SPEAKER_00:

And welcome everybody to another episode of Road Talk Doc. You doing all right today?

SPEAKER_04:

Yes, I am. Yes, I am. We're glad to have a special guest who do the intro, bro.

SPEAKER_00:

Absolutely. So this is this is one of my closest friends since I moved to Dallas. It's been close to about 20 years. Uh huge, huge Rangers fan, Mavs fan, uh Cowboys fan. And I'm I'm converting them over to a Chargers fan. Uh because the Cowboys are very up and down, but I'll just stop in.

SPEAKER_01:

I'm good, man. It's a pleasure being on. Appreciate you guys having me on today. Yeah, welcome aboard, brother. Let's go.

SPEAKER_00:

Absolutely. So before we guess we have some some action going on already. There's some games that are that have been completed, some games that are still going on. So but but just to give the audience a little bit of a feel. What what's your what was your thought on the regular season? Who did you uh predict to make it to where they are now? What are your thoughts on uh certain teams and and who's the winning the World Series? What was your thoughts on this MLB season, uh Ali, uh that we had this year?

SPEAKER_01:

Man, the uh MLB season uh honestly it was full of surprises. You can tell right now with new playoff format, uh teams that every you know, a lot of people counted out, like the Guardians, like uh the Reds right now that are playing the Dodgers. You know, a lot of people didn't count them in, and you know, they're they're in the thick of things. You know, my Rangers, unfortunately, you know, we had historically the best pitching season and fielding season, but we just couldn't swing the bats this year. So hopefully we're able to get some bats going, uh, get some bats into Texas. But uh, you know, it was a disappointment for Texas fans, but baseball in general, it's been it's been a roller coaster this year, man. You know, the Met, you know, there's a lot of high hopes after they got Juan Soto in the offseason. And uh, you know, that they fell apart. You know, somebody can't buy everything, you know. Everybody can't be the Dodgers or the Yankees, but you know, it was uh it was a roller coaster for me.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, I tell you, bro, that's a good response there. It's one of the most historic seasons individually. You can see I enjoyed it thoroughly, man, whether it was Aaron Judge, Choy O'Tani putting up historic numbers, and Cal Riley. I don't think he came out of nowhere because he had 30-some home runs last year. But uh Cat should have 60 home runs, Dolly. That's something else. And up there in the Pacific Northwest, man, you know, uh, they kind of get lost. But this was a great year. You brought up the Mets, man. And the Mets, you know, they had the best record in baseball in June, you know, and stuff like that. And it totally fell apart, you know, and uh Soto started slow, but he had a great year. 43 bombs, almost 40 stolen bases, but pitching gave them in. And how about the Tigers, Ollie? You know, they start out like a house of fire 14 games up before the All-Star break, 10 and a half in September, and they almost didn't make it. You know, they lost the division to Cleveland. So, you know, you gotta give uh the baseball their props, man. We knew the Dodgers would be there, Ollie, and you knew the Yankees would somehow make it, but uh, you know, um, it's one of those things where this was unpredictable. But the historic seasons by Cal Wright, you know, and and and uh Aaron Judge and the AL, and then Shoe A Otani, and you gotta give a shout out, Marlon and Ollie, to Kyle Schwartz. He had 57 bombs and over 130 ribbies, you know.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, 57 homers and that, you know, any other year, you know, that would have probably been leading the majors. But Kyle Raleigh, man, like I'm glad you got him on because you know, playing in Seattle, you know, you're not on anybody's radar, really. You know, the Mariners are another story, you know. Like they had, you know, last year they had one of the best pitching stats, but they couldn't they couldn't hit.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

