And welcome everybody to another episode of Real Talk. Doc, you doing all right today.
Speaker 2:Yes, I am. I'm very excited about today's show, you know, and late it. Do the intro, brother.
Speaker 1:It's going to be a great one. It's going to be a great one, but before we get to that, you know, happy Memorial Day to all of the veterans out there, and especially to you, doc. So what did you do on Monday and really for the whole weekend? How did you celebrate your weekend?
Speaker 2:Well, I took the family to the fair LA County Fair on Saturday and then Sunday we went to the LA Sparks game to see Kelsey Plum versus Angel Reese and the Sparks won. They had to have that one because there was a little slide. But Kelsey Plum's the real deal and so is Angel Reese. She's more rebounder, defensive type, she's more Dennis Rodman type as far as rebounding and scoring when she can and her J is okay. But the Sparks won. And then yesterday I barbecued for the family man, some chicken, some ribs. My wife made some greens. So yeah, we thoroughly enjoyed it. So thank you for the props and the memo, for the memorials. People that we have lost. You know had some uncles in Vietnam and my grandfather. He served in World War II. He was on the Queen Mary back then. So yeah, thank you, appreciate it.
Speaker 1:Mark Of course, no problem. No problem, alright. So, doc, and this is a special episode. Not only is this a special episode because you are going to introduce our guest, but this is our 50th episode. So we've been going for a while I think it's coming up on a year pretty soon but it's our 50th episode, so it's a huge episode, and the fact that we have this guest joining us makes it that much better. So, doc, go ahead and do the intro to our special guest for this 50th episode.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I'm proud to announce that my daughter, morgan, is going to be joining us today, and she's very astute in sports ball player plays basketball and she thoroughly enjoyed the WNBA yesterday. So welcome aboard, morgan.
Speaker 1:How you doing, Morgan.
Speaker 3:You there. I'm here, I'm doing good. How are you?
Speaker 1:I'm doing good. Don't be shy Now. Your dad is a very what's the word?
Speaker 3:that.
Speaker 1:I could say. I guess I could say loud, obnoxious, no, he has no problem with talking how he feels. So we are hoping that you can give us that too, as well, and all of our listeners. So, welcome to the show. We do appreciate you for joining. Thank you.
Speaker 3:Thank you for having me here.
Speaker 1:Of course, no problem. No problems, all right. So we're going to hop right into it. So he did say that you do play basketball, so what position do you play?
Speaker 3:I can play the four or the five. I mostly play at the center, but it really depends on who's in the game at that time.
Speaker 1:Okay, okay, so I didn't even prep you for this question. So when you say you're a center, when you look at some of the players just in the NBA current or in the past who are some of the players that you've really idolized their game and kind of try to emulate- Shaq.
Speaker 3:Really I watched some of his videos back in the day where he was with the Lakers, with Kobe, and I really try to implement his post moves and all that type of stuff and really just try to make sure my game is up to par with what I'm satisfied with.
Speaker 1:I love it. I love it. Now, does your dad get out there and try to shoot a little bit with you, or does he not have anything left in the tank?
Speaker 3:Yeah, he tries to. He breaks everything.
Speaker 2:No, yeah, I love it, I love it okay.
Speaker 1:So, um you know who is your nba team, um, right now, who's your team?
Speaker 3:the los angeles lakers I hear you.
Speaker 1:I'm the same way. That's my team too. I'm from san diego, so that's my team too as well. So obviously, our season didn't turn out quite like we thought it would. Obviously, acquiring Luka, and LeBron is still LeBron, but he's 40. So you're not going to get the Miami Heat, lebron. So what were your thoughts on the season? And then, of course, what were your thoughts on us in the playoffs?
Speaker 3:My thoughts on the season was I think we did a really good job Even without Luka, without Luka Trey. We did a really good job because we had Anthony Davis. We actually had a center that could help out and get rebounds and that could shoot, do moves and all types of stuff. About the Luka trade and the AD trade I was very iffy on it because, again, we don't have a dominant center that we actually needed to make it to the playoffs and do the playoff run. But Luca is a dominant player on top of that, with his shooting, his drive, his passes. He does a lot of things offensively and defensively. That helped us out when we did acquire him.
