Whispers in Wregate
WiW: NoTa Time Warp Debacle
What if the very fabric of time was something you could manipulate? Join us as we unravel the gripping tale of the time breakers—Thaddeus, Shimmer, and Sarah—who find themselves ensnared in a perilous labyrinth beneath Fregate. After a deadly clash with cultists, Thaddeus teeters on the brink of death, casting a shadow over their mission. Meanwhile, Elise stealthily observes the cultists' fervent attempts to reclaim their ritual chamber, caught in a delicate dance between participant and spy. With an ominous event looming just beyond the horizon, our protagonists must navigate these dark corridors, where every decision could alter their fate.
In a whirlwind of suspense, Dalton stumbles into the cultist chamber, injured and sounding the alarm of uncanny intruders. These aren't just any intruders—they mirror the cultists themselves, stirring suspicion of arcane interference. As tensions rise within the cultist ranks, alliances are tested, and a schism forms between Kaven's pious followers and Silverfang's call for immediate retaliation. In this volatile atmosphere, loyalties are questioned and strategic gambits are deployed, offering a window into the complex dynamics of this fractured group.
Amidst the chaos, an audacious plan takes shape as Thaddeus reaches out to Silverfang using a sending stone, igniting a chain of tactical maneuvers and high-stakes deception. The team musters all their ingenuity to lay an elaborate ambush, incorporating disguise and misdirection with the mysterious allure of a possibly cursed ring as a key component. As the narrative unfolds, every twist and turn of this thrilling escapade invites you to ponder the intricacies of fate and the thin line between success and catastrophe. Join us as we explore this captivating journey and invite you to contribute your theories and insights to our growing community.
Hello and welcome back. I'm Baron Battlebred, your guide to the streets and whispers of Fregate Gather round. You lost folk as we spiral back into the time, breakers trying to rewrite history and change their fates time breakers.
Speaker 1:Time time breakers when we last left off, uh, the time breakers had split up and were making their way back to rejoining each other. Thaddeus, shimmer and Sarah had made their way down the tunnel where they encountered two cultists coming up on top of them. And well, three different plans went off at the same time, which resulted in a fight and Thaddeus is near death. But combat ended. They are technically alive, even though one of the cultists escaped Thaddeus. Shimmer, sarah. What are you guys doing now that you are alone in the tunnel with the smoking husk?
Speaker 4:of a cultist, I can definitely use a bit of a rest.
Speaker 5:We should probably hide that corpse and find a place for us to hide while we rest.
Speaker 4:I agree.
Speaker 5:We still have that trash bag of holding right.
Speaker 4:Nope.
Speaker 5:I think Elise has it.
Speaker 6:Yeah, I was gonna say we can just shove his body into the trash bag of holding.
Speaker 5:We could shove the corpse into the sewer. I was gonna suggest shoving it into the broom closet.
Speaker 3:You could shove it into the broom closet.
Speaker 1:You could shove it into the broom closet. You also know that you passed several doors on the way down. As far as you have gotten, that could lead to other rooms or more broom closets.
Speaker 5:All three of us can't fit in this broom closet, but we might be able to fit in those rooms.
Speaker 4:Just out of curiosity, is this corpse still a lizard?
Speaker 1:No, well, let's say that you guys are going to take a moment and take a rest for yourselves, right? A short rest for your characters. That sounds agreeable, cool. Well, while you guys are solving that problem, we're going to jump over to Elise. Elise, you are currently at the end of the tunnel with the rest of the cultists and cave and slife, and you are standing in the uh, fairly large cavernous area where their old space used to be. As you walk into the large chamber. As you walk into the large chamber, kaven will wave his hand and you will see several braziers, set up in a formation around the room, come to light in a sparkling display of various colors of flame. One of them will jump up in green, one in blue, there's a bright yellow one, a dark red one, and they light up the space, their colors combining to keep everything you know visible.
Speaker 7:Just don't make ritual chambers like they used to.
Speaker 3:No, they don't, no, they don't. Indeed, it took us oh what was it? Almost four years to carve this out of the rock and to bring the furnishings in, chip away at the beautiful sigil on the floor there. It took all of one afternoon to summon that monster and to lose it all.
Speaker 1:He kicks the remains of a body that clearly got crushed into the ground. All right you you and you start cleaning up this space. We need to get back in tip-top shape.
Speaker 3:How long do we have, according to your seeing, the success visions?
Speaker 2:In-game. It's what? 108 hours left, something like that GM. What was the time frame? 108?
Speaker 1:Hours, yes, and then you've moved down. You've moved down the thing which took an hour, so you're at 106 Hours left After making it down the tunnel.
Speaker 7:The great power of Sirik will come upon us in 106 hours time.
Speaker 1:It is foretold 106 hours, that's like that's just over four days, that's not a lot of time.
Speaker 2:You've got a. You know a watch. It's an atomic clock. You know exact time frame.
