God's Chosen Vessel, handpicked by God (Mother Nellie Davis Home going service)
Title: God’s Chosen Vessel hand-picked by God
2 Timothy 2:20-21 - But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
Introduction
- Paul compares God’s kingdom (or the church) to a great house.
- Inside this house are many kinds of vessels (containers, utensils, or instruments). Some are made of gold and silver (precious, valuable, honorable), while others are wood and clay (ordinary, common, less durable).
- These vessels symbolize people in the church. Some choose to live in such a way that brings honor to God, while others live in ways that bring dishonor.
· When God wanted started the race, He used Adam
· When God wanted to Bless the race, He used Abraham
· When God wanted to Lead the race, He used Moses
· When God wanted to Build an Ark to save the race, He used Noah
· When God wanted a visionary for the race, He used Isaiah
· When God wanted a fighter for the race, He used Samson
· When God wanted a Weeper for the race, He used Jeremiah
· When God wanted someone to baptize the race, He used John the Baptist
· When God wanted to give Wisdom for the race He used Solomon
· When God wanted someone to die, He came himself as Jesus Christ
· When God wanted to show the world how to live a holy and sanctified life He used Mother Nellie Davis.
Every believer has the choice to be a vessel of honor or dishonor. A vessel of honor is clean, set apart, and useful to the Master. A vessel of dishonor might still exist in the house, but it is not fit for noble use. The difference lies in obedience, purity, humility, and submission to God’s will.
We live in a time where sanctification in most church is no longer taught. If you teach holiness people leave the church and find one that allows them to do whatever you want to do. That why many people have been turned out from God because why should I go to church when I see people in the church doing some of the same things they are doing. Having sex outside of marriage, drinking, smoking, gambling lying, clubbing. Many of the wood vessel serve in the church as Leaders.
But that should not be our excuse for not serving God.
That why everyone has to keep your eyes on Jesus and not on people. Hebrews 12:2 - looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Matthew 13:30 - Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
Verse 21 – Becoming a Vessel of Honor
- Paul says that if a person purges himself from these Wood and clay (separates from sinful behaviors, false teaching, dishonorable practices), he or she can become a vessel of honor.
- Such a vessel is:
1. Sanctified – Set apart for God’s special use.
2. Meet for the Master’s use – Useful and ready whenever God needs them.
3. Prepared unto every good work – Equipped and willing to serve God in any assignment.
