Women In... Episode 55: Keanah Smith - The only black woman in many rooms + working in college atheletics
Keanah Smith joined the Western Michigan athletic department in August of 2018 as a Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator.
Currently, she oversees most of the internal operations which include facilities management, information technology, event management, capital projects, administrative policies, strategic planning and sport oversight.
Further, she is the sport administrator for Women’s Basketball, Women’s Gymnastics, Women’s Tennis and Football operations.
Additionally, she is the chair of the Mid-American Conference Senior Administrator group and serves or has served on various national, university and professional organizations committees and boards.
Prior to her time at WMU, Keanah was the
- Senior Associate Commissioner, Championships, Mountain West Conference for 2 years.
- She spent 10 years at Miami University (OH) as Chief Operations Officer, Associate & Assistant Athletic Director.
- 9 years in championships at the NCAA and Conference USA,
- 2 years in academic services for student-athletes at Appalachian State
- And started her careering working in Community relations for the Indiana Pacers and as a Graduate assistant for men’s basketball at Miami University (OH)