Speaker 1:That's only just over four days. We've only got how many? It's only like six of us here. We're gonna have to. I'm gonna have to get more cultists yes, agreed, we need more hands.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I'm going to send uh, dalton luna you two head back up up there and go grab a few recruits. We need more hands on this if we're going to finish in time frame. And Dalton and Luna are going to walk off. So that leaves you Kaven, malachi, brissa and Kippy and they're going to start running around, you know, moving boxes, throwing bodies into the water, off the shelf of the thing. Uh, just absolute frenzy of of people just doing their jobs. Uh, caven is going to start cleaning things up, pulling, you know, like uh, the skeletons out of the, out of the manacles on the walls, uh, tossing them in the water as well, and uh probably takes, probably after the first two hours.
Speaker 1:After uh, dalton and luna go away uh, walk away. That you know. The place finally starts coming together again. They put up new banners on things to get things looking nice. They sweep off the dust layer that formed over the on the floor and it's starting to look like a fairly respectable evil cultist hideout. Before Kaven talks to you, the question that I have for you, Elise, as you are moving around in this thing, how secretive are you trying to keep yourself?
Speaker 2:In what sense? Because she's not going to say any more than she needs to.
Speaker 1:Right, you're not going to talk more than you need to, you're not going to move more than you need to, and you're not going to show off any skills that you don't need to. Exactly, are you standing there doing nothing, or are you aiding in the revival of this space?
Speaker 2:I'm betting that the Silver Fang would walk around the perimeter examining to make sure that the Altus Ar room right, or at least that's the impression she wants to give okay, what are you?
Speaker 1:if you're giving out the impression that you are keeping things inspected, as people are moving boxes and the remains of bodies and sweeping off the floor, making sure that, say, the ritual lines themselves haven't been messed with, or you know this pattern of candles is in the correct orientation what are you actually doing?
Speaker 2:Biting her time watching these cultists, sizing them up, hoping that there is something coming to help.
Speaker 1:Roll me a deception check.
Speaker 2:That's a 31 with a nat 20.
Speaker 1:Okay, yeah, we'll do that. Okay, yeah, uh, we'll do that, as, uh, this whole thing is going on. You, you've probably spent about two hours, uh, down here, right. All of a sudden you hear the running of footsteps uh, just loud and unorthodox and clomping as Dalton comes bursting back into the chamber from the tunnel side. He's hurt, he's bleeding, he's beat up a little bit and Luna is not with him. He's, he's holding on to one of his wounds as he comes into the chamber yelling just Intruders. They looked like us, they were not us, hey Moore.
Speaker 7:who are these intruders?
Speaker 1:There was a cleaning robot creature thing, silver metal they were sweeping the floor and his owner who was very clearly not supposed to be here. We were trying to lead him to the exit and all of a sudden we got hit in the back of the head. We turned to see who it was and the next thing, you know, the little robot jumped at us and then somebody swung a hammer. And then somebody my mind was taken over, a voice. I did not recognize.
Speaker 3:It was not Cyrix. We killed Luna. I believe we killed one of them and I managed to escape. Took up here to warn you.
Speaker 7:These figures. They sound familiar to me, me as the player. I'm taking a second to think of how to spin this. Yes, those damned mages from the academy.
Speaker 1:Kaven's gonna turn to you, mages.
Speaker 6:From the Academy.
Speaker 3:From the Academy. Are they part of your vision?
Speaker 7:They're not supposed to be, but I'm not the only one with the vision.
Speaker 1:So you have a vision of our success, but other people also have a vision of our success and are here to stop us. Would that not tell your vision if they are successful or not?
Speaker 7:I offer you a moment to ponder your thoughts deeply and within yourself.
Speaker 3:This is a good plan. I shall have to commune with my God.
Speaker 1:He's going to wander over to one of the recessed chambers, uh in the wall there, and step behind the tapestry and you see the light of a single candle start shining around the edges of it. Uh, kippy, brissa and malachi kind of surround dalton, uh offering him potions from the stores, you know, like trying to get more information out of him. Like yeah, it was a heavy little mechanical creature. I ended up throwing it at Luna. It hit up and then it fell on the ground and then a voice in my head telling me to attack. I had to attack it's crazy.
Speaker 6:Clearly it was his god.
Speaker 5:Obviously, like it has to be, Sirik, Like who else could it be?
Speaker 4:And clearly he's an imposter because he doesn't know how to pronounce Malakai.
Speaker 1:Don't start with that. Malakai, yeah, it's Malakai, it's Malakai, it's Malakai, it's Malakai, it's.
Speaker 6:Malakai, a run of Malachi.
Speaker 1:So all four of those people are currently working together. They're getting the story out of him. Luna turned into the lizard. They shot him with a bolt of lightning. He used one of their spell scrolls. What are you up to, Silverfang?
Speaker 7:I think we need to act now to stop these interlopers interrupting our ritual. I'll need two other bodies and I will slay them with my own hand.
