Welcome to the Fantasy Football Archivers Podcast with your host, zach Waldron, and John Miller, aka J Mill.
Speaker 3:Hello and welcome to Season 2, episode 4 of the Fantasy Football Archivers. My name is Zach Waldron, with your co-host, john Miller, aka J Mill. Hey, hey, and on today's episode we are going to be looking into the 2022 season for tight ends ADP versus top 10 finishes for tight ends ADP versus top 10 finishes. To jump right in, we're going to look at the ADP for the single quarterback. At number one, travis Kelsey at 13.6. Number two, mark Andrews at 24.7. Number three, kyle Pitts at 32.9. Number four, george Kittle at 36.7. Number five, darren Waller at 41.9. Number six, dalton Schultz at 54.2. Number seven, tj Hawkinson at 66.8. Number eight, dallas Goddard 72. Number nine, dawson Knox at 83.8. And number 10, Zach Ertz at 86.4.
Speaker 3:Then over to Superflex. Number one was Travis Kelsey at 16.9. Mark Andrews at 24.2. Kyle Pitts at 34.1. George Kittle at 45.3. Darren Waller at 51.2. Dalton Schultz at 62.1. 74.7,. Dallas Goddard at 81.5, zach Ertz at 89.8, and then Dawson Knox at 94.3. J-mill, do you really see a big change in the ADP for tight ends? Because the only thing I see is just Zach Ertz and Dawson Knox change, I think that was the only thing I noticed.
Speaker 3:All right. So before I get into the top 10 finishes, can you guess the top 10 finishes J-Mill for the 2022 season for tight ends. All right.
Speaker 1:So this is after Mark Andrews huge year, because I remember Mark Andrews said the same huge year as Cooper Cup and TJ Watt and we already covered that Cooper Cup was injured this year. I don't think Mark Andrews was injured for a long time this year, but I think he missed some games. So that definitely means that if you can't remember which tight end had the big big season, it's always safe to put Travis Kelski as number one, because there's a good chance and I don't remember any tight end having a season that just kind of was crazy, crazy this year, except for, probably, travis Kelsey. Kelsey probably had a crazy, crazy season this year. So I'm going to go with Kelsey at one. I think that a couple games missed. This is, and, uh, you pointed this out to me before, uh, before the show, but uh, tj Hawkinson is a Viking this year and I was like no, he was a lion this year. And then we looked it up off screen and it was kind of like, oh, he played eight games with Veach. So I'm thinking that Hawk is high. But I think I still want to go with Mark Andrews at number two because I think there's a chance that Mark Andrews, like her game production probably was still high enough.
Speaker 1:Can you help me out with how many games Kittle played? Do you know how many games Kittle played this year? George Kittle played 15 games. So Kittle's in the top five. Kittle playing 15 games. So the top five is I'm going to go with Kelsey Andrews, hawkinson, kittle Beyond that let's see.
Speaker 1:And Dalton Schultz yeah, because Cowboy tight ends always get the targets. And I think Darren Waller started to step back a little, but he had some monster games this year. I feel like I remember him starting off the season with some sort of weird, crazy 17-18 target game. So I think Waller is still in the top 10. Uh, it's, it's always safe to just pick ninjoku. So I don't know how many games ninjoku played, but I don't remember ninjoku having a season where he was out for too much time. Maybe there was a seat. Can I get a? Can I get a game check on how many games ninjoku had had? David knew Joku played 14 games. Yeah, probably creeps into the top 10 with that 14. Okay, okay, in Cubs absence, I remember Higby having an amazing year for at least half the year. So I'm gonna put Higby in the top 10, okay, and then really, when it comes down to it. Wow, uh, this is the first year Zach Hertz is out of Philly is, he's in Arizona.
Speaker 1:Okay, so I think Goddard's top 10. And if I'm correct, this is Trey McBride's rookie season. So I think that McBride and Ertz both hurt each other a little, because I think McBride came on a little bit late. I remember Kyle Pitts was very underwhelming and had the injury this year, so I know he's not in the top 10 anymore. Uh, how many did I? How many have I guessed? Let's see, I put waller and waller higby. My top five is, uh, kelsey andrews, hawkinson, kittle. I'm gonna put higby at five and then put schultz. Uh, put schultz, goddard and Njoku in the somewhere in there.
Speaker 1:Okay, so far that's eight, so I got two more to go. Wow, you got any clues for me, any hints or anything?
Speaker 3:So one player that is in the top ten. I don't like how fantasy football ranks him in the top ten, all because he is listed as a tight end, but he didn't play tight end really this year.
