And welcome, welcome, welcome, everybody to another episode of Real Talk. Doc, you doing alright today.
Speaker 2:Yes, I am brother. Yes, I am. We're, extremely blessed tonight. Yes, Absolutely.
Speaker 1:So obviously, this is the draft. This is Doc's his wheelhouse, his home. He loves it. We do it all all the time, all day Always talking about draft prospects, and we had three great days of the draft, all day always talking about draft prospects. And you know, we had three great days of the draft. Uh, if you, if you're some players, you had, you had great days. If you're other players, you know, you probably uh wet the bed a little bit just waiting on your name getting called. But, uh, none, nonetheless, three great days. And we have a great guest that joins us. Uh, today. He's a huge Patriots fan. You hear him all the time on uh shine Sports Radio, always talking about the weather first and then he'll get to his point and talk about his Patriots. So B Curms in New Jersey, the best pound-for-pound tweeter I think he lost his title, but the best pound-for-pound tweeter in the 20-year history of Shine On Sports joins us. So how you doing, curms?
Speaker 3:I'm doing good. I still have that title, as far as I know okay, all right that's right, brother.
Speaker 2:Welcome aboard b cairns.
Speaker 3:We love you, man thank you for that knowledge.
Speaker 1:I appreciate it all right, and then curms. I know you listen to every single episode. We are almost at episode 50. I know you've listened in every single episode that we've had. Uh, so um, we have a segment where doc likes to get it off his chest. So, without further ado, doc, go ahead and get it off your chest.
Speaker 2:Well, this thing has been brewing for three days now. It's an absolute disgrace the way Shadurah Sanders, deion Sanders, has been treated. You know, through the media and through the NFL hierarchy. Man, this guy threw for 4,138 yards last year for a terrible team that had no offensive line help. He had 38 touchdowns and you can't tell me for one minute, gentlemen and for the people listening, that Jalen Milrow, tyler Schonk out of Louisville and also Jackson Dart were much better than what, you know, shadoua Sanders put up. It's an absolute disgrace, man, I thought we were done with the 60s, 70s and if it does sound like a racist thing, I think so, you know, because it's one of those things where you've never seen this before. You've got a Hall of Famer, michael Irvin. You've got a great you know TV personality, stephen A Smith, saying that this is the first time in a quarterback-driven league where a guy with numbers like that that I just referenced gets pushed to the fifth round based on hearsay and allegedly poor.
Speaker 2:You know interview process and the draft process. A lot of people don't perform at the NFL Skyline. Come by, you know, and it's one of those things where you know what I'm saying. There's a lot of people that didn't like him when he played, so they messed with his seed man. You know, this guy has pretty good arm strength. I'm going to say he has Elway-esque or Bartkowski-esque arm talent, but I've seen him throw the out pattern. I've seen him throw the deep ball. You know, to Travis Hunter and the other receivers they had so to say that this is because he had a poor interview sessions and all that. Just look at the tape.
Speaker 2:Jalen Monroe came here from a side of a barn. You know he has good speed as a runner, but it's one of those things where I saw Jackson Dart perform. He fell apart against Florida and Tennessee. Real bad, you know. And Tyler Shaw, who Shuck or whatever his name is, who the hell is that Fifth round fellas, not second or third, where you can halfway live with it fifth, and it's one of those things where it's a disgrace.
Speaker 2:The hierarchy in the NFL ought to be ashamed. They need to investigate this kind of thing, man, because not everybody is a great interviewer. I don't know what the people was looking for in the interview process. You know he had his earphones on. How many times do you see players have earphones on, you know? Now, granted, it is a job interview and all that, but he had enough leadership to lead this Colorado team from one win to 10 last year, or nine, whatever the case may be. It took a beating, never bitched and complained about taking a beating because of poor offensive line and still put up numbers. So yeah, it's a disgrace and I thoroughly disagree with what transpired. He's hungry, he's going to go around, he's a competitor and he's going to go in there and compete for that. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts by week three, because Joe Flacco is older than me and then B Curms combined Marlon. So there you go right there. That's my case.
Speaker 1:All right, Curms your thoughts.
Speaker 3:You know, I understand. You know where Doc's coming from, as far as the numbers and everything like that. In regards to why he's flying the interview, I obviously don't know the guy. I don't know when people said it was the worst interview I've ever seen, I don't know exactly what that means, to be honest with you, so I don't want to go too deep in regards to that. But if anything, maybe he uses this as a source of inspiration. Hey, I was rejected to be the second or third pick overall. I got picked in the fifth round.
Speaker 3:He's in a situation where I agree with Doc. He can very well start early. I mean, can he pick it? I mean, what has he shown? As Doc said, joe Flacco is older than dirt, so who knows what the hell is going to happen to him. So this gives him an opportunity. Maybe he says you know, I feel like I was disrespected as a prospect. I should have been drafted higher and I'm going to go out and show the league what I can do. And if he does that, I mean this could be one of the better football stories we've heard of in quite some time.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Absolutely, brother, absolutely Good, take on that, because nobody really knows what goes on in those circles in the interview process, but the owners and the general managers.