Speaker 3:When it came to the playoff time, I think we could have done a better job coaching wise, because we did have jackson hayes that we barely even played yeah we made gobert seem like he was prime shack at that time, because 27 points is ridiculous for gobert to even score on us, because he doesn't really score like that, he's more of a defensive player. So we I was really disappointed because we shouldn't have gotten knocked out the first round of the playoffs. We could have at least just kept going to the second round or third round, because I was very excited to see how far we would go with the Luka trade and if we could go to the finals early to get a finals win.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and you know, when I tell certain people in Dallas I live in Dallas when I tell certain people that, hey, you guys have a great player in Anthony Davis, they only see the bad. They only see him not playing or always eating hurt. And we have a love-hate relationship with Anthony Davis, but obviously when healthy he is still, you know, one of the top five. I will say top 10 now top 10 offense, and then defensively, for sure, he's top five still at this point. So now seeing him, kyrie obviously is not going to come back until maybe January, february, but you're still going to get a great young player in Cooper Flagg. So this Dallas team is set up to be pretty good, at least for the next couple of years, but I will miss Anthony Davis. I'm definitely glad that we got Luca, but I will miss Anthony Davis. He definitely was a great part of the offense and the defense. So we definitely, yeah, we need to get some help in the interior going forward. So what are your thoughts on that?
Speaker 3:Yeah, I need to get some help in the interior going forward.
Speaker 1:So what are your thoughts on that? Yeah, I agree. Yeah, All right, Doc. What do you think, man? What do you think the Lakers need? Going forward man.
Speaker 2:Well, we think Lucas should get in a better condition, better physical condition, and try to acclimate his teammates going into the next season. Off-season workouts, this, that and the other, the shot and the skill is there, but here again we do need a physical presence. I'm hoping the Lakers make a run at Giannis the Greek freak and bring him out here in LA, and that's hopeful thinking. But here's the thing, marlon, you know Jackson Hayes needs to get in the weight room, just in case you don't get it big. He needs to get in the weight room and up his game a little bit. You know, because we still got Vanderbilt and we still got Hashimura.
Speaker 2:I do blame Redick, like my daughter mentioned reference, because Redick did not play the people that had the matchup and would have given Gobert some problems. He's still 7-1 at the end of the day and there's been some other mistakes Redick made. Remember the Lakers were playing major minutes, you know, shocking minutes on a 5 or 6-7-man rotation and the legs got tired. You can't do that to a 41-year-old man. He's playing the entire game, or entire second half, if you will. So Morgan is right and relevant relative to the coaching coaching from JJ Reddick.
Speaker 2:Now, bear in mind he's a first year coach. He came off a podcast much like this one with LeBron, but he had to be smarter than he had. This is the playoffs, the postseason. Marlon, you know that. You know you had a whole year to work out the kink, so to speak. So it remains to be seen if we're going to keep Austin Reeves to answer your question, in case a major trade does happen for a big and I think Drummond is still out there, you know, and he's a little older, but we'll see how that goes, brother, real talk.
Speaker 1:Okay, all right Now, morgan, obviously the playoffs are in, instead of talking about teams that aren't necessarily doing too relevant right now, teams that are the Thunder. Timberwolves obviously OKC is taking care of business and that being up 3-1. The Pacers right now I believe they're going to take a 3-1 lead after this game ends. Looks like they're up a little bit on the Knicks. So what are your thoughts on these two series right now? Did you expect the Thunder to take control of this one? Did you think that the Knicks would be not giving their all and not showing the world that they can win this and get back to a final? What are you thinking so far on these two series, morgan? I have a lot to say on the teams playing right now.
Speaker 3:On on the playoffs. I love it. Let's go. I think that they're not ready. This is the second time that they've been down to the same team because of last year they lost to the pacers in the um the second round, that they didn't make it, and what's going on with the series right now?
Speaker 3:The Knicks blew a lead at home, in the Garden, and I don't think that's acceptable. Because you're at home, you know this team very well because you guys played them last year. The adjustments, I feel like, were not made by the coach and I also think the coach needs to go more into his bench and play more players to help out Brunson and Kat and all the other players, along with M&OB. I think his players are very much tired and gassed because they have been playing a lot of minutes throughout this whole playoff series and I think the coaches really need to go into depth with his team. On to the Pacers I have always liked the Pacers, ever since last year, because people have always said that they are overrated or they're not going anywhere. No one was really paying attention to them in the regular season, because I know I wasn't. I admit I was not paying attention to the pacers in the regular season until they made it to the playoffs.
Speaker 3:Um, they are a really good team and I think that they're the only team in the eastern conference that will give the um thunder a run for the chip. And they do have a really good team. Their team chemistry is very, very well. They pass the ball. Tyrese Halliburton is very much underrated in my opinion and I think that he should have been a clutch player of the year because he has hit a lot of game winners, or whatever you want to call them, in the playoffs that made the Pacers go this deep into the run. Being the Cavaliers at the Cavaliers was very much important with his last second shot that he did, and then um, along with all the other things that go with the Pacers. I really think that they do play all their players well. I think they go deep into the bench really well. I think the coaching is very much, very, very well.
