Welcome to day 198 of the Bible 365 podcast. My name is Randy Gudo and today we're going to be reading through 1 Chronicles chapters 24, 25, and 26, verses 1 through 11, Romans chapter 4, verses 1 through 12, Psalm chapter 13, and Proverbs chapter 19, verses 15 and 16. The translation I'm using throughout this podcast is the Berean Standard Bible, also known as the BSP. Let's read. 1 Chronicles chapter 24. These were the divisions of the descendants of Aaron. The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. But Nadab and Abihu died before their father did, and they had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priest. With the help of Eleazar's descendant Zadok and Ithamar's descendant Ahimelech, David divided them according to the offices of their service. Since more leaders were found among Eleazar's descendants than those of Ithamar, they were divided accordingly. There were sixteen heads of families from the descendants of Eleazar, and eight from the descendants of Ithamar. Thus they were divided by lot, for there were officers of the sanctuary and officers of God among both Eleazar's and Ithamar's descendants. The scribe, Shemiah, son of Nathanael, a Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officers, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech, son of Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priest and the Levites, one family being taken from Eleazar, and then one from Ithamar. The first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jediah, the third to Harem, the fourth to Siaram, the fifth to Maukhizah, the sixth to Mijemen, the seventh to Hakaz, the eighth to Abijah, the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shechaniah, the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jacob, the thirteenth to Hapa, the fourteenth to Jeb, the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Emmer, the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Hapazez, the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jeheskal, the twenty first to Jacan, the twenty second to Gamel, the twenty third to Deleah, and the twenty fourth to Meaziah. This was their appointed order for service when they entered the house of the Lord, according to the regulations prescribed for them by their forefather Aaron, as the Lord, the God of Israel had commanded him. Now these were the rest of the descendants of Levi, from the sons of Amram, Shubael, from the sons of Shubael, Jediah, as for Rehabiah, from his sons the first was Ishiah, from the Isharites, Shalomoth, from the sons of Shalomoth, Jahath, from the sons of Hebron, Jeriah was the first, Amariah the second, Jehaziel the third, and Jechemeim the fourth, from the sons of Uziel, Micah, from the sons of Micah, Shamer, the brother of Micah, Ishiah, from the sons of Ishiah, Zachariah, the sons of Morari, Mali and Mushai, the son of Jaaziah, Bino, the descendants of Morari from Jaziah, Bino, Shohem, Zakir, and Ibrai. From Mali, Elieazar, who had no sons, from Kish, Jeromiel, the son of Kish. And the sons of Mushai, Malai, Eder, and Jeremoth. These were the sons of the Levites, according to their families. As their brothers, the descendants of Aaron did, they also cast lots in the presence of King David and of Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the families of the priest and Levites, the family heads and their younger brothers alike. 1 Chronicles chapter 25. Additionally, David and the commanders of the army set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthon to prophesy with the accompaniment of lyres, harps, and cymbals. The following is the list of the men who performed this service. From the sons of Asaph, Zachar, Joseph, Netheniah, and Asarelah. These sons of Asaph were under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the direction of the king. From the sons of Jeduthon, Gedaliah, Zerai, Jeshiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Matathiah, six in all, under the direction of their father Jeduthan, who prophesied with the harp, giving thanks and praise to the Lord, from the sons of Heman, Bekaiah, Madaniah, Uziel, Shebuel, Jeremoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliatha, Gedaltai, Romamtai Ezir, Josh Bacashah, Malathai, Hothor, and Mahazoth. All these sons of Heman, the king's seer, were given him through the promises of God to exalt him. For God had given Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. All these were under the direction of their fathers for the music of the house of the Lord with cymbals, harps, and lyres, for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthan, and Heman were under the direction of the king. Together with their relatives, who were all trained and skillful in the songs of the Lord, they numbered 288. They cast lots for their duties, young and old alike, teacher as well as pupil. The first lot, which was for Asaph, fell to Joseph, his sons, and his brothers, twelve and all. The second to Gedaliah, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The third to Zachar, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The fourth to Israel, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The fifth to Nathaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The sixth to Bakiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The seventh to Jessareh, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The eighth to Joshiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The ninth to Madaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The tenth to Shimai, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The eleventh to Azarel, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The twelfth to Hashabiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The thirteenth to Shubel, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The fourteenth to Matathiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The fifteenth to