Speaker 2:But it's still a disgrace for a guy that has decent arm strength, you know, and put up numbers that are otherworldly. He had his number retired because they went from one win just three years ago and now they're in the end. They were raised for a CFP and all of a sudden, you know you can't question his leadership skills. The teams love him, the team loves him, you know. So I don't know. But yeah, continue on, mark, I'm done.
Speaker 1:All right. So my two cents on everything before we go ahead and get to the draft grades. I never thought that he was a first-round talent, but for sure I thought he was going to be taken within the first five picks of the second round. I don't know if the owners ended up getting together saying, hey, we don't like this, we don't like that. Now, mind you, he didn't do himself any favors by his interviews and his pre-draft stock. If you will, no pro day, no combine, all right. Well, you are one of the best quarterbacks, your top three quarterbacks coming out of this league, if not top two quarterbacks. So I understand that.
Speaker 1:But to act as if you are, you know, telling teams where you want to go, you are acting as if you are a lot better than what you are. Um, you know, no, no, as as doc, as you would say, don't get it twisted. Now, this isn't the sec that you played in. So if, if, you're doing all that in the SEC, that's one point. So I personally, me, I did not think that he would come out of the first round, but to fifth. At that point Cleveland got a steal to get that caliber of a quarterback in the fifth round. And then the kid that pranked him. I mean, obviously that sucks. That's unfortunate, but it's either going to be the Giants, the Saints or the Steelers to draft him. The Cleveland will be stupid to draft him in the first round, but it was going to be those three teams that would do it in the first or second or even the third round if you fell that far. But I definitely thought that he should at least have. You know, a quarterback of that caliber doesn't fall to the fifth round.
Speaker 2:Well, eli Manning and Peyton Manning did the same thing when they came out on their respective drafts. You know, peyton said I'm going to kick your ass if you don't draft me all the GMs, you know. And then Eli said I'm just flat out not going to San Diego, you know, and they didn't consider that arrogant or standoffish or whatnot like that. Now, granted, they played in the Southeastern Conference. Pagan was a consistent All-American, but Eli, I don't think he made first team All-SEC that year. He might have, but he certainly wasn't an All-American with the turnover at Ole Miss. So it just goes awash. You know, these prospects have a right to say well, they're not going to. It just happened a few years ago too. But the Manning situation sticks in my craw because nobody called him arrogant or the fathers stepping in and saying, eli, you're not going here, and all that. But for some reason Deion's supposed to be different. They look at Deion a different way. You know where I'm going.
Speaker 1:Absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 1:All right. So we will go ahead and hop into the draft grades we will give I'm sure they have them everything ready for their as far as Doc can be terms for their best draft grades by team. So we will dive into that. So of course I mean the Patriots have to be in the mix. Cleveland, obviously with the steal that they got with Shador, you know, the Seahawks, I'm saying maybe in their two stealers Even the New York football Giants. So, kerms, I'll go ahead and start with you first. If you have five, cool, but give some of your best draft grades. What team did the best over the course of this three days in the NFL draft?
Speaker 3:That's a great question. Honestly, I think a lot of teams did very well in this draft. I can think of five off the top of my head. Obviously, as a Patriots fan, I'm ecstatic at what they did. It was projected they were going to take Will Campbell. I mean, obviously, as a Patriots fan, I'm ecstatic at what they did. You know it was projected they were going to take Will Campbell. I'm glad they did.
Speaker 3:You can make an argument. They may have had the worst offensive line in the NFL and people were saying, oh, you can't take him early because of his short arms. I don't care about his arm length. He protected Jaden Daniels Last time I checked he's doing pretty well and he's protecting Garrett Nussmeier who I just saw on Twitter have like the third best odds of going being the number one pick next year in the NFL draft and I think he's going to be very good at. Doc knows watching him. He's got the size, he's got the arm. He's going to be a really, really good NFL prospect. I mean you add Travion Henderson as a running back. I mean you could make an argument. He's one of the best running backs in the country. The last two to three years you put him with Ramondre Stevenson and you know that helps Drake May for sure. And they add another offensive lineman in the draft, the center from. I think he's from like Florida State or something I can't remember no he went to Georgia.
Speaker 3:Georgia, my bad Doc.
Speaker 2:I apologize, Jerry Wilson. Yeah.
Speaker 3:Yes. And then they added Kyle Williams, the wide receiver from Washington State, who a lot of people thought was a very, very good pick at that spot, because I thought their defense was actually pretty decent. But they had to get playmakers for Drake May and they did that and they're going to help protect him. So I was very, very happy with that. Four other teams I can think of off the top of my head. I've got to be honest. I really love what the Indianapolis Colts did. I thought their first two picks were home runs. Tyler Warren followed them at 14. Was a steal. And, doc, I talked to you about this in the past. Whoever got JT Tuamolo in the second round, I thought was getting one of the best prospects in the draft and you get them at pick number 45, what he did at Ohio State and now going to a very, very winnable division, afc South. I thought that was very, very smart what they did. Doc, I've got to be honest. I love what your Falcons did. How many times have they been saying for years you have to take it to pass rusher? I feel like they've been saying that for the last 10, 15 years. And they got one. They took two. Now you can question whether they gave up too much to get up to get James Pierce. I mean that's obviously we can't. We can say now it's too much to give up, but let's see how good he is. If he turns out to be, you know, miles Garrett or a guy from Dallas or Trey Hendrickson, yeah, it looks great, especially in that division where it looks like it still could be Tampa's to beat right now. But you can make an argument. If that pass rush is better, the Falcons are going to be very, very difficult to beat in that division for years to come, especially if Michael Penix turns out to be as good as advertised.
