Echoes of Eden
What if a single decision could alter the course of history? In this episode of Real Life Ministries, we embark on a profound exploration of Genesis Chapter 3 and the monumental choice made by Adam and Eve. Their decision to eat the forbidden fruit, influenced by the serpent's deceit, not only marks the infamous Fall but also sets the stage for the enduring struggle between sin and redemption. We'll reflect on the ramifications of our own choices and how they reverberate through time, affecting not just ourselves but generations to come. By examining this pivotal biblical moment, we aim to inspire you to make choices rooted in faith and guided by the promise of salvation offered through Jesus Christ.
The second chapter of our discussion invites you to consider the most significant decision you can make: embracing God's grace through Jesus. By acknowledging our sins and accepting Christ's sacrifice, we open the door to transformative change and eternal life. This choice stands in stark contrast to the seemingly trivial decisions of daily life, yet its impact is immeasurable. We draw parallels between the story of Adam and Eve and our own lives, urging you not to delay in seizing the opportunity for redemption. As we close, we prepare to delve into the story of Noah, exploring its timeless relevance and lessons that continue to resonate. Join us in this journey of faith, guided by the Holy Spirit, as we seek wisdom and strength in choosing the path of righteousness.
Hello and welcome back to Real Life Ministries, where real life people with real life problems discuss the Bible. We're ready for another fantastic podcast today. Again, thank you for sticking with us and listening to all our podcasts as we're working our way through Genesis. Today we're going to be in Chapter 3 as we discuss the Fall, and in my mind, this is one of the darkest days, the darkest hours of humanity right here, and I say it's one of them because you can't say that Jesus dying for our sins on the cross is not at least one of the darkest days in human history. But this day right here is what precipitated that to happen. So they're both kind of tied into each other in a certain way. That just unfortunately, just affects all of humanity and it's it's just very sad and it's a very sad day. And one thing I want us to notice as we go through this is it's it's about a choice. You know we all have choices in life. We all make different choices. I've made bad choices, everybody's made some wrong choices. We've made mistakes all in our life and Unfortunately, when we're doing those things, we don't step back and see the big picture and see the ramifications, the consequences. What could happen if the choices we make are the wrong choices. We don't, we don't even realize how much those choices are going to affect us, much less the people we love, people we don't even know it could affect for generations and generations to come, as we're going to see today, that that choice that Adam and Eve made on that very single day, that one choice, has affected every person in history. It has touched everybody. Unfortunately, the the sin curse has affected the earth. It's affected people, it's affected animals, it's affected, you know, trees, plants, it's affected everything in our world and the only way that we could correct that is by another choice. Now, the choice that had to be made to save what happened is so unfortunate and that's why I say they're so tied together because in effectually, someone had to die to take away the sins of the world and we all have that option to make that choice, to choose Jesus. And I pray that you do, and I pray that you come to know Jesus more as we go through these podcasts and I pray that you are led by the Spirit to make a decision in your heart to become sanctified in this life so we can all be resurrected in the next.
Speaker 1:Why don't we pray before we begin this. Dear Heavenly Father. Lord, thank you for this day, thank you for all you do. Lord, you're an amazing and awesome God. We really just can't fathom your love and what you've done for us as putting your son up on that cross just because of one simple decision that two people made. Lord and Lord, we just thank you for that. We thank you for always being prepared for whatever comes your way. We know that you know everything, that you have everything in control and that there's nothing that's outside of your realm of control. Lord, we just thank you for that. And, lord, we just pray for all the people that are listening that hopefully they come to know you better through this Lord, and that you're glorified In Jesus' name. We pray amen.
Speaker 1:Now we're going to dive straight into chapter 3. It says the serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made One day. He asked the woman did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden? Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden. The woman replied it's only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said you must not eat it or even touch it. If you do, you will die. You won't die. The serpent replied to the woman. God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil. So the woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it, and she gave some to her husband, who was with her and ate it too. At that moment, their eyes were open and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.
