Welcome Back After Missed Week

Speaker 1

And welcome everybody to another episode of Real Talk . Doc , you doing all right today .

Speaker 2

Yes , sir , I sure am . We missed last week because of undying circumstances and we're back strong baby , let's do it . Let's do it .

Speaker 1

We're back , we're here , we're ready . We got a lot to get into . I mean , we'll finish up , of course , with MLB Padres and Dodgers , that series going on . We'll recap a little bit of the Yanks and the Red Sox , some big news with Tibbs we got to go and dive into that . We weren't able to do it last week . And then , of course , recap of the finals . We got game one and two . Doc will talk and weigh in on some hockey ,

Tennis Grand Slam Recap

Speaker 1

but we're going to start with a little tennis . It's been a huge topic over the weekend . We've had a great series for the Rolling Garros . I'm a huge tennis guy so this is right up my alley watching , you know , from the small 250 , 500 tournaments all the way up to the Grand Slam . So this was huge , this was major . Doc , did you get a chance to watch any of the tennis yourself ?

Speaker 2

No , mostly the highlights , brother , but I'm attuned to what transpired , man . I mean , you know , a five-hour match between Center and Al Karev , that's epic . You know , this is McEnroe versus Bjorn Borg or Jimmy Connors back in the 80s . This is one of the best matches in the history of the sport . You know , this is one of the best matches in the history of the sport , you know . And so yeah , you know those guys . It is a considerate upset because Senna had it , brother . But props to Alcaraz man for doing the thing .

Speaker 2

On the women's side , brother , I'm sure you'll agree this . Coco Gauff her winning over the number one rank , you know player , that's big in and of itself . You can argue it's even bigger than what Alcaraz did . Because Coco Gaul we all know her 10th title , her second straight Grand Slam , something sick Serena Williams-esque . But this is a situation where she was down a set . I don't know tennis that well , but you do Marla Down a set and have the heart to come back and win the last two sets . That's a great attribute for the young 21-year-old , just a kid man , 21 years old In context , my daughter's 20 , and I still call her a kid . But God bless Coco Kauf , she's doing some unprecedented things at such a young age . I mentioned the 10 titles , but her second straight Grand Slam , you know , over a massive underdog going into that match .

Speaker 1

Yeah , sebelinka , overall she's world number one versus world number two , so it was a . You know what everybody wanted to see versus world number two . So it was a um , you know what everybody wanted to see . Overall , coco is a . So this one , they do three . They do three sets with the women . Do so you can win straight sets , um , but the men you have to win three . So , uh , and with the men it's a little weird . They go on to different tiebreakers and sometimes they end up in a fifth set , which is what we saw with center and and alcaraz . But with this one , sabalinka won the first . It was in a tiebreaker too as well , so that was . You could tell , obviously , how close it was if it got to a tiebreaker . I believe it ended up with being 7-5 for the tiebreaker .

Speaker 1

But Coco , she held her ground and she's the best defender on tour . She doesn't always serve the best . She double faults all the time . She can never ace when she needs to . She can't serve consistently over 115 miles per hour , you know she , but she's , she's young and she's only going to get better . And , to your point , she won the us open back in 20 , um , you know 23 , which was obviously out here , uh , and then she wins this one . So now next you got Wimbledon and then you have the Australian Open out of the four big ones that she's obviously , you know , going to win . But Sebelinka's been around , she's won a lot of these . I think this is her third . She makes a lot of finals but she's won , I think , three of the big ones . This is Coco's second . So you know they're back and forth .

Speaker 1

Iga Svirantek's another one . She's a big name . She did drop a little bit in the ranking . She is now down to five , but she is still one of the best players on tour . You have to respect her too as well .

Speaker 1

So Sabalenka didn't handle it the best that she should have . Did she play her best game ? No , going into the game , I did think Sabalenka would win just because , overall , she is a better player . She serves better , her forearm's better , her backhand's better . The only thing that Coco is better than her , in my opinion , defensively . Coco , like I said , the best defensive player .

Speaker 1

But Sabalenka is a better player and she knows that she did not play well , but you got to be a better sport than that . She's used to winning all the time , but she's the best right now in women's tennis . But you have to at least shake hand as you're doing your press conferences . Just don't come off as if you're just being a sore loser . You're pouting . Everybody gives you their credit whenever you beat them . So just because you didn't play great which and some of those wins that you've had other players have not played great , but you don't see them on the podium saying , hey well , I didn't play my best tennis and all that like , no , okay , you had over 70 unforced errors . You it was . It was a really , really bad game , and this is why I thought that Sebelinka would win , because she doesn't typically make those errors .

Speaker 2

Right .

Speaker 1

It was a great match on Saturday and then on Sunday , recapping . Going back to that , with this one , alcaraz . I believe he's 21 or 22 . He's young . You can tell he's going to be one of the best players overall in tennis . Best players overall in tennis when we talk about the Djokovic's and the Federer and Nadal's . His name is going to be Murray's . His name is going to be up there eventually , and center two as well . They're young . They will be there for years and years to come .

