Welcome to day 193 of the Bible 365 podcast. My name is Randy Gudo, and today we're going to be reading through 1 Chronicles chapter 12 verses 19 through 40 and chapters 13 and 14. Romans chapter 1 verses 1 through 17, Psalm 9, verses 13 through 20, and Proverbs chapter 19, verses 4 and 5. The translation I'm using throughout this podcast is the Berean Standard Bible, also known as the BSB. Let's read. 1 Chronicles 12, verses 19 through 40. Some from Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. They did not help the Philistines because the Philistine rulers consulted and sent David away, saying, It will cost us our heads if he defects to his master Saul. When David went to Ziklag, these men from Manasseh defected to him. Abna, Josebad, Jediel, Michael, Josebad, Elihu, and Zilothai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh. They helped David against the raiders, for they were all mighty men of valor and commanders in the army. For at that time men came to David day after day to help him, until he had a great army, like the army of God. Now these are the numbers of men armed for battle who came to David at Hebron to turn Saul's kingdom over to him, in accordance with the word of the Lord. From Judah, 6,800 armed troops bearing shields and spears. From Simeon, 7,100 mighty men of valor, ready for battle. From Levi, 4,600, including Jehoida, leader of the house of Aaron, with 3,700 men, and Zadok, a mighty young man of valor, with 22 commanders from his own family. From Benjamin, the kinsmen of Saul, 3,000, most of whom had remained loyal to the house of Saul up to that time. From Ephraim, 20,800 mighty men of valor, famous among their own clans. From the half tribe of Manasseh, 18,000 designated by name to come and make David king. From Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do, two hundred chiefs with all their kinsmen at their command. From Zebulun, 50,000 fit for service, trained for battle with all kinds of weapons of war, who with one purpose were devoted to David. From Naphtali, 1,000 commanders, accompanied by 37,000 men with shield and spear. From Dan, 28,600 prepared for battle. From Asher, 40,000 fit for service, prepared for battle. And from east of the Jordan, from Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh there, 120,000 armed with every kind of weapon of war. All these men of war, arrayed for battle, came to Hebron fully devoted to make David king over all Israel. And all the rest of the Israelites were of one mind to make David king. They spent three days there eating and drinking with David, for their relatives had provided for them. And their neighbors from as far away as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali came bringing food on donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen, abundant supplies of flour, fig cakes and raisin cakes, wine and oil, oxen and sheep. Indeed, there was joy in Israel. Then David conferred with all his leaders, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and he said to the whole assembly of Israel, If it seems good to you, and if this is of the Lord our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers in all the land of Israel, and also to the priest and Levites in their cities and pasture lands, so that they may join us. Then let us bring back the ark of our God, for we did not inquire of him in the days of Saul. And because this proposal seemed right to all the people, the whole assembly agreed to it. So David assembled all Israel, from the river Shihor in Egypt to Labo Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kirath Jirim. David and all Israel went up to Balah of Judah, that is, Kirith Jirim, to bring up from there the ark of God the Lord, who is enthroned between the cherubim, the ark that is called by the name. So they carried the ark of God from the house of Abinadab on a new cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guarding the cart. David and all the Israelites were celebrating before God with all their might, with songs and on harps and lyres, with tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets. When they came to the threshing floor of Kaidon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark, because the oxen had stumbled. And the anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God. Then David became angry because the Lord had burst forth against Uzzah. So he named that place Perez Uzzah, as it is called to this day. That day David feared God and asked, How can I ever bring the ark of God to me? So he did not move the ark with him to the city of David. Instead he took it aside to the house of Obed Edom the Gittite. Thus the ark of God remained with the family of Obed Edom in his house for three months. And the Lord blessed his household and everything he owned. Now Hiram, king of Tyre, sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs, stonemasons, and carpenters, to build a palace for him. And David realized that the Lord had established him as king over Israel, and had highly exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel. And David took more wives in Jerusalem and became the father of more sons and daughters. These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem, Shamua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, Ibhar, Elishua, El Palet, Noga, Nepheg, Japheh, Elishema, Beelida, and Eliphalet. When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of him. But David learned of this and went out to face them. Now the Philistines had come and raided the valley of Rephaim. So David inquired of God, Should I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand? Go, replied the Lord, for I will deliver them into your hand. So David and his men went up to Bel Perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, Like a bursting flood, God has burst out against my enemies by my hand. So they called that place Bel Perazim. There the Philistines abandoned their gods, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire. Once again the Philistines raided the valley. So David again inquired of God, who answered him, Do not march up after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees. As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move out to battle, because this will mean that God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines. So David did as God had commanded him, and he struck down the army of the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Geezer. And David's fame went out into every land, and the Lord caused all nations to fear him. Romans chapter 1 verses 1 through 17. Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God, the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures, regarding his son, who was a descendant of David according to the flesh, and who through the Spirit of Holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him and on behalf of his name, we received grace and apostleship to call all those among the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ, to all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being proclaimed all over the world. God, whom I serve with my spirit in preaching the gospel of His Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times, asking that now at last, by God's will, I may succeed in coming to you. For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you. That is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith. I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, how often I plan to come to you, but have been prevented from visiting until now, in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles. I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome. I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Greek. For the gospel reveals the righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish, just as it is written, the righteous will live by faith. Psalm 9, verses 13 through 20. Be merciful to me, O Lord. See how my enemies afflict me. Lift me up from the gates of death, that I may declare all your praises, that within the gates of daughter Zion I may rejoice in your salvation. The nations have fallen into a pit of their making, their feet are caught in the net they have hidden. The Lord is known by the justice he brings. The wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. Hegeon, Selah. The wicked will return to Sheol, all the nations who forget God, for the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the oppressed forever dashed. Rise up, O Lord, do not let man prevail. Let the nations be judged in your presence. Lay terror upon them, O Lord. Let the nations know they are but men. Selah. Proverbs 19, verses four and five. Wealth attracts many friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend. A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who utters lies will not escape. Today's devotional is coming from Romans chapter one, verse 16. It says, I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Greek. I want to say a couple of controversial things right now. We're living in a time where there is an extremely anti-Jewish rhetoric, you know, anti-Semitism. And the propagator of a lot of this is coming from even some on the far right, a lot of influencers, so to speak, who know very little, if anything at all, of the Bible or of church history. And this has nothing to do whether a person is a dispensationalist or not, and I don't have time to get into that. But I want to say this that the gospel is for everyone. And there's something that I have observed with a lot of the vitriol that's coming out today. It's like salvation is for everyone except for the Jewish community. There's such a hatred that it just makes no sense to me. And we need to be careful that we don't get sucked into that. Could you imagine if the Apostle Paul were here today, the Apostle Paul, whose pattern, his custom from town to town, was to first go to the Jewish synagogues and also preach to the Gentiles. And once the Jewish leaders booted him out, then he would just exclusively go to the Gentiles in that town. But the next town he came to, first thing, Jewish synagogues. Paul loved his people, he wept over his people, he even said, which we'll see in this epistle later on, that he could wish himself accursed that they might be saved. When Paul was under house arrest at the end of the book of Acts, the first thing he did was call for the leaders of the Jewish synagogue. So Paul never stopped loving the Jewish people. And guess what? Neither does God. He loves everyone. The Bible says that he's not willing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Why am I saying all this today? Because we're living in a time where things have become so unhinged that we need to say it. And this verse right here cuts through everything because Paul says, I'm not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. And it includes the Jewish people. He even says here, first to the Jew, then to the Greek. So the gospel of Jesus Christ, who is the Son of Man in the flesh, guess what? Jesus was Jewish. The writer of this epistle, Paul, guess what? He was Jewish. Let's be careful not to get sucked into the vortex of all of this insanity that's being spouted and has been and amping up over the last few years. Today, I want to be provoked to get the gospel out to everyone. And it doesn't matter if they're black, white, red, yellow, Jewish, gentile, it doesn't matter. The power of God for salvation is for everyone who believes. Let's pray. Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus, and my prayer today is that we would really be able to grasp the depth and the power of what Romans chapter 1, verse 16 communicates. I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Greek. Help us to be provoked to get the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ out to everyone. Draw us close by the presence of your Holy Spirit and reveal your Son to us. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus. Amen. Well, I sure hope you enjoyed today's devotional. If you're getting something out of the Bible 365 podcast, consider sharing it with your family and with your friends. Please continue to pray for me. I am praying for you. Have a great day, and I'll see you tomorrow with day one ninety four.