Speaker 3:Number four I hate to say this but the Philadelphia Eagles, no matter where they are, they always draft. Well. They get the kid Campbell at 31. He was rejected to go as high as maybe eight or nine in the draft. And Howard Roseman. He gave up an extra third rounder just to get up and get one pick. But you watch his tape and you watch him at the combine. The kid can move. There's no ifs, ands or buts. He's got speed, he's got size. So you put him on that line and they're going to just disrupt people. Fifth, off the top of my head. I really like what the Seattle Seahawks did. I think they're trying to recreate that old Legion of Boom. I mean you add Nick Emanwuri in the second round and a lot of people had him go in the first round. I mean, doc, I told you, if you look at him on tape he looks like Sean Taylor.
Speaker 3:He's like 6'2", 6'3" he's just built. I mean you put him back there with Tariq Woolen and Devin Witherspoon. I mean who the hell is going to throw on them in that division? I mean you know, I don't want to be Pook and Nakua going up the middle or Marvin Harrison Jr, you know, on a slant route and you get someone like Amin Wari or Witherspoon up the middle, they're going to knock you out cold. I mean there's obviously other teams that a lot of teams I thought did very well, but off my head those are five that really stuck out to me.
Speaker 2:That was a very good choice there, brother. Yeah, I agree with your Patriots, but I was really happy for you, will Cameron. I'm a Southeastern Conference fan, marlon and B Kern. I liked Will Cameron when he was a freshman, you know. And then a two-time consensus All-American. Nobody cares about the short arms man, he can put them at tackle and he's there for 10 years. And then you mentioned that kid Henderson. Yeah, so I got the Patriots at number two. But guess who one is? One is the Giants. You got to give them props for doing what they did with Abdul Carter and Ed Rush to go opposite Kaymont Thibodeau. And you know it's one of those things where Thibodeau is going to meet his mass potential this third year out of Oregon. I just think that this is a generational talent. You know he might be on the same scale as Micah Parsons, abdul Carter Then he came back and got the quarterback that they wanted, you know. So it's one of those things where you know Judge G man and Dayball is on a hot seat, so he had to. So I got the Giants one and the Patriots two.
Speaker 2:As far as the picks, the Falcons at three. This is the thing, marlon. We needed an edge, as you eloquently said. It's one of those things where Jalen Walker gentlemen this guy is a former five-star recruit you can put him in a box, you can play linebacker, you can put him on the edge and he can play in space. You know he had four and a half sacks in two games against Texas. Then you trade back up to get Pierce, you know, to go with Leonard Floyd as a true edge. You know Pierce ran a 4-4-8 at the combine, you know, and 6-5-2-4-3. You can put some weight on, but he's a Leonard Floyd clone. Then we ended the third round and picked up Xavier Watts, gentlemen, a Notre Dame team captain at safety, to go with Jesse Bates III. I love those top three picks right there. The kid from Oklahoma, he's a good guy as far as developmental, but Xavier Watts is going to make an impact. Those three gentlemen Walker, pierce and Watts are going to make an impact right there in Falcons defense.
Speaker 2:Now, number four I've got to go Chargers it's not because I'm on this host and show. They needed a running back that could go to distance. They picked up Najee Harris and the Steelers. I get that, but Justin Herbert needs a running game like no other In the 17-game season. You picked up Omari Hampton and you can argue he was better, whether it's the kid for the Ashton Gentry or Omari Hampton. But Hampton, this guy is a power guy, ran a 4-4-7, a 4-4-9, something like that. And this guy is a power guy, ran a 4-4-7, a 4-4-9, something like that. And you know Harbaugh's going to love him because he wants to hammer the ball and protect Justin Herbert from the four-interception game in the postseason. You're not going to see that again, I think.
Speaker 2:The Chargers you know they had the fourth-best draft right there. You know, as far as impact this year, and that's just the first round man and I would say the fifth choice, I would say let's go with the Packers. Let's go with the Packers at five because Matthew Golden is the fastest player in the draft of 4-2-1. And remember their stud receiver is coming off an ACL who he suffered in the postseason. This helps out Jordan Love. You know they did some other things later in the draft that I like offensive linemen and all that, but the Packers they're my fifth best. You can make an argument for the Raiders at 5A because they desperately need a marquee running back and they got probably the top three or four players in the draft, but I'm sticking to go with. I'm sticking with the Packers. So it's the Giants Patriots Falcons. Number four was, you know, dang skip my mind yeah Chargers. And then number five, the Packers.
