The Edge of Everyday with Sandra Bargman

Art, Activism, + The Gay Voice with Everett Quinton

Sandra Bargman Episode 22

Today’s episode was recorded in December of 2021 and it is a passionate conversation I had with friend and colleague, Everett Quinton, a versatile mainstay of the downtown theater scene in New York as an actor, director and, for a decade, leader of the Ridiculous Theatrical Company.

I met Everett in 2004, working together in the Madison Square Garden National Tour of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. In our conversation we reminisced about our time together in that show, he told stories about meeting Charles Ludlum, about becoming a member of The Ridiculous Theatre Company and embracing his distinctive social justice edge.

In this episode, we touch on...

  • his early childhood, realizing he had aspirations, + how he met Charles Ludlum and joined The Ridiculous Theatrical Co.
  • the history of the RTC and his discovery of drag + the genre of queer experimental theatre.
  • taking over the reins of the RTC in 1987 as artistic director.
  • his social justice streak + using his art to combat racism.
  • All this and so much more...

Everett Quinton, the award-winning actor, director, designer, playwright, and downtown legend sadly passed away in January of 2023. I share this episode again in celebration of his extraordinary life, his immense accomplishments, and for my gratitude for his friendship.