Speaker 1

So it's just great to sit and watch a full match like that . Now , center , some would say , hey , you got to finish , you got to close this thing out . But Alcarez opinion , he is the best player , uh , you know , in men's tennis . So this is definitely one that , uh , I , I love the full weekend and this was clay season and now we're on to grass season , which wimbledon is coming up in about a month , month and a half , and then the us open later down the road . So tennis is is my thing I love . I know I'm I'm going on and on , but , but this is my wheelhouse man and I loved every second of it .

Speaker 2

Well , I'm glad you're enlightening me . For a fan like myself who's borderline not interested , this was an epic weekend . My mother-in-law played tennis back in the 60s in high school , but it's one of those things where , when I grew up , it was McEnroe as a reference , it was Jimmy Connors , born George , a German , and then , of course , martina Navratilova and Chris Everett back in the early to mid-80s , late 80s . But Coco Gauff , as you referenced man , that lady , her opponent , has to be more classy . You know , don't just go up there saying that it wasn't Coco Gaul , it was more you and that unforced errors . Just be classy about it .

Speaker 2

And as you referenced Marlon , for the tennis lovers out there , people are trying to get in there . They don't want to hear this BS because when she wins , so blink her , they're courteous to her . So this was a massive upset and just call it like it is You're the number one rank in the world and you're a huge favorite . I don't think I've ever seen a favorite that huge . And Coco Koff came back from a set down and beat your ass . So you know , props to her .

Speaker 1

But yeah , but you know hey , she's used to winning and it's hey , you're not going to always play your best tennis . It doesn't matter what surface it is hard , clay , grass , it doesn't matter what it is You're always not going to play your best tennis . And in this case you just didn't capitalize off of some of the errors , because Coco didn't play perfect either . Like I said , with her serve it's not always the best serve . Her second serve is sometimes it's only 70 miles per hour , which is atrocious . But you know you don't want to double fault and have that many errors . But hey , it is what it is . But you're not always going to play your best tennis . On any given day you can go and run through all these other people in the first , second and third round , but you're going to come across your Iga Svirantec , your Rabikinas , your Madison Keys , your Pagoulas . Your a ton of them . Polonis , you're going to come up with , or Paulini , excuse me , you're going to come up and face some of these better competition players and you're not always going to win . But yeah , she's a powder , she's very smashing rackets and all that . That's just who she is . But you don't see other women do that . But she's used to winning and whenever she didn't get her way . She just wants to sit there and pout Overall . Yeah , definitely looking forward to women's coming up soon , as I said earlier . So we definitely will look forward to that .

NHL Finals: Oilers vs Panthers

Speaker 1

All right , so on to some NHL . We got Florida in the Oilers , doc . What are your thoughts on ? What are we on right now ? Game three is tonight .

Speaker 2

Yeah , game three is tonight , brother , and you know I'm dialed in , brother . I go back to USA versus Canada thing and Alex Ovechkin's chase for the gold record over Gretzky . This has got my attention now I was a borderline fan , Now I'm all in because of Big Ant and , of course , the media attention relative to Conor McDavid and the Oilers . You know the second coming of Wayne Gretzky . You know , because , remember , wayne Gretzky was young in the early 80s for the same Edmonton Oilers team , but Florida , florida's giving them the bitch man . They Edmonton Oilers team , but Florida , florida's giving them the bitch man . They're giving them problems because remember the Panthers , they've won it a couple of times , if memory serves me correct . So they're split 1-1 and I think they're playing now in fact .

Speaker 2

But it goes noted man , connor McDavid is one of the youngest stars in the league and people say he's the fastest skater in the history of sport . You know , know , I'm not privy to some of the history of the game relative to bobby orr and mario lemieux . I know a name you know and you know sid sidney crosby , sid the kid , but uh , I'm still trying to learn the game as far as power play . But I'm I'm pulling for conor mcdavid man . This would be the coup de grace for him . You know , as far as far as being a great player in Edmonton and all that you know . I know it's Canada , but it's one of those things that will be good for the sport if the best player in the game , or second best after Alex Ovechkin , wins it all . You know it's an entertaining series , man . You know winning on the road is a bitch , though , and Florida's done that . So yeah , let's do it .

Speaker 1

Did you give your actual prediction on who you got winning on this one ?

Speaker 2

No , I haven't . I think Edmonton is going to win in six and I'm giving all the respect in the world to Florida Panthers , but Edmonton , they did suffer a significant injury to one of the main contributors . He's out and that happened last week . I forget his name , so maybe that plays in the Florida's favor . You know I don't have nothing against the Florida Panthers . You know I've lost nothing in Florida relative to hate or discontent . I just want to see good hockey to get me into this sport , you know . And in the late 70s we had Willie Pledg for the Atlanta Flames and then the Flames left in 81 or 82 , I forget and went to Calgary . So it was a little bit of hockey in the South at that time . Then it came back and they were the Thrashers . So yeah , I'm just getting back into it and I credit . As I referenced to USA versus Canada four or five months ago .

Speaker 2

Yeah so I'm going with Edmonton .

Speaker 1

Okay , I love it . All right , so now we're switching over to the NBA

NBA: Coach Thibodeau's Firing

Speaker 1

. We weren't on last week , so we have some major news .