Speaker 1:Oh, he did. He kick, returned and played some quarterback, right, yes, and that's tason hill. I would never have guessed that without that clue. Did you taste some hill at top? I mean, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. It tastes a bit. He'll be in the top 10. I'm sure has happened a few times, so it doesn't really feel like it belongs there. All right, so this is before Dalton Kincaid and Stefan Diggs had a big season. Let's just randomly go with Dawson Knox to round up my top ten.
Speaker 3:Okay, so you're missing two players, but before I get to that, let me give you the top ten. Okay, the top ten finishes for the 2022 season for tight ends was Travis Kelsey at number one. Okay, tj Hawkinson at number two.
Speaker 1:George Kittle at number three oh so did Andrews not do?
Speaker 3:well Mark Andrews at number four, oh, okay. Number five was Evan Ingram. Was he with the Giants or the Jaguars? Here he was with the Jaguars, okay. Number six was Tyler Higbee. Okay, I got Higbee. Number seven was Pat Friermuth. Oh, no, pat Friermuth.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 3:Was never going there. Number eight was Cole Clement. Oh, okay, number nine, tayson Hill. Then number ten was Dalton Schultz.
Speaker 1:Dalton Schultz fell that far. Yes, A little surprise, so I missed on Njoku, Goddard and Knox.
Speaker 3:Yes, okay. So travis kelsey, we already know he was goddard healthy the whole season. No, he was not. I should have asked you that dallas. Goddard only played 12 games. Uh, okay, that's why, all right, he still almost finished in the top 10, though is. Is goddard ever healthy a full season? No, does he still put up some decent numbers?
Speaker 1:yes, when he plays he puts up decent numbers, but he doesn't stay healthy enough. Okay, there we go.
Speaker 3:So travis kelsey, we we just know he's.
Speaker 1:He went off this year and, by the way, this is a you know BTS Travis Kelsey before Taylor Swift.
Speaker 3:Yes, he is 2022 season. He just went off. He was over a hundred, a hundred catches, over a thousand yards and double digit touchdowns.
Speaker 1:This is what he was still making friendship bracelets and trying to meet her.
Speaker 3:Yes, you can say that Travis Kelsey to meet her. Yes, you could say that Travis Kelsey. And then at number two with TJ Hawkinson, it was the split year for Detroit Minnesota.
Speaker 1:He gets traded to Detroit's arch rival with Minnesota and he just connects with Kirk Cousins yeah, well, and he was doing well with Jared Goff before that too, so yes, he was he you, it's TJ Hawkinson.
Speaker 3:He was getting all the underneath stuff from Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 1:Man, I wish I knew what that trade was like, because obviously it sounds terrible. But the fact that the Lions drafted Sam Laporte of the year after that just kind of makes up for it. But I wonder if that's what they got with the pick Like I don't know.
Speaker 3:And then number three was George Kittle.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I mean it's not super surprising that George Kittle produces when George Kittle is healthy.
Speaker 3:It's George Kittle. He's a touchdown monster. Every year, he's going to get you the double digit touchdowns. Is he going to get hurt?
Speaker 1:Yes, but it's the touchdowns that keep him in the top five he's gonna drive you crazy in fantasy too, because, like he, he's going to have big games and then he's gonna have games where he doesn't show up as much yes, and then you have mark andrews, finished number four.
Speaker 3:He did get injured.
Speaker 1:He only played 15 games, but mark andrews is still lamar jackson's number one, blanket number one receiver to throw to and you know what I was looking, why his, uh, why he was all the way down there and suddenly I realized that it's kind of like he only had five touchdowns this year and that would definitely hurt the fantasy production.
Speaker 3:But TJ Hawkinson only had six. He's at number two. Oh see, I don't have that in front of me at the moment.
Speaker 1:Then at number five, that Evan Ingram was getting drafted high. So it was one of those things where I should have remembered that Evan Ingram had. This was his Jacksonville season and he had a good year his first year in Jacksonville. But for some reason I was still thinking he was a giant at this point in time and I remembered his last year with the Giants was so much worse than his first year with the jaguars yeah, his first year with the jaguars.
Speaker 3:He finishes top, top five, tight end. It's his first year of trevor lawrence and he just was the security blanket for trevor lawrence, just how mark andrews is the security blanket for lamar jackson. You know he's going to get the catches. He might not get the touchdowns, but you know he's going to perform for you if you're in a PPR format.