Speaker 1:Now, again this, this goes back to making choices. You know, know the we can step back in hindsight 2020, and we can say a lot of different things about if we were in this situation, if we were in that situation, but we can all say that we've been in situations in our own lives where we didn't think about the consequences. We were listening to maybe you know bad counsel. We were not listening to the wisdom of God. We didn't know God, maybe at the time, and we were making decisions based off of worldly flesh decisions. So there's a lot of different things that we do in this life.
Speaker 1:However, this was one major, major decision that was made on this fateful day. It caused the first death. It transmitted the sin curse to the earth. The transmitted the sin curse to animals. The transmitted the sin curse down through the generations of humans. It has affected all of humanity in all of history and it will continue to affect all of humanity until the day the Lord sends Jesus back here to claim his bride. And even at that point, during the millennium, there are still people that will not believe, while Jesus is here on this earth reigning as king.
Speaker 1:Now, I know that's a little unbelievable, but I mean, look at this. These people were in the Garden of Eden that God provided for them. They walked, they talked with God, they had a relationship with him, they knew him, and then here comes along this serpent. And what I find strange as I look at this is that this is just some random serpent that just starts talking and is like if you eat of that tree, it's not going to do anything, even though God said that it would. But how do they know this serpent well enough to make an informed decision? Why aren't they listening to God in this decision? Why are they listening to some random animal that they don't even know? There's a lot of weird things that are going on here, and we can sit and pick this apart all day long, but unfortunately, what's happened is these people made this choice and Adam and Eve is transmitted to send down to everybody, and they never realized how far-reaching of a consequence that their decision was.
Speaker 1:It's just like with us. We make decisions all throughout our lives. We choose to go left when we should have gone right. We choose to go straight when we should have backed up. You know, the Bible states that God always provides you a way out of different situations. And you know, sometimes we don't see it, sometimes we don't find it. Sometimes we're so caught up in our own emotions or our own lives that we're not even looking at all the choices that could be around there, and sometimes we're having to make split decisions based on the situation at hand, and and then we just make a wrong one, and not only does it affect us, but it can affect our children, it can affect our wives, it can affect our friends, it can even affect wives. It can affect our friends, it can even affect generations of our family that are not even born.
Speaker 1:With some of the decisions that we make, you know, as as husbands and wives come together and they married and they have children and say they split up and they get a divorce, well, that choice of getting a divorce has such an effect on the family line that it then splits the family apart, and then sometimes people remarry with different people and then you have different children with different people. So there's a lot of different confusion and mixture all in that, and so there's a lot of different things, like people going to jail, men not being there for their children because they made piss, poor decisions in their lives, they end up in jail. They're not there to raise their children. Well then, their children, you know, are looking for father figures. So then they get involved in gangs or they get involved with the wrong friends and they, they get into drugs and then something happens to them before you know it they end up in jail as well.
Speaker 1:You know, there are many different things that can affect us, but as we look at all of this stuff in life and we look at all the decisions that we make, we must understand that there's a bigger picture out there, and that's something I want us to see as we look at this. You know, the first death was caused by this one decision. There was never death at all in the Garden of Eden. Nothing. People were eating, you know, flowers, herbs, you know and the animals were all herbivores. Everybody lived in harmony. It was a perfect place, and because of this one decision, then the first death occurred, so that God could make the sacrifice of the animal and cover them, because they were ashamed and they were naked.
Speaker 1:Now it is so important for us to understand and learn from what we see in the Bible and be able to apply it to our everyday lives, because we leave the house every day, we go home every day. There are decisions throughout our day, as we work, as we play, as we visit different people that we don't think are that big of a deal, and yet we need to put some thought into our lives. We need to put some thought into where we're going, why we're doing it, what are we doing, how are we doing it? We just don't need to walk around here like zombies, not paying attention to what's going on in our world, and understand just exactly the decisions we're making and why we're making them. Are we making them based on wise counsel? Are we making them based on the Word of God or are we making them on worldly decisions? Are we making them on the fleshly decisions? We cannot continue to go through this world and do this thing. There is so much sin. There's so much go through this world and do this thing. There is so much sin. There's so much corruption in this world. There are so many different things going on in this world right now. It is just unreal and unfortunately, this is what god has told us is going to happen because of the decision right here, chapter three, as we look at verses 1 through 7, you know the.