Speaker 2

well , I guess to recap and go over , and I believe this is where Doc goes ahead and gets it off his chest- man in the big market and coach Thibodeau brought that team to the playoffs last year , went to the second round , was devastated by injuries . This year they made it to the eastern conference finals . Now you can fault them for a lot not playing the bench or making some moves late against Indiana but you don't fire the guy , man . This is a franchise that is hungry for continuity . You know , two days after they made the eastern conference finals in in Game 6 , I think , or maybe in Game 5 , you blow the guy out .

Speaker 2

Now you've got to pretty much start over , and Brunson was overly in favor of Coach Thibodeau . Man , this is something that you don't do and I heard that the owners are tripping up there . He's always been a trip , but Coach Thibodeau is the best thing they had going , given that for two decades and a half they've done nothing since Ewing was in the league and missed the layup against Houston . That thing's just ridiculous stuff . And granted , there's the rivalry and all that you lost to the Indianas a great rivalry in the NBA but it shows no class , no know-how on how to treat people . As far as continuity goes , they got Cat because of Thibodeau , you know they got the other Cat his name escapes me . They gave up five number ones because of Coach Thibodeau .

Speaker 2

Yeah , yeah . And so now , with a new coach , you're going to have to say well , we're going into a new system . Do we need those players that we get major capital to ? We can't even make a trade if we want Giannis Antetokounmpo , you know , because they have nothing . So I just disagree with him , not even a Knicks fan . But in a big market like that man , a guy that's taking you to back-to-back deep playoff runs the previous year on an insane injury , this year you was healthy . You know that's crash , that's , that's classless . So yeah , there , you go right there , doesn't ?

Speaker 1

doesn't make any sense . As you said , in , in 25 years you've went as furthest as you've been . Um , you know maybe what is he too ? Top heavy with the starters , not not really relying on the bench , like you know what is it ? It's . It's to me it's a no-brainer to obviously keep him because you're going obviously in the right direction , um , but now , yes , you're right , you have to start over . And then new systems , new schemes , uh , you know drafting . Do they try to just blow it up and make some make some trades is cat out there . You know , like what are you going to do going forward ? So I'm just outside of looking in .

Speaker 1

I'm intrigued as to what their next steps are , and they better make it further , because boston's probably going to get blown up , which we know , but I think they'll still be relevant . Um is the 76ers . We can only hope , with them shutting down their superstars , that they're going to be back . Um . Milwaukee we'll see what goes on with Giannis , to see if he stays . Kevin Durant we'll see if he's somewhere on the East Coast . Miami's going to be a team that's going to be relevant . So there's a lot of teams . I know I'm missing . The Cavs are still going to be there . Yeah , shoot the Pacers . So there's at least going to be five or six teams that will start off somewhat better , because they're not starting over .

Speaker 2

So they're already a step ahead of you because not dealing with new coaches ?

Speaker 1

Because you know , nowadays new coaches do they really hit it off the week one or year one , or does it take some time ? So yeah , we'll see . We'll see how that works , but I don't know . They better at least make it to the finals next year , because if not , what are we doing ?

Speaker 2

Well , the rumor is Jason Kidd , down in Dallas , is going to entertain the offer . But they got to trade for Jason Kidd because he's on the contract and I think that general manager down there pissed off Jason Kidd with the Luka trade way back when . So it's one of those things where Nick's trade for him . You know what . Are they going to give up to go back to Dallas ? You know their capital as a restaurant is short . Are you going to give up the big man ? Are you giving up Mitchell Robinson ? Are you going to give up some other players ? You've got to keep Cat , you've got to keep Brunson . Who else you going to give up , man ? So I don't know . We'll see how New York go . This is the biggest market in the world and you like to see New York stay relevant and consistent . I don't personally agree with Coach Thibodeau on some of his things , but I'm not a fan . But to blow him out like that , that was classless , you know , and that's going to end up being a mistake , trust me All right .

Speaker 1

So on to the NBA Finals . Game three is Wednesday night . Yeah , it's interesting , they get a little more of a break . Game three is Wednesday . Game four is Friday . They're taking off for Father's Day . They're kicking back game five to Monday . They got some rest time in between these these games . But of course game one , indiana pulls it off with that last second shot . I believe that was the the point . Three seconds was the only time that they were up in the game , so that was pretty cool . And then game two . I think we knew OKC was going to have that bounce back game . And then game two . I think we knew OKC was going to have that bounce back game . So here we are going into week three . But before just your recap of game one and game two , don .

Speaker 2

Well , I'll tell you , man , game one was one of the best games we've seen as far as one team being on the road and doing what they did . It begs the question is Tyrese Halliburton known as a superstar ? I think he is . Tyrese Halliburton known as the superstar ? I think he is . You don't go five for five the last two years , four this year , where you hit game winners sitting in overtime or winning a win the game with seconds left . I think he's a superstar . You don't have to be a superstar , marlon , to average 38 games and be a ball heart . You can affect the game many ways . This guy is clutch . He's Mr Clutch for that particular team . The rest of the NBA is like some insane 176 losses and three wins with the same kind of scenario . And here you got a guy in Tyrese Halliburton that his peers call him overrated . He's five for five in those moments , big moments On the road . He killed Cleveland three times on the road , dispatched Milwaukee and you know what he did to the New York Knicks on the road , going up 2-0 with one of them with the last second shot . Now you go OKC , who had 68 wins , who only had one loss versus the Eastern Conference on the road . And then he does this on the road in OKC and people have the nerve to say , is this guy a superstar ? I think he is . You don't do this . Go five for five the last two years or year and a half with everything clutch and then not be a superstar in and of itself . We're not asking him to be LeBron or Kobe or Jordan or even Kareem or Magic . This guy is who he is for his particular team and I think , going back to Indianapolis Marlon , they can win two games easily at the crib . You know , because they keep coming , they keep coming and if OKC don't have their heads screwed on right , they're going to come back to OKC . I mean , yeah , okc down 3-1 .

