mr. Hollywood, having seen nothing. Right.
SPEAKER_04I know.
SPEAKER_01So he left here having seen Hamnet, which I watched for a second time with him, and Bugonia, yeah, which I watched um because he said I had to. And that is one well now. Wait, did I get to um oh Michael B. Jordan won best actor, and he should have won a couple because he played exactly twins. Yep. Um, so I don't know which twin won the Oscar, but one of them did. Yeah. Uh L. Fanning, she was L. Fanning in Sentimental Value did one of the most incredible things as an actress that I have ever seen. John Baker and other movie files, if you're still listening to the show, because that's all we got on this show. You must see sentimental value just to see what El Fanning does. I've never seen an actress do this. She is acting someone acting.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_01So there's a scene of her where she's acting in a film. And it's just amazing. I don't know how she whatever. She's she is extraordinary.
SPEAKER_04I thought, uh, I thought actually, you know, Barry did a fun job with that. Who? Barry, the t the TV show did a fun job with of of acting in the, you know. Because they were all actors, right? That was the that was part of the thing.
Conan Bits And Tech Future
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, the this is different. This is a heavy, serious scene where she has to go deep emotionally. Yeah. It's not like Barry. You know what I mean? It's not like acting class. Barry. Okay. Um, this is a completely different wow. I don't, I don't know. A little more uh serious, are you saying? Extremely. Uman did that was hilarious, one of the fake commercials he did was for a company called Ventura Crossroads. Uh-huh. Tall and thin films. And what they do is they make phones for I mean, they make films for phones. Because that's where everyone watches everything. Right. And they make them so they're portrait, not landscape. Yes, of course. I mean they're tall and thin. And it's hilarious. Go on YouTube and watch these bits, these fake commercials that that Conan did. That one was just killer. Venture acrossroads. And here's a shocking thing. And one of the reasons Conan was kind of harping on where we're headed with our technology and how we'll be viewing movies and and doing everything really. Starting in 2029, the Oscars will not be broadcast on television. They will be exclusively on YouTube. Uh-huh. Which okay. Oh, I don't know. It hurts. That hurts me a little.
SPEAKER_04Well, I watch a lot of YouTube, so you know it's I know.
SPEAKER_01I just can't imagine. I don't know. Maybe it'll work.
SPEAKER_04I did, I did like how Conan started the beginning saying, hey, uh you know, thank you. Uh I'm the last human announcer for the other. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01He said, I will be here. I had they were saying for the rest of my I don't know. Yeah, exactly. That it'll just be Conan and then it'll be AI. Yeah. Um oh, he did a skit with Sterling K. Brown. Oh, that was absolutely hilarious. Uh and once again, it was about music and where the music will be going in in the future, the way things are going now.
SPEAKER_05Yep.
Prada Sequel And Anna Wintour
SPEAKER_01Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor. Last year, so he was the one who presented it this year to Sean Penn, who won for um one battle after another. And what he said is, and I was so glad he said this, I I am accepting the award for Sean Penn, who wasn't here or didn't want to be. And I was like, Yes, sir, saying it like it is. He didn't he gave a little wink. I I love Karen Culkin. Oh my god. By the way, Devil Wears Prada 2 is coming out on May 1st. Oh, really? Okay. And everyone's in it. What's the story this time? Well, you've got Meryl, you've got Ann Hathaway, you've got Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt, they're all back. They're all back. Only this time, they're starting off sort of where they left off. In other words, um Anne Hathaway has blossomed and turned into this fabulous house. Right. Editor. And so um what exactly are they doing? I think they're mostly swanning around in gorgeous clothes and saying witty things to one another. Okay. Uh and I have a feeling that it might not I let's put it this way, if you're a Devil Wears Prada fan, if you know the cerulean blue by heart, if you know that monologue by heart, if you're one of those, you'll probably love this, or at least have fun watching it.
SPEAKER_04I uh I also want to say uh Anne Hathaway looked fabulous last night at the Oscars. She looked incredible, absolutely wonderful, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, what was hilarious was that her partner presenter was Anna Winter. Oh, right, yeah. And uh yeah. It was something to see Anna Winter on a stage with no glasses on.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I don't know if I didn't see that.
SPEAKER_01I actually saw her eyes.
SPEAKER_04Wow, I didn't know she had them.
SPEAKER_01I don't know about that hair hair helmet that she still wears.
SPEAKER_04I yeah, it's a trademark thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I know. I just don't it makes me wonder like what is that hair? What's her hair like? Do you know what I mean? Yeah, do you know what I mean? Like, what does it feel like? Yeah, is it like a helmet? Is it like entirely hairspray and product? Or is it is there any softness to it, any sulkiness? What does she look like that when she wakes up?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's quite possible, actually.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it definitely seems like it's something she like puts on her head in the morning and then takes off and puts on a mannequin at night.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But not it's but it's not a wig. Right, no, no, no, it's it's just this weird, I don't know. It's been so long, it's been like 50 years already. Wow. With that hair. And uh, can you imagine what she could do with a haircut? Oh my god. She could turn into someone. Wow. She could be a person.