Speaker 3:We will have to ask Kavin, but he is currently conforming with the gods. Do you really want to?
Speaker 7:disturb our grand leader while he communes with our lord.
Speaker 1:No, no, I do not want to Listen, I do not want to disturb him, but you just got here. He is the one who gives the orders, and we can't move until he tells us what to do, or until we are attacked directly. I suppose, as he did not give the order for us to attack those people there, we're just going to have to sit here and wait.
Speaker 7:Was it not my abilities that gave us our true ritual room? And you would sit here and defy me?
Speaker 2:Roll me a persuasion check Dang. I was hoping for another deception.
Speaker 1:Well you're not lying, you did do things.
Speaker 2:Uh, no, she didn't. What do you mean? She did not kill them, the sailors did.
Speaker 5:No, the pirates killed the uh, the beast she was on her way out of there. She just ran away.
Speaker 6:She tried to get the fuck out of there with all the jewels and stuff.
Speaker 1:But you already passed that deception check. You passed that deception check first. As far as they're concerned, you're not lying, Alright we're gonna risk it.
Speaker 2:Risk it for the biscuit.
Speaker 3:That's not bad oh, that's, that's pretty good, that's pretty good.
Speaker 1:Um, dalton and malachi are are still not quite convinced, right? Um, you would believe that they have been here the longest, uh, and are sworn to cave in, whereas Kippy and Brisa are looking at you like, yeah, I mean, I guess you did, you. You did bring us back here and there. We've been throwing things in the water for a couple of hours now and no monster has come out to attack us, so you've got a good head on your shoulders. I wouldn't be. Yeah, yeah, dalton, you said you weakened him, right? Yes, yes, I did. We did some serious damage to at least two of them.
Speaker 5:As far as they're concerned, there was only two of them, and one was dead.
Speaker 1:Well, he does know. He got hit in the back of the head and someone took control of his mind oh yeah, he never saw me. He doesn't know what you look like but he knows, someone controlled his mind. It's like yes, they are definitely weakened. Myself, unfortunately, was also weakened. Was unable to take all of them at the same time. They are definitely weakened. I myself, unfortunately, was also weakened.
Speaker 3:I was unable to take all of them at the same time.
Speaker 1:I made my escape to give you warning, kippy and Brissa if you decide to move Silverfang, they will follow you out. Dalton and Malachi are going to go, stand, stand, essentially guard by Kaven's little alcove as he's doing his communion.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's the plan.
Speaker 1:Okay, dalton and Malachi will stand there as they are, as they are nursing Dalton's wounds, and they'll be like as they are nursing Dalton's wounds, and they'll be like we will stand here and let Kaven know of your departure whenever he is finished. We may even be able, he may even think to come to join you, and we shall see what happens, godspeed.
Speaker 3:Hail Sirik, hail Sirik.
Speaker 1:All right, silverfang, you head out the door with Kippy and Brissa behind you. The other three you guys have taken a short rest. It has been about an hour since the end of your fight and the other guy escaped. You find yourselves in a small storage space. There are only a couple of crates in here, but you know it's good enough, having been able to open one of the doors on the offshoot of the tunnel. What would you like to do now?
Speaker 4:Were we able to hide the body in the storage room?
Speaker 3:I will say yes or in the room closet.
Speaker 5:Earlier room closet door. I will say yes, earlier broom closet door.
Speaker 1:I will say yes, the body is hidden.
Speaker 4:What I would like to do is I would like to take the cultist robes of this body and put them on Sarah.
Speaker 1:Okay, surprisingly, they are fairly undamaged, as most of the attacks occurred while they were a lizard. So, other than you know a couple of abrasion-ish areas where they hit the stone floor, the robes are in fairly good shape. Now, sarah, you have cultist robes.
Speaker 6:Nice.
Speaker 1:Sarah, you have cultist robes, nice. So I believe that means Shimmer and Sarah both have a cultist robe, and Stadius is still wearing a red shirt.
Speaker 4:Well, you know it Okay.
Speaker 5:Question Mav.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 5:Is the Silver Fang gonna use the sending stone to give us any sort of coded message at all?
Speaker 2:I don't. I think that would give it a way. I'm more going to my plan. My intention was to quote-unquote, confront the intruders, meanwhile telepathically communicating, giving kind of a jump start. You know like he'll start with like get on your knees and bow before, sirik, who are you imposters?
Speaker 5:Do you have any sort of dark visions?
Speaker 2:Just the moon-touched rapier, which is, by the way, britta. She's gonna pull out her moon-touched rapier on the walk.
Speaker 1:Got it.
Speaker 5:I'm the only one with dark vision on this team. Wait this, sarah, have dark vision yeah, there is dark vision at least two of us have dark vision. Thaddeus is walking in the dark, we are. Are we continuing or are we continuing notice.
