Hello again and good morning. I'm Baron Battlebred, the game master of Whispers and Regate. When we last left off our time, breakers had just enjoyed a little bit of the festival and then Thaddeus decided to steal a helmet, with a gruff dwarf voice chasing after him as he walks way into the crowd.
Speaker 2:Timebreakers Time Timebreakers. How do you guys feel about taking orders from Sarah in battle?
Speaker 1:I feel like we should ask that question in battle Right now. I want Thaddeus to tell me what he's doing, walking away into the crowd with his stolen helmet.
Speaker 3:I'm walking and I'm thinking I need to get this somewhere where I can analyze it more thoroughly.
Speaker 1:Alright, as you walk off into the crowd, I believe you flipped the bird to the vendor. Was that correct? No, I didn't. Are you sure, gaslight yeah.
Speaker 4:I'm sure I think you did.
Speaker 1:I feel like you did I thought he did too.
Speaker 2:Thaddeus, roll your gaslight, check Nat one.
Speaker 1:Go ahead and roll me intimidation or stealth. Are you going to try and hide in the crowd or are you going to try and intimidate the vendor to not come after you?
Speaker 3:I'm going to turn around and intimidate the vendor to not come after me. Yeah, okay.
Speaker 1:Go for it. Twelve Okay, let's just see how brave this vendor is. Ooh, that's a fifteen. You watch as the dwarf steps out from behind his stall and picks up a hand axe. He says, hey, you better come back here with that and he starts stepping towards you.
Speaker 3:What can you tell me about the enchantment on this helmet? Are you talking to the vendor? Yes, I'm talking to the vendor. I'm talking to you, vendor. It's hard to tell.
Speaker 1:What can you tell me about the enchantment on this helmet? He says what enchantment? It's just a helmet. It came in with the products. We put it out on the shelf.
Speaker 3:Who brought the products in?
Speaker 1:There was a box waiting here. We set up the stall, we put out the products. What we do? Are you going to buy it or are you going to give it back?
Speaker 3:This helmet has an illegal enchantment on it. I'm taking it with me to be analyzed.
Speaker 4:Huh, we don't know if it's illegal. That's suspicious. You just went straight to illegal, unauthorized.
Speaker 3:And I turn around and keep walking, okay.
Speaker 1:Roll me. Okay, I'm just gonna ask this Do you believe it's a legal enchantment? No, then roll me a deception check Five. That was a five. It's gonna be tough to beat. He got another 15. He says there's no enchantment on the helm. Bring it back here or I'm gonna call the guards.
Speaker 3:Really there's no enchantment on this helm, then I don't think you would mind wearing it.
Speaker 1:Are you scared of no helm? Okay, come here. So I hand him the helmet. He puts it on his head. No enchantment on this helm Just trying to steal merchandise People.
Speaker 2:Hang on hey guys, I make a wisdom saving throw. You got a six. He turns back towards you and he says hey God, did I make a wisdom saving throw?
Speaker 1:You got a six. He turns back towards you and he says See, I told you there was no enchantment on this helm. Now how about I offer you one for the convenience?
Speaker 2:Sounds a little different.
Speaker 1:Would you like this other helm from the top shelf? I'm sure you would enjoy it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you're a little different now, oh.
Speaker 3:The other helmet that he's offering. Is it also enchanted?
Speaker 1:Yes, it is the second helmet from the top shelf. Perfect, I'll take it. Excellent, that'll be one gold piece. I offer you a discount for being so generous earlier.
Speaker 3:Really, how about you give it to me as a token of your appreciation of me and also for wasting my time?
Speaker 1:Oh, dear me. I wasted your time. Yes. I would never seek to do such a thing. Roll me a persuasion check With advantage Six With advantage, with advantage.
Speaker 3:Normal dice rolls.
Speaker 2:Do you?
Speaker 3:have any inspiration? Nope, used it last time to get the helmet.
Speaker 2:You know, what Can I give you inspiration for? Your fucking, give it to me for free.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you can.
Speaker 2:Alright, you have inspiration, go ahead and use it.
Speaker 3:Okay cool, I'm gonna roll that again. Nope 10 is the best I can do, oh my god, I was persuasion and you only get a 10.
Speaker 2:Oh, yeah, oh, that's okay because he got a 5.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so he got a 5, which, with his single bonus, still comes out under 10. And he goes. Oh my goodness, I can't believe that I would waste the time of such a fine patron such as yourself here. You may take it with you and do tell others about us. We'll call it an even trade.
Speaker 3:Yes, yes, that sounds amenable.
Speaker 1:The dwarf steps back behind his stall, he takes down the helmet, he hands it to him and then he goes. Helms for sale. Helms, helms for sale. Do honor to helm with a helm for sale. You now have an enchanted helmet in your hands. What would you like to do?
Speaker 3:Continue with my original plan, which was to get this helmet somewhere where it can be analyzed.
Speaker 1:Where would you like to go to analyze?
Speaker 3:the helmet. Well, I happen to know of an artificer in the future. Oh do you? He might still be at his workshop.
Speaker 1:Please describe to me this artificer.
Speaker 3:Well, he's a little bit short and he is an owl.
Speaker 1:Why don't you go ahead and roll me a history check and we'll see if he has the shop set up currently 22. Mav, did Rolt have a shop before Regate was sacrificed?
Speaker 2:Yeah, he's been a part of this city for a long time.
Speaker 1:Alright, while this is going on, where?
Speaker 4:is everybody else.
Speaker 2:I'm right next to them.
Speaker 4:I think it could be useful to try to find another company to see if they have like a stall.
Speaker 1:Okay, so are you wandering around looking to see if they have something?
Speaker 4:Yes.
Speaker 1:Okay, and Sarah, you're next to Thaddeus watching this all happen.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Okay, and what is Elise doing?
Speaker 2:Elise is going to not go with Shimmer, even though they're pretty close. So she's going to say to Shimmer I apologize, my lady, I cannot go with you. I cannot run the risk of running into myself, as it were, creating some sort of time paradox.
Speaker 4:I understand we don't want what happened to Thaddeus to happen to you. That wouldn't be good. I will find you later. We shall meet up later.
Speaker 2:Excellent, I shall see you soon.
Speaker 4:Shimmer will nod and be on her way. I will find you later.