And this year they invested into the end of the trade deadline. They went and got two big names, Suarez and Maylor. And I honestly, and Marlon, you brought up, you know, who I predict there should be in the World Series. And I don't think baseball was like this too much. Well, for ratings, but I have Seattle, and you know, when you put the Dodgers in, you'll get ratings. So I have the Dodgers making half the NL, and I got the Seattle Mariners making half the AL.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, I had the Yankees winning it all. I mean, not the Yankees. I had the Yankees, I mean the Dodgers and the Orios, excuse me. I had the Dodgers and the Orios in the World Series, and Marlin did this show back in April, right before the season, and the Orios fell flat on their face. You know, I bought it to the the I brought into the uh height with Baltimore, was finishing strong. They make the playoffs last year. But you bring up a good point, Ollie, relative to Seattle. This is a franchise, Marlin, where King Griffey Jr. ruled, you know, and Ichiro Suzuki. So it's like, and I think they have great players, but they're putting in the Pacific Northwest, and here comes Cal Riley 60 home runs in such a demanding position catcher, you know, and and so props to him. And uh, you know, taking he's right, he's my MVP. You know, I know Aaron Judge had a great year statistically with the batting average 3.6 or 328 and all that with the homers. I think he had 55, but you know, you can't you can't discount what Cal Rowley did, uh, getting the staff together, calling pitches, then hit 60 bombs on top of that. So yeah, there you go, right there, brother.

SPEAKER_01:

I think he I think he uh I think he had about almost 150 RDIs. That's that's that's crazy, man. Yeah, yeah. That's right, that's right. A lot of runs added in, you know, Judge, Judge is an anomaly, man. He you know, you're not gonna see players like that, you know, too often, you know, but yeah, and he's won the world, you know, won multiple MVPs. You know, he's won multiple MVPs as well. So um I'm playing, man. But Cal Raleigh, by far, he's my MVP this year.

SPEAKER_04:

Oh, that's right, brother. That's right. So Marlon, we just go at the postseasons here and we can get into that, man, because some shocking things happened today.

SPEAKER_00:

So 100%. 100% we have the game, the the for those that are listening who will be listening later tonight and tomorrow, um, the uh the Dodgers uh and the the Dodgers playing right now? The Reds.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, they're playing the Reds.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay, Dodging Reds are right now. So yeah, so we got we got three games going on. So the the uh Doc, what what was your biggest takeaway from the games? A lot of a lot that happened in these three games earlier today. So what was your takeaway in these three games?

SPEAKER_04:

Oh I'm I'm glad you I mean, come on, Ollie, you know the sport. The Yankees were leading one-nothing. And they took out Max Free, took him out, and the bullpen got blown up. And the Red Sox are not really that good as a far as uh the team in general, but they made it and our Red Sox Nation, you know, loves the fact that they blew up uh the Yankees, but the Aaron Boone is Aaron Boone is known to make dumb decisions like that. You know, Crochet is a great pitcher for boss in their age, and it was a great pitcher, man.

SPEAKER_01:

Why would you Well you know, when you look at it, man, their bullpen has been the biggest issue all season. And they at the trade deadline, you know, they they win and got arms. And, you know, those arms, you know, they they've been good. You know, Bednar hasn't been that close to the game, but that's right. I I just don't understand how how bad this bullpen has been. And a lot of it has been on Aaron Boone. And if you talk about a manager being on the hot seat this year, yeah, it's it's probably that man, you know, because you know, they don't go get to the World Series and probably win it, he's out. He I think so.

SPEAKER_04:

But they just re-uffed him though, Ollie. And then it's one of those things where they did it prior to the season. I don't know they regret that now. But my point is this, uh, Marlon and Ollie, is that Matt Street had pitched the seven and a third, and uh they took him out. And he was cruising along with crochet, uh, one-nothing. I have Matt Fried in Atlanta. I'm Atlanta Braves fan for the record, Ollie. And we hate that we lost them given that there's no salary cap in baseball. I don't know why Alex Antopoulos didn't want to resign him or didn't reach out to him, but the guys pitch seven and a third, you yank him, and then the Yankees go down, you know. And the pressure's on them now. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

And you you when you look at it, you know, in the playoffs, yeah. I guess the regular season, if the guy's at 100 pitches, you know, you take him out, you know, because you're preserving him for the fourth pole season if you're a contender. But, you know, Crochet pitched, I think he pitched 115 pitches. Yes, he did.

SPEAKER_03:

117, yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, he was he was hot, you know, but he was he was on his game and they kept him in. You know, they should have said the same with Freed, but you know, Boone, being Boone, you know, he wanted to bring in his relievers that can't hold the lead this year, and that's what happened. I think it's with my boss and I don't I don't see I I do not see how New York left, you know, the media, the fans. You know, I don't know how he keeps his job, man. Like I I just don't I I just don't see it happening, but you never know when New York Yeah, that's a good point, Ollie.

