Creating Change Through True Choice

Speaker 1

I'm tired of feeling stuck. I seem to get so far with my goals and then BAM Repeated past patterns, even though I'm trying to fix this and escape completely. That was a message I received from one of my community members who felt like life was going great, but one thing happened and everything around her came tumbling down. She felt powerless to get her life back on track again. Has that ever happened to you?

Speaker 1

Today's episode is about the fundamentals of making change. It's a juicy one, with all the cool concepts we teach in our paid programs, so I hope you get value and at least one tip to take away. So let's get started. If there was a guarantee that you could create your dream life, a life that truly mattered to you, would you want it? My name is Terri-Ann Palmer-Peacock and I am delighted to welcome you to the One Person Podcast. I have a belief that one person can make a difference in the world. When we show up as the best version of ourselves, when we create and live our dream lives, we make a positive impact on ourselves and the world around us. So if simple, actionable, step-by-step strategies, tools and tips on how to do that inspires you, then you are in the right place, my friend. So let's get started.

Speaker 1

One of the most challenging concepts for people to grasp and fully understand is this you become what you think about all day long. But here's where it gets more complex. What you think about is not necessarily what you want. If your mind is focused on what you don't want, on what you dislike or resist, you'll continue to manifest those very things into your life. Now what Doug and I teach is a concept around creative power and manifestation. We focus on the idea of a true choice and the role that creative tension plays in guiding our actions. So if, all day long, your thoughts are about how much you hate being overweight or how much you fear being stuck in a financial rut, then you're creating from a place of resistance and limitation. You're not focusing on a true choice. You're stuck in what we call a problem orientation. So, for example, let's say you're constantly thinking I hate being overweight. If that's where your energy and focus go, your creative power will amplify that resistance. You're not aligned with the vision of being healthy, slim or fit. Instead, you're constantly in resistance, focusing on what you don't want, and what you resist will persist.

Speaker 1

Now here's what most people don't get or avoid at all costs, which is the role tension plays in this space. Most people avoid tension or try to eliminate it, but tension between where you are and where you want to be is the energy that propels creation. Propels creation. When you resist or avoid it, you stay stuck. You can't manifest slim from the thought I hate being fat. Why? Because your attention and energy are focused on hating being fat, not on the vision of being healthy and vibrant. You can only act upon the thoughts you have, and if your thoughts are negative or problem focused, you will unconsciously act upon those you are creating from the problem, not the solution.

Speaker 1

Now, the same principle applies to abundance. You cannot manifest financial success or abundance from the place of I despise being poor, the despising, the hating, the frustration. That is where your creative energy is flowing. Your thoughts are locked into scarcity and that's what will keep showing up in your life. You'll continue to act from a place of despising poverty rather than creating wealth. So what is important here is focusing on vision. What is it that you truly want to create? And I'm not just talking about a superficial desire, but a deep, resonant choice that aligns with your higher self.

Speaker 1

Now, the real problem here is that most people are focused on what has always been. They look at their past, their history, and they say, well, it's always been this way, so how can I possibly change it? They are stuck in what we call a problem-solving mentality rather than a creative orientation. They're using the past as evidence for why they can't create a new future. But the past only repeats itself if you keep your attention on it. Do you know what? It's? A vicious cycle? You think about how things have always been, you focus on your frustrations, your limitations and what you don't want, and then, unsurprisingly, those things continue to show up in your life the same patterns, the same issues, the same frustrations. Because, as both Doug and I teach in our communities, where your attention goes, energy flows.

Speaker 1

Now this brings me to a critical concept I mentioned earlier, which is creative tension. So creative tension is the gap between where you are now your current reality and where you want to be your vision. Now, most people feel uncomfortable with this tension because it highlights the discrepancy between their current state and their desired state. They feel the pressure of this gap and they try to avoid it or solve it by focusing on the immediate problems, but that's where they go wrong. Instead of you using that tension as fuel to drive them towards their vision, they waste it on problem solving and fixing what's wrong in the present. Now, the momentum method I teach at the start of every year is all about shifting out of this problem orientated thinking and into a creative orientation. So, instead of thinking I don't want to be poor, the focus needs to shift to I am creating wealth and abundance. Now, the shift might seem subtle, but it's incredibly powerful. You see, when you focus on what you truly choose to create, you harness the creative tension between your current reality and your vision, and that tension becomes the driving force for change, propelling you towards your goals.

Speaker 1

Now here's another layer to this. Even if you're angry about how things have always been, or even if you hate your current situation, if your thoughts remain on how angry you are about your past, then guess what? Your past will continue to show up. You will continue to manifest more of the same, because anger, frustration and resistance are still keeping your energy tied to the problem. Now that's where a true choice comes in, because a true choice is not about fixing a problem. It's not about focusing on what you don't want. A true choice is aligned with your highest vision, what you truly desire to create, from a place of love, joy and expansion. It's about choosing from a place of power, not from lack or limitation.