Speaker 3:Next thing is the Timberwolves. I really think that Anthony Edwards and Randall do need to step up, because last game was very much unacceptable on the scoring part. Randall was five points, one from seven. Because last game was very much unacceptable on the scoring part, randall, with five points, one from seven, from the field, very much unacceptable. You're at home. This is almost. You're down 2-1. This is almost like you have to win this game at home, because you're not going to win at OKC in this type of situation, because I feel like that's just very much impossible.
Speaker 3:And Anthony Edwards, I think he needs to take more shots and at least try to get more open more. I know they were sending a lot of defenders at him yesterday, but that is just no excuse. You have to want to get the ball, want to get open, want to score, want to win. You want to do a lot of these things, but in my opinion, he didn't want it enough. And I also believe that he is also tired because he does play a lot of minutes as well. He does do a lot of things for his team, offensively and defensively. So I think that he's also tired and, along with randall, I think that he needs to just step up. Five points is just very much, not okay, um yeah and in a critical game at home.
Speaker 3:It's just very much embarrassing. Next, okc I feel like okc is winning it all. I feel like no one's going to be able to stop them. They have a great team chemistry, shy, glitz and alexander is amazing player. He goes to the hole, he, he tries to get fouls, he has a good three-point shot, he. He's just an outstanding player and I think that he deserves MVP. No matter what anyone says, I think that OKC has a lot of players that do contribute. They have a really good coaching staff. They also have a lot of bench players that do score and try to contribute, and I feel like that for the playoffs.
Speaker 1:Well, that was great. That was amazing. Doc, what do you got to say about all that? She gave us a lot. Now, what do you got to say on that?
Speaker 2:Well, I agree with Morgan relative to Anthony Edwards. If you want to be that guy, you want to be the head factor, you want to be the face of the league. You don't think they threw things at Kobe triple team. You don't think they threw things at the great Michael Jordan. You have to work through that. You have to develop some inside moves and go to the rack or do something and have you make yourself viable. Two shots in the first half at the crib.
Speaker 2:Marlon is pathetic, you know two-shot attempts. And also Randall. Randall, to me, is overrated. That's why I blew him out of New York. They ran him out of New York. He thinks he's a one but he's not.
Speaker 2:And I think the fact that Morgan referenced the fact that, you know, minnesota's getting outplayed. Now, that being said, okc has this thing where they have the size with Chet Holmgren and Mike Hardenstein, where they can run the floor or play half court because of the size. Now, remember, chet Holmgren is a guy that can hit the three at 7'3". So it's one of those things where I agree with Morgan relative to him taking it all, because you know, I don't think the Pacers, I know Billy Turner's tall, but I don't think the Pacers have the size to combat OKC in the finals in and of itself. But we'll get to that.
Speaker 2:I just think that the Knicks and Thibodeau you know he runs his guys into the ground they were lucky to win game three or four. So yeah, you're giving props for having a heart and doing that, but it's like the Pacers are going to take care of business here, brother. And you know, as Morgan referenced, rick Conlow is a great coach, marlon, and he knows how to do the bench and his starting five and get the matches that he needs, you know. So you know it's interesting and the Knicks they might win at the Garden on Thursday, who knows? I think for the most part, the pace is going to take this series. Martin made some great points. Man, you've got to have mismatches. Relative to Anthony Edwards, as she referenced, if you want to be that guy, you have to make yourself want to be a difference in that series, you know. So, yeah, there you go, right there.
Speaker 1:I agree, absolutely. I love it. Okay, all right. So, morgan, last NBA question. Before we get to some WNBA, then some NFL, on the for the NBA, I just, I just want some of your, just so I can kind of get a feel for you. I just want your top five players of all time. So now this doesn't have to be a one through a five, it can be. You can give me five point guards, whoever your five favorite players of all time. Your five, who are they?
Speaker 3:Okay, I'm kind of young, I'm only 20. So this is my five that I've seen in my lifetime, and at number one I have Kobe. Number two I have LeBron. Number three I have Steph Curry. Number four I have Kyrie Irving and the number five.
Speaker 1:I have Kevin Durant, OK, and it's crazy that, even though you say you are still young, you got to remember Kobe played in the 90s, kd LeBron obviously in the early 2000s. So yeah, no, that's great. I love that.