SPEAKER_04:

And to finish off your question, uh real quick, Marlon, how about uh, you know, uh uh what's the name? Uh Scoobyl. Scooby. Terrence Scoobyl. 14Ks, man. And this is after a week ago when he got blown up. And that's how Cleveland won the division, you know, because he's Scooby, he got blown up against the Guardians on Tuesday, and Cleveland won the division, but he comes back and gives you 14K for the Tigers, who almost collapsed and didn't make it, you know. So props to him. And then your Padres, brother, in uh Martin. I I just I feel for you, brother. You know, uh the Cubbies, man, is big market, second largest market in the world. And they Dennis Swanson made a couple of great plays defensively in Wrigley Field, but I I I still think the Padres can do it. You gotta you gotta make it happen. But those those two things, those three things stick out, you know.

SPEAKER_01:

The stars though. The stars just show up for the Padres. Front Fernandez's not getting a hit today, that's not gonna cut it. Manny Machado not coming through with uh people on base, that's not gonna cut it. You know, you're gonna need those two guys to step up, you know, because pitching, you know, the Padres, starting rotation-wise, you know, they have a decent rotation, but I don't think the pitching's gonna be able to, you know, you win this for them. They're gonna need they're gonna need their back.

SPEAKER_04:

So Yeah, Machado, all that. Yeah, you're right. So to answer your question and synopsis, uh, one was the Yankees class, and then two, how about Terrence uh school, man? 14K's and bringing Detroit, you know, closer to what they thought was. And we all thought Detroit was one of those teams for the Asians and they collapsed. So props to them. Those are the two. And then we'll take it from there, you know. So yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

So now, man, I think he he made a case for uh, you know, being, you know, a Cy Young winner this year, back to back. He won the last year, and I think he'll get this again this year.

SPEAKER_04:

That's right. And the Dodgers are the Dodgers, Marlon. So let's not get it twisted. You know, uh, you know, uh, your boy Tiasco Hernandez hit a 3-1 bomb, followed by Edmund. So, you know, that's another thing.

SPEAKER_01:

That's right.

SPEAKER_04:

That's right. So there you go, right there, Marlon.

SPEAKER_00:

I didn't I I didn't I didn't prepare you guys. Before we jump into the football, I didn't prepare you guys for this question. So I wanted to just test the knowledge because obviously I know you guys love the game, and and you know, baseball is of course one of your favorite sports. So if I were to tell you you can pick three hitters, uh just picker alone for the three of the best hitters, and then of course uh three pitchers, and then let's just do a first, second, and uh third base. So three pitchers, three hitters, and one first, one second, out of uh, uh, out of the whole lead. Out of the whole lead. So this is just me just and I don't prepare you. Typically I prepare you guys for questions like this, but I know you guys are are are lovers of the game. So uh Doc, I'm gonna go ahead and start with you on this one, man. Three three three pitchers, three hitters, first, second, and third baseman.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, three pitches. You gotta go with uh Terrence Schubil, and then uh called Max Fried at 19 wins for the Yankees, you know. Uh and uh you can take a shot at uh, you know, uh gosh, I'm missing one. Well let me let me go to the hitters, man. Okay, we already talked about two of them, Aaron Judge and and and and uh Cal Riley. You gotta put you gotta put Freddie Freeman up there too, man, so it's clutch, you know. And and and he had one of he's getting older, so he didn't have one of those remarkable seasons that he usually do. Yeah, but those are my three right there as hard.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

He's called Money Freddie, man. You know, he's that's right. He's uh Freddie Freeman, man. Mine, I you know, I'll I'll I'll go with you with uh with Tyree School, Garrett Crochet. He's phenomenal this year.

SPEAKER_04:

That's right. That's right.

SPEAKER_01:

And and and I'm gonna say a Texas guy, and he got hurt, but he was having a historic season, man. Nathan Nivaldi. He was he was life out, man. He had a sub two ERA. He was he was pretty much he was tearing us, man. He was he was uh he was a top three candidate for Psy Up before he got hurt. But uh, you know, if he didn't get hurt since he got hurt, I'll put Freed up there, free pitch straight. Yeah. Uh kitty-wise, Raleigh, Judge, and Otani, man. You can't pay Otani like Oshani's the best player in baseball by far.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, you can make that argument. Yeah, that's right. You know, Yankee fans.