Speaker 2:We shall meet up later. Excellent, I shall see you soon. Shimmer will nod and be on her way, and then Elise will probably skulk through dark areas, keeping an eye on all sorts of city activities.
Speaker 1:Okay, so while this is going on, let's start with Shimmer Shimmer. You're wandering around with the intent on finding if the Nata Company has a stall out today. Roll me an investigation check. I will give you advantage because you know who you're looking for.
Speaker 4:Advantage Roll. Oh, it was so close. To a net 20. 16 total.
Speaker 1:You wander back and forth through the bazaar checking out all the stalls, checking out all the people, and you see that there are a number of empty spaces currently that have been reserved by the NADA company in succession, but it looks like they're currently still setting up. You do see a number of people milling about the stalls putting products out. They're hanging banners. You see a couple people with clipboards giving directions. There's a lot of hubbub in this area.
Speaker 4:Is there anyone I would recognize as an investor?
Speaker 1:As an investor. Yes, with a 16,. You see standing at the back of the pack with one of the clipboards. You watch as several of the people with clipboards walk over to the individual and when they look up from their own clipboard, you see Alia standing there Effectively, one of the co-owner CEOs of the Nata company.
Speaker 4:I'm going to approach her.
Speaker 1:Hello, is this the Nata?
Speaker 4:company. I'm going to approach her. Okay, hello, is this the Nata company?
Speaker 1:Yes, it is. Do you have a product?
Speaker 4:No, I've heard such good things about your company. I was wondering if you could tell me more. I could possibly I was considering potentially coming on as an investor.
Speaker 1:Oh, an investor already. We haven't even finished setting up. Well, I suppose, yes, well, sales pitch time, isn't it? We at the Nautic Company like to invest in the people around us, in the community around us and the inventors around us, especially the weird and wacky and wild ideas that they have. We like to give them funding and they, in turn, allow us to brand their product with our name and, in turn, from that we have a team of artificers who help mass-produce the item and we get it out to the people to help ease the connection between technology and magic.
Speaker 4:Shimmer will nod. That sounds extraordinarily like an extraordinarily good business.
Speaker 1:We believe so.
Speaker 2:You are definitely abusing future knowledge here.
Speaker 4:Yes, I would like to use future knowledge to sort of very subtly put in conversation, in a conversation about like ideas, potential ideas that could help expand the business and like well, but only imply them, not really actually give any suggestions yet until she's fully on board with, you know, the whole investor thing okay, okay, um, let's start with a wisdom save, so I will have that role as we progress oh, oh, that's not good. Eight.
Speaker 1:Okay, so you start talking to Talia as a potential investor, about things that you understand from what you've learned in the future, things that they haven't quite-.
Speaker 1:I feel like this is entirely also on accident, as she doesn't really know what she shouldn't know either Right, like most of what information you're sharing is just good business practice like yes you absolutely should be going out there and using your money to fund these individuals, like right now, you guys are having this showing in the festival, but then you could have more private showings for fancier things that you know you wouldn't give to the general public but but very specific publics can have. Do you bring up any of the NADA products that you have? Seen in the future? None at all.
Speaker 4:No, both for paradoxical reasons, and also she isn't fully involved in the money portion and she doesn't want to give them ideas until she's solid there.
Speaker 1:Okay, so go ahead and roll me a persuasion check as you continue to get on Talia's good side 26. Damn. Yeah, that's gonna work. It takes maybe 15 minutes of talking with Talia before you are Hold on.
Speaker 2:Isn't your minimum roll like 26?
Speaker 4:No, my minimum is 23. Okay.
Speaker 1:You take all of 15 minutes of talking with Talia before it feels like you're talking to an old friend and just they're loving everything you're saying, they're taking notes of like, yeah, no, we're doing a good job, this is confirmation and affirmation and you're you're hitting all the right notes of the conversation. And then you're interrupted for just a moment as one of the other clipboarded individuals comes up, ask a question, distracts talia for just a second. Uh, as they answer and they turn back to you and they go oh right, that reminds me. Uh, you started our meeting by saying that you wanted to become an investor.
Speaker 4:Yes indeed.
Speaker 1:What exactly were you looking to invest?
Speaker 4:I am from a noble family. I have the funds to invest financially.
Speaker 1:Oh, we do love a good, noble family.
Speaker 4:For a small stake in the company, for some money in return, of course, good business practices.
Speaker 1:Oh yes, indeed, the stock options are phenomenal here Stock options, the reggae trading broker firms. Oh yeah, which noble family are you from, by chance?
Speaker 4:I'm from the Whitemore family from Farview.
Speaker 1:That is quite far away.
Speaker 4:Indeed it is.
Speaker 1:You came all the way to our fair city to invest in our company.
Speaker 4:It was one of the many reasons things that attracted me here.
Speaker 1:That is fascinating. I'm shocked to find that we've spread so far so quickly. This is very good news indeed. Okay, okay, uh, I suppose that we should drop a contract.
Speaker 4:Indeed, we should, that is, that would be when? Uh, what would be a good time to just sit down. It seems you're quite busy right now.
Speaker 1:Oh yes, we are setting up for the uh, for the evening set of the of the festival. We must be prepared for all of the people who have been working in the festival to be relieved of their shifts and to come through a second time.
Speaker 4:Indeed Very important. So we should set a time within the next few days to sit down and get a contract set.
Speaker 1:Okay, sit down and get a contract set, Uh, okay. Uh, tomorrow my partner will be the one out here in control of the stalls and I will be taking care of business at the warehouse.
Speaker 4:Um, so I will meet you then, Okay and I assume we set a date and a specific time and everything.
Speaker 1:Yes, sure, early morning, late evening, either one of those will be perfectly fine and I will meet you at the warehouse and we will take care of the contract.
Speaker 4:Early morning, I think would be good, Right then.
Speaker 1:I will see you bright and early first thing tomorrow.
Speaker 4:Of course, thank you. It will be quite a pleasure working with you and she will leave after shaking hands and everything.
Speaker 1:After you shake hands with Talia, she turns around to also walk away towards her stalls and you see her head give like a little bobble of excitement, Like yay, another investor.
Speaker 4:And.