Speaker 2:On a side note, the Steelers really screwed this thing up. They still don't have a quarterback and their first-round pick, derek Harmon Marlon and Dee Kearns he's a stud defensive tackle out of Oregon. He probably was the third or fourth defensive tackle. It was they picked at 21. But you skipped over Shadurah Sanders, not once, twice, but three times. You know you need a young quarterback in the future and we're going to be saying this next year that they need a quarterback, and who knows what Aaron Rodgers is going to do. So that's a little side note there. You know, relative to that, the Steelers, they have a big fan base, both of you know that and they were not happy. They were not happy when they got this defense. I had one of them at my own crib in my command cage. So there you go. It's a side note in the draft. There's a lot of things that we could talk about relative to the draft, but go ahead, marty.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, oh yeah. And I at least thought that they would. Just knowing the uncertainty of Aaron Rodgers, I definitely thought that they would have taken him. And then second round came around and still didn't get him. So I don't know, they must know something and they're putting all their eggs in this basket of. We're going to go ahead and go with Rodgers and we're going to deal with I don't know what backup they sign, but they're just going to roll with that and just see what happens or try to find a free agent. But it doesn't. It makes no sense just from a Steelers standpoint, unless they already know Rodgers is signing. He sense just from a Steelers standpoint, unless they already know Rodgers is signing. He's just waiting to a certain point to sign.
Speaker 1:But also, too, a team that we didn't really talk about, the team that traded up to get Travis Hunter. So, kerms, I'll go ahead and kick it back to you what were your thoughts on the initial trade? And I'll just say this before I ask you that question what were your thoughts on the trade? And just knowing that a team like Cleveland didn't really need him as a corner and kind of wanted him to play corner, but you know, he definitely wanted to play both ways, and he's with a team now that they need help on so many different levels, and it seems as if this person, this guy, this superstar, could bring a lot of success to the Jacksonville Jaguars. So what are your thoughts on the trade, kerms?
Speaker 3:Yeah, honestly, I thought it was a good move for Cleveland because they got to get an extra draft pick for next year. Yes, we can all agree, hunter's a special talent. I mean we talk about Deion Sanders. He's kind of like a Deion Sanders. He plays wide receiver and he plays quarterback.
Speaker 3:The question, you know, if he wants to play as much as he wants to, he wants to play wide receiver, he wants to be on the field all the time. I respect that and I get it. He wants to play all the time. But the problem with that is like he wants to be on the field all the time and you're risking injury, like often. And I mean, is he projected to be like an impact? If he wants to be a wide receiver, is he projected to be an impact receiver right away? Is he going to get 1,000 yards and six, seven touchdowns, 80 catches? Is he going to be more of a slot role? And, with his athleticism too, does he want to play special teams and return punts and stuff like that? I love the fact that he's extremely passionate about the game. He seems like a great guy overall, like you know, great character and everything. God bless him. But yeah, I mean, did Jacksonville give up too much to move up three spots to get him? What are your thoughts on that?
Speaker 2:That's a good point. On that one fellas, I'm not really still sold on Sunshine down there in Jacksonville. He gave him a massive contract but he makes ill-timed mistakes for my liking for that contract. But now you've got a serious weapon at Travis Hunter that he can play on offense and defense. But it remains to be seen with his slight frame he's only 188 pounds. Look at that 17-game regular season on a team that sorely needs his services on both sides. Will he break down by Week 12 or hit the rookie wall playing both ways? I don't know. But he's the best athlete that we've seen in the past. You know 20, 25 years and you know I think they gave up too much. But you've got a marquee talent down there in the Jacksonville Star media market that this guy's going to sell tickets for that particular franchise. But it all goes back to Sunshine, trevor Lawrence. So we'll see how that goes.
Speaker 2:And before we move on Marlon, I got to give a shout out to Chap and New Mexico's Bears. They too had a great draft. I'll give them an A. Also maybe a 5A. They had Colston, loveland, beekers and Marlin. To go with the tight end that they have already, you can run 12 personnel with that to help out the young quarterback. And then you've got Luther Bird in the third, in the second or third round, I forget. But their situation is all about their quarterback and correcting the flaws for Caleb Williams and working on his footwork, and that's why they got Ben Johnson. But Koston and Loveland you can make the argument was on a scale that's better than Tyler Warren or just as equal, and they got him at 10. So good job on that. They already addressed their offensive line, so I just had to throw Champ and New Mexico Bears in there, fellas, go ahead, marlon.
Speaker 1:All right, and I got to talk about my charges really quick before we jump over to the Cowboys. And, as you said, you know Marian Hampton, I definitely did not see us going running back. First I thought we probably would go as tight end receiver. Obviously, you know that's where we need help. But you got to remember we drafted Ladd in the second round, so I know that there's a lot of great talent that was still out there.
Speaker 1:But or I thought we were going to go de-tackle because we lost Puna Ford to the Rams and of course Joey Bosa goes to Buffalo. So I definitely thought that we would at least explore that option. But going running back, I didn't see it because we had Najee Harris. So going running back, then going Trey Harris one of Dart's great weapons, I'm all for that and then we go D-tackle and edge rusher out of South Carolina and then we get another receiver, tight end and O-line and some other weapons. So I felt like we had, for the most part, a decent draft and didn't expect to go the route that we went. But I'm trusting in Harbaugh and Joe Ortiz, so I know exactly what they're doing. All right, so, doc, I'll kick it back to you with the Cowboys. Did you expect them to go offensive line with the help that they need? Did you expect them to go offensive line first in this draft?