Speaker 2:What do you think of her five players? Doc, I agree, for Asia, these are the people that they've seen, and I can't argue with none of that, because Kyrie Irving by himself is a great ball handler and he's an impact player. Kobe Kyrie Irving by himself is a great ball handler and he's an impact player. Kobe is Kobe, you know, and Kobe's one of those nine-time first-team all-defense you know. And then you mentioned Durant and prolific scorer.
Speaker 2:He's got two rings, but I just think that LeBron, when it's all said and done, he has all the records right now, by the way, and he'll be even matched with Jordan, if not better, because it's sick what he's doing at age 40, going to be 41. So, yeah, I don't have a problem with that man. Of course, you didn't see Big Cap, you know, and some of the other greats, you know. Shaq is a monster man. He's in my personal top ten ever.
Speaker 1:So, yeah, so now, who would your top five be? Doc, your favorite players, Top five.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, top five man. Okay, well, you know, you go with Jordan Kareem, wilt Russell Magic. How about that?
Speaker 1:Okay, that's fine. Yeah, I love it. I love it, man, I love it, I love it, okay, alright. So some WNBA action we have. We're about what? Four or five games in. Just heard the news Kaitlyn Clark's going to be out a couple weeks with the SOAR Quad. We've already had our first Angel Reese versus Kaitlyn Clark match, new York Liberty, looking to repeat. Some new faces and new places. You got Jewel Lloyd over there in Las Vegas and, as you guys said, with Kelsey Plum over there in LA, so definitely an excited time for the WNBA. So I will ask you this I'm assuming you're a Sparks fan, morgan, who's your team? I am a Sparks fan, okay, all right. So what are your thoughts on your team thus far? Obviously Brink being out and I believe shoot, I cannot forget her name, it's her second year.
Speaker 3:Rekia Jackson.
Speaker 1:Yes yes, yes, I think she's out too as well. So what are your thoughts on your team thus far and what are your predictions as far as this year for your team?
Speaker 3:As you said, we do have a lot of injuries. With Rekia Jackson being out, cameron Brink, ray Burnell we have a lot of injuries. I do think that Kelsey Plum was a great add to the team. She's a really good point guard. She's a good scorer, she can shoot the three, she can drive, she can get the fouls. I think that she can do a lot of things offensively and defensively that helps off the sparks in general. When can do a lot of things offensively and defensively. That helps off the sparks in general. When we do get our players back, I do think we will get a deep run. Um, I do think we probably will have a winning record. I do think that the sparks will be all right within the years coming.
Speaker 1:Um, yeah, yeah, I do think that they're. As you said, injuries are there. But one big thing that I will say and this is a hot take, I have not said this yet on this podcast, but I'm going to say it now the Aces are desperately going to miss Kelsey Plum because she brought so much to them, especially on the defensive side. Now some may say, oh well, we have Jewel Lloyd, the gold mamba, blah, blah, blah, blah, whatever. We have to have a real conversation and admit jewel lloyd's not the same player that she was a couple years ago. She's, she's taking a step back. Yes, she can still score defensively. She is the liability. And that's where I feel that the aces are going to miss somebody like kp, because that's what she brings. She brings that fire, that tenacity, and she can still score and be aggressive on the offensive side. And also, too, the Aces really don't have that much of a bench With the expansion team seeing Jew, the girl that played with Kaitlin Clark in Iowa.
Speaker 1:She's Kate Martin. Yes, kate Martin, she's gone. A couple other players are gone too as well. So, yeah, the Aces are going to be in trouble and you can only play your guys so much. Chelsea Gray's great, but she's getting a little bit older, so I don't know. The Aces are obviously great with Asia Wilson and Jackie Young and the whole crew, but they better step up and make sure that they stay healthy, because they don't have a bench to make it far in this run.
Speaker 3:Yes, I agree. I do think Aja Wilson will need more help than what they're giving her. They lost to the Liberty, I believe, yesterday by 20 points and really much of a blowout. I do think that Aja Wilson is going to need some help. Jackie Young needs to step up. You guys just said Chelsea Gray and they don't have a bench. As you said, they trade off Cade Martin to the Valkyries. So I do think that they do need to apply more bench players or at least try to get more people off the bench and get more people involved to help out the players more.
Speaker 1:Doc your thoughts on WNBA right now.
Speaker 2:I think it's one of the most intriguing things to see the Sparks grow as a team. We just went to the game two days ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience at Crypto Arena, formerly Staples. So all the banners, hockey and basketball. But the basketball game for women has increased over the last three or four years and the popularity in and of itself has grown to the regular fan like myself. You know, paige Beckers was the first pick this year. You know, last year was Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese went.