Speaker 2

You know , I picked OKC before the season . I had OKC in Cleveland , I had OKC winning it , the Thunder . But to me the pressure is on OKC and not the Indiana Pacers . People don't buy into the Pacers . Even now , even after all they've done , people are not buying into them . But I've got to stay consistent relative

NBA Finals: Thunder vs Pacers

Speaker 2

to OKC winning it at all . But it goes noted , man . You know Tyrese Halliburton , miles Turner . You know the name Neesmart , nate Smith , all those cats , man , you know they're for real and they even got a bench . Rick Carlisle is underrated . So what I'm saying is OKC has to at least minimum get a split , and that goes without saying .

Speaker 1

On the road in Indianapolis they got the best record for a reason , so it's going to be entertaining to say the least , and this is going to lead into your point , but in the playoffs , just in general , when you look at all these teams and you look at the big star or stars that they have , when you look at the Thunder , of course , sga , the Nuggets , you got Jokic Clippers . You got Jokic Clippers , you want to throw Kawhi , maybe Harden in there . Lakers , of course , obviously , lebron Luka , the Timberwolves , you have Ant-Man and even Randall , to a certain extent . Warriors , of course , steph Curry , Bucks with Giannis Brunson , with the Knicks , and then you look at the Celtics Tatum , and Brown .

Speaker 1

And then with Cleveland you got I'll just forget the guy's name , but all of these players have stars and maybe with the Pacers , Halliburton is just not a sexy name . They have a good squad around him , but he doesn't take over games like these guys do and he's just not . He's not necessarily a big market . He's not uh , you know a household name , if you will . But you know , yeah , but to your point , he's doing everything to get his team above and beyond and they're never favored in all these games . And here they are . Nobody's expecting them to win , they're not even supposed to be here . But look at where they're at now and at this point , yeah , you got to say he is a win or lose for this finals . With what he's done up until this point , some big shots that he's made , taking over some games . He's still not a a sexy name player as all the other guys I just listed , but he's doing everything else he has a great team behind him , but he's still doing everything else and taking this team to the finals .

Speaker 2

Well , that's a good point , Marlon . I'm glad you brought that up , because he does average like double digits . One time he scored 14 points and had 10 assists . If you want to see 25 or 30 a game , he's not that player . He can take over the game in many other ways and they do have a team . Now , coach Rick Carlisle man , he has to get respect because remember in Dallas when he won it all , he had Dirt and Whiskey and he had that guard . I forget the guard's name , but was it Jason Kidd ? It might have been .

Speaker 2

But I don't know but this is a guy that's their deepest bench man . I mean , their bench is deep . And now you're going back to the Indiana Pacers a basketball hotbed , you know , in Indiana and it remains to be seen . And I know what OKC did in the regular season Marlon , but this is the postseason . On the road tied up 1-1 . You gave one up the crib . Can you get one back ? Yeah , can you get one back ? The way the Pacers came to your crib and stole one , I think they can get two . They had the best record for a reason , but this is a Pacers team that just knows how to mess things up per se and blow you up . So , yeah , I think OKC will be doing better if they get at least one , preferably game three , because , like you said , there are long stretches between game three and game four . So you know , uh , okay , she's still kind of young now , so you don't want them playing in their mind and and paces run . They play that venice beach ball make or break .

Speaker 1

They're on the road , they're running the other way , yeah , you know , so we'll see how it goes Yep , and both home courts are pretty hard to play on tough atmospheres . So it's definitely I'll be . I'm very happy to see you know at least game three and four . See how it plays out . See how home court advantages Can OKC get home court back . So it'll be a good matchup . So I'm excited to see it . What do you have ? You got OKC and six .

Speaker 2

OKC and six before the season started . I can't go back now after what transpired , so I'm remaining with that , yeah because I don't think anybody had this on their bingo card .

Speaker 1

Uh , the thunder and the pacers in the finals . So , yeah , if you , uh , you got that , you got to keep it there . So okay all right , anything else on nba before we jump over to some NFL .

Speaker 2

No , no , nothing else . We did the thing with NBA ,

NFL: Aaron Rodgers Signs with Steelers

Speaker 2

let's do it .

Speaker 1

All right Now with the NFL . The news we finally . This happened last week , I believe it happened over the weekend , if I'm not mistaken but Rodgers finally signed one year about $10 million . I think he can maybe get a couple million more about $10 million , I think he can maybe get a couple million more . He's going to wear his number eight . I believe he should be showing up to mandatory camp . If not , it's today or tomorrow . So your thoughts on Rodgers finally deciding that he wants to play Doc ?

