Episode 2: The Role of Satan — Who Is the Enemy?

In week two of the Thoughtful Theology series Who Is the Enemy?, Timothy continues exploring the biblical identity and role of Satan within the unseen realm. Building on the previous episode about the “original rebel,” this teaching examines how the Old Testament presents Satan not only as an adversarial figure, but also as one functioning in the role of “the adversary” within the heavenly court.

Using passages from 1 Chronicles 21, Job 1–2, and 2 Samuel 24, Timothy explains the significance of the Hebrew phrase “the Satan” and how the definite article points to a role or function rather than necessarily a personal name. The episode explores how Satan operates as an accuser, challenging the loyalty and allegiance of God’s people, particularly in the story of Job.

Timothy also discusses the tension between passages where Satan incites David and others where Yahweh is described as permitting or provoking the same event, encouraging listeners to carefully study Scripture in its original context. Throughout the teaching, listeners are reminded that the enemy seeks destruction and separation from God, while Jesus Christ offers life, redemption, and fullness through allegiance to Him.