Speaker 1:The fall of man, like I said at the beginning of this podcast, was one of the darkest days in human history, second only to what I think is having a sinless man put up on a cross for the sins that we have done. You know, and we we all think we're good people. We all think that you know, oh, we don't, we're not that bad, we don't do this, we don't do that, but yet we're still sinners and we need to understand that. We need to realize that and we need to understand that, with the decisions that we're making, that there is one very important decision that we need to make. God offers us a way out of being a sinner. Not everybody sees it all the time, not everybody knows about it, some people reject it, some people think they don't need it, but he offers us a way out of our sinful lives that are going to end end up killing us and putting us in a spiritual death which is separated from God for eternity. He offers that freely.
Speaker 1:And the biggest decision of your life that you can make, the biggest choice that you'll ever make, is to accept that grace from God when he put his son on that cross and he died for all of your sins. Accept that, accept the fact that you're a sinner. Don't be too prideful to say that you're a sinner. Humble yourself, realize there is sin in your life, there are things that need to be changed in your life, and make that biggest decision that you'll ever make in your life. It will not only affect your life, it could affect your family's life and it could even affect generations of your family's lives all the way down the line, because when you do that, you can then pass that along and down the line. Maybe not everybody in your family will follow in your footsteps, but there will be people in your family that will follow in your footsteps and it is the most important decision anyone could make in their whole lives.
Speaker 1:And I just pray that people come to understand. You know, people fret over buying cars, they fret over buying houses, they fret over what job to take, what college to go to, and they think these are the biggest decisions in their lives what college to go to and they think these are the biggest decisions in their lives. And yet they don't put a lot of thought into their spiritual life and realize that ultimately none of this matters. If we don't make that big decision in our life to choose to believe in Jesus Christ, repent from our sins, have faith that he died on the cross for our sins, rose on the third day and is sitting down at the right hand of the Father in heaven waiting for us, then you know it's unfortunate, it is so sad, just like it is sad for Adam and Eve when they made that decision that they did, and it affected every human being in history and even in history to come.
Speaker 1:And you know, I just want you guys to take away from this that as we go through life and we're making choices and we're going through our daily tasks, or we're going to the grocery store, or we're doing this or we're doing that, you know you could be driving down the road and there'd be a yellow light and you run through it and have an accident. You're in the hospital. Well, that not only affects you. Then you're out of work, it affects your family. You know it could really hurt you. I mean, there are some simple little things you don't put on your seatbelt, you're just running down to the store, you get in an accident, you get hurt. I mean simple little decisions, everyday decisions that we just don't even think about, that could really and truthfully not only hurt us but hurt everybody that we love and people we don't even know, possibly.
Speaker 1:So I want you to take away from this Don't be afraid to make the biggest choice you'll ever make in your life and follow Jesus. It is the most important decision you'll ever make in your life. Just like Adam and Eve, they made one of the most important decisions that they ever made in their lives and unfortunately it was a bad one. Well, god is offering you a good one. You know he's, he's, there's nothing. He has nothing in return except for you to understand that his son. He put his son on the cross. You're a sinner. He put his son on the cross for you. His son had to die for you, even though he said, lived a sinless life. You know, and he's waiting for you arms open. So please make that decision today. Don't wait. Anything can happen, lord. I just pray today that people hear and understand just the enormity of this decision that we've talked about today. Lord and Lord, I just pray that people hear the Holy Spirit and Lord, that they give in to that Lord, that they don't fight it any longer. They just come to you as you're waiting with open arms and they find your love and grace. In Jesus' name, I pray and listen.
Speaker 1:I want to thank you guys for listening to another wonderful podcast as we're working our way through Genesis. Next time we're going to be talking about Noah. We're going to see what was going on at that time. I want to discuss some things, because it can be very hard to believe what happened with Noah and different things. But I also want to visit how Jesus even referred to Noah as when he would be coming back and different things at that time in the New Testament. So I hope you come back next time Again. We'll be with Noah and we'll talk about that and we'll keep doing real life together. Thank you again.