SPEAKER_01:

You can put him up there in the pitching too, man. Like, I don't know if you saw his last last couple of darts, but the dude came uh getting 10 strikeouts again.

SPEAKER_04:

That's right, he is. And and and and and he was on a pitch count when he first started pitching and coming back from rehab, but yeah, the guy's touched, man. You know, you can't argue that. So I agree with uh Ollie there. Uh, you know, you know what I'm saying, Marlon. Now, but before you move on, Marlon, I gotta ask you, Ollie. You know, I I I like your manager, Bochi. What the hell went on there? What's what's going on there? You know, he won a World Series two years ago.

SPEAKER_00:

Don't get him started.

SPEAKER_01:

That hurts me so much. I was talking to Marlon about this earlier. Uh Bochi, so I, you know, I was talking to a couple people today, and Bochi's the guy, you know, he he won us a World Series, and I'm gonna root for that man anywhere he goes. You know, if he goes back to San Francisco and tries to get them back in the World Series, I'll root for him in San Francisco because, you know, he brought a World Series championship to Texas after 53 years. Yeah. But, you know, I think what happened with him in the front office is like with the Rangers, we need hitting. And, you know, we need to get younger and our our ownership, you know, the owner doesn't want to spend money. And I think it came down to, hey, we're gonna have a lot, we're gonna have a younger team next year, and um, you know, we're not gonna spend a lot of money. So he was probably like, well, I'm 70-something years old. I gotta, you know, I don't have a few uh lot of years left, so I'm gonna probably take my bag of lead. So I think that's what happened. We're gonna get younger. Um, we're not gonna spend a lot of money in free agency, and you know, he probably wanted the exact opposite. He wanted more veterans, he wanted he wanted them to spend some money and you know, in line with the front office. So our owner, he he, you know, first couple of uh, you know, last like couple of seasons, he spent money, he got the grand here, he got deer here, and he got sending here. Uh but you know, after that, he you know, after we won that title, I think he cashed in and he was like, hey, you know what, I'm gonna per se uh, you know, not spend as much and I'm gonna, you know, the ride the youth that we have.

SPEAKER_04:

So Wow. That's a good response. I just had to ask you.

SPEAKER_01:

It hurts, man. I I love Bochi, man. He's he's gonna be a legend here forever.

SPEAKER_00:

So yeah. Good morning. And then and then last question I got for you baseball wise, what are your predictions for this wild card uh this wild card round? So who do you guys have winning uh making it into the next round to face uh in the NLDS and C S.

SPEAKER_01:

And I got so Dodgers, of course. I got I I got the Cubs winning, man. Like I I think after today, you know, if they keep if they keep playing the way they are, they're gonna probably beat Chapadres Marlin. I'm sorry about that. I got uh I got the Tigers pulling it out. I think, you know, playoffs, they're gonna figure it out. They're gonna they're gonna get to the next round. And after Boston beat the Yankees today, I still have the Yankees coming out and beating them. I they're gonna beat them tomorrow, and I think they'll beat them at home for game three.

SPEAKER_04:

Wow. I'm I'm I'm I I agree with half. I'm I'm taking Cora. I don't trust Boone at all. I'm taking Boston, I'm taking the Tigers in Detroit, you know, because uh this is something. I love Cleveland. Cleveland is a sports town, you know, and part blue collar, Marlon. You already know that. But when they gave it up today, you know, that that that's that's it. You know, Detroit's mad that they gave up the division and then B, School will have 14Ks, and it's one of those things where, you know, in the National League, I kind of agree with you. Uh I think San Diego is gonna bounce back because it just had too much, man. You know, and and and then the other one Dodgers the Dodgers. So there you go, right there. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay, okay, all right. Okay, on to NFL uh week four. Um, so uh it's there there's so much to talk about. Um the the Thursday night football game where Seattle was running away with it, Arizona came back, Seattle wins it. Um, Kenneth game well quick enough that nobody thought that he was gonna be the running back that he was came up out with that. Uh your your Atlantic actually came up with the weekend back up. Uh the buffalo and buffalo or uh the course of the uh you want to talk about it, but it was it was a very, very rough one. Um take uh dark look dark look and uh we'll see what he looks like in the future. Um Philip Philly and Tampa. Uh