Jeremoth, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The sixteenth to Hananiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The seventeenth to Josh Bakasha, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The eighteenth to Hanani, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The nineteenth to Malathi, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The twentieth to Eliatha, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The twenty first to Hother, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The twenty second to Gedaltai, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. The twenty third to Mahazoth, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all, and the twenty fourth to Romamti Ezir, his sons and his brothers, twelve and all. Chronicles chapter twenty six verses one through eleven. These were the divisions of the gatekeepers. From the Korahites, Meshelamiah, son of Kori, one of the sons of Asaph. Meshelamiah had sons, Zachariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebediah the third, Jathniel the fourth, Elam the fifth, Jehohanon the sixth, and Elioani the seventh, and Obed-Edom also had sons, Shemiah the firstborn, Jehosabad the Second, Joah the third, Sakar the fourth, Nathanael the fifth, Amiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, and Peulathi the eighth, for God had blessed Obed-Edom. Also to his son Shemiah were born sons who ruled over their families because they were strong, capable men. Shemiah's sons were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad. His brothers were Elihu and Semekiah, also capable men. All these were descendants of Obed-Edom. They and their sons and brothers were capable men with strength to do the work, sixty-two in all from Obed-Edom. Meshelemiah also had sons and brothers who were capable men, eighteen in all. Hosa the Morarite also had sons. Shimrai I, although he was not the firstborn, his father had appointed him as the first, Hilkiah II, Tebaliah III, and Zechariah the fourth. The sons and brothers of Hosa numbered thirteen in all. Romans chapter 4, verses 1 through 12. What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has discovered? If Abraham was indeed justified by works, he had something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. Now the wages of the worker are not credited as a gift, but as an obligation. However, to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness. And David speaks likewise of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works. Blessed are they whose lawless acts are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him. Is this blessing only on the circumcised or also on the uncircumcised? We have been saying that Abraham's faith was credited to him as righteousness. In what context was it credited? Was it after his circumcision or before? It was not after, but before. And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then, he is the father of all who believe but are not circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them. And he is also the father of the circumcised, who are not only circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our Father Abraham had before he was circumcised. Psalm 13. How long, O Lord, will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle in my soul, with sorrow in my heart each day? How long will my enemy dominate me? Consider me and respond, O Lord my God, give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death, lest my enemy say, I have overcome him, and my foes rejoice when I fall. But I have trusted in your loving devotion. My heart will rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me. Proverbs 19, verses 15 and 16. Laziness brings on deep sleep, and an idle soul will suffer hunger. He who keeps a commandment preserves his soul, but he who is careless in his ways will die. Today's devotional is coming from Psalm chapter 13. You know, David is bearing his soul before God. And you know, sometimes you are so overwhelmed that you just maybe need to be a little bit extra. David is being quite a bit extra right here. How long, O Lord, will you forget me forever? I mean, can you hear this uh just passion inside of him and this he's just so distraught. Will you forget me forever? He's talking to God as if God would forget us, much less forget us forever. How long will you hide your face from me? Sometimes it feels like that, right? And David, he is not playing around, he is putting it all on the table before God. How long will my enemy dominate me? But then the way he ends is so important. And I've heard this said so many times in my life. It's not how you start, it's how you finish. And I guess the same can be true in prayer. It doesn't matter how you start, just get in there, open up your mouth, bear your soul, cry, weep, shout, whatever you need to do. But how we end is so important. And how does David end this prayer of desperation? He says this. But I have trusted in your loving devotion. My heart will rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me. David was not going to end by allowing his emotions and even what he may have saw to dictate his perception of God, his love for God, his confidence and trust in the Lord, and a heart that just rejoiced and sang, recognizing that God's been very good to me. Let's pray. Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus, and today I lift up all of our listeners, and we say this today. We trust in your loving devotion. Our heart will rejoice in your salvation. We will sing to you, Lord, for you have been good to us. Draw us close by the presence of your Holy Spirit and reveal your Son to us. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus. Amen. Well, I sure hope you enjoyed today's devotional. If you're getting something out of the Bible 365 podcast, consider sharing it with your family and with your friends. Please continue to pray for me.