Speaker 2:Number two, I think, uh, carmela Cardoso, the big man, the big woman for um, for, uh, chicago Sky yeah she didn't just step up if she wants to go forward and if Skye can bring it a championship or a deep playoff run, because at 6'7" she needs to do more. We saw that personally. Now, angel Reese is a ball player. She's good at rebounding, getting her points off putbacks, she has a little J, but it's one of those things where this rivalry Kaitlin Clark is the real thing. Bird magic too. So we thoroughly enjoyed the WNBA and I think fans like myself who are so accustomed to the NBA and men's basketball, this is exciting. It all starts with the college game, you know. So Morgan wants to add something real quick.
Speaker 3:On the Angel Reese thing. I would have to disagree with my father on that. I don't like this rivalry at all. I don't think it's a rivalry. First of all, they play two different positions and I feel like their stats mean differently based on their position. So to call it a rivalry, I think that it's just a little bit unfair or a little bit over overhyped. I would say because I don't think it's just a little bit unfair or a little bit over overhyped, I would say because I don't think it's a rivalry. I don't think that this should be a rivalry, especially because of a lot of things are going on with angel reese and a lot of racism in the league that is going on with her and uh, indiana fans and all that type of stuff.
Speaker 3:when they did play at Clark at Indiana Fever, I didn't really appreciate how she was treated.
Speaker 3:I heard a lot of things. I heard that there was a lot of racial slurs thrown at her. I don't like that because it's a lot going on outside of basketball with the race, with the race world, and racism and bringing into the WNBA is not is not okay and I think that the commissionerNBA is not okay and I think that the commissioner should really speak out about this and should really stop this rivalry because it's getting a little bit out of hand and a lot of things are getting not talked about, in my opinion, and I really need it to be talked about more because I think that this rivalry is getting a little bit too out of hand and a lot of things that are going on in the WNBA need to be talked about on the racism part and a lot of the fans are really really being racist to the players and a lot of players have spoken out about this, like Dijonette Carrington has spoken out. A lot of players have spoken out about the racism in the league and, like the fans.
Speaker 1:And a lot of things just need to change in the WNBA in my opinion. Yeah, I do agree it's sad, but it's in every sport. I think we've seen Russell Westbrook, I want to say, going to Utah, having a tough time there. Doc, I know you can attest to this with baseball and you know, even up in like Boston, having issues with there, it's all around. Having issues with their, it's all around. But yeah, it's, it definitely needs to be addressed and and handled in some sort of you know, banned from, you know arenas, stadiums, all that stuff. So we'll see if something does happen in the future. But you know to your point. I do agree it's not a rivalry.
Speaker 1:I, I, I don't mind Caitlin Clark. I've never really been a fan of her game. I just think that if she's going to be the best player that she's going to be, she definitely should strive to try to be like Asia Wilson. But she definitely has to get a better jump shot. I think defensively, overall, she's a great Dennis Rodman, she can do all of the dirty stuff. She can get your rebounds, defend your best player putbacks, all that stuff. I think that's what she's great at. She's probably going to make a name for herself just off of just doing that stuff. If she can work on her shot a little bit better, yes, absolutely, she can get up there and hopefully eventually uh, you know be somewhat in the names of Asia Wilson and Brianna Stewart name, you know with with big men that can shoot, but but she definitely needs to work on that.
Speaker 1:But as far as now, I love her down low doing all the dirty work. I do think that's amazing, but, yeah, I they. They make it a rivalry because it's what's going to to sell tickets, push the narrative going back to college, seeing them play each other and all that, and they probably don't necessarily care about each other. Here and there they're just out there playing. They rarely guard each other, you know, unless Caitlyn is down in the paint. Angel's a great defender, but she can't hang with her out on the three-point line. Caitlyn's going to dance all around her and step back three all day.
Speaker 2:Yeah good point and vice versa.
Speaker 1:you know, caitlyn is no way, shape or form, can hang with Angel Reese in the paint. So I agree, but yeah, no, I 100 percent. You know understand what you're saying, doc. Last point on this.
Speaker 2:Well, I think that you know. The fact is that black versus white athlete that sells for some reason. You know the way Bird and Magic did. Now, bird played the three and Magic was a point, so they didn't necessarily play the same positions but they did play against each other, much like Keglin and Angel. You know because Bird and Magic. To this day, the college national championship game between Indiana State and Michigan State is off the charts rating-wise, and that's 30, almost 40 years later, 1979. So, yeah, you can have a rivalry. Then one went to Boston, one went to LA, so it sells.