Speaker 1:I'm going to go off and try to find the others. Okay, speaking of going off to find the others, I forgot if Elise was following Thaddeus and Sarah or not. She was not. No, okay, so Elise moved off on her own. Okay, elise, you have faded into the crowd of the Black Sun Festival. There are people from all over the continent here. You see people in fancy robes. You see people dressed as paupers. There's just anyone, and everyone who could make the trip is here in the city today.
Speaker 2:What are you up to, at least still has an uneasy feeling about the entirety of what they're going through. So, more or less, she is being far over attentive than she should be Got it.
Speaker 1:Go ahead and roll me a history check 26. You are looking around very focused, very suspicious, just keeping an eye on everything. When you catch a glimpse of somebody you recognize A kind of scarred and grizzled human in a very fine suit is standing at a stall covered in stone jewelry. You remember his name is Mordren. You have worked with him before.
Speaker 2:How recently, at this point, had Elise worked with him.
Speaker 1:It has been several months since you last interacted with Mordrin.
Speaker 3:So less likely for Several months and three years in the future.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I'm taking that to mean seven months prior to this moment in time, several months prior to this.
Speaker 1:You had a good enough history roll. It's been seven months since Lass had to interact with Mordred, but his bulbous nose, beady eyes and his wiry beard dead giveaway on who he is, despite the fine-cut suit he's wearing.
Speaker 3:Why did you just describe me?
Speaker 1:She'll approach Mordred. You approach his stall and he turns towards you Holding a small box with a fancy, with a fancy gold ring With several small gems cut into it, and he says Aha, customer, how would you, elise, what are you doing here?
Speaker 2:Hello Mordrem. It seems business Is doing well for you then.
Speaker 1:Yes, despite your best efforts, Come to gloat Samael.
Speaker 2:You're not worth my best efforts.
Speaker 1:Are you here to buy a ring or not? Is?
Speaker 2:Mordrem in existence three years later. He is not Sad, sad.
Speaker 4:It sounds like you work on good terms.
Speaker 2:No, she's not about to save him from any kind of outcome. She's more likely to try and suss out if he's someone responsible. I wouldn't tip these rings with a ten-foot pole. You'd know this.
Speaker 1:Please, everyone knows I sell the finest goods this side of wherever we are.
Speaker 2:This side of the aisle, I forget the name of this neighborhood, of wherever we are, this side of the aisle.
Speaker 1:I forget the name of this neighborhood. You know, I wouldn't be caught dead here unless I had to be.
Speaker 2:Why do you have to be?
Speaker 1:Those are the rules. Everyone has to work the stalls at least one day. I prefer to be in the shop, thank you.
Speaker 2:You wouldn't happen to have any plans for the rest of the uh of the festival, would you?
Speaker 1:Yes, I plan on going out and enjoying it with my wife. No, I'm gonna stay home and I'm going to drink fine wines and I'm going to laugh at the people who get their things stolen. It's what I do.
Speaker 2:I forgot somebody would marry you.
Speaker 1:It was surprising when I first heard yes, well, where do you think these rings came from? Wow, if you're not going to purchase an item, I suggest that you scuttle along. You're scaring away the customer.
Speaker 2:Elise will walk away. And as she's walking away, mage Hand one of the displays over Wow. Just couldn't knock it over yeah, without her being noticed about it at all, right.
Speaker 1:Because it's invisible. Your mage hand is invisible.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no somatic or verbal components. She just like pushes it over without him seeing her.
Speaker 1:As you walk away, you knock over one of his displays and you hear the clattering of jewelry hitting the ground. The ping ping ping. One of his displays and you hear the clattering of jewelry hitting the ground. The ping ping, ping, ping, ping, ping ping as rings start bouncing in all directions and you hear Mordren go ugh, not again. And then you hear just a long descent upon these items on the ground as the individuals around die for free items.
Speaker 2:There is absolutely a sinister pleasure within Elise at this idea of Mordred being overrun by the rabble.
Speaker 1:Yes, Specifically overrun by the rabble and you can just hear him behind you getting fainter and fainter as he's fighting for the items Like no, you can't have that for free. You need to give me that back. Anybody who picks up a ring, I will give you a copper for its return.
Speaker 3:The only person that hands it back is a half-orc Sure.
Speaker 1:Alright, other than that, you don't see anyone else you recognize in the current throngs of people around you today, which takes us back to thaddeus. Thaddeus. You and sarah are on your way to an alchemist shop.
Speaker 3:Did you say alchemist or did you say alchemist?
Speaker 1:I said alchemist. Obviously it takes you of about 40 minutes to make your way there with the tight pack of people on all the main roads, but you make your way from the bazaar through the shipping lanes and into the Arcane Isle where you come to Rolt's Shop. What is the name of Rolt's Shop? It's just Rolt's Laboratory, rolt's Laboratory. You knock on the door. Mav, is Rolt at home on the first day of the festival?
Speaker 2:Yeah, rolt he's not the type to enjoy a festival at all, but it is Straug that answers the door. Wait, straug, already existed, yeah.
Speaker 4:Nice. I think he was working on the plant by this point.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 4:Alrighty.
Speaker 1:Thaddeus, what greets you at the door is not an alchemist, but a floating pasta dish.
Speaker 2:A living casserole Strog.
Speaker 3:I mean, I haven't talked to you in quite some time, Rolt, but you certainly have changed.
Speaker 2:Who is at the door Strog? Ah yes, come in, come in. Shut the door. Tight my ingredients? They're sensitive to the sonic energies of this disgusting festival. Disgusting festival.
Speaker 1:Rolt's not a people person.
Speaker 2:No, he's not a parties person. Hold on, have I met Rolt?
Speaker 1:before Sarah wouldn't have. No. No, Thaddeus and Sarah, you step into Rolt's laboratory. Go ahead and describe it, I guess. What do they see?
Speaker 2:So we've got the laboratory is dimly lit, stone flooring. We've got ingredients of all kinds. It goes from alchemical ingredients to culinary ingredients, to brewing ingredients, and they're all mixed and blended in such a way that it's a gradient of types of ingredients. At the center you have several alchemists, tools and orders and pestles. You've got cauldrons. You've got potion vials. Everywhere there's several slight bioluminescent glows along the walls and Rolt's in the middle of mixing together two ingredients One a green, glowing liquid and another is a pink, opaque volume.