Speaker 2

Well , I'm proud of the Pittsburgh Steelers fans finally got their guy . You don't want to go in the training camp with Mason Rudolph and the other cat and you traded for DK Metcalf , but you let George Pickens go . So we keep expecting the 2011 to 2014 Aaron Rodgers . He's not that guy , but be that as it may , even at age 41 , he's better than what they had prior to him signing . So , you know , mason Rudolph at is everybody's third-string quarterback , you know . But Aaron Rodgers man , you would like to think that he has some magic in his arm and his knowledge and skills . You know , they don't have a running game of no in Pittsburgh , whereas with the Jets they at least have Allen , you know , and the kid from Iowa State his name escapes me , but I just think that we're going to find this one-year deal for a reason .

Speaker 2

A guy missed some throws last year with the Jets and he had a star receiver for Ohio State . Yeah , and it's one of those things where you only got DK Metcalf , you got Fryer moved to tight end . Pittsburgh's offensive line has been beat up , you know , and they ran the ball with Najee Harris , who's now with the Chargers . So can Aaron Rodgers still win a game late in the fourth quarter when the running game's not working ? Or are they going to tee off because the offensive line has been beat up and insufficient the last two or three years ? Maybe it's been the quarterback play , but Russell Wilson at least could move around . We don't see that from Aaron Rodgers anymore because of the injury and prior to that he's just old man , but he's still better than what they have with Mason Rudolph . And this is where you question why they didn't even go after a young quarterback in the draft , whether it was Shadur Sanders , you know , or even Tyler Shaw who was with the Saints Anybody you know they should have they .

Speaker 1

Basically I don't know what they were . They should have really got Shador If you knew that you were going to move off of Rodgers and Wilson .

Speaker 1

I'm sorry , wilson and Fields you needed to at least address it with a formidable quarterback that can fit in your offense . And , ok , you don't want to waste the first rounder on your door , fine , second , third , fourth , you know you could have got them him at that point . Now you go ahead and you wait for hold on on Rodgers . At this point you want to look back and say , man , we really should have kept either of those two quarterbacks that we had , because in my opinion , they're younger , they're faster , um , since they can maybe move around and create their own uh shot , if you will . As far as making separation from the players , and I mean I would have , I would have loved Justin Fields back there again without any . You know , for what did he get with the Jets ? Two years , you know , 20 million .

Speaker 2

Something like that . But in his defense he wanted out . They offered him a contract not commiserate with the Jets , but that pissed him off so bad mentally that he was out anyway . Now the Russell Wilson thing . To me it takes a year to really acclimate yourself . He was solid , if nothing else . Now he fell apart in the playoffs in the division rival Baltimore where he was pathetic . But that's Baltimore's defense . But now you go into a brand-new thing where he's pretty much a drop-back passer when an offensive line is used to run blocking because of Najee Harris .

Speaker 2

I don't know who the running back is , you know up in Pittsburgh , but it's one of those things where , after losing Najee Harris , the offensive line is used to run blocking . You know they're not used to pass blocking with an immobile Aaron Rodgers . He still has some arm talent there . So DK Metcalf is going to have to be wide receiver one . They're paying him as such and we'll see how it go . You know Fry and Luther is going to be a key . So it's big Darnell Washington , six , seven tight end from Georgia and it's going on his fourth year . But it remains to be seen with that offensive line which is used to run blocking can pass block consistently , given that Aaron Rodgers really does have a running back of note to hand the ball off to , you know . So we'll see in that regard .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I think it's Warren is going to be the guy now . So , um , but then a good one two punch last year with Warren and um , so you know , hey , we , we got nausea in a one-year deal , so I'll take every part of it and , uh , we got him and then Amarion Hampton , so I'm hoping that we can have somewhat of a decent one-two punch like they did last year on that . And speaking of the Chargers , jk Dobbins , I thought we would bring him back because the guy , the guy did decent . We had him for one million dollars last year and he still put up some of the numbers that he put up . He did get hurt being out for about maybe four games or so , but he still was fairly decent with us and the numbers that he put up . He did get hurt being out for about maybe four games or so , but he still was fairly decent with us .

Speaker 1

The thing that you hate to see the most is him . Go to your rivalry , somebody in your division . He is signed with the Broncos now . They probably signed him for maybe $3 , $4 , $5 million in one year and just run him to the ground . I can't blame him for it . So , um , so in other news , um any any updates on kirk cousins no , no , right now we got some ota minicamps going on right there .

