Val Wawrosz
Val Wawrosz spent more than two decades inside the British prison system as a senior prison officer, most of it at HMP Leeds, watching the same faces return again and again. In 2014 he and fellow officer Steve Freer decided to do something about it, co-founding Tempus Novo, Latin for "a new time," a charity that helps people with criminal convictions move into real, sustainable employment.
As co-founder and Managing Director, Val has helped place more than 1,400 people into work, built on a simple but radical belief: that many of those written off by society were never failing a fair race, they were never allowed to start one. His work has earned national recognition, including a Centre for Social Justice Award, and is now drawing interest from employers and governments well beyond the UK.