Speaker 2:No, I didn't expect that. But by the same token it makes sense because, remember, zach Martin retired they're starting a Pro Bowl right guard and then Tyler Smith, the right tackle he's that injury part. He retired too. So I couldn't see them taking Tyler Booker or another Tyler, but he's massive, 6'4", 352, a road grader type and I fully expected them to, you know, go corner or receiver. They would have did good to take Matthew Golden to help that out. And the other side of CeeDee Lamb.
Speaker 2:But I can see the reasoning there. You know I can't bash the Cowboys with it all when they redid the trenches when two guys on their right side retired. So you know Booker's a plug-and-play guy and he'd be there for 10 years Kid from Alabama man. So you know he's a well-coached. So to answer your question, no, you know I wasn't expecting it, but I had no problem with it. The problem I had they didn't address the running back position relative to the second, third or fourth round. You know Quentin Jenkins, henderson's teammate at Ohio State, or there was some other cats, you know. So what are they going to do with the running back position? But the first round, yeah, they knocked it out of the park because the other two guys retired.
Speaker 1:Yeah, kerms. So do you think you guys did enough? Obviously you guys did enough. Obviously, in free agency with the um, the Patriots, you guys spent a lot of money. You and the Giants, you guys spent the most money. So, with obviously what you guys did there and what you're addressing the drive, is this going to be enough for you to compete with the Jets? I'm not saying beat the Bills, but just compete with the Jets and the Dolphins.
Speaker 3:I really do think they are going to be competitive this year. You know, my concern is I like the Stephon Diggs signing, but he's getting older, he's got some injury history, so the question is, will he be healthy for a whole season? But yeah, against the Jets and the Dolphins. I mean, and if you look at those two teams in the draft, the Jets, I thought, did well with drafting Membu to protect Justin Fields. They've been dressing the offensive line for the last couple of years. But the Jets are the Jets. You just can't trust them no matter what happens. And the Dolphins, again, the Dolphins are the Dolphins. I mean, tua's health is always an issue. They just lost Jaden, an issue. They just lost Jalen. They got rid of Jalen Ramsey. Let me just pull up their draft right now.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 3:And here's the thing they lost. They got rid of Ramsey. They didn't address the quarterback position until the fifth round. So I mean that's a bit of concern for me. If I'm a Dolphin fan, I do like they took Quinn Ewers in the seventh round. Not sure how well he'll be in the NFL, but I mean the guy was a high school recruit, so the guy is obviously talented. And again, like I said, with two as hell you never know what's going to happen. But to answer your question, yes, I think the Patriots will be competitive, not just in the Division League. I don't expect them to make the playoffs, but is it fair to say they can win seven or eight games? I mean schedule comes out in two weeks, but I think it's fair to say yeah, I think they can compete.
Speaker 2:Marlon and B Kerns. I'm sure you both agree there's several teams three-fourths of the teams in the league really helped themselves at a sore knee and a headrest knee. Look at the AFC West, where your team resides, marlon, you got two stud running backs with the Rays and the Chargers. The Kansas City Chiefs got an offensive tackle, which they saw. You saw the Super Bowl and they weren't happy with 74, always jumps offside. And then Denver picked up a corner. You know to go opposite Patrick, sertain, jihard and Barron out of Texas. So the AFC West, in my mind, won as far as a division. They won the draft man. You know all four teams and I just think I got to give them credit where credit's due. I'm not saying those teams are going to catch Kansas City, but they can be competitive with Kelsey. Yeah, yeah, absolutely is going to catch Kansas.
Speaker 1:City, but they can be competitive with Kelsey. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And, kerms, I don't know if you had anything else. Before we get out of here, we're going to talk a little bit of NBA. You got anything else for us before we get you out of here?
Speaker 3:I have to agree with Doc. I thought, overall the AFC West, outside of the Chiefs, I thought the rest of the teams did very, very well to try to catch up to the Chiefs. Like Doc said, they needed to address that offensive line and they did in the first round, but outside of that they didn't really address the first round of the offensive tackle offensive line. And if you look at the rest of the division, like Doc said, I mean the Broncos took Jadé Barron. Some thought he was maybe the best corner in the draft. I mean you put him with Patrick Sertan in that backfield. Who the hell is going to throw deep on them? I mean good luck with that. And Marlon, to the Chargers, you can make an argument. The Chargers might be the best team in the AFC. I mean they really could be.
Speaker 3:When you ask Ajay Harris and O'Marion Hampton, I love what Jim Harbaugh is doing with that team. Now the question is what are they going to do now that they lost Bosa with the pass rush? But I think they're as good as any team in the AFC West. And yeah, doc, we talked about the Raiders. I accidentally left them in my top five. You can make an argument. They had as good as a draft as anybody. I mean they took GAP, they took that kid Beck in the second round who a lot of people said really improved his draft stock from the senior ball. I mean that division is going to be loaded this year and right now I mean, if I had to bake my rankings, I'm putting Kansas City third. I'm putting the Chargers number one. I'm putting the Denver Broncos number two. I love what they're doing.