Speaker 2

We'll probably have to wait until august when somebody's starter goes down , because everybody knows we're desperate not to want to play that massive salary that he has going into his second year in Atlanta . They know we were trying to get rid of him . So teams are holding on to what they got in draft capital or otherwise to let us sweat it out up until August . You know , if we release him that salary cap , you know for at least three years . But if we trade him and the other team takes some of the heat or some of that money , you know gotta help . But so our teams know that they're smart , so they're gonna wait until somebody goes down and camp something of that nature . It's clearly Michael Pinnock's team and by all accounts he's taking control of this thing and guys are working on their own with him . And the small sample size , of course , because we didn't make the playoffs but three games . The arm talent's there . You saw my UW and B John Robinson's looking for a big year . We'll see how these rookie defenders who we drafted are going to do . I'm looking to see the entire rookie class , in fact Excellent first round man . I want to see what the running back for the Raiders do . You know I want to see the wide receiver McMillan . Arizona is going to team up with Bryce Young . You know I want to see your guy Hampton how he teams up with Najee . Harris is more of a plugger . You got some big offensive linemen . Maybe Dallas' Booker out of alabama at 350 , 355 , almost 360 . How is he gonna do protecting that ? So up and down the first round it's going to be a lot of story lines , including the bears champion of new mexico's bears . You know they have some good things . Go their way too . You know , uh , relative to the first round of the draft . But what's his name ? Jair Alexander left Green Bay . Yep , Uncircumcisedly so . Marlon , we got to hit on this because Green Bay's defense was spotty to begin with last year . They was hoping on an uptick . You let one of your best cornerbacks go . He still got some tread on the tire . What is he ? 29 , 30 ? I think there was an attitude Thing there . He got tired of Green Bays for some reason . So We'll see what that goes on .

Speaker 2

And Nick Chubb Signed with the Texans . Brother , you know I'm pulling for Nick Chubb , but when you had three major injuries to a knee , One at Georgia , two in the league . We'll see what . He got there To help out CJ Stroud . I don't think he's a starter . I think the Cincinnati running back is going to be the starter . But I hope Chubb has at least some contribution where he can run for 600 , 650 in 17 weeks . He's only 28 , 29 , something like that . He came out of Georgia early but the injuries you know as a runner or ex-runner how these things go , so we'll see .

Speaker 1

Oh yeah then . Uh , it's still interesting to see kenan allen still out there , marie cooper still out there , so there's still a lot of big names , uh , that are still out there that have not been signed yet . So , uh , yeah , I can't . I don't know if kenan's waiting for the right , the right team , the right you know financial amount , wanting to move closer back to home uh , did the Bears even offer him anything to come back ? So I wonder how that's going to play out .

Speaker 2

Well , marlon , before we move on , jackson Dart for the Giants . What do you expect ? Is Russell Wilson going to do the thing for 17 games , or are they going to get tired of him ? And then my second thing with you is Brody . Uh , what's the name for the san francisco 50 ?

Speaker 1

million rock purdy . Yeah , what are you expecting ?

Speaker 2

out of there and can cmc stay healthy to help out property . You'll call on that before we move on I'll start with with the niners .

Speaker 1

Um , I I think with them we've seen them do somewhat of a little mini rebuild with trading away and , uh , you know , getting some cap space , not fully rebuilding . I mean , they still got a cmc , they still have kiddo um , but iuk um , you know he's I don't even know if he's going to be fully healthy , which I don't , I don't anticipate . You know , um , debo's gone , so I think they'll be decent enough . Their , their division isn't really top heavy as it used to be . Uh , arizona , arizona's , uh , you know , you can , you know you can beat Arizona , you can beat Seattle , I don't care if you have , you know , sam Darnold , now you can beat those two teams the Rams are going to . They should win the division , they should run away with it . So I think in this , with that extra team , they maybe have a slot to get that last playoff team . But with Purdy you got the money now , so now you have to , you got to take over games now . So that's , that's , that's the expectation for you is to be what we paid you to be . So , um , but I think they'll at least be competitive , at least within the nfc , to get to that last spot .

Speaker 1

Now onto the giants . I think with with theants , they want Dart to be the guy , just not now . I think they'll at least let Russ ride it out . Yeah , because you've got your neighbors and you have some other weapons too as well Tracy in the running back position . So I think they'll let him run it out . They've got to let him figure it out .

Speaker 1

As you said earlier , it takes at least a year to kind of figure out some of these systems out . As you said earlier , it takes at least a year to kind of figure out some of these systems you don't just go into . There's not too many situations where you're a tom brady to where you go into a new system and you win your first year . Yeah , that doesn't really happen at all . So I think they'll let him work it out . He is that veteran presence that you want inside that locker room . But , of course , if the giants are being what the giants have always been and end up , you know , halfway through the season , only have two wins , what do you have to lose to let the kid go out there and play and see what he's got ?

Speaker 2

That's a very good point . Good answer , brother . Good response . I can't wait to train the cap . Just stay away from injuries for everybody and the OTAs . Let's get to training camp healthy and then God bless each team and all our friends' teams . I know you beg to differ with Raider S and my wife but you don't want to see anybody get hurt . Let's do it , man . We're only like a month and a half away . This is June , so late July is when they all open .

Speaker 1

Well , and not to mention too as well . July 31st we got that first Hall of Fame game , that's right . So July 31st we play Detroit . That is the first official game , so I'm definitely excited about that and looking forward to seeing some fifth and sixth stringers out there playing , so to see if we have some hidden talent out there . So we'll be looking forward to that . So all right . So baseball , the Yankees and Red Sox recap what do you got

MLB: Yankees vs Red Sox Rivalry

Speaker 1

on that ?