Speaker 1

William Whitecloud he's the author of Secrets of Natural Success. He emphasizes a similar principle when he talks about aligning with your higher self and your true nature. He says if you're making choices based on fear, scarcity or resistance, those choices are not aligned with your higher self, they are reactive, not creative, and you'll continue to create more of the same frustrations. But when you make choices from a place of true alignment, connected to your vision and purpose, that's when real transformation happens. So let's look at an example of this in action.

Speaker 1

There was a woman who had been struggling with her weight for years Now. She tried every diet, every exercise program, but nothing seemed to work. Her thoughts were always on how much she hated being overweight, how frustrated she was with her body, how tired she was of carrying that extra weight. And then one day her 10-year-old daughter came home with a friend and the friend whispered I didn't know, your mummy was fat. Well, that comment hurt her like a ton of bricks. It was a wake-up call. But here's the key what she did next was not just about reacting to the problem. She didn't just say I need to lose weight because I hate being fat, and that was really embarrassing. Instead, she made a true choice. She shifted her focus away from what she didn't want and onto what she truly desired, which was to feel healthy, vibrant and strong. She connected with that vision on a deep level and suddenly the weight started to come off. She wasn't focused on the problem anymore. She was aligned with her true choice.

Speaker 1

So this story illustrates what I share with my clients when I say you need to rewrite your agreement with reality. You see, most people are living out of a set of beliefs and agreements that have been programmed into them by their environment or their family and their society. They believe that their limitations are real, because that's what they've always been told. But these limitations are just agreements. They're not the truth. And when you rewrite your agreement with reality, you start to see that anything is possible and you start to align with your true choices rather than the stories you've been told about what you can or can't do. And this is a core teaching of all our programs, because your creative power is limitless, but only if you let go of the limiting beliefs and stories that are holding you back.

Speaker 1

Now, one way to think about this is through the metaphor of walking down a street and encountering a deep hole in the sidewalk. In fact, there's a well-known poem by Portia Nelson that describes this perfectly. So in the first chapter she walks down the street, falls into the hole and feels helpless it's not her fault and it takes her a long time to get out. In the second chapter, she walks down the same street, sees the hole but falls in again. She's still in disbelief that she's in the same place, but it still feels like it's not her fault. Now, in the third chapter, she sees the hole, falls in, but now she knows it's her fault. She gets out quickly. By the fourth chapter she walks around the hole and in the fifth chapter she chooses a different street altogether. Now this poem or metaphor is really powerful because it shows the progression of awareness and choice.

Speaker 1

Most people, like in the first few chapters, are walking down the same street, falling into the same holes and wondering why their life isn't changing. They feel stuck, they feel helpless and they're still blaming external circumstances. But once you become aware of the whole, once you see the pattern, you have the power to choose differently. You don't have to keep falling into the same trap. You can walk around it and eventually you can choose an entirely different path. So choosing a different street is the ultimate act of creative power. You're no longer reacting to the same old problems. You're creating a new reality from a place of vision, purpose and alignment.

Speaker 1

But here's the catch you also can't create from a place of doubt. Now imagine this in your dream state. You don't question whether you can fly or whether you can bring something to you by simply thinking about it. You just do it. When you're dreaming, there's no doubt in the dream state. But when you wake up and return to your waking life, that's when doubt creeps in, and that doubt is what blocks your creative power. The moment you introduce doubt into your creative process, you sabotage the manifestation of your vision. So doubt is like a poison that contaminates the pure energy of your true choice. And just like the dream state, there's no limitations, because you're not doubting your ability to create. You just do it. But in waking life, we've been conditioned to believe in limitations, and those beliefs create doubt, which in turn limit what we can create. So doubt disconnects you from your power to create, because if you don't fully believe in what you're choosing, you'll hesitate, you'll second guess yourself and you'll ultimately fail to take aligned action. This is why it's so critical to not only focus on what you truly want, but also to fully trust in your capacity to bring it into being. You know there's no room for half-hearted belief in this process. You must be all in.

Speaker 1

Now let me tie this back to the idea of creative tension, because, remember, creative tension is the gap between where you are and where you want to be Now. That gap can feel uncomfortable because it highlights what you don't yet have, but instead of being discouraged by it, you need to embrace it. You see, this tension is a natural part of the creative process. It's what propels you forward. Without it, there's no energy driving you to create.