Speaker 3:The team is developing a lot faster, I think, than a lot of scouts predicted. And Kansas City I mean, you know, do they not make the playoffs this year? A lot of times whoever loses the Super Bowl misses the playoffs. Now I'm not going to turn into conspiracy theory guy and say, because the NFL will make sure the Chiefs don't miss the playoffs, I'm not going to go down that route, but I'm sure it's going to be in the back of my mind. But that division, I mean outside of maybe, yeah, toughest in the NFL, I mean the NFC West is going to be loaded this year. I love what, like I said, I love what Seattle did. Arizona, I mean Will Johnson, the fact that he slipped that ball in the second round, I can't believe it. I know he had an injury, but if you want to talk about playmaking and leadership, he's about as good as there is in the draft. Yeah, I said Arizona 49ers.
Speaker 2:Mike Hill Williams. They needed an edge opposite Bosa, so that's a good point.
Speaker 3:If I can make an argument. We were talking about teams that Chisor Sanders should have gone to. I'm kind of surprised the Niners didn't even consider him, because nothing against Brock Purdy. Do you really want to pay him $50 million a year? After all, they've lost with Devo Samuel, all they've lost with Devo Samuel, and they've lost players on both sides of the line. Nothing against Brock Purdy. I think he's a nice football player, but I would rather we can talk about Shador Sanders. I'd rather take a risk on him and not pay him as much money than pay Brock Purdy $50 million. But that's just my two cents.
Speaker 2:Well, that's a good point. B Curran, nobody ever brought that up relative to the Niners because for some reason people think they're just right there for a Super Bowl contention when they got a lot of holes. But it goes. Noted man.
Speaker 2:Shabir Sanders, before you go, b Curran, marlon, if I may, you've got to be an absolute moron to pick offensive rookie of the year and defensive rookie of the year three days after the draft. But I'm going to. I'm a more so. My office, my office of rookie of the year, is not surprised. He's going to go to Ashton Jethro because he's going to get the rock man and the Raiders have a defense, they got a decent offensive line and because, as you referenced, that draft is better than most expected from the past few years.
Speaker 2:From the Raiders, you know you can argue that they did have one of the better drafts, so it's not the best. You know, ashton Gentry's my offensive rookie of the year, a defensive rookie of the year, man. Of course I'm biased because this guy's an off-the-ball linebacker. Jalen Walker, the former Buckus Award winner. You can make an argument for some of the edge rushes, you know, like Abdul Carter, edge of Cleveland because he has Miles Garrett on the other side. But I'm going with my guy, jalen Walker, because he can play off the ball and lead the team in tackles and he can edge. I'm looking for him to have 10 sacks and he'll lead that team in tackles so offensively, to repeat, ashton Gentry, rookie of the year Defensively. Jalen Walker, you guys can weigh in on that, or if you haven't done your research yet, we can touch that another day, but that's mine.
Speaker 1:Did your wife make you say Ash and Jizzy Doc?
Speaker 2:No, she didn't. She know I love to pig. We both scream and yell because the Raiders historically go to another direction from the so-and-so. But they did really well. So no, she didn't make me say that.
Speaker 1:I have one last question for you, kerms. But, doc, before I get to Kerms' question, how do you feel, doc, about your Georgia Bulldogs going where they went? How do you feel about it?
Speaker 2:I love Mikel Williams going to San Francisco because he's going to start. He's a day one starter. This is a guy who started from day one at the University of Georgia as a true freshman, as a former five-star parade All-American. Then you get to Jalen Walker you already know my feelings on that. Going to my Falcons, you had Malachi Starks. The safety from Georgia, team captain goes to the Baltimore Ravens, which is a perfect fit. It's a perfect fit B Kerns and Marlin, because he can learn under Kyle Hamilton, who will be in his third year out of Notre Dame, and he's a day one starter.
Speaker 2:Malachi starts In the second and third round. They got Smile Mundin, who went to the Eagles that's Georgia University in the pros. He went to the Eagles and he's going to team with Jahan Campbell, the linebacker from Alabama you know, to form one of the most formidable linebacker crews, as if the Eagles needed that. So Smile Monday is the third or fourth round, I forget, but he's going over there with Jahan Campbell. And then you've got the center from Georgia, jack Wilson. To answer your question, marlon, that he's a plug-and-play vibe for the Patriots, you know started from day one. You know the Patriots have a history of drafting offensive linemen for Georgia. So here you go, right here. Jared Wilson, tremendous athlete, he plays the center position. All-sec performer. Tate Relish, the right guard, goes to Detroit with Dan Campbell. He's like a Bill Frehlingling type, a rugged guy who could just pancake people. He had suffered an injury. He wouldn't have been a first rounder but he had an ankle ankle surgery. But tate relish, remember that name. So yeah, there you go right there, brothers the bulldogs yeah, I love it.
Speaker 1:So, Kerms, your final question I got for you is not pertaining to the NFL, so the NHL. So we have a lot of 2-2 and a lot of 3-1 series, A lot of 3-1s over in the East, a good amount of 2-2s over in the West. So what are your predictions at this point for who's making it to the Stanley Cup Final?
Speaker 3:Oh man, that's a great question. I can tell you who's not going. That's my New Jersey Devils. They just have not looked well. They've had a lot of injuries this season. I mean, the good thing about the NHL playoffs is that it doesn't matter what your record is. You get a lot of 8-1 upsets. As long as you get team playing at the right time and the goalies stay hot, you've got a chance.