Speaker 2:As far as the growth of the WNBA in and of itself but, as Morgan referenced, there's a lot of teams out there and some of them have significant injuries, like the Sparks, that going forward, pushing forward, that it's going to be interesting for the fan over the summer, like myself and other men that are long-standing NBA fans have grown toward the WNBA. This is where college comes in. I find myself watching NCAA women all year, especially with UConn and South Carolina, with Dawn Staley being the head coach. So it's one of those things where you know I'm happy for where the game is now and take it from there For the record and I'll leave you with this. I still think the greatest women basketball player, cheryl Miller. You know Reggie's sister. She played with the McGee twins in the late 70s, early 80s and they won like three championships at USC. So Cheryl Miller for me and then you can add your Lisa Leslie's and Cheryl Cooper's and you know names over the years but Cheryl Miller for me is number one Ever.
Speaker 1:Okay, all right, I love it. Okay Now, morgan, before we get to some nfl, who are just some of your favorite players, uh, in the wmba? They can be recently retired or current, so who are just just some of some of your favorite players right now in the w?
Speaker 3:um, I have a. I have a lot, uh well, some that are not in right now sh Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Kansas Parker. And then we move into the people that are in Angel Reese, Asia Wilson, KP. Oh, that's Kelsey Plum, Cameron Brink, Kiki Efrin the rookie on the Mystics, she's doing really well Paige Beckers, Dejanay Carrington I could go on and on about how much I just love women's sports and women's players in general.
Speaker 1:I love it and I actually believe it or not. Doc, over the years I've watched more women's WNBA versus the NBA, for whatever reason. I'm not sure why I've just gravitated to that a little bit more. Maybe just because I have a daughter and she's in sports and all that, but you know it's, it's. You know you have what 11, 12 teams versus the whole 30. And so I don't know. And to my players, of course Kelsey Plum love her.
Speaker 1:Brianna Stewart that's one of my goats. Uh, watched her all throughout college in yukon. Uh, all the way up until now winning with the liberty. Uh, uh, natasha cloud the fact that we got her on the team now. I love that. She's a dog. Love her.
Speaker 1:Um, you know cameron brink. I was a huge fan of her. Definitely wish she can come back soon. Uh, to feast of collier. Um, yeah, as you could say, I can go on and on too as well. So definitely a huge, huge fan of the w right now. And where it's at, it's at a really good place. I hope that it continues to grow. Uh, we just now have the golden state. I'm not gonna say wrong valkyries. Uh, so we have them now, so it's just up and coming. So I love. I love where it's at and I hope it continues to grow. Uh, and it's um, they now have the chartered flights, uh, so it's it where it's at and I hope it continues to grow. And they now have the chartered flights, so it's great. Wnba is in a great place right now. All right, Anything else on the WNBA, morgan, before we go ahead and go to the NFL.
Speaker 3:No.
Speaker 1:All right, so on to the NFL. So now this is obviously we know for the people that have been living under a rock. Obviously, Dr Falcon is a huge Falcons fan, but his wife I don't know why, I'm still trying to figure this out but unfortunately she is a Raiders fan. So you know how we feel about Raiders fans on this podcast. Doc, we're not going to tell your wife, or anything.
Speaker 3:You're a Charger.
Speaker 1:yes, All right. So now the big question Morgan, now who is your NFL team? I'm just assuming that it's either the Raiders or the Falcons, and how did you make that decision? Or how did somebody else make that decision for you that that is going to be your team?
Speaker 3:I am a Raider fan.
Speaker 1:Raider Nation.
Speaker 3:Oh boy oh man, I really like the fan base. You know Raider Nation, all the wonderful things, the game, the atmosphere is very much live. I've been going to Raider games since I was younger. I really, really, really like the players and just fell in love with the game, the Raiders game. Honestly.
Speaker 1:So now, did you decide that on your own that you wanted to be Raiders? Or did your mom say, hey, start buying your Raiders clothes at a young age? How did you? You know what made you choose the Raiders and not the Falcons?
Speaker 3:I chose it on my own. There was no influence. My dad had influenced me about the Falcons. My mom it on my own. There was no influence. My dad had influenced me about the Falcons. My mom's been influencing me about the Raiders. I chose on my own, okay.
Speaker 1:All right, well, the Chargers are still out there, in case you change your mind.
Speaker 2:That's right brother.
Speaker 1:All right. So what are your predictions and thoughts on the season? Obviously, Doc, I don't even know who their quarterback is right now.
Speaker 3:Gino Smith. Gino, that's right.
Speaker 1:Gino, you got Pete Carroll and everything. That's right. That's right. So what are your thoughts on the season? What are you looking forward to? Are you excited, nervous? What are your thoughts on the season? What are you looking forward to? Are you excited, nervous?
