Catholicism 101: Forever Learning and Living the Faith
Learning the Catholic Faith is a lifelong process. For many of us, it may have had a rocky start from a lack-luster classroom experience, being a disinterested student, or a lack of exposure to the teachings of the Faith. Catholicism 101 is here to fill in the gaps from your Religious Education experience as well as serve as an aid in your lifelong learning of the Faith. Not only will we talk about WHAT the Church teaches, but WHY she teaches it. Hopefully along the way we will find ourselves falling deeper into the heart of Christ as we learn more about His heart for us.
"Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope." 1 Peter 3:15

Hi friends, my name is Emily Gibson, and I am the director of Catechetical Formation and Young Adult Ministry here at St. Mary of the Woods in Whitesville, Kentucky, and I am so excited to host this podcast with you all, Catholicism 101, Forever Learning and Living the Faith. So for learning the Catholic faith is a lifelong process. For many of us, it may have had a rocky start from a lackluster classroom experience, being a disinterested student, or a lack of exposure to the teachings of the faith. Catholicism 101 is here to fill in the gaps from your religious education experience as well as serve as an aid in your lifelong learning of the faith. Not only will we talk about what the church teaches, but why she teaches it. Hopefully, along the way, we will find ourselves falling deeper into the heart of Christ as we learn more about his heart for us. So whether or not you grew up Catholic, you've converted, or you're not even Catholic, but just curious, this podcast is for you. I also have a question box set up that will be linked in each episode and in the podcast description where you can submit questions to be answered periodically on a show. And since this is first and foremost an educational podcast, I figured I should probably give you my credentials in progress that I've that kind of give me some backing for the content I'm going to be sharing with you all. So I am currently an online student at Franciscan University of Steubenville, where I am about halfway through my master's in theology and Christian ministry program. I would even love to get my doctorate in theology, but we'll see what the Lord says and does in these next few years. On top of an MAT program, an MAT program through Franciscan, I am also a student of the Theology of the Body Institute in the process of earning certification to teach Theology of the Body and Catholic Sexual Ethics. And that is through Christopher West and the Theology of the Body Institute and Coryville, Pennsylvania. And I just cannot wait to help you encounter the Lord by learning more about him. But most especially, I pray that what you learn does not remain in your head, but that it moves your heart closer to the Lord. And as we prepare uh for this first episode, I wanted to leave you all with a verse from 1 Peter chapter 3. It's verse 15. And Peter says, always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.