Speaker 6:So as soon as we get that notice, it's gonna be fight time because of the range of telepathy. So are we going to be a pretty short notice. So as soon as we get that notice, it's going to be fight time.
Speaker 5:Because of the range of telepathy. So are we going to stay in the storage room and make a plan, or are we going to just leave and continue onward?
Speaker 4:I got an idea. It's an insane, batshit, crazy idea, but I have an idea. I'm going to pull out the ascending stone and I'm going to concentrate on Elise, aka Silverfang, and I'm going to say Silverfang, silverfang, we have taken out two. You know people.
Speaker 1:Okay, so the question that I have is how does Thaddeus know to tell Silverfang what's going on?
Speaker 4:Uh, he doesn't, but he's kind of in a mode where he's just like uh, you know, just reporting because this is all new to him and he just figured that's what one does.
Speaker 1:Uh, yeah, I'll allow it. Uh, silver Fang, are you leading uh, kippy and Brisa, or are you like like behind them?
Speaker 2:Yeah, I imagine she's leading Kind of a show of confidence. Worst case scenario she leads them astray. Best case scenario she runs into her friends.
Speaker 1:All right, you move down the hallway and you get a message from your sending stone, a frantic voice of Thaddeus, saying that they managed to take out two people.
Speaker 2:She will answer in 25 words or less. We are cutting to 12.
Speaker 5:We are cutting out again.
Speaker 4:No, no, leave that in because, honestly, remember one of the flaws with the sending stones that I said doesn't work too well through thick walls. It makes perfect sense now. It's perfect.
Speaker 1:We'll keep that in, okay. It makes perfect sense now. It's perfect. We'll keep that in, okay. So, thaddeus, you get a message back from the silver fang. He's leading cultists.
Speaker 4:Your way, at least, I think that's what he said like garbled a little bit alright, so we need to prepare.
Speaker 5:I use the long rest to re-attune to Wand of Entangle.
Speaker 7:Okay.
Speaker 5:So I have that and I don't think we have anything that we can do. It's like a trap. I guess we kind of step out and I guess start heading down the corridor and wait.
Speaker 1:Yeah, uh, you can, um, you can find other rooms if you want to create, like, uh, an ambush zone, uh, but there's nothing stopping you from attempting to make traps, if you can think of one. I mean, thaddeus once put a rope across the walkway.
Speaker 5:I mean Thaddeus once put a rope across the walkway. I think I want ambush location to be similar to last place, where we can hide in a door in different rooms. If we could find a place with multiple rooms, that'd be great.
Speaker 1:Um, yes, there is. You do remember seeing an area that has five doors that are close together, two on the left side of the tunnel and three on the right side, that you could use as an ambush spot.
Speaker 5:And I guess we could try to set up like some form of trap there.
Speaker 4:The only thing that I've got for trap is just setting out rope again.
Speaker 5:Traps really aren't Shimmer's thing. Her thing is talking, but like it's an area with lots of rooms we can hide and duck in them and hide. But also they can duck in and hide. Actually that's also bad.
Speaker 3:That's true. That could be bad.
Speaker 5:Maybe a place with less doors, maybe two doors.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 5:Or we can do it like doors that we know are good, that we have a little mark for that. We then tell Elise which doors are the good ones, so she can use those, but then the ones that we are that are bad if they try to duck into them they get hurt okay like maybe barbed wire as you move further down the hallway looking for an ambush spot, silverfang, kippy and Brissa are also coming towards you.
Speaker 1:So the further down the the further down the tunnel you move, the less time you will have to prepare. Roll me a perception or investigation check. If you would like to find a space with fewer rooms, close together 21.
Speaker 5:Perception.
Speaker 1:Amazing. You come down the hallway and, after only a few minutes of walking, this space has three rooms Two on the left, one on the right. All the doors appear to be open.
Speaker 4:There's even a sign above the hallway that just says uh, extra space rooms.
Speaker 1:Perfect ambush zone.
Speaker 6:Very subtle sign, very subtle I'm gonna examine what's.
Speaker 5:I'm gonna examine and see if there's anything of interest in the rooms.
Speaker 1:As you test each door, they all appear to be unlocked. You have a 21 perception, so you'll be able to poke your head in and not you know, you don't, you don't, won't have to roll anything else. The first one that you poke your head into is the first door on the left, and it is another storage space. You poke your head in the door on the right side of the tunnel, just across the way from it, and you find a skeleton inside, a moving one that turns towards you.
Speaker 5:Oh, that's irritating. I'm going to close that door.
Speaker 1:And you hear a slight rattling behind it and you poke your head in the second door on the right side and it is completely empty and no boxes, no brooms, no bodies.
Speaker 5:That's suspicious.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, that's the suspicious room and not the one with the skeleton in it.
Speaker 4:Well, no, because we're in the shoes.