Speaker 3:What are your thoughts on the upcoming season? This coming season, I'm very excited because we did. We got Pete Carroll you know, I know he's a little bit older, but he was with the Seahawks and they did win with him, I believe. Yeah, we did get Geno Smith. I really don't see Seahawks games like that. I don't really know if he's a good player or not, but with the record that I did see when he was playing with them, they did pretty good. So I'm I'm pretty excited. I want to see what's going to happen.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I think offensively they're going to score with anyone. You remember last year they should have beat Kansas City on the road, if not for a center doing something stupid, yeah, and with a marginal quarterback at best. I think Ritter started that game, or was it O'Connell O'Connell, somebody like that? So the AFC West knows how to play against each other. It's not a foregone conclusion that Kansas City is going to be ready. It's going to be a factor, especially with Max Crosby and that revamped defense, new defensive coordinator. Continue, brother, absolutely, absolutely.
Speaker 1:Okay, all right. So this is the time where I'm going to go to a little questionnaire. So it's kind of like Morgan, I'm going to ask you a question questionnaire. So it's kind of like a Morgan, I'm going to ask you a question and it's more so just kind of about you and your dad and all that. So, um, all right, I'm going to get started. So the um. So how often do you get history lessons on players from the seventies, eighties and nineties, whether it's, you know, whatever sport football, basketball, that how often does he always try to give you a history lesson on players?
Speaker 3:Well, when I do watch sports with him you know, when I do sit here and watch sports with him I do ask questions a lot about like, oh, what? Like, how was this team back in the day? Like, well, who was on that team back in the day? How did they play? Who was this player Like? When my family went out to breakfast and I asked who was my dad's top five player of all time, and he gave me these names and I asked what position they were, what they did, who was on their team that contributed to them. I asked a lot of questions. I do like to learn a lot about the history of basketball and who really brought up the way basketball is now with the popularity. He does talk a lot about Steve Bartowski. He's his favorite player of all time for NFL.
Speaker 3:And, along with boxing, his favorite boxer is Muhammad Ali of all time. He talks about him all the time. He has posters we talk a lot about about him all the time he has posters. Yeah, we talk a lot about sports together all the time. He's like my little. I can actually talk to him about sports because I really don't have a lot of friends that do know a lot about sports.
Speaker 3:So when I do want to talk about sports. I come to my mom or my dad because they know a lot of sports, like me, because I grew up watching sports, playing sports. Anything I did with sports I was, I was in it, I knew about it that's awesome.
Speaker 1:That's awesome, okay. So now, what sport do you think is his favorite? Football, basketball or baseball?
Speaker 3:I think it's basketball.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 3:Okay.
Speaker 1:It's a tough one. I think that one is a hard one. Of course he loves his. You know his history with his baseball, his history with basketball and football and everything too. So, doc, do you have a favorite sport, doc?
Speaker 2:Yeah, I do, brother. It's college football and then pro football and then I'll go to. You know baseball and then basketball. So you know college football for me growing up, watching Tony Dorsett at Pitt, earl Cameron at Texas in 77, and Georgia had their run rehearsal in 80. You know, I could tell you the Heisman Trophy winners from 1935 on. You know Jay Burrank was the first at the University of Chicago in 1935. So bless my daughter's heart. Yeah, she was close. And you know, because I played basketball all my life, she would assume that basketball was my favorite sport. But that's number three on the list.
Speaker 1:My wife knows, there you go. This may be a layup for you now, no pun intended, but what team do you think he loves the most? The Atlanta Braves, atlanta Falcons or the Georgia Bulldogs?
Speaker 3:Georgia.
Speaker 2:Bulldogs she would be correct, absolutely, absolutely good job on that very passionate about all of them.
Speaker 1:Speaking of the Falcons, not Matt Ryan geez, kirk Cousins didn't show up to camp today, so that's something that we'll definitely dive into about that, so it's voluntary to show up to camp today.
Speaker 2:So that's something that we'll definitely dive into about that. Yeah, it's voluntary, so OTA. So we're trying to trade him to Pittsburgh, hopefully, because Aaron Rodgers is tripping, so we'll see how that goes. But yeah, it goes. Noted, they missed a voluntary OTA workout. We're not worried about that. Okay.
Speaker 1:And then a couple more questions for you, Morgan. So does he ever try to have you listen to his calls on Mad Dog Sports Radio whenever he calls into the shows?
Speaker 3:Oh my goodness he was there in high school. He would drop me off to school every day. All we would listen to Sirius Radio. Babe, I gotta call in, I gotta call in Sirius Radio. We gotta go, we gotta get in the car.
