Struggle2Success Podcast
Welcome to the Struggle2Success Podcast.
I’m your host, Sterling Brown — and around here, we don’t hide from the hard stuff.
I didn’t launch this podcast from a polished place — I launched it while still healing. What started as my personal story has grown into something bigger: a space where we talk real about the struggles that shape us, the systems that confine us, and the current issues that weigh on our communities.
This isn’t just about surviving — it’s about transforming. From incarceration and fatherhood to mental health, relationships, reentry, and everything in between — this is where we get honest about the climb and what it takes to keep going.
So whether you’re tuning in from your car, your crib, or somewhere in between trying to figure it all out — you’re not alone. We’re in this together. Airing every other Saturday.
This is Struggle2Success — life is trials. Stay focused.

Looking Back At 2025
SPEAKER_00Hello, wonderful people. Before we get into the first episode of 2026, let's take a moment and talk about 2025. 2025 wasn't just a year of episodes, it was a year of real conversations with real people who showed up honestly, vulnerably, and without pretense. On struggle to success, we talked about survival, pressure, comebacks, rebuilding from the ground up. But we didn't do it alone. We sat with men and women who knew the weight of incarceration, recovery, identity loss, and were brave enough to talk about what it took to rebuild. Voices like Corey Angelo, who reminded us that the worthiness doesn't come after success, it starts before it. That mindset shift alone changed how many of us looked at our own reflection. We had conversations rooted in healing and advocacy, like the powerful dialogue with Dr. Sarah Wright, who pulled back the curtain on injuries you can't see, the importance of patient advocacy, and the quiet fight people face navigating the system that weren't built for them. We talked about re-entry, accountability, and the transformation with people doing the work on the inside and outside, coaches, mentors, professionals, and everyday individuals who choose growth over excuses. And we didn't just interview success stories. We honored the process stories. Stories that were still unfolding, stories that were still messy, stories that reminded us that the progress doesn't always come wrapped in applause. 2025 taught us how to survive, but it also showed us what survival looks like through different lenses faith, discipline, recovery, mentorship, family, and purpose. Every guest added a layer. Every conversation added a perspective.

Mission And Weekly Promise
The 2026 Pivot: After Survival
When Survival Enters Home Life
Discipline’s Cost And Isolation
SPEAKER_00Hello, wonderful people. My name is Sterling Brown, and yes, I'm your host to Struggle to Success Podcast. If you've been locked in with Struggle to Success, then you already know we've talked about survival, pressure, comebacks, and rebuilding from the ground up. This episode, the first episode of 2026, picks up where those conversations leave off. What happens after you've learned how to survive? Well, wonderful people, this episode carries a different kind of weight. Struggle just doesn't stop when you get the job. Success doesn't mean the pressure disappears. And growth doesn't always look like applauses. Sometimes it looks like exhaustion. Today we're talking about survival versus home life. And previously on this podcast, we talked about survival and comebacks. This conversation is about what the survival mindset can cost if we don't learn how to shift your mindset from survival to home like. But at home, I was still on duty, still braced, still mentally on. And the thing about survival mode is that it doesn't turn off automatically and you have to choose to take it off. No one teaches you that part. We celebrate resilience, we praise toughness, we reward endurance, but no one pulls you aside and says, You don't have to fight here. Even someone like Daven Goggins, who built his entire public identity around discipline and surviving through suffering, has openly discussed the mental cost of living in the space of nonstop. In his book Can't Hurt Me and in interviews, he explains that the building calluses on your mind through constant hardship makes you strong, but it doesn't automatically teach you when to stand down. And if you never learn how to shift, the same survival discipline can harden you to the point of emotional isolation. This is a reminder that survival is a tool, not a permanent home. Let me be clear, survival mode isn't weakness, it's not failure, it's not something to be ashamed of. Survival mode sometimes saves us, but what saves you in one season can sabotage you in the next if you don't adjust. Growth requires a new gear, and at times that gear feels uncomfortable because it asks you to slow down, to be present, to be emotionally available. And that's harder than grinding on a 12, a 16, or 18-hour shift. Here's something you need to hear. You don't have to perform at home. Strength isn't just about how much you carry, it's knowing when to pull down. The people closest to you don't know your exhaustion, nor do they know your experiences on your stress. Remember that survival mindset looks different for everyone. Allowing the survival mindset to run the show will start costing more than it should. So here's a couple questions I want to leave you with. Why are you still in survival mode when you're actually safe? And who deserves the version of you that isn't bracing for impact? You don't have to change everything overnight. Just start by noticing. Take notice when the armor comes home with you. Notice when silence replaces presence. Notice when exhaustion becomes distance. Awareness is the first step out of survival mode. If this episode hit home, you're not alone. There's work after the grind. This part of the success nobody claps for, but it matters. Share this episode with someone who's caring more than they admit. Leave me a comment and tell me what survival looks like for you right now. And remember, life is trials, stay focused.
