The Power of Endurance: Facing the False Summit with Courage
Endurance. Fear. Mindset. These words have been sitting heavy on my heart lately, and today, I want to invite you to look at them differently. Because here’s the truth: our journeys are full of roadblocks—the kind that cut us off at the knees, that make us feel like we’re sinking in quicksand, that whisper, “You’re not strong enough.” But I need you to know that every single obstacle, every single setback, is part of your story. And if you take a moment to look back, you’ll see it. You’ll see the moments when you chose to keep going, and you’ll see the moments when you almost gave up.
The hero’s journey isn’t just something in books and movies—it’s yours. And just like every hero, you will face tests, enemies, and false summits. Those moments when you think, “I’ve made it,” only to realize there’s another mountain ahead. It’s in those moments that we have a choice: Do we stop? Do we say, “This is too much”? Or do we step up and ask for strength—from God, from the universe, from within ourselves—to take the next step? I was reminded of this while reading The One Truth by John Gordon. He writes, “The forces that divide you and the power that unites you are at war, and your mind, body, and soul are the battleground.” Let that sink in. Your struggles aren’t random. Your journey isn’t meaningless. There is a battle happening, and how you show up matters—not just for you, but for everyone who is watching, everyone who will one day be inspired by your endurance.
Recently, life threw us another challenge. My husband, Chad, finally scheduled surgery after years of pushing through pain. And right when we thought we were in a season of rest, disaster struck—our rental apartment flooded. Everything felt like too much. But we had a choice. We could sit in anger and frustration, or we could shift our mindset and decide to endure. This is what I want to leave you with today: You don’t have to like the hardship, but you do have to decide how you’ll move through it. Will you stay stuck in the “why me,” or will you look forward and trust that this challenge is part of something greater? Because I promise you—on the other side of endurance, of choosing to keep going, is the life you were meant to live.
So today, I ask you: What are you enduring? And will the way you think about it—the energy you bring to it—change the way you move through it? Because you will get through it. You will reach that summit. It just may not look like what you expected.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for choosing courage. Until next time, keep moving forward.
