National awards are fun to celebrate, but the real question is what they’re actually measuring. We’re joined by Jessica Hultberg, CFP, and Abby Rose, CFP, CPA, two of our standout advisors who were named to the “200 Women Advisors to Watch” list and the only two honorees in Ohio.

Andy starts the conversation with a simple observation from an all-Ohio Financial Planning Association symposium: the room looks different than it did years ago. Jessica shares what it was like attending early FPA meetings when there were far fewer women in wealth management, and how that shift in representation changes who feels welcome.  Abby adds context on why the profession is still male-dominated, why progress can feel slow, and why it matters that more women are discovering what financial planning really is.

Then we get personal in the best way: kids. From “You work at a computer all day” to “My mommy takes care of people’s money,” we unpack how children absorb our relationship with numbers, work, and responsibility. It’s a reminder that money conversations at home can build confidence early and normalize financial literacy for the next generation.

If you care about women in finance, finding a financial advisor you trust, or building a career in financial planning with real mentorship and culture, this one will land. Subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway.

Meet The Award Winning Advisors

SPEAKER_00

So today I'm joined by two of our rock star advisors, Jessica Haltberg, CFP, and Abby Rose, CFP, CPA, that recently won the 200 Women Advisors to Watch Award. You guys are two of 200, the only two in the state of Ohio. Is that accurate?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. In the whole state, yeah. At least locally. Locally.

SPEAKER_00

We're gonna go with that.

What The Symposium Crowd Revealed

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, locally, yeah. We'll take it. There might be a couple more, but locally definitely just nowhere in the near vicinity of Columbus.

From Intimidated To Leading The Room

SPEAKER_00

So all of us attended a symposium last last week or two weeks ago. The Financial Planning Association of Central Ohio, in conjunction with a couple other chapters in the state, had an all-Ohio symposium. And as we were getting started in the morning, Jessica made a comment about something she noticed in the audience. Jessica, what was that?

SPEAKER_02

So I joined FPA when I started with Keeler Nadler 14 years ago.

SPEAKER_00

SPEAKER_02

And it was there were not very many women going to the FPA meetings. So I definitely, I mean, it was a male-driven business for sure. And so I would feel a little bit intimidated and uncomfortable when I would go to these meetings. And I think it's really cool to see over the years how many more women are at the meetings and especially at the FPA symposium.

SPEAKER_00

And now you're doing the intimidating.

SPEAKER_02

Correct.

Why More Women Join Planning

SPEAKER_00

Because you're a rock star CFP, uh, one of two, and both of you are members of Keeler and Nadler. Um, so pretty, pretty cool, cool stuff there. So, Abby, what are your thoughts on being one of 200?

SPEAKER_01

It was really cool. I wasn't expecting it, which was really fun. Um, it was nice to be nominated. That's already like an honor in and of itself. So to make the list is really sweet. Um, but yeah, like Jess said, I mean, we're such a male-dominated industry. Even now, we're still predominantly male. I mean, I think at one of the FPA meetings they said it's maybe gone up like 3% more female than when we first started. But the fact that I think more women are just getting involved in financial planning, understanding what financial planning is, and we can do hard stuff too. You know, us women can do a lot of fun stuff too, and we're we're smart cookies too.

Kids Notice What Money Work Means

SPEAKER_00

So that's a great attitude. I've always told women that join the firm, you know, you you set your own limitations. Um, so I I tell this story often. Um, my father, my father's father left him when he was seven, eight years old, and he was raised by his mom, his sister, and his aunt. And so growing up with three sisters, three older sisters, um, you know, we always always held them in the highest esteem. And frankly, they were higher achievers than all the boys. Um, better grades, stayed out of trouble, um, and have been highly successful in their careers and their families.

SPEAKER_01

Recently, my five-year-old, five and a half-year-old, told me she wanted to do what I'd what I'd do when she gets older, and it was the cutest. Granted, she has no idea what I do when I asked her, what do you think mommy does? She said, You work at a computer all day. And I was like, We'll go with it. I mean, I'm around my computer most of the day, but it's cool to like teach younger kids too. And I try to explain to her that I work with numbers and math, and she's like, Well, I like math. So it was really that makes it even more heartwarming.

Trust Culture And A Grateful Close

SPEAKER_02

Well, I'll have to piggyback on that. Um, I have a six-year-old daughter, and it you'll you've pro people probably know that they'll send little questionnaires to the kids and say, How old is mommy? What's mommy's favorite thing? And and they say, What does mommy do for work? And and Parker said, My mommy takes care of people's money. Oh, and I think it's really cool to hear her say that because I tell her the different things that I do at work and different experiences, and for her, for that to be the takeaway, is really cool to hear. Financial advising is a relationship-driven business, so the recognition really reflects the the trust that clients put in us. And we have a really great team that we work with here, and we've got built a really good culture. Um, I like I said, I've been here for 14 years, but I've been advising for 11 years, and I've been here for that long for a reason. And it again is the people that are here and support all of us.

SPEAKER_01

I know this is about Jessica and I, but we wouldn't be where we were today without you guys. So that means a lot. Yeah, yeah. You guys raised us to be what we are too. Exactly. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I'm happy to call you two co-workers. I say that I work with you. You don't work for me. Um, and I'm just happy that you received this much deserved award. Um, you know, I try to show you guys every day how much we appreciate you, but to be recognized nationally for your accomplishments is huge. So thanks for taking time out of your day for us. Appreciate it.

SPEAKER_01

We appreciate you. Yep.