Speaker 2

Oh yeah , I love that . I love it , arguably the best rivalry in all of sports man , going way back to his early 70s and 60s . You know , aaron Judge man , he's doing this batting 396 . That's 23 bombs . He had two bombs yesterday and he lost to the Red Sox . And I love Cora , the Red Sox manager , but they're missing something . You know , rafael Devis hit two bombs yesterday too in New York and I think they come back this weekend and play in Boston . But it goes noted , man , this is a hated rivalry and I don't want Cora to lose his job over some friction in that locker room because Devis doesn't want to move to another position or he's a de-agent with the other cat and I think that pitching has been a problem and all that . So Corey has some things on his hand .

Speaker 2

Now . The Yankees you know they're doing pretty decent being in first place after losing the big guy , the big pitcher , you know . So Max Reed from Atlanta is holding the court , but you need Stanton . You need Stanton to help out Judge . Judge has nobody protecting him . He's still putting up numbers , but can he sustain that ? And these are the Yankees , man , you know . And the AL Seattle's doing good , you know .

Speaker 2

But to get back to your question , it was an entertaining series . Boston took two out of three in New York , you know . And they still what ? Almost 10 games back or 90 , I don't know , maybe seven or eight , I haven't checked the standards . But you know , baseball is good when the Yankees and the Red Sox and the AL is doing good man , and to have that rivalry and the sense of Cleveland Guardians and the AL is doing good man , and to have that rivalry and the sense of Cleveland Guardians and the AL is doing good . Marlon , you got Seattle as a reference and don't forget about the Texas Rangers . You know , and so we'll see how it transpires in the AL going forward , houston , houston's lagging behind , but they got a lot of talent , you know , so we'll see how it goes , brother you know , oh , detroit , I'm not .

Speaker 2

The Tigers are the best record in baseball . Detroit , it's Mary Zimmerman's Detroit Tigers . I forgot to mention the Tigers . Shame on me . They got the best pitcher in baseball man . You know , this guy ain't no joke Shoot A reigning Cy Young Award winner . The Tigers Detroit .

Speaker 1

That's Jack Morris . And then over to the NL Champs Cubbies are looking good . 40 wins , yes . And then we won't talk about the Braves too much .

Speaker 2

No , it's a disgrace , I think . Alex Antopoulos , to be fair , weighing in on this , he bit off more than he can chew . Man , you don't give up a Max Reed in a sport that doesn't have a salary cap . He goes to the Yankees 8-1 , with a 1.64 ERA , and Spencer Strider , who was supposed to be an off and on in the field because the injury is coming back from a significant thing . But you know we're 14 back . We won tonight and I'm not looking to . We got to catch the Mets and Philly and that's not a good thing when you're 14 back . In June we would have to go on a ridiculous run In the second half .

Speaker 2

Now you mentioned the Cubbies . They're in a tough division With St Louis and Milwaukee . Of course the Brewers have been red hot recently . They beat the Cubbies yesterday , In fact I think I know Cub . The Brewers have been red hot recently . They beat the Cubbies yesterday , in fact I think I know Cubbies lost .

Speaker 2

But there's one other thing , that particular division man , baseball royalty . You know , when I think of the Brewers , I think of Robin Young , you know , and when I think of the Cubs I think of Sean Dunstan and Mark Grace and St Louis . You think of a lot of players , man , Willie McGee , Vince Coleman you can go through the names but In the National League West , You're West , you play the Dodgers . As we speak , I think you're down 5-3 . I don't know what's going on with the Probably start off like a house on fire and the Dodgers have slipped somewhat , but it goes noted . Man , this thing is Going the distance . I'm not giving up on either one of you guys in the National League West , but you've got to add Arizona Diamondbacks to that thing too , you know . So , the Giants , the Giants .

Speaker 1

So you really go four deep yeah .

Speaker 2

You're four deep in the division Marlon , so you really got to bring it .

Speaker 1

You know , and I believe this is the first time we're facing off this year , so this is the first time we're facing off this year . So it's always a back and forth . Yeah , it is . Whenever we play each other , it's always something special . So you know , and every time I tell Estes I say you know , this is , unfortunately , this is our World Series . Whenever we play you guys and we played them a couple years back and beat them in the playoffs , that was our World Series , like that , was it ? If we beat them , sadly enough , that's good enough for us , just like with the Chargers . If we beat the Chiefs , we won , we're good . Yeah , yeah , I feel you , brother . We just got to just get over that hump and actually win and sustain this because , as you said , it's going to be a dogfight going down to the wire with this division .

Speaker 2

Well , you know each other so well . You was up 2-1 in the playoffs last year . Unfortunately for you , the Dodgers came back and they had no winner to thank . This year , just carry it . You got the personnel , Machado Tatis , you got some other cats , you know Merriman , or whatever his name is . You know you're down 5-3 in the third right now at home , and that's a beautiful ball . I love petco park .

Speaker 2

It's just so damn far you know , but you want one of those things where I'm looking for this thing to be entertaining , going down the stretch , because the dodgers have been faltering man , despite the massive payroll , you know , and kershaw's been tripping with with ineffectiveness and they got a big contract with him . But you know we'll see how it go Again . Don't discount the Arizona Diamondbacks man , and I know they had a big injury . I think Corbin Burns is out for the year with Tommy John , unfortunately , but you know Arizona ain't no joke either . And then the Giants . I don't know if it's Omar B Kelly Now listen , I don't know if it's that or Marby Cali , it's not listed . I don't think they'll sustain this kind of success in the second half but you never know , man .