Speaker 3:Hey Rolt, Sorry to drop in unannounced and everything, but I was wondering if you could help me take a look at this helmet.
Speaker 2:Most certainly. Oh, I just need a moment. A minor explosion Bounce me down. Hmm, improper volumes Gets me every time Strong. Clean this up, please. Excellent, now I shall take a look. What do you have for?
Speaker 3:me today. Thaddeus pulls out the helmet and he sets it on the table.
Speaker 1:Yeah, okay, you are staring at a. This helm doesn't have horns on it, but it does have the full face visor. It appears to be made of a black metallic, like it's a metal helmet, but it's got a full face visor. It appears to be made of a black metallic, like it's a metal helmet, but it's got a black coating on it. Again, just the eye holes, no nose holes, no mouth holes, but it is in the shape of a face.
Speaker 3:As you can see, it's a black metal helmet in the shape of a face. It doesn't have horns on it, like the last helmet that I had, but it has a strange enchantment about it and I'm trying to discern what it is, because the last person to wear something like this was very, very forthcoming.
Speaker 2:Yes, yes, I have eyes, but I appreciate your assistance. I really think that the only portion of that that was relevant was the you know, complete 180 in personality as soon as they put the helmet on From angry to most hopeful. You are so correct there. Rolt is actually going to approach Sarah very keen. Oh yeah, on Rolt, sarah, on this machine that has been given life. Sarah Rolt, you are intriguing Little specimen, as are you owl. I am most appreciative. I don't think I've ever seen a humanoid owl before. Oh, we aren't many, that's for sure, but all kinds, just like that elephant earlier, edirath Mok, are you? I don't mean to, I don't mean this question in an insulting manner. Are you intelligent? I't mean to. I don't mean this question in an insulting manner. Are you intelligent? I think I am Excellent. You see, strog is much the same. He has an intelligence all of his own, a sapience, an existence of thorough imagination. Yes, that's what I just said, strog. That too, that who I admit.
Speaker 1:Stroke is going to nod at you and continue cleaning up the mess you made.
Speaker 3:While they're having that conversation, I'm going through my backpack looking for my Smith's tools and stuff to help with the investigation of the helmet, and I pull out the tankard of plenty and just leave it on the table.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 1:Alright, so you find your smith's tools. You keep them on you pretty regularly. How would you like to investigate this helmet Um?
Speaker 3:Rolt I defer to you. You know more about this weird stuff than I do. I'm more of a practical person.
Speaker 2:Unfortunately, as am I, so we may be equally adept. However, I think if we put our minds together, we approach this from multiple angles at once, we can discover the exact mechanisms behind your enchantment. Enchantment, okay, I agree, that's valid.
Speaker 1:So who wants to roll me the Arcana check and who wants to help?
Speaker 3:Uh, uh. What is rolt's arcana? Five minus seven, I will go got it.
Speaker 1:So, thaddeus, with rolt's help, you guys go over this helmet top to bottom, the best of your abilities. Go ahead and roll me your arcana check with advantage 25. Nice about time I got a good roll. With the addition of Sarah's previous input, your own personal experience with what happened when the other individual put the helmet on, and Ralt's slightly magical understanding, you come to the conclusion that this helm has a charm person spell on it.
Speaker 3:Interesting, it seems to be a charm person spell on it.
Speaker 2:That's a most to be a charm person spell on it. That's a most astute observation. Why would somebody place the charm person inward like this, instead of outward?
Speaker 1:That is a good question. Rolt, roll me an investigation. Check that is only an 11. While you did roll an 11, that is better than the 10 that you needed. So by having the spell turn inward, you believe that someone who puts the helmet on and becomes charmed is far easier to manage than attempting to charm them yourself.
Speaker 2:This helmet is a bit diabolical if you think about it. I am not for this type of magic. I do not like the imposition against one's free will.
Speaker 3:Neither do I.
Speaker 1:Thaddeus, since you've been out and about, roll me a wisdom check. That was a 21. Heck, yeah, a 21. You were wandering the stalls earlier today. There are a lot of helmets out there, like an extraordinary amount.
Speaker 3:Well, Rolt, it seems that there is a reason why there are more helmets than I remember from last time.
Speaker 2:Do you believe it to be a conspiracy? Several of these helmets subjugating the masses?
Speaker 3:Quite possibly.
Speaker 2:Most dubious.
Speaker 1:Yeah, if there are 20 or 30 vendors selling just two of these helmets, that's 40 to 60 people who just conform into a mob.
Speaker 3:Very dangerous. Yeah, if there are 20 to 30 people selling these helmets and 40 to 60 people, that's like a mob Well, two less now that you have one and people.
Speaker 1:It's like a mob Well, two less now that you have one and the other one is on a vendor.
Speaker 3:Two less now that I have one and the other one's on the vendor, by the way. I asked the vendor where he got these and he just said that the shipment arrived and he was just setting them up. So even he didn't know.
Speaker 2:It seems that the strategy is sort of foul. They plan to, if I'm understanding this correctly and I'm deducing here someone means to inflict upon our festival a dreadful festival, mind you a mob to attack. Why would they do that? The festival is dreadful, sure, but harmful, negative.
Speaker 3:That's what you think.
Speaker 2:What was that?
Speaker 3:I'll explain later.
Speaker 2:Yes, be sure to.
Speaker 4:Holt in the future, finds Thaddeus, makes him explain.
Speaker 2:What was that? Thing?
Speaker 1:You were going to say something to me like three years ago. What was that? Alright, you believe you investigated this helmet to the best of your ability. What?
Speaker 3:would you like to do now?
Speaker 1:with it this information Thaddeus.
Speaker 3:Now that we know this, I tell Rolt okay, I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna take the helmet with me. I need to present this as evidence.
Speaker 2:Yes, be sure to. I'm not a huge fan of the guards, mind you, but they may be the most well-equipped to handle this situation.
Speaker 3:Ooh, I agree. In that moment I'm packing up the helmet and I'm packing up my tools, and that's it.
Speaker 1:Okay, so you want to present it as evidence? Where do you want to take it? Just so that I know.
Speaker 3:I think we are going to take it to the only people that we can trust At this point, which is the lizard, and, uh, prince Venor or Velour Vernor, yeah, that's what I said.