Speaker 1:Yep Also, like Tyler Higbee, was the security blanket for Matthew Stafford when Cooper Cup went down.
Speaker 3:Yeah, At number six, Tyler Higbee. Cooper Cup went down. Cooper Cup only played nine games. Tyler Higbee comes in and he literally just drove you with all those catches. That's where the targets went. He didn't score any touchdowns, but he had all those catches for you. Then number seven, Pat Frymuth. Okay, we could skip this guy. It's his second year in the league and I'm pretty sure was this Ben Rothenberger's last year, Was it? Big Ben didn't go out sooner than this. Did he go out in 2021 or did he go out in 2022?
Speaker 1:I feel like it's been a while since I've watched Big Ben play. I don't feel like Big Ben's still around at this point in time. I'll look that up while you talk.
Speaker 3:But yeah, pat Friermuth, he had the catches, he had the catches, that's all it was. He had the catches. And if you look at it after your top three, top from Lily four.
Speaker 1:Oh, this is Kenny Pickett rookie season. There is no big Ben, Okay. So Kenny Pickett, he just threw to Pat Friermuth. Huh yeah, I feel like I do kind of remember that there was a point in time when Pickett was just like throwing it, when he, when he finally took over the job, he was just throwing to Pat Friermuth all the time as his safety blanket man. If I would have remembered Kenny Pickett Wow, that shows you how quick a quarterback can expire in the NFL. If I would have remembered Kenny Pickett just two years after he was drafted and he gets traded in 2024.
Speaker 3:Yeah, Wow. Absolutely crazy. And then number eight was Cole Kmet. So if it was Kenny Pickett's rookie year, this means it was Justin Fields rookie year.
Speaker 1:No, justin Fields was the Trevor Lawrence here, so it was his second year.
Speaker 3:It was his second year, so he threw to Cole commit and Cole commit he. He finished with the so-so numbers. With catches he had 50, but he had seven touchdowns.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's going to put you in the seven touchdowns will definitely help you every single time. And then at number nine, does this even count Like? No honestly like I feel like like who's number 11. I feel like if I, if I got number 11, correct, I'm going to take credit for it.
Speaker 3:It's almost like do we call fantasy football creators and just tell them all right, scrap Taysom Hill out of this year and move, moved, david Njoku at finished at number 11 to number 10 and put Dalton Schultz at nine.
Speaker 1:Yeah, like I don't even know, like so, so I would have gotten that right there, but like I don't know, like taste some hill, like what are we doing? Like this guy's, this guy's the, the farm man back on punts, blocking punts. Uh, blocking for the punters, the last line of defense. This guy sometimes returns kicks. This guy's like sometimes throws passes, sometimes runs around and like how many of these stats are actually like tight end stats like? But I'm pulling it up right now. Okay, as a tight end, he got targeted 13 times. He caught nine passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns. As a running back, he ran for 96 yards on no, he ran 96 times 96 times for 575 yards.
Speaker 1:Like the guy's more of a running back than he is a tight end and seven russian touchdowns like I don't even know man, I don't even know. Like I I guess he's a tight end. He's. He's an h back. That's what he is. He's an h back.
Speaker 3:There is no official position for h back in fantasy football no, but, but it's like, how do you put him as a tight end?
Speaker 2:how do you list I?
Speaker 1:don't even know as number nine in tight end when he only has nine catches and if you're playing I'm sure he's even higher up on the list if you're playing in a league that calculates kick return or punt return yards, because I'm sure he added with that too Like this doesn't even add his quarterback numbers from a I'm looking at the one that I'm looking at right now it doesn't even factor in his quarterback numbers, it only factors in his running, his running and receiving numbers, which is which is crazy Taysom Hill it's okay I might've been a quote unquote top. Tason hill it's okay. This guy might have been a quote-unquote top five tight end this year if, if you were counting like all everything, including like returning okay.
Speaker 3:So in the beginning of the show I did say he played quarterback. He didn't. He didn't, really he didn't. He had 240, 40 passing yard passing yards and two passing touchdowns.
Speaker 1:He had a start. He had a start. Because the reason I remember this there I I played him in my tight end position that week that he had a start he had a start because the reason I remember this there I I played him in my tight end position that week that he had the start and he wasn't even uh, justification that I gave to everyone as to why it wasn't unfair and why I wouldn't be changing in my leagues that I ran was because he actually had less fantasy points than travis kelsey the week he started as quarterback yeah, and then, and then, and number 10, you had Dalton.
