Learning to Hum Through the Unknown and Releasing the Story of Not Enough
This past week reminded me that courage doesn’t always roar it sometimes sits in an airport crying, whispering, “I don’t understand, but I’ll keep going.” Missing my flight felt like failure in motion. I had everything planned flights booked, conferences lined up, meaningful interviews scheduled and then, in one unexpected moment, it all fell apart. But as I sat there in that airport, what hurt most wasn’t the inconvenience. It was the echo of an old story the one that says, you’ve messed up again. That familiar voice that questions your worth every time something doesn’t go as planned. I thought I had outgrown that voice, but it came back, reminding me that healing often circles back not to punish, but to deepen the lesson.
Later that same week, my daughter was in a car accident. She was safe, thank God, but when we learned her truck wasn’t fully insured, the tears came again. The same voice whispered: You should’ve checked. You failed. But sitting with it, I realized something powerful these moments weren’t punishment, they were invitations. Invitations to stop attaching my worth to perfection, performance, or control. To stop equating mistakes with failure. To see that my value doesn’t fluctuate with circumstance. Sometimes, God lets the plans unravel to show us that the mission isn’t just in the doing it’s in the being.
So maybe courage isn’t having all the right notes it’s choosing to keep humming when you’ve forgotten the words. To show up, still soft, still hopeful, still learning. The missed flights, the miscommunications, the broken plans they don’t define who we are. The heart behind how we move through them does. Grace allows us to hum through the unknown, trusting that one day the words will come. And until they do, we keep showing up imperfect, growing, and always, always enough.
