Ep. 120 - YOU ARE TOO OLD TO FILM WEDDINGS... Apparently
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Fresh off the back of two weeks of content creator conversation, Danny and Jason were planning something different this week. Then Jason arrived with a post that derailed everything in the best possible way.
A photography and videography duo in America published a post arguing that Gen Z couples should only hire Gen Z photographers and videographers because they understand them better. That older suppliers make couples feel like their teacher is in the room. That they speak the same visual language because they grew up with film revival, Y2K nostalgia, and editorial photography. The post has since been removed and the comments disabled, but not before photographer Emma Wilson from Story Of Your Day posted a response so measured, so precise, and so well argued that Danny and Jason spend most of this episode reading it out and agreeing with every single word.
They get into why attacking another supplier to sell yourself is not just bad marketing, it puts an expiry date on your business. Why connection isn't generational, it's human. Why every trend Gen Z is currently reviving was built by the generation they're telling couples not to hire. And why in any other industry, a post like that would be an open and shut case of age discrimination.
They also touch on the ongoing content creator conversation, what the engagement from the last two weeks actually looked like, why some of the responses missed the point entirely, and whether videographers have been too quiet for too long when it comes to having these conversations in the open.
A looser one this week, genuinely unplanned, but probably one of the more interesting episodes in a while.
Shoutout to Emma Wilson at Story Of Your Day for the response post. https://www.instagram.com/p/DctYPNsCKvp/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsi=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