Speaker 1:V-E-R-N-O-R.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that's exactly what I said you said Prince Velour.
Speaker 1:His name is Prince Vernor Liridon IV Exactly what I said.
Speaker 2:Our lizard friend is Luis Ignatius Zephyr.
Speaker 1:Yeah exactly what I said. Okay, that's the first half. What's the second half?
Speaker 2:Arcane Reader of Divination.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it is. Do you have an inspiration Dai?
Speaker 2:Yeah, from the last time I brought it up.
Speaker 1:Have another one, double up, thaddeus. You and Sarah go to leave Walt's shop, the helmet bundled up, to make your way towards the lizard On the way, running into Shimmer and Elise as they're currently perusing the festival. You guys run into each other back at the square Pretty easy, honestly.
Speaker 4:Can I say that the entire time of it since we've gotten back from our quest, Shimmer has been in her noble human look. Just I think that's yeah.
Speaker 1:Your noble human look, instead of your noble adventurer look.
Speaker 4:Instead of looking like a changeling.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you have your noble face on. You see, like a changeling. Yeah, you have your noble face on.
Speaker 2:You see behind you as Sarah just starts messing with her voice box because she figured out that she accidentally muted herself a while ago.
Speaker 1:I thought I thought you were busy. I didn't question it.
Speaker 2:I was.
Speaker 1:I didn't question it. So you guys, if you so wish, you can head to the lizard tonight to present your evidence.
Speaker 2:That sounds like a very pertinent thing given the implications of these helmets and any potential ramifications that they could have with our little Grablow.
Speaker 4:Well, Blizzard said he would call us today anyway, so may as well get ahead of the jump, I guess, with this thing.
Speaker 3:While we're on our way and everything like that. Since we've now meet up with Elise and Shimmer, I explain to Elise and Shimmer how the helmet Is a Enchantment that makes people more susceptible and controllable with a charm spell.
Speaker 2:I thought we were done with our troubles in this. Oh, do you think it has any connection to the cults? The cults we're trying to stop? Most likely. I agree with Sarah the cults, the cults were trying to stop?
Speaker 3:Yeah, most likely. I agree with Sarah.
Speaker 4:The thing is, though, didn't Thaddeus say that there were more helmets around than there were last time?
Speaker 1:Yes, there was a surprising number of helmets being sold than were seen during the original festival, at least according to Thaddeus' image.
Speaker 2:This is a deviation from our past, very disappointing.
Speaker 3:Well, whatever it is, we need to do something about it.
Speaker 4:Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1:Elise, with such a belief of the deviation, go ahead and roll me Arcana, because you know that magic brought you back here 16. It is reasonable to assume that magic might have affected someone else as well. Above the table.
Speaker 2:I kind of figured that it was that fairy that went back in time with us, what Like out of game. It's kind of what I'm imagining is going on.
Speaker 4:It's that one guard Dylan.
Speaker 2:That son of a bitch, dylan. We'll break his other leg.
Speaker 1:I'm pretty sure you guys broke both of his legs the first time.
Speaker 2:We'll break his arms. Go back and break his arms. Go back and break his jaw.
Speaker 1:Anyway. So you guys head over to the castle. As the day comes to evening, you guys make your way over to the castle with the knowledge that somebody is attempting to change the past for the worse. You make your way into the castle with your helmet evidence. You are not stopped by the guard. This time they recognize you guys as a group. Everybody has been warned of your coming and goings and it is very easy to make your way through the castle and into the lizard's office. The door is open this time and you see the lizard at his desk, the star in a jar still sitting in front of him, as he continues to cast his spells.
Speaker 4:I'm going to knock out of politeness before stepping in. He jumps slightly.
Speaker 1:Ah I wasn't sleeping.
Speaker 2:I wasn't sleeping.
Speaker 4:You were casting spells, how could you cast? Okay then? Uh, we have discovered something troubling, and I'm going to gesture for Thaddeus to put the helm on the desk.
Speaker 3:Thaddeus will put the helmet on the desk and describe the helmet in great detail.
Speaker 1:Ah oh Well, this is troubling news. Indeed, a mind-controlling helmet, tell me, have you put it on yet? No, no it, tell me, have you put it?
Speaker 3:on. Yet no, no, and I would like to roll perception because he's seeming a little bit shady. That would be insight. I would like to roll insight because he's seeming a little bit shady.
Speaker 2:I was thinking the same thing, except using detect thoughts.
Speaker 1:Okay, thaddeus, go ahead and roll insight, elise. I have to make a wisdom save against your detect thoughts. Okay, Thaddeus, go ahead and roll insight, elise, I have to make a wisdom.
Speaker 2:Save against your detect thoughts. Not well it is. Let me read the spell and then I'll get back to you.
Speaker 1:Okay, We'll start with Thaddeus' insight check Eight. I mean he is an arcane caster. This is probably just a generic way of asking for what information that you have besides the description of the item.
Speaker 3:Thaddeus just thinks to himself that, well, he is an arcane caster and this is probably just his way of getting the information that he has For surface level.
Speaker 2:thoughts detect, thoughts does give you a saving throw. It's when you probe deeper, do you?
Speaker 1:cast it. Yes, do you try to hide that you're casting it?
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:Is it verbal or semantic? Actually, it's both Got it. So roll me sleight of hand or stealth, whichever one you feel is more relevant.
Speaker 4:Can shimmer help somehow, duh.
Speaker 1:Can Shimmer help somehow? Duh, how would Shimmer help?
Speaker 4:Maybe maneuver a little bit so that it sort of locks a somatic opponent of her, casting it with her hand so the lizards can't see her as easily.
Speaker 1:Okay, shimmer.
Speaker 3:Okay, Shimmer Thaddeus kind of moves in front of Elise as well.
Speaker 1:Okay, so it looks like your teammates are attempting to help you out, so I will let you roll with advantage against my perception 27. That's pretty good, but will it beat my natural 1?
Speaker 2:It might, it might, it might. There's a 50-50 there.