SPEAKER_04She could actually be a person.
SPEAKER_01Maybe maybe there's a person hiding under there.
SPEAKER_04I also want to mention someone else who looked fabulous.
SPEAKER_01Who?
SPEAKER_04Uh Melissa McCarthy.
SPEAKER_01Oh, she looked great. She was wearing black and silver also.
SPEAKER_04That's right.
SPEAKER_01She looked fabulous. She was in that thing with Kristen Wigg, and they were doing something. Was it about women? Was it about I'm not sure, but there were five five women on stage in doing things. That same doing things. Yeah, so Melissa McCarthy and Kirsten Weg were two of them.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
Project Hail Mary Movie Hype
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So go check that out. Go look at the women doing things. Yeah, I mean, I like seeing women doing things. Guess what's coming out on Friday, people? Uh, don't know what. Project Hail Mary. Oh, really? Yes. Okay. Now, if you if you haven't read Project Hail Mary, you probably should have two choices. You can give it a quick read or give it a listen on Audible. They did a great job with that book.
SPEAKER_04It's by Andy Weir, the guy who did The Martian. Um and a bunch of other stuff, but yeah. They're sending Ryan Reynolds up there. That's right. They're sending Ryan Reynolds to save uh our part of the universe.
SPEAKER_01And I don't know how he will do. Um we'll find out, but he's not an astronaut. No. No. That's sad.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, what is he exactly? He's a teacher. Oh, yeah, that's right. High school, right? Uh, I think it is high school. I don't know. I think it might be high school.
SPEAKER_04Community college or something. Yeah. Um anyway, yeah. It's a great story. I absolutely loved the book. I have wondered ever since I read the book how they were gonna turn it into a movie. And so I guess I'm going to find out here.
SPEAKER_01Well, from everything I've heard, they did a really magnificent job.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
In Memoriam And Redford Goodbye
SPEAKER_01One thing I want to mention, I feel like our time must be ebbing away. Yeah, we're we're getting down there a little bit. Down there a little bit. Yeah, got nine minutes. Okay. The in memorium this year was brilliantly done. They really did it well. And it was very painful because the first thing that happened was the Billy Crystal came out, and they had a huge letterbox screen. Um, this would not be for tall and thin movies. Right, yeah. Um, that came up, and there was Rob and Michelle Reiner. Oh god, yeah. And he gave a beautiful, obviously short eulogy and uh a rundown of what he did uh as a filmmaker. And the the list of films is just ridiculous when you It sure is. I mean, you've got everything from this is Spinal Tap to Shawshank Redemption and to the Princess Princess Bride and Um Stand by Me. You can't handle the truth. Right, what's the name of a few good men? So many of them films. Incredible. So um that was very painful, yeah. And then just when I was recovering from that, and then they were showing a lot of other people. They did a did a thing about Diane Keaton that was beautiful, um Katherine O'Hara um was, you know, some people got a little extra, but then Robert Redford, oh boy, his face came up on that screen, and I just wanted to set my hair on fire. I'm so sad that he is gone. I I can't, but of course, who came out to eulogize him? Barbara Streisand.
SPEAKER_04Oh, how wonderful.
SPEAKER_01And she gave a beautiful talk, and then she sang the end of the way we were. Oh, really? Yeah. So I was like reduced to I was beyond crying.
SPEAKER_04I just felt myself quivering little puddle at this point.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just felt myself, you know, getting smaller and smaller and having less and less substance. Yeah. Um, so that whole part of it was done really beautifully. And time was taken. You know, there have been years when they just flash a picture of someone in their name, flash another picture.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
Closing Thoughts And Tommy DiCarlo
SPEAKER_01Um this year they really took time. Now, obviously, some people were left out, like Neil Sadaka, for instance. Yeah. But I was surprised to see his daughter with her husband Jason Bateman. They were both there. Well, that was our Oscar Roundup. Yeah. I hope you enjoyed being with us. We obviously didn't get to everything, but no. Like we were saying, go look it up. Yeah. Check it out. Look up Conan's stuff online. He he was killer.
SPEAKER_04He was really so funny.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. He was fantastic. Well the last human host of the Oscars. Oh. Yeah, there was something very heartbreaking about about the whole thing, in a way. It did seem like an era is coming to a close. But we'll see what happens. I'd like to mention Tommy DiCarlo. The singer of the band Boston passed away in the last week. And well, for Tommy DiCarlo, please put a line on.
SPEAKER_02I don't get drowned. I'm not a blueprint.
