🎙️ Deep Dive Drive – Episode 82: Can You Still See Progress When the Scoreline Hurts?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this episode of Deep Dive Drive, recorded on my morning commute, I reflect on one of the biggest challenges in coaching:
Can you still see progress when the scoreline hurts?
After a difficult result, it’s easy to focus only on the number at the end of the game. The goals conceded, the mistakes made, the disappointment of losing. But sometimes, hidden inside a tough scoreline, there are signs of growth that matter far more than the result.
In this episode, I talk about:
- Why scorelines don’t always tell the full story
- How to identify learning moments within difficult games
- The importance of separating performance from result
- Why progress can still exist inside setbacks
- How coaches can help players reflect without losing confidence
This episode isn’t about pretending losses don’t hurt.
They do.
But if we only measure development by the final score, we risk missing the small wins — the improved decisions, the better reactions, the moments of resilience, and the lessons that shape players long term.
If you’re a coach, parent, or player, this episode is a reminder that progress isn’t always loud, obvious, or reflected on the scoreboard.
Sometimes growth is found in the hardest games.
Look deeper. Learn more.
One drive at a time.