Speaker 1

But what most people do is they misinterpret that tension as a problem or something to be solved, and they get stuck in the frustration of not being there yet. For instance, someone might say I want to be financially free, but I'm so tired of being in debt. For instance, someone might say I want to be financially free, but I'm so tired of being in debt, and what they're really focusing on is their debt, their frustration with their current reality, rather than focusing on the vision of financial freedom. They're caught in the problem, not the solution. In this state, the creative tension is being wasted on worrying and stressing about the current situation, instead of being directed towards creating a new reality. You see, when you make a true choice, whether it's financial freedom, whether it's health or a fulfilling relationship, you have to stay focused on that vision without getting pulled back into problem solving. Problem solving is a trap because it keeps you focused on fixing what's wrong instead of creating what you want. And the more you focus on problems, the more problems you will create.

Speaker 1

So let's talk about rewriting your agreement, then, with reality. So your current reality is not fixed. It's a reflection of your past thoughts, your past beliefs and your past actions. So if you keep thinking the same thoughts and reacting in the same ways, you'll keep creating the same reality. So we know to change your life, you have to change the way you see yourself and the world, and this means letting go of the old agreements you've made, whether they're about money, health, relationships or success and you need to create new ones based on your true choices. So think about it like this Every time you make a choice, you are creating a new agreement with reality. If you choose to believe that you are capable of creating wealth, that becomes your new agreement. If you choose to believe that you are capable of creating wealth, that becomes your new agreement. If you choose to believe that you can be healthy and fit, that becomes your new agreement. But if you're still operating from the old agreements, like I've always been poor or I've always struggled with my weight, then those old agreements will continue to shape your reality.

Speaker 1

So the key, obviously, is to stay connected to your vision and to trust the process. You don't need to know how it's going to happen, you just need to stay in alignment with your choice. Now, this is a critical point, because so many people get stuck in trying to figure out the how they want to control every step of the process and and when things don't go according to plan, they get discouraged and give up. But the truth is, you don't need to know all the details. You know driving home from school today, my son has his rowing skills trials this weekend and he mentioned he didn't know what conditions he was hoping for.

Speaker 1

He said a tailwind suits, lighter paddlers like me because we go faster than the heavy guys. But a headwind suits the heavy guys because they can use their power to row faster, and flat water means those who can't scull well will get better times than they would normally Then if they were in rough water. We have to have good balance. Mom, I don't know what conditions I want to ask the universe for, and I reminded him the conditions were out of his control. That's him trying to control the weather and take over some of the how from the universe. You just need to stay focused on your vision. What's the end result you want and how would you know you'd achieved it? So he said he'd be looking at the time spreadsheet and he'd have the fifth fastest time. I said all you can do is take aligned action between now and Saturday, which is doing everything to the best of your ability and focusing on the end result you want. Then trust that the universe has your back. It'll bring the right opportunities, the resources and people into your life to support your creation. The right conditions for the outcome you want to achieve will appear on the day.

Speaker 1

And this ties into one last concept I want to share with you, called the art of surrender. So surrender doesn't mean giving up on your dreams or desires. It means letting go of the need to control every aspect of the process. It means trusting that the creative intelligence of the universe is working with you and that things are unfolding in the perfect way, even if it doesn't look like it in the moment.

Speaker 1

Now there's a beautiful story that illustrates this point. It's about a man who goes to sleep one night and dreams that he's in heaven, and in his dream he picks a strange and wonderful flower. And when he wakes up, he finds that he's in heaven. And in his dream he picks a strange and wonderful flower. And when he wakes up, he finds that he's still holding the flower in his hand. Now this story is a metaphor for the power of belief and creative intention. If you believe in your dream, if you believe in your vision and you hold on to it with unwavering faith, then that vision will manifest in your waking life. But if you introduce even a tiny bit of doubt, that doubt will contaminate the process. It's like planting a seed and then constantly digging it up to see if it's growing. The seed needs time and space to grow, and so does your vision grow, and so does your vision. You have to trust that the universe is working behind the scenes, even when you can't see immediate results.

Speaker 1

Now, the journey of creation. It's not always easy. There will be challenges, resistance and moments of doubt, but those moments are part of the process. They are opportunities for growth and alignment. When you encounter resistance, it's not a sign to give up. It's a sign to deepen your commitment to your vision. So, with that being said, what is one true choice you want to create? I invite you to think deeply about something you would love to bring into existence. Voice it out loud, because when we voice our deepest desires, even just to ourselves, we ground them into reality, making them just that little bit more real. So that's our episode for this week. If you enjoyed it, then please share it with a friend, or, if you have a minute spare and feel inspired, leave me a review. I'd love to read your thoughts. So, until next week, take care and remember to hold that vision and faith. You are always more powerful than you think.
