Bible 365
For over 30 years I’ve talked with men and women who deeply love God, but struggle to understand the Bible. Some believe that unless you are a Theologian, Pastor, or Christian leader, you really can’t understand it. But this is just not true. I’ve launched this simple podcast to help everyday men and women fall in love with the Word of God. Each day I’ll read a portion of Scriptures from the Old and New Testament, covering the entire Bible in one year. After I’ll give a brief devotional. Five days later the high priest Ananias came down with some elders and a lawyer named Tertullus, who presented to the governor their case against Paul. When Paul had been called in, Tertullus opened the prosecution. Because of you, we have enjoyed a lasting peace, and your foresight has brought improvements to this nation. In every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, we acknowledge this with all gratitude. But in order not to delay you any further, I beg your indulgence to hear us briefly. We have found this man to be a pestilence, stirring up dissension among the Jews all over the world. He is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes, and he even tried to desecrate the temple, so we seized him. By examining him yourself, you will be able to learn the truth about all our charges against him. The Jews concurred, asserting that these charges were true. When the governor motioned for Paul to speak, he began his response. Knowing that you have been a judge over this nation for many years, I gladly make my defense. You can verify for yourself that no more than twelve days ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship. Yet my accusers did not find me debating with anyone in the temple or rallying up a crowd in the synagogues or in the city, nor can they prove to you any of their charges against me. I do confess to you, however, that I worship the God of our fathers according to the way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is laid down by the law and written in the prophets, and I have the same hope in God that they themselves cherish, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. In this hope I strive always to maintain a clear conscience before God and man. After several years then, I returned to Jerusalem to bring alms to my people and to present offerings. At the time they found me in the temple, I was ceremonially clean and was not inciting a crowd or an uproar. But there are some Jews from the province of Asia who ought to appear before you and bring charges, if they have anything against me. Otherwise, let these men state for themselves any crime they found in me when I stood before the Sanhedrin, unless it was this one thing I called out as I stood in their presence. It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today. Then Felix, who was well informed about the way, adjourned the hearing and said, When Lysias the commander comes, I will decide your case. He ordered the centurion to keep Paul under guard, but to allow him some freedom and permit his friends to minister to his needs. After several days, Felix returned with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and listened to him speak about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul expounded on righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, You may go for now. When I find the time, I will call for you. At the same time, he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe. So he sent for Paul frequently and talked with him. After two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Portius Festus. And wishing to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison. Psalm chapter 4. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness. You have relieved my distress, show me grace and hear my prayer. How long, O men, will my honor be maligned? How long will you love vanity and seek after lies? Selah. Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself. The Lord hears when I call to him. Be angry, yet do not sin. On your bed, search your heart and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the Lord. Many ask, Who can show us the good? Shine the light of your face upon us, O Lord. You have filled my heart with more joy than when grain and new wine abound. I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Proverbs 18, verses 16 through 18. A man's gift opens doors for him and brings him before great men. The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him. Casting the lot ends quarrels and separates strong opponents. Today's devotional is coming from Psalm 4, verses 6 and 7, and I really hope that this devotional today brings encouragement to people who are just oversaturated with news and just filled with bad. Everything's bad. The country is just going down. And when I say country, I mean whatever country it is that you live in right now, no matter where it is, it seems like everything feels dark. And if you're not a person who studies history, you'll think this is the worst time ever. But look, we've been reading through the Bible. Do you see what's happening in the Old Testament? I mean, there are some really crazy times. And listen to David. Many ask, who can show us the good? A lot of people are still asking that today, I believe. Hey, we hear all the bad that's going on, but who can show us the good? In the NLT it says, Many people say, Who will show us better times? And then David says something very profound Shine the light of your face upon us, O Lord. I love how this also reads in the NLT. Let your face smile on us, Lord. And then he says this in verse seven You have filled my heart with more joy than when grain and new wine abound. I want you to know that the Lord can show you the good. He can shine the light of his face upon us and fill our heart with more joy than when grain and new wine abound. Let's pray. Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus, and today I just thank you that you can show us the good. We ask today that you would shine the light of your face upon us, O Lord. Fill our heart with more joy than when grain and new wine abound. Draw us close by the presence of your Holy Spirit and reveal your Son to us. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus. Amen. Well, I sure hope you enjoyed today's devotional. If you're getting something out of the Bible three sixty five podcast, consider sharing it with your family and with your friends. Please continue to pray for me. I am praying for you. Have a great day, and I'll see you tomorrow with day one eighty eight.