Speaker 1:And their closet. Okay, I would say that, with the time that it took to deliver the message, to do the thing, to do the thing, for Dalton to go, to come back, for all of this, to add up, there is a 30-minute wait.
Speaker 5:I'm going to send a message to Silverfang telling her where we are and which door has a skeleton in it.
Speaker 1:Okay, Silverfang, you will receive a message from Shimmer Shimmer. What do you tell them?
Speaker 5:We are in down hallway in this claw area with three doors In this room. We are in this claw area with three doors in this room. We are in this room. That door has a skeleton in it. That's basically what I'm saying. Someone actually put it into words.
Speaker 1:Nah, I'll just accept that as what it is. Silverfang, you get the message that they are hiding in an area where there are three doors two on the left well, two on your right, one on the left, since you are coming towards them and the one on the left has a skeleton in it.
Speaker 2:So Silverfang is going to pretend to receive a vision, okay, and she's going to claim that our foes are using necromancies to rise skeletons against us. Are they at the door or is that like farther away from the three of us?
Speaker 1:It is just down the tunnel. Everybody has been moving closer together as this all has been going on, so you're still just. You're a short distance away. Based on the description that shimmer sends you, you would remember the perfect ambush spot sign.
Speaker 2:Uh, being further down the tunnel so she's, she's going to head towards that perfect ambush spot, uh, leading these two altists in that direction okay now, uh, you did just claim to have a vision and you did let Kippy and Brissa know.
Speaker 1:I will need a religion or deception check from you to really sell the 15.
Speaker 2:A four on the back 15 is yeah 15 is still really good.
Speaker 1:That's still very good, jeez. But yeah, they're like oh, necromancers, even Syracate's necromancers, bastards Disrupting the natural order of things. When you're dead, you should stay dead and Brisa will pull out like a short sword and be like we'll get him With Sarah Shimmer and Thaddeus. Are any of you like peeking your head, you know? Are you like opening the door a crack to look down the hallway? You?
Speaker 5:know. I imagine we left the door open a crack, so we'd know.
Speaker 4:Okay, I can't see anything, since I don't have darkvision, so it doesn't really matter for me.
Speaker 1:Funnily enough, thaddeus, that would make you the best person for this particular instance, as Elise the silver fang is holding a moon-touched rapier and coming down a long dark hallway.
Speaker 4:But I didn't hear that Elise had a moon-touched rapier, so down a long dark hallway, but I didn't hear that at least had a moon touched rapier, so I don't know.
Speaker 1:You know that your friend carries a sword, that close.
Speaker 4:I know that they carry that, but I don't know if they're actually using it right now she invented it earlier they always use it.
Speaker 1:I'm going to who wants to roll. Who wants to roll to the perception check? I'll do it and, based on the way that this scenario is going to work, I Will even give you your advantage, thaddeus, as you are not having to worry about any other spectrums except for a light at the end of the tunnel.
Speaker 4:And it's gonna be a 14.
Speaker 1:Nice, thaddeus. You see the light at the end of the tunnel. That's going to be a 14. Nice, thaddeus, you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Roll me a wisdom save. That's going to be a 17. Damn, I mean. Good job, thaddeus, suck it. You can see your friend. You see a light moving towards you that you know to be the moonlight coming off of Elise's rapier. Do you alert your friends?
Speaker 4:I do, but in the form of the sending stone.
Speaker 1:Are you calling Elise?
Speaker 4:Well, I'm you know what I'm just gonna whisper to Shimmer. I see them coming.
Speaker 5:Cool Shimmer's gonna nod forgetting that you can't see.
Speaker 1:Shimmer peeks her head out. You can also see the light at this point, as everyone has been, as they've been moving forward during this whole thing. You see them just down the end of the hallway they're probably 50 feet away at this point and you're watching, and you're watching they move. Elise, at this point, you can see the perfect ambush spot sign. You see the door on your right that you know contains a skeleton and the two doors on your left that you know, one of which contains your friends. What would you like to do?
Speaker 2:Point to the room with the skeleton.
Speaker 7:The dark necromancers have summoned skeletons within store here we must destroy it.
Speaker 1:Okay, are you moving over to it or are you directing Kippy or Brissa?
Speaker 2:Yeah, she's going to be directing the two cultists towards the door.
Speaker 1:Okay, you want to direct both of them towards the door? Yes, okay, you want to direct both of them towards the door. Yes, okay. So you do your, you know, you do your little performance thing and you gesture towards the door and Kippy and Brissa are going to walk over to it. Brissa has their short sword out already and you see a mote of fire appear in their free hand and they're going to nod at Kippy. Kippy is going to throw the door open and you watch as Brissa launches a flame of fire into the room.
Speaker 6:A flame of fire that is what fire is, yeah also. Can you please re-describe that is what fire is?
Speaker 4:yeah also also uh, can you please, uh re-describe that as a bolt of fire in her hand, because you said a moat of fire yes, it would be a moat of fire.