Speaker 1:Unfortunately for you, I have a plus 28 to percent. No, I can see all with my lizard eyes. No, he does not recognize that you're casting a spell and so you cast a a spell. He's not even looking at you. He's very intently studying this helmet and you uh read into his thoughts and what's going on in there is essentially, oh god, not a charm spell. I hate charm spells. Wonder if we put this on, if there's a way out of it, can we take it off ourselves? Is the item cursed? Oh god, oh Helm, oh Helm. But yeah. So you see him just kind of puttering about going over the whole thing. You see him pull out a scroll. He identifies it. He's like yep, this is definitely a charm spell. I still haven't figured out if it's cursed or not. Oh God, it sure would suck if nobody could take these helmets off. If they were charmed. You sure you don't want to try it on? I mean, I could probably remove it.
Speaker 4:There is, uh, I believe, the shop vendor that Thaddeus got it from put it on. Is that correct? Is that what I assume? Thaddeus told us the whole story.
Speaker 3:Yeah, well, yeah, I told him the whole story in great detail.
Speaker 1:Okay, so you watched somebody put the helmet on, and then you just left him out there.
Speaker 3:What was I going to do? He's trying to charge me money for this thing.
Speaker 1:You could have brought him with you. Maybe we could have saved him. I don't know.
Speaker 3:I'm sure he's still out there.
Speaker 1:It's a lot of work to go find a body. He's just a friend.
Speaker 2:It's not that big of a deal.
Speaker 4:Yes, but it would have been a good specimen.
Speaker 1:Yes, we could have done more investigations.
Speaker 2:Don't you have people around here?
Speaker 3:I'm sure you'll be able to find him.
Speaker 2:There's plenty of people in this castle that can be specimens. We're trying to get this done quickly, right?
Speaker 1:That is true. We are trying to get this done quickly.
Speaker 4:Come here. We don't really want someone with power to put it on, though, just in case he can't get it off and it is cursed.
Speaker 2:Right, you are milady. I hadn't thought of that.
Speaker 1:So probably not putting it on, Lord Handred.
Speaker 4:Probably not. That would be a bad idea.
Speaker 1:Ah, you guys are no fun. I think you'd get a kick out of it.
Speaker 4:I don't think his fiancé will.
Speaker 2:Gregory Gregory.
Speaker 1:Gregory, gregory, and a younger nervous guard is going to step in and he's going to say yes, mr Lizard, sir, sir, we need you to put this helmet on what I'm already wearing.
Speaker 3:A helmet, yes, but we need you to put this one on, but what is this one going to do to me?
Speaker 2:hold on his other helmet does something to him already well, you see, gregory, we're not entirely sure.
Speaker 1:We're hoping that it charms you just a little bit and that it can be taken off excuse me, mr Lizardman person, can we have Gregory disarm himself before he puts this on?
Speaker 4:That would be a good idea.
Speaker 1:Yes, gregory, do give the. Give the tiny robot lady your spear.
Speaker 2:I will accept his spear.
Speaker 1:You have another spear.
Speaker 2:Actually.
Speaker 1:I think this is your third spear that you've gotten from the guards, isn't it?
Speaker 2:I have three spears.
Speaker 1:I'm pretty sure this is your second or third spear that you've stolen from the guards.
Speaker 2:I don't think I've stolen any spears.
Speaker 3:I know you have and technically this isn't stealing.
Speaker 2:I blatantly ignored them and walked past them.
Speaker 1:I am 90% sure that you have a variety of long, large pointy objects on your person.
Speaker 4:It would make sense if they're his character though.
Speaker 1:Anyway. So you're currently holding the guard's spear and he takes his helmet off and he goes.
Speaker 3:All right, wait wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Before you do that, do you have any backup weapons?
Speaker 1:Oh, yeah, and he hands you, do that? Do you have any backup weapons? Oh yeah, and he hands you the dagger on the back of his belt.
Speaker 3:Do you have any other backup weapons?
Speaker 2:Backup, backup weapons. He reaches into his boot, pulls one out of his other helmet.
Speaker 1:No, no, just my hands. I need those to put the helmet on. Though Gregory picks up the blackened helm and he puts it on his head, he goes Uh, uh, okay, it's on. Now what? How do you feel, gregory? I feel like I'm wearing a helmet, with a bunch of people staring at me.
Speaker 2:I am staring very intensely. Would you kindly do, uh, with a bunch of people staring at me.
Speaker 4:I am staring very intensely. Would you kindly do specifically six jumping jacks.
Speaker 1:Do I have to?
Speaker 4:Not at all. You don't have to if you don't want to, I'd rather not.
Speaker 1:I am kind of, you know, wearing my whole. Get up here. Jumping jacks are really for unarmored individuals.
Speaker 3:Interesting. Gregory, can you take the helmet off?
Speaker 1:Oh God, I hope so.
Speaker 2:Don't have him take the helmet off, Christian.
Speaker 1:No, apparently, I'm not allowed to.
Speaker 2:She's going to be at least she's going to be looking at Gregory with her detect thoughts focused in on him, First to get the surface thoughts and then after that I'll probably have him do the wisdom save to go deeper.
Speaker 1:You attempt to read Gregory's mind with your detect thoughts spell and you are getting nothing, even if at least goes deeper with the thought detection. Yeah, you can't detect like you're getting nothing from Gregory.
Speaker 2:Okay, now take the helmet off for me please.
Speaker 1:He very tentatively reaches up and slips the helmet off of his head.
Speaker 2:Okay, Still no service thoughts. I appreciate the gesture you did for us that we could see. Are there still no thoughts? Oh, now there are thoughts. Okay.
Speaker 1:What are the thoughts? The thoughts are this is fucking weird.
Speaker 4:And if you probe deeper, a lot of people watch me put a helmet on.
Speaker 1:If you're probing deeper, I have to make a wisdom save, right? Yeah, what's the save? Number 17. Oh good, I got a 3. You probe deeper into Gregory's thoughts and he's like, god damn, every time I come into this lizard's office, they make me do something fucking weird here. Try on this, eat this item, put this helmet on your head. I don't understand what the prince sees in this guy.
Speaker 2:Stand in that circle.
Speaker 1:He draws me off my post. Who knows what kind of people are just walking around. If I'm not standing by the door, anybody could walk in there. It's my job to protect them. Tell me to come in here. I wonder what's for lunch.
Speaker 2:All right, I think everything's okay here For Gregory. It is strange that the enchantment never took hold, huh.
Speaker 1:It was enchanted.
