A Letter to The Ones Who Stay

As I wrapped up this month of mental health conversations, I found myself unexpectedly raw—sitting in the weight of memories, moments, and truths that still catch in my throat. I didn’t want to end this series with stats or strategies. I wanted to end it with heart. Because for those of us walking beside someone we love who struggles with their mental health—whether as a parent, a partner, a friend—it’s not a job we signed up for, but it’s one we continue to show up for every day. This episode became my love letter to you—the ones who stay, who listen in the silence, who research meds in the middle of the night, and who carry hope like it’s oxygen.

What I’ve learned is this: we can’t fix what isn’t ours to carry. We can’t heal for them—but we can sit beside them so they never have to heal alone. And that kind of quiet, unwavering love? That is courage. Not the loud kind—but the soft, sacred kind. The kind that holds space even when it hurts. The kind that evolves when your child, your spouse, your friend can’t show up in the world—but still needs you to stay. This post is for those who hold both love and fear in the same breath. You are not invisible. You are not weak. And you are not doing it wrong. You are doing deeply human, deeply holy work. Keep going. Not to be everything for everyone—but to remind yourself that you were never meant to do this alone either.

So if you’re tired, let this be permission to rest. If you’re scared, let this be your reminder that courage lives in continuing. And if you feel unseen—know that I see you. And I’ll keep saying it until you believe it too.