Speaker 3:If I had to make a prediction right now, out of the East I'm going to be a little biased because it's my wife's team. I'm going to take the Washington Capitals. Keep Alexander Ovechkin's historic season going with what he did Out of the West. That's a great question. Let me pull up the rank, let me pull up the series right now. Okay, let's see they're all 2-2.
Speaker 1:They're all 2-2 at this point.
Speaker 3:They're all 2-2 at this point. Wow, you know what Adam Sean I know loves Connor McDavid and the Oilers. I mean that's a tough pick. I mean that's a good pick to do right there. You know what? I'm going to go with my guy Chad in California. I'm going to take the Colorado Avalanche, nate McKinnon and the Avalanche. So I'm going to go with the Avalanche and the Capitals in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Speaker 1:Okay, all right.
Speaker 2:Wow, that's good yeah.
Speaker 1:We definitely will see how that plays out. We're trying to talk a little more hockey as the episodes go by.
Speaker 3:So we will, and that was our hockey talk, as Adam would say it's our hockey show.
Speaker 1:Yes, that's our hockey segment, so yeah, cool. Hey well, preak Kerns, we appreciate you, man.
Speaker 3:You have anything else before we get you out of here. You know what you always mention, like under-golf picks, yes, yes, yes, with the PGA Championship coming up in a couple weeks. I haven't looked at the odds too previously, but if anyone's looking for a pick I know Scottie Scheffler, rory McIlroy are always easy picks. I would keep an eye out on Justin Thomas. Is that Quail Hollow in Charlotte? He won there. I think it was back in 2017, 2018. He's been playing very well this year. I'm going to guess his odds are going to be around. I would say no, at worst maybe 35-40-1. I've got to take a look. But if you want to put a couple bucks on someone outside of, like you know Rory Scottie, bryson DeChambeau, kyle Moore, taller I would look at Justin Thomas.
Speaker 2:Okay, Right on B Curms, yeah.
Speaker 1:Absolutely All right. Well, Curms, we appreciate you and we will get you back on soon around preseason. We got just about three weeks away. We have the Hall of Fame game. The Chargers and the Lions will be July 31st, so about three weeks, three months. I keep saying three weeks, Three months. I wish it was three weeks, Three months, Three months from now and we'll have that, so we will get you on around preseason time. Bree Kearns, Appreciate your time, man.
Speaker 3:I appreciate it. Thank you guys, for having me, and I'm sure by then we'll be talking fantasy football rankings.
Speaker 2:Oh, absolutely.
Speaker 1:Oh, we love you for coming, thank you All right, kerms, all right, that was great, that was great, that was great.
Speaker 1:Love B Kerms. All right, doc, we're going to hop right into this NBA before we get out of here, man, a lot of people and of course we can't bury the lead so a lot of people wanted to say that you know Lakers in five and this, and that After that game one I said if we can get to a game seven I would be happy. Obviously, we have a chance if we make it to game seven. With the way this team was playing, I didn't think we would even win in Minnesota and we didn't. Refs were a little shaky for the most part over the whole course of the game, but still they were the better team. They were more aggressive.
Speaker 1:Anthony Edwards is a young, rising star. Julius Randle has a lot of revenge on his mind, so it's personal, obviously, for him, but with this team I think it was no substitutions, I believe by JJ Redick, in the whole second half. You can't do that with a fat, overweight Luka and an old, 40-year-old LeBron. You can't do that. So what were your thoughts so far on the series up until this point?
Speaker 2:Well, it was a disgrace that JJ Redick did that to that team in a game that the Lakers could have won if he had just trusted the kid Hayes in the center. You know Luka has a special connection with Hayes on a lot of dunks and this, that and the other. You need a rebound, you know. And what surprised me so far is the lack of physicality on the Lakers' part. Man, I expected more out of Vanderbilt and Hashimura on a defensive end. You know Hashimura is playing great offense but Randle's having his way. What about the adjustments? You know, put Hayes out there to waste his fouls. Bang him up a little bit. He is 7-1, albeit thin, but he's not a punk. And, to your point, redick made a mistake by playing these guys major minutes. That's why they criticized Thibodeau up in New York for wearing his guys out. I know it was a game they had to have, but you've got to make substitutions, man Morris. Marquis Morris said we need to see nothing. Why do you have him on the team if you can't waste fouls and bang up? You know, with his experience, bang up. You know your guy his name escapes me just bang him up a little bit and then you know it's one of those things where, late yesterday, the threes the defensive threes because they were tired, they couldn't defend the perimeter. I think JJ Redick has been a horrible job as far as coaching and having these mismatches that he should utilize with that bench they have, you know, and the guys get tired the whole second half. Who does that? Having these mismatches that he should utilize with that bench they have, and the guys get tired the whole second half. Who does that? I've never heard of that before. The funny part about it Marlon for the Lakers.
Speaker 2:As far as the Lakers go, luka Doncic has performed. Now he was sick the other night. Luka Doncic is doing what he does, and so is LeBron, but LeBron is 40. And then, you know, hashimura has some good moments offensively, but I need more from Reeves. Reeves had 45 late in the year, so he can score, you know. I just don't know. I think he can do three in a row, but it's going to be hard. He's definitely got to win Wednesday night at the Crip. He's definitely got to win Wednesday night at the crib. You definitely got to do that?