Speaker 2:The helm was enchanted. Yeah, that's why we told you to put it on.
Speaker 1:You couldn't tell me that beforehand?
Speaker 2:Nah, I haven't read it.
Speaker 1:Give me that back. He goes to take his spear back from you, sarah.
Speaker 2:I'm gonna hold on to it.
Speaker 4:Until the lizard says you can have his spear back.
Speaker 1:Give him his spear back. The enchantment didn't work.
Speaker 4:Maybe this one's a dud. Maybe he has a way to resist somehow.
Speaker 1:Gregory resisted enchantment that man doesn't even know what he had for lunch today oh, that's a mood that wasn't in character so yes.
Speaker 2:I forgot my thought halfway through. Fuck. So did.
Speaker 1:Gregory Thaddeus takes the helmet and he puts it on. Yes, I forgot my thought halfway through go to Gregory.
Speaker 3:Thaddeus takes the helmet and he puts it on.
Speaker 1:Oh no roll me a wisdom save Thaddeus. You are charmed.
Speaker 3:Everyone in front of you is your best friend how do you feel you guys are like my best friends. I'm just so glad to be here right now is your best friend.
Speaker 2:Wow, how do you feel? You know, you guys are like my best friends and I'm just so glad to be here right now. Well, we can tell the enchantment's taken over.
Speaker 3:No way that we're going to pay something like that. You need a hug and you know what. You really need one of these helmets because they are so cool yeah.
Speaker 1:You absolutely want everyone to be wearing a helmet, just like you, because they make you feel so good inside.
Speaker 3:These helmets are fantastic. You just feel great. You'll love this.
Speaker 4:Can you take off the helmet? I'd like to.
Speaker 3:Take off the helmet. Why would I do that?
Speaker 2:I will try to forcibly remove it. Trang check.
Speaker 1:Thaddeus, sarah is attempting to forcibly remove your helmet and, as much as you love her as a person, you don't want to take the helmet off.
Speaker 3:I'm sorry, sarah, I'm afraid I can't let you do that and Thaddeus will press a button on Sarah to deactivate her.
Speaker 2:Ah shit, wow, god damn, I was not expecting that.
Speaker 4:Weird.
Speaker 3:Sarah must be malfunctioning. I'll have to take a look at her later.
Speaker 1:Fuck, it seems the enchantment composed them.
Speaker 3:But I'm telling you all right now, you have to try these helmets. They are really neat.
Speaker 4:I'm going to cast Suggestion on Thaddeus and ask him to give me the helmet.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 4:At third level. Wait, can I cast it at third level or only second?
Speaker 1:I don't know.
Speaker 4:I can cast it at third. Yeah, does it matter if I upcast it actually?
Speaker 1:I don't think so, go ahead and cast it at first level.
Speaker 4:I can only cast it at second actually.
Speaker 1:Go ahead and cast it at second level. I'm going to cast it second actually. Yeah, it's obvious.
Speaker 4:Go ahead and cast it at second level. So I'm going to cast it. It's a 19 wisdom save.
Speaker 1:You don't have to roll anything. Thaddeus.
Speaker 2:It doesn't work. Elise is going to cast sleep on him.
Speaker 4:I'll cast it at second level. That was my second, my plan B.
Speaker 1:Let me see here Sleep spell.
Speaker 2:Is that a charm? I think being charmed is irrelevant, because it's an effect that's going to force you to do something.
Speaker 4:Undead and creatures immune to being charmed aren't affected by the spell.
Speaker 1:He cannot be affected by sleep.
Speaker 3:While they're arguing amongst themselves about how to get the helmet off of Thaddeus. Thaddeus is just like you know what Today's a great day. I need to go, and he just walks out to go join the celebration and convince people of these wonderful helmets.
Speaker 4:I'm casting Hypnotic Pet. Wait, no, I can't do that. That's a Charms belt.
Speaker 3:Thaddeus has already left the room and he's walking out.
Speaker 1:You guys would recognize by now that attempting to charm him From being charmed is not working and he has left the room and Sarah is powered down.
Speaker 2:Oh, you're taking her with you, wow.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Fuck me, I guess.
Speaker 4:And I don't have Wand of Entangle equipped anymore. Do you need to attune to it? Yes, and all of my attunement slots are filled.
Speaker 1:So, shimmer Elise, Daddy has powered down, sarah tells you that you need to put a helmet on and your spells are not working. What are you going to do?
Speaker 2:I'm going to remain motionless.
Speaker 4:So we need to get him unconscious somehow, or hold him in a paralyzing or like hold him still. I mean Make him, so he can't move.
Speaker 1:Why don't you?
Speaker 2:just go pick him up. He is like three foot tall.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 3:No, I'm not. I'm a human. I'm a 5'8" Human Raised by dwarves. Yes, that's why I'm able to pick you up.
Speaker 4:I would have liked to. I was trying to stop him from leaving with spells, so I'm just going to grab him and pull him back.
Speaker 1:Can you grab him by the scruff of the neck again?
Speaker 4:I was going to grab him by the shirt. We're not done here.
Speaker 1:Go ahead and roll me a strength check, and I will give you advantage, because by saying we're not done here, thaddeus is inclined to listen partially. He still wants to get you a helmet, though.
Speaker 4:I rolled a nine.
Speaker 1:He continues to pull away.
Speaker 3:As I'm walking away, I'm like, come on, you guys are going to miss the celebration. We got to go and we got to get you guys helmets too, before they're all sold out.
Speaker 4:Hey, uh, thaddeus, wait a sec Before we go back to the festival. We still aren't done here, like I said, but could you tell us what happened when you first, what happened when we first got to your house?
Speaker 3:Sarah knocked on the door.
Speaker 4:And then after that.
Speaker 3:We waited a little bit.
Speaker 4:And did someone answer the door?
Speaker 3:Uh, yes.
Speaker 4:And what happened after? That?
Speaker 3:Oh, you mean when I got ripped in half?
Speaker 4:Yes.
Speaker 1:Thaddeus, I need you to roll me a wisdom save Nine. Thaddeus, I need you to roll me a d100 Thirty, Okay. Roll me a d6. One and two, three and 4, 5 and 6. We'll do separate things. 4, Okay, and now roll me a D10 5. Got it Shimmer upon getting Thaddeus to answer your questions. As soon as he finishes saying that he saw himself ripped in half, All of a sudden he stops moving and just breaks down On the floor. He saw himself ripped in half.