Speaker 1:The moat would be the, the flame, before it becomes something oh okay, the more you know. Yeah, it's basically like a small mound in her hand, just a flame.
Speaker 5:Please push the one who's not throwing the fire into the fire.
Speaker 1:Right, so Brissa is the one throwing the fire and they shoot it. They're going to launch it into the room. For a few seconds At least you would watch this, I guess the two of you peeking your head out the door, you also see this happen. And then Brisa is going to yell and charge in as Kippy shuts the door behind them and they're going in to fight the skeleton. As Kippy shuts the door behind them and they're going in to fight the skeleton. As Kippy closes the door, you can hear the clashing of metal on metal as their short sword glances off whatever is left of the armor that the skeleton is currently wearing, and you can hear the sounds of a battle raging inside the room.
Speaker 6:That's fucking hilarious.
Speaker 1:It is now Elise. Yeah, kippy, just shut the door on him, like not my circus, not my monkeys. So yeah, elise, the rest of you guys you see that it's just your friend, the Silver Fang and Kippy standing outside this room. Kippy's back is to the door, holding it shut.
Speaker 5:I would like to in Kippy's voice. Who's the one inside fighting the skeleton?
Speaker 1:Brissa. They're also the one who yelled.
Speaker 5:So I heard their voice. Yes, I would like to imitate their voice to cast Vicious Mockery and call the one standing outside a coward.
Speaker 1:Before you cast the spell, before I have to make a save, roll me a performance check. Do you have the actor? Feat.
Speaker 5:I do. Oh, never mind and I'm also a changeling never mind, never mind, never mind.
Speaker 1:You are, you are solid. I have to make a wisdom save.
Speaker 6:I believe yes get walks out there as her friend, as the friend, if you like. What the fuck are you doing?
Speaker 5:get in there, you coward no, no, I'm just like I. I'm just going to be like coward yeah can I do it?
Speaker 1:cast vicious mockery at with message okay, so in this moment they rolled a 5 on their Wisdom save. So regardless of what happens. They have no idea where that voice came from, but they know they took 4 damage, Like just you wounded their soul.
Speaker 5:And also they have disadvantage on their next attack roll but like okay they're trying to call them a coward at least you're going to hear.
Speaker 1:You're going to hear kippy, whose back is currently holding the door. Shut go, coward. You told me to do this.
Speaker 5:I'm gonna curse it again and be like what are you weak?
Speaker 1:Well, normally I would agree with you, but at this point Akipi is very upset and they rolled very low on their wisdom save. So, having been called a coward, and knowing that Brissa told them to do this, they are going to throw open the door to confront their friend, and suddenly the sounds of fighting get louder, as Brissa and this skeleton are exchanging blows. Kippy is going to step inside the room and you're going to hear a voice shouting what did you call me a coward? For? You told me to hold the door shut until you dealt with the creature, and then you're going to hear bris's voice go, I don't what I did. I do have time for this, do you not? Whoa see the swords swinging at me, and then they're going to have their own argument. So, elise, you're currently standing in an empty hallway, can she see?
Speaker 2:inside of this room. Which room?
Speaker 1:The room with the skeletons, the skeleton and the two crickets you did momentarily until Kippy shut the door again, because it's Kippy's job to hold the door shut until the monster is defeated, did she?
Speaker 2:see any other doors, in or out. No, okay, she's going to lock the door. Find some way to barricade it. Lock it, um, okay.
Speaker 1:Uh, roll me slide of hand to block.
Speaker 2:Pick the door Nat 20 for 28.
Speaker 1:Jesus Christ, I mean, uh, yeah, no, yeah, the door is. You've locked the door. You still hear the fighting inside. They did not hear you over the sound of clashing metals. You guys watch as Elise walked over and locked the two cultists in a room with a skeleton.
Speaker 5:Shiver's gonna step out and be like well, that worked great.
Speaker 4:Hey Bread, does that door swing open or does it swing inward? It swings outward, it swings outward. I am going to walk out, grab one of my pitons and basically wedge it underneath the door. So even if they manage to unlock it, they're still not getting that thing open without some considerable force.
Speaker 1:Okay, yeah, elise, you lock the door, shimmer steps out and says hi, thaddeus walks over and hammers a peaton into the bottom of the door. And you still hear the sound of fighting inside. By the way, the muffled voices in arguments like you called me a coward. No, I didn't. How could I? I'm in here fighting a skeleton. But I heard you. I knew me. Holding the door was gonna make me look weak, but you told me to do it anyway. I should be in here. And they're just they're. They're going at each other. There's this fight in each other's throats, okay.
Speaker 4:Okay, yeah. So I turn to Elise and I whisper all right, let's get going.
Speaker 2:She nods, and they continue walking until they're out of earshot.
Speaker 6:Okay, so we're just leaving them there. Yep, yep, okay.