Speaker 2:I did the replay two ballers so she's very accurate in that regard. I listened to myself ad nauseum.
Speaker 1:I hear you. Did he ever try to get you to call to talk on there, Morgan?
Speaker 3:Well, not really. No, this is my first time. Yeah, okay, that'll be a good one.
Speaker 1:Whenever you get on with Adam, that'll be a great one. I know, adam, I have a ton of questions for you. Yeah, I'm trying. He would love that. Yeah yeah, how often do you guys watch games together? I know you're you, you're you know up in school and everything, but whenever you're home, how often do you guys watch games?
Speaker 3:uh, together well, any time a game is on, I'm most likely out here watching it with my dad or my mom or as a family, pretty much every night, every day. Nice On the weekends especially, we watch a lot of games together.
Speaker 2:Especially Dodger games. Brother, I don't think she's more into Major League Baseball like me or my, but Dodger games we'll watch in my cave or, you know, on a Saturday when basketball's not doing it. So here's Dodger fans, by the way.
Speaker 1:And then the last question for you is how is watching games with him? Is he a screamer at the TV? Is he calm? Does he get up and jump up and down? What is it like watching a game? When he's watching the Bulldogs or the Braves or the Falcons, what is it like?
Speaker 3:In general. We're just watching the general. The general sport he's not a fan of. He's really funny. He cracks jokes. We joke a lot with the players when they mess up or anything like that. When it comes to Georgia games, he's very quiet. He has his hands behind his back always standing still. I remember to this day two years ago when Georgia played, he stood there for a good 10 minutes not moved, because it was fourth quarter. I know they're in the red zone.
Speaker 2:You know what I'm talking about they're in the red zone.
Speaker 3:I was here. I remember that.
Speaker 2:That was the 10th game. Ohio State won our first natty because Ohio State they had those receivers. And remember the Houston quarterback. His name escapes me, he was on that team and I don't know how we slowed him down, but we did. And the kicker for Ohio State, mr Philgo, with the Houston Texans, quarterback for Ohio State, I forget his name.
Speaker 3:Stroud, stroud.
Speaker 2:Stroud, cj Stroud. So yeah, she's right in that regard. And we won the game. Man then blew out TCU 65-7. We had to get over that Ohio State girl. They could play in the SEC man, especially when Stroud was there. They won it all this year. So you know the talent was right there at that time, you know. So yeah, she's referencing Ohio State Georgia three years ago when I was on pins and needles, brother CJ Trout is the truth.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, guys, this was great. This was great. I didn't you know. Of course, I had some lists of questions and everything. But you know, morgan, we can definitely get you on as much as you want. Whenever you want to talk about something, you let your dad know, we'll for sure get you on, because this was amazing.
Speaker 3:Thank you, I can't wait to come back.
Speaker 1:Yeah, all right, doc. Doc, you got anything else? You want to talk a little MLB or what you got for us?
Speaker 2:Well, we'll say well, get it off my chest, man, my Braves, the Padres took two out of three in Atlanta, You're Padres. And then we lost today to the Phillies, you know. So it's one of those things, Marlon, that my Braves, even with the addition of Ronald Acuna Jr coming back, we're struggling pitching-wise. And it begs the question, my GM, Alex Anthopoulos, why do we let Max Reed walk, who is 6-0 undefeated, with a 1.76 ERA to the Yankees? There's no baseball salary cap, so that was a mistake, because our pitching sucks. Spencer Strider, our other aide, he's coming off injuries, can't stay healthy. So we really need, we really miss Max Reed. Other than that, brother, props to your Padres.
Speaker 2:And you know it's going to be interesting going forward in the second half having National League West go. But you know you're right there, along with the Dodgers. So that division, the Giants are unexpected. Mark B Kelly is Giants. So yeah, we'll see how it goes, man, In the AL, Marlins, the Yankees, of course, Seattle is in first place and the AL West just ahead of Houston. We'll see how that ends up, but you know it's going to be interesting. We've got enough time to talk baseball, brother. So thank you for this. Having my daughter on. It's been a great show.
Speaker 1:Thank you. It was amazing. She was great breaking down the W NBA. Of course, her team football this was great. I definitely enjoyed every second. Other than that, you got anything else for us?
Speaker 2:No, brother, pace has just won 130-121. It's a common opponent Knicks to win at Madison Square on Thursday. We'll see if they have the heart to do that so they can go down 3-2 and extend the series. But the Nicks are in trouble, brother.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's it brother. I ain't got nothing else. Cool, all right, we'll catch you guys next time. Peace, peace.