Speaker 1:All of a sudden he stops moving and just breaks down on the floor laughing, completely incapacitated, time to take the helmet, then, unable to stop laughing as you pull the helmet off of his head, he continues just full-on on solid belly laughing, that is he'll be laughing for five minutes.
Speaker 2:Does anyone have a silent spell? I think this is going to get annoying quickly.
Speaker 4:I'm afraid I don't have a silent spell. I expected him to freeze like he did earlier this morning.
Speaker 1:Shimmer, you now have the helmet. The lizard says quickly, quickly, bring it here.
Speaker 4:Bring it in here, I hand it over to the lizard.
Speaker 1:Yes, thank you. Thank you, I'm going to you watch as he unscrews the star in a jar and he pulls out the piece and he puts it in the helmet and then he takes both items and shoves them into the jar, like this should help keep it away for now, until I can look at it properly.
Speaker 4:Wait, actually, do you think if you let the saw of the jar out and make it do the anti-magic thing, it would deactivate them?
Speaker 2:That would very well be catastrophic, considering the amount of magic that exists within this city, although there are other things that an anti-magic sphere might stop, like many cult activities.
Speaker 1:True, an anti-magic pulse would stop many cult activities, but it would also stop any protections that we have that are currently being forced by individual spellcasters. A bunch of lights would go out.
Speaker 4:That's true.
Speaker 1:Who knows what kind of like what if there are preservation spells on food stores, who knows what kind of magic items might be ruined or let loose?
Speaker 4:So that would be a last resort idea then.
Speaker 1:That's dangerous. Having an anti-magic pulse like this inside the city is next to treason. I'm going to gag him. Right, so I'm going to take this helmet. We're going to investigate it more and I will get back with you guys as soon as I have more information. For now, I suggest you go home. You get a good night's sleep, because if these helms have been out all day, there's no telling what kind of things we'll run into tomorrow.
Speaker 4:Shiver will nod.
Speaker 1:This is Completely complicated things. Oh boy that is not good. You guys Sucked back into it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I'm real sorry about that. It wasn't my Intention, but here you are again, tied to the realm. I'm real sorry about that. It wasn't my intention, but here you are again, tied. Tied to the realm. Go home, get a good night's sleep. We'll get this sorted. If you guys so wish, you can head back to. You can find a place to stay in the castle in one of the guest chambers. You can head back to Thaddeus' house or any one of the inns along the way.
Speaker 2:Elise will attempt to turn Sarah back on roll me an arcana check. Thank you so much 13?
Speaker 1:good enough, you saw where Thaddeus pushed the button. You go ahead and push that button again and Sarah seems to power on.
Speaker 2:Now our robot bodyguard is back online.
Speaker 4:And the.
Speaker 2:I think we can leave him here for a moment while we go back to his place. As soon as I finish powering on there's like this slow, like you know, stand back up type thing and then, as soon as I power back on, I draw my rapier of wounding and point it directly at Thaddeus. He's now on the ground laughing hysterically.
Speaker 4:Yeah, okay. Yeah, he is not doing great and I'm gonna follow Elise out, assuming Elise is leaving him yeah.
Speaker 1:So, shimmer and Elise, you guys are headed back to Thaddeus' house, while he's incapacitated. Yep, alright. A couple of minutes after they leave Thaddeus, you stop laughing and sit back up.
Speaker 2:How are you feeling?
Speaker 3:Oh, I do not want to laugh again For the next three years Wow.
Speaker 1:Alright, so, shimmer Elise, you two have a head start. What are you doing?
Speaker 2:Hold on, how is he feeling? Is he still charmed?
Speaker 1:No, the helmet's not on his head.
Speaker 4:Okay, Of course we're keeping, and I assume we're keeping an eye out or Elise Shimmer is for any suspicious people or any people on the way to Thaddeus' place, Do you think?
Speaker 1:that somebody suspicious would attempt to steal from somebody dressed so nobly as they wander through different parts of the town late in the evening.
Speaker 4:Yes.
Speaker 1:I am shocked that you think so little of me.
Speaker 4:I am a woman as well. I am a fancy looking woman.
Speaker 2:Obviously I'm gonna yeah the implication is that Elise is not a fancy looking woman.
Speaker 1:This is a scary looking woman. Elise has that air about her.
Speaker 2:She's gonna mess you up if you fuck with her.
Speaker 1:So you guys make it to Thaddeus' house. What are you up to? What was the plan?
Speaker 2:I could go another three years without hearing Thaddeus laugh ever again Did he lock the door.
Speaker 1:Do we have keys? The door is open.
Speaker 4:Perfect, Wait is the door open actually physically open.
Speaker 1:Yeah, the door to Thaddeus' house is open.
Speaker 4:I am very suspicious suddenly. I suddenly casting invisibility on us again, like this is a repeat of when my, when we get to my house do you guys?
Speaker 1:you cast invisibility on you guys do you step in?
Speaker 2:I will be after I do that elise will step in first to make sure Shimmer doesn't get hurt.
Speaker 1:Mm-hmm, elise. You step into Thaddeus' house, the door wide open, it's dark-ish, the fading light of evening, and no torches have been lit. Roll me a perception, check Fifteen. You glance around around looking for anyone or anything out of place, but what you see sitting on the bed is a black and silver horned helm with the same face mask style of the one that you took off of oh no, yeah, that's on us. And that's where we're going to leave it today. Dun dun dun Yay.
Speaker 2:So cheery all of a sudden, and that's where we're going to leave off today.
Speaker 1:That's all for now, but when we return next episode, I'm sure that the Time Breakers will do all of the right checks and hit all of the right numbers to hit all of the right numbers to figure out what the heck is going on in reg 8 time breakers.
Speaker 1:Time breakers you can come join the discord link is in the description and help build the city from the inside. We're always keen to look out for information from you guys like things you like about us, things you don't like about us, information on npcs that you would like to see around more often, all sorts of cool stuff that you can tell us. You can leave a rating, leave a review and just let us know how you feel about it so far. Thanks for listening.
Speaker 4:Bye, thank you.
