When Erin Pohan and I sat down for this episode of The Courage Coalition, I knew we were going to talk about accounting but what we actually talked about was so much more than that. Erin isn’t just an accountant. She’s a creator of community, a champion of women doing things differently in an industry that hasn’t always made space for “different.” From her early days balancing registers in a Walmart office to launching her own firm and eventually creating the WAVE Conference, Erin’s story is one of listening to her own inner voice even when the world had a different idea of what success should look like.
We talked about what happens when we stop trying to fit the mold and start building something from who we really are. We shared how shame—not spreadsheets is often the reason entrepreneurs avoid their finances, and how relational, values-driven bookkeeping changes that story. We dug into why naming your money creates emotional clarity, and why building real community—for both our clients and ourselves isn’t optional. This episode was a reminder that courage doesn’t always look loud. Sometimes, it looks like sitting beside the person eating alone. Sometimes, it looks like creating a conference you've never planned before. And sometimes, it simply means saying: “They weren’t for me… and that’s okay.”
This conversation is for every woman who’s doing it her way, wondering if she belongs. You do. And maybe the most courageous thing you’ll ever do is stop trying to belong and start believing in who you already are.