Speaker 5:Should we? Are we leaving the sewers completely so we can get like a long rest before coming back to deal with them? Because I would like my bard spell slots back as well as my warlock spells, because I only have four total bard spell slots back.
Speaker 2:I think part of the problem there is that there will be. They'll be more prepared for us if we don't show up.
Speaker 5:But we'd be more prepared for them as well. But not really. Thaddeus is still half dead, I think.
Speaker 4:I've got some health on me.
Speaker 1:He used all of his hit dice. He's back to like 90%.
Speaker 2:Do we have any way to make Thaddeus look like another cultist?
Speaker 4:I believe Shimmer is really good at disguising people disguising other people.
Speaker 5:I think I have a disguise kit actually oh yeah, I did, and I do have a disguise kit. How about I make myself look like one of those people that came with him and him look like the other? Yes, and then there's just a random third that is now. Wait, we need to do something about Sarah.
Speaker 2:Sarah's the prisoner.
Speaker 6:I'm already disguised as a cultist. Yeah, but you're.
Speaker 5:They know you.
Speaker 2:Sarah's the prisoner.
Speaker 5:So we need to take that robe. So we're gonna go to a different storage room nowhere near the perfect ambush spot and work on disguising Thaddeus.
Speaker 4:But not that empty room.
Speaker 5:Yeah, not the empty room, but that is near the perfect ambush spot.
Speaker 1:So Is everybody afraid of an empty room?
Speaker 4:It's evil. Hey, uh, Brad, can I investigate the walls? Yeah, roll an investigation check, Should I? Uh, how about rolling for Arcana to check for magic?
Speaker 1:Yeah, okay.
Speaker 5:I will also roll investigation for the walls. Hey, that 20. I rolled a 22 total. That 20 would investigate the walls.
Speaker 4:I got a 15.
Speaker 1:Okay, thaddeus, as you're walking down the wall, as you guys are having this conversation, you detect some form of magic on the wall. Shimmer comes over to help you investigate and you guys find a small. You guys find that the wall, in that space is hidden with an illusion spell. You stick your hand inside and you can feel. And that space is hidden with an illusion spell. You stick your hand inside and you can feel a leather bound something.
Speaker 4:I would like to grab the leather bound something and pull it out.
Speaker 1:Okay, you are currently holding three small vials.
Speaker 4:In a leather pouch-like contraption. Okay, can I do a medicine check to see what they are?
Speaker 5:Sure Can I use my nat 20 to know what they are?
Speaker 1:Investigation With a seven on a medicine check, you don't recognize any of these as a potion of healing?
Speaker 4:Huh, I don't think any of these are a potion of healing If you would like Shimmer to roll Arcana.
Speaker 5:That is a four.
Speaker 1:You don't recognize any of these potions either. I mean, I wasn't gonna roll Arcana if I didn't say four. You don't recognize any of these potions either.
Speaker 5:I mean, I wasn't going to roll Arcana if I were to choose my own roll.
Speaker 1:What would you roll?
Speaker 5:I mean I probably would have gone with well Investigation again. Probably I would have preferred to do Medicine myself or Survival.
Speaker 1:Let's see how does one? Oh, alternatively, the character can focus. Potions are an exception. You can simply take a small taste to tell what the potion does without having to. You can just taste it and know what it does.
Speaker 6:Well, I'm not doing that. It poisons you a little bit.
Speaker 4:Okay, okay, yeah, how I'll test the potions then.
Speaker 1:Yeah, okay, interesting. You test the first potion. You test the first potion and you find that you have a potion of lightning resistance.
Speaker 5:Well, that would have been nicely at last episode.
Speaker 1:Well, you didn't check the walls. And then your second potion. You have a potion of mind reading, a dense purple liquid with a cloud of pink floating in it. And the third one is an orange liquid with smoke filling the top of the container, a potion of fire breath.
Speaker 4:Okay, these are definitely going to come in handy. We have a potion of lightning resistance, which would have been helpful, a potion of mind reading and a potion of fire breath.
Speaker 1:As you finish investigating the bag. As you finish investigating the bag, you also notice that there is a skeletalized finger wrapped around the strap of the case with a large gold ring on it.
Speaker 4:Yeah, I'm just going to take that gold ring and put it back.
Speaker 1:You're going to put the finger and the ring back, like in the wall.
Speaker 4:Yeah, okay, before Lee sees it finger and the ring back like in the wall. Yeah okay, I do, I do, or at least sees it yeah, what is this?
Speaker 2:what does the ring look like? And does at least see it?
Speaker 1:at least at least, at least, at least sees that you guys grabbed potions because you are telling them that you have that you did grabbed potions because you are telling them that you have that you did find potions in the wall. Go ahead and give me a. Actually, what's your passive perception? At least 15. That's pretty good.
Speaker 2:Did you say what the ring does, or do we know what the ring does?
Speaker 1:Nope, it's a large gold ring that hasn't been dealt with yet.