Speaker 1:Well, yeah, because if you don't, it's over. So we have two sweeps in the OKC Thunder over the Grizzlies and then the Cleveland Cavaliers over the Heat. The Heat lost by 50. No, I think it may have been 60.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it was up there. It was up there. So that was obviously embarrassing. But you know, the Cavs are the Cavs, they were. Them and OKC were the best teams in the league. And then Boston is up 3-1. The Knicks are up 3-1. The Pacers are up 3-1. Speaking of that game, Damian Lillard, when he went down I knew he tore that Achilles. So obviously you think about him. And at his age, with the torn Achilles, Will his career ever be the same that it was before? We will see. And of course we just talked about the Lakers. The Rockets and the Warriors are an interesting series and the Clippers and Nuggets are an interesting series too as well. So we will see those games, I believe, tomorrow.
Speaker 2:Probably the game of the year was the other night with the Nuggets and the Clippers, man, because the Clippers fought way back to take the lead again. You know, gordon did the dunk. That's one of the most exciting games postseason or regular season in the history of the sport, because the ball looks like it was still in his hand, on the tip of the finger. But they ruled it a point, you know, and that was Kawhi Leonard when he was with Toronto doing the last second shot a few years ago. This was on that magnitude, man. You know the Nuggets had to have that game and they got it. Now did the Clippers come back mentally drained, you know, and got to go to Denver again? I don't know, man. You know the Clippers do have that magic, but Denver is a championship pedigree.
Speaker 2:Now you mentioned the Knicks man, and everybody and his mother knows that that kid for Detroit got fouled. He got fouled big time, man. You know, on the last second shot, the Knicks got out of Detroit with a lucky one. And the referees all you ask as an NBA fan, marlon, is to have fair and impartial refereeing. I don't know how you do not call that foul on the last second and have the Knicks win that game. That was a big-time foul.
Speaker 2:They admit it. They apologize, but that doesn't do Detroit any better. You might as well have kept it to yourself. Why are you apologizing? You know that might kill Detroit's chance. No way do they go to Madison Square Garden down 3-1 and pull out a victory. I just hate to see that. Detroit's a young team and you know the skill set of Kay Cunningham. He's turned the ball over a few times. But that Detroit team needed to win that game and chances are the kid would have hit the three free throws. You know Nothing against the Knicks, but you just got to be fair. You know, and that's my take on that as far as that goes, controversial to say the least.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah.
Speaker 1:Yeah, oh, yeah. So if all roads shape the thunder, they obviously would play either the Clippers or the Nuggets. I think the Thunder for sure will handle that one. The Lakers, well, let's just say the Timberwolves. If they go ahead and win tomorrow, they will play either the Rockets or the Warriors. So Thunder should be coming out the west. And then, when you look at the east, the Cavs are playing either the well the Cavs most likely will play the Pacers For sure got the Cavs in that one and the Celtics most likely are playing the Knicks, which that's going to be the best series of you know of that next round for sure.
Speaker 1:So yeah, if I can, if you could sign me up for Celtics, celtics Cavs and then Thunder, if the Lakers can get there. It's going to take a lot for them to do it because they got to win three straight, which is going to be tough. I don't see them even winning. You know they can win game five. Game six is going to be a little for them to do it because they've got to win three straight, which is going to be tough. I don't see them even winning. They can win game five. Game six is going to be a little shaky.
Speaker 2:But if you give me Thunder Warriors and then Celtics Cavs, I'd take that in a heartbeat. Yeah, I hate to throw shade at the Clippers, but that was a devastating loss. They got the veterans to do the thing. They got the personnel to do it. Harden has been playing extremely well. He reminds me of 26-year-old Harden. Of course, you know Kawhi Leonard and Dunn the kid Dunn has been doing it. They got Powell, you know, and then they got the big man in the middle.
Speaker 2:So the Clippers have to do otherworldly things to win in Denver after a devastating loss like that. But it goes, noted man. The Warriors they've got the championship pedigree too, and now Jimmy Butler's coming back. So we'll see, we'll see. On that end there, absolutely the Celtics. You know you've got to give it up to them. I still have Cleveland beating them, but the Knicks are going to be formidable because Cat and their Mikel Bridges they're balling out man. It looks like Thibodeau is going to play more than a seven or eight-man rotation because people get tired. I think he learned from last year, so we'll see.
Speaker 1:I love it, Yep absolutely. All right, Doc, so that's all I got for you. You got anything else before we get out of here?
Speaker 2:No, no, great weekend man. You had the NBA postseason Great game, great finishes and the NFL draft. Then you had some controversy relative to Shadurah Sanders. Some people pro and some people con. I'm on record saying I'm pro. You should have been a late first at the very least. But it goes to note it was a great weekend man. It goes to note it was a great weekend man. The NFL draft is once a year, so now next in line is the NFL schedule, may 14th. That's pretty much all I got. We covered some of the teams. We covered some of the divisions. My offensive and defensive rookie of the year Yours will come at a later date after research. But that's all I got. Brother, this was a great show with B Kearns.
Speaker 1:Absolutely so. We will catch you guys next time. And some more NBA and NHL playoffs. We'll catch you guys next time. We didn't even talk baseball, but we'll get into all that next week. We'll catch you guys next time. Peace, peace.