Speaker 2

That's what's the fun about baseball , yeah .

Speaker 1

Yeah , and then the last thing I got for you , you know , it's well two things . So I'm going back home in about three weeks and of course I always try to go to Petco Park whenever I can . And it just so happens that 4th of July weekend , when I'm going to be back home , the Padres out of all places are going to be here playing the Rangers . And I'm like , come on , man , I can't catch a break . And then I'm going to be back in San Diego later that month , in July , and it just so happens that Padres are going to be out of town . I think they're going to be in Pittsburgh or something . So it's killing me .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I hope we get a chance Fourth of July we'll book with family and all that . But late in July I'll drive down there to see you . No question , maybe we'll do a show down there .

Speaker 1

So that's another thing I was going to think about is Padres . I'm sorry . The Chargers have an open training camp out there and it was going to be that Friday . I was going to be out there , I think on the 19th or something like that , so I was thinking about driving up there and driving back , but I don't know . I'm debating on doing it , but as it gets closer I'll definitely let you know . But on a more serious note , how bad is it getting out there

Current Events in Los Angeles

Speaker 1

with the cops ? Yeah , yeah , how bad is it getting out there it mainly happens .

Speaker 2

The peace will do it today and rioters at night . That's the way it is , and the mayor of LA is pleading with the administration not to bring these tanks and federal you know National Guard , because that incites these people . Man , because you know , a you're breaking up families , you know , and doing that , and not even to see their kids and wives after you put them in detainment , except on the back back and then , b , you know you're not positive in race relations for people out here , relative to well , everywhere in the country , and the administration and the mayor of LA said this you don't want to incite people when families are broken up . You know , everybody know what Trump is and who he is , and it's one of those things where you know it's really gotten dangerous to the point where even a regular passerby is in danger . They lighten up cars and police cars and this , that and the other at night , not during the day . These government buildings are under fire , you know , and even bringing in the Marines , you know , to do some things , but it's a bad situation , man , relative to that , and the administration needs to step up and cool this thing down , as the mayor of la said .

Speaker 2

You know it could be some fatalities if nothing is done to quell some of this anger and angst . That's the word I'm looking for , you know . So it's one of those things where you hate to get political , but it is when you're the head man in DC . You gotta be accountable to some of this stuff , you know . And you know , give some aid or give some reasoning , give some leadership on what transpiring all across the country , not just LA , you know , but it's one of those things where it's become a dangerous situation with ICE . And then you got the thing that oversees Israel and the protests about that , and the administration is lagging behind and trying to quell some of those feelings relative to the peaceful protests on campus , ucla , uc Irvine and all that . So now you got a double thing here and uh , you know you don't want anybody to get hurt , but uh , these things are gonna not gonna stop anytime soon , man , you know .

Speaker 1

So we'll see what's up , it gets , it gets worse and worse , and , and you know , militaries , uh , marines are coming out there and all that stuff . Yeah .

Speaker 2

Yeah , yeah , brother , I've seen it all Some of these military people . They've seen Afghanistan , Iraq . I've seen Desert Storm in the early 90s . You don't need to be doing all this , man . You know all you have to do is get a whole massive press conference to nationwide a press conference , you know . You bring in the National Guard and tanks . That's not good , you know that's not good . It reminds well , it doesn't remind me really to you . I'm not as old as you think , but the 60s , during the Civil Rights Movement out here in LA , was really bad , with all this National Guard . That's what some of the older people said . That's what some of the older people said . That's what it reminds them of .

Speaker 2

You know , you know what I'm saying . Yeah , so out here in LA At that time during the Civil Rights Movement it was all over the country Detroit , atlanta , philly , chicago but out here in LA it was really bad in the 60s with the National Guard and some of my elders say reminds them of you know , they're still people , man . You know bottom line Families . So we'll see how it go going forward .

Speaker 1

Yeah , okay , well , hey , will you , as always , you know , I know you and family , you know , stay safe and all that , but don't get broke up . Thank you , brother , and all that . But yes , hopefully everything gets better . But in the meantime we got NHL finals , we got NBA finals , we have some baseball , so we'll at least have some stuff that we can watch to kind of take our mind off of everything when we go outside in the daytime and at night .

Speaker 2

Yeah , absolutely , brother . Thank you , and we're safe out here . We hate to get political , but we just can't turn a blind eye on our show to what's going on , because some of our listeners might be in the crowd out there , you know . So we'll just keep praying and see what's going on here and hope everything for the best . That's all we can do .

Speaker 1

Absolutely All right . You got anything else for us today ?

Speaker 2

No , it was a great show show , given that we missed a week and the typical thing sticks out not even being a Knicks fan , but that was just wrong . I ain't got nothing else , man . We did the baseball NFL Rodgers so we're gonna do this thing again soon , cause it's getting down to the nitty gritty in the NBA playoffs and in NHL too . Man , this was fun absolutely alright .

Speaker 1

well , appreciate you guys for listening and joining . We'll catch you guys next week . Peace , peace .