Speaker 4:Considering that it's a gold ring on the end of a skeleton finger next to these potions, it makes me a little bit leery.
Speaker 1:Mm-hmm. I would say with a 15 that, yes, you do watch as Thaddeus pulls the skeletalized finger off of the strap. You see the glint of the gold in the in the light of your rapier and you watch as he puts it back in the wall well, even if it's cursed, it can still be worth some gold.
Speaker 7:We'll hold on to it for safekeeping.
Speaker 2:Okay, good luck with that she, she grabs this possibly cursed ring and puts it into a loose pocket.
Speaker 1:Yeah, easy enough. You pull it out. It is surprisingly heavy or feels much heavier than it should with a ring that size. You put it in your pocket with your other bits and bobbles. Okay, is there anything else that you guys would like to do in this? Like I want to be clear on the plan before we end today's session.
Speaker 4:We're not even clear on the plan.
Speaker 1:That's what I would like to be.
Speaker 5:The plan is to go into and find another random storage closet and disguise you as cultist number closet and disguise you as cultist number one and disguise me as cultist number two, whom we locked in a closet with a skeleton.
Speaker 1:Whom they were fighting in hand to hand.
Speaker 5:They were fighting the skeleton while arguing about being called a coward.
Speaker 2:Yeah, best case scenario for them the skeleton kills them. Worst case scenario for them the skeleton kills them. Worst case scenario for them is they starve to death.
Speaker 5:Yep, wow, that's a.
Speaker 4:No, technically, only one of them would starve to death.
Speaker 5:Yeah, because they'd kill each other.
Speaker 2:I guess best Second best case scenario for them is they go out in a suicide pack or something. I don't know. They're just like well, we're not making it out of here.
Speaker 6:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Okay, so you're going to find the next storage room, you're going to make disguises and you're going to We'll be, continuing down? Yeah, but the question is are you planning on taking your long rest while this is all happening, or are you ignoring the rest, going to disguises and going straight back to the lair?
Speaker 4:Well, the way I figure it is, we could technically take a long rest and if I'm going to be disguised as one of the cultists and Shimmer's going to be the other cultist, we can explain that. The battle against the Whatever Elise said you know because.
Speaker 6:I don't know what Elise said, I just know that they came down the hallway and the battle against the intruders took a whole day and a whole night. We showed up hella late.
Speaker 2:Eight hours later.
Speaker 1:That is up to you guys.
Speaker 4:I mean I'll ask Elise, Elise, would they buy that? I?
Speaker 7:doubt it.
Speaker 5:Wait, we could disguise ourselves as them, but also be like beat up, but make ourselves look like we've been beaten up and then excuse ourselves for a nap. Yeah, excuse ourselves. Like we absolutely need to rest after all of this and then to go take our long rest.
Speaker 6:Take our long rest there there.
Speaker 4:Well, yeah, and the thing is, I suppose Elise can spin it in such a way that you know her vision of how everything succeeded. All the occultists needed to be 100% elf, or whatever it is that she'll do to spin it?
Speaker 5:I don't know. We cannot use Sarah, as she's our prisoner. We would need to keep her out of sight. We need her to be gone, basically.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 5:So we need her, basically, we need her hidden somewhere out of the cultist's cult site. So basically, she needs to be hidden in a broom closet, somewhere.
Speaker 6:With a stone of simping, naturally.
Speaker 5:Yeah, naturally.
Speaker 4:So yeah, we're gonna do that.
Speaker 1:Okay, so I just so that I am clear on what the plan is you're going to disguise yourselves. You're going to make your way back to the cultist lair. You're going to convince at well, likely just the two individuals because it has not been very long Craven is probably still communing that you two are going, that you three, I suppose, are going to go take a rest, because the battle was a little harder than you thought. You are going to get your long rest in, and then you are going to get your long rest in, and then you are going to do what you have to do to handle the cultists. Next.
Speaker 4:Yes, that sounds like a perfectly logical plan where nothing can go wrong.
Speaker 2:Absolutely Nothing can go wrong.
Speaker 1:Okay, Because we are coming up to the end of the episode and I figure we have this is a good enough plan that I will let one role be the deciding factor on if that works or if we come into the next episode. In combat, who is going to make the deception check?
Speaker 5:I'll do it. I'm not 20. 33. Jesus.
Speaker 1:Christ. A 33? A 33? Yeah, your plan works flawlessly. Daltun and Malachi, they look at you. They see that you're beat up. They're like no, absolutely like. He craven is still. I can't believe that you handled them so well, like they were. They were such a match for me and it's like wow, good job, go take a nap, well deserved rest. Good job, we'll see you guys. You know, when you wake up that's gonna be all for now, but when we return next episode, we get to see how this plan concludes, now that they get to take a nap in the lair of the cultists fucking the most.
Speaker 4:I took a nap.
Speaker 1:It was a very good nap yeah, I guess you guys, you guys will get to have your long rest in their lair.