Speaker 1:Schultz. Dallas tight end. It doesn't really matter who it is. It doesn't matter who the Dallas tight end is at all. You put their name in on the list somewhere in the 6-10 range.
Speaker 3:We talked about this in the 2023 episode. For tight ends, dallas tight ends Doesn't matter, just put them on the list, just put them there. So, jame, if we were to compare the top 10 finishes to ADP, does anything really jump out to you?
Speaker 1:Yeah, no, I drafted way too much Kyle Pitts this year I don't know how to put it any other way than that and I drafted way too much Kyle Pitts the year afterwards. And I drafted way too much Kyle Pitts the year afterwards. And I drafted way too much Kyle Pitts the year after that too. You'd think I'd learn my lesson at some point in time. But for punishment at this point.
Speaker 3:The craziest thing is Kyle Pitts always finishes. Always is a top ADP tight end to be drafted, but he never finishes.
Speaker 1:Well, I mean, this year he got hurt, so he gets the pass for this year, right, I don't even know where he finished, because he got hurt pretty early with this one. And then you have Darren Waller. Yeah, shocked that, the Darren Waller where did the Darren Waller fall off, happened to. Let's see where. Darren Waller Wow, so 31,. Darren Waller finished 31 this year. So we only played nine games. Okay, only played nine games. Okay, only played nine games. Definitely hurts, but he was. But he had less fantasy points than than his backup, foster Moreau.
Speaker 3:So his Darren Waller. We'll get to this in in in a couple seasons, but Darren Waller's only had one big year Now. Now he only had two big years in his career.
Speaker 1:Really, it just feels like so many more than that it feels like it feels so much more than that.
Speaker 3:Then another person who fell off was Dallas Goddard. We talked about it. No, dallas Goddard got injured, though, yeah, he got injured. And then Dawson Knox. He didn't finish bad, he did finish as tight at tight end. 14 really 13, because tason kill does, hill doesn't count, yeah, 13 okay, and but it's like josh allen he throws to his tight ends, but he doesn't. You also?
Speaker 1:had you also had stefan diggs finishing the top five was cole beasley there this year, think he came in late. I think that cole beasley came in late and took some of those targets away yeah, and then number, and then you have zackerts.
Speaker 3:Zackerts finished a tight end 19 but he only played 10 games.
Speaker 1:He got hurt.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and that gave that gave the opportunity to trey mcbride to start to come forward yeah, so it's we talked about at the end of the last episode for um the wide receivers. Injuries are always to hurt everyone in the league.
Speaker 1:Wow, kyle Pitts played 10 games.
Speaker 3:Yeah, injuries.
Speaker 1:Yeah, no, no, but I thought it was less than that man. That's just brutal man. I wonder if I'll actually learn next year.
Speaker 3:Will you learn for the 2025 season? Do not draft Kyle.
Speaker 1:Pitts. We review this information with you guys so that you realize what mistakes you continually make, every single year.
Speaker 3:So to wrap up the adp and top 10 finishes for the 2022 season for tight ends can I say one final thing? Yes, you can tight ends.
Speaker 1:Like always, you never know what it's going to be outside of just three or four players.
Speaker 3:Yeah, you, you don't know. So for the ADP for single quarterback started off was Travis Kelsey at 13.6. Mark Andrews at 24.7. Kyle Pitts at 32.9. George Kittle at 36.7. Darren Waller at 41.9. Dalton Schultz at 54.2. Tj Hawkinson at 66.8,. Dallas Goddard at 72,. Dawson Knox at 83.4,. Zach Ertz at 86.4. Over to Superflex Travis Kelsey at 16.9,. Mark Andrews at 24.2,. Kyle Pitts at 34.1,. George Kittle at 45.3,. Darren Waller at 51.2, dalton Schultz at 62.1, tj Hawkinson at 74.7, dallas Goddard at 81.5, zach Ertz at 89.8, dawson Knox at 94.3. And then your top 10 finishes again for the 2022 season. For tight end number one Travis Kelsey. Kelsey number two tj hockinson. Number three george kittle. Number four mark andrews. Number five evan ingram. Number six tyler higby. Number seven pat firemuth. Number eight cole commit. Number nine, who should not be on the list tason hill number 10, the real number nine, the real number nine dalton schultz.
Speaker 1:The real number nine Dalton Schultz and the real number 10, david Njoku.
Speaker 3:And thanks again for listening to season two, episode four of the Fantasy Football Archivers. My name is Zach Waldron, with your co-host, jay Mill. Hey, and thanks again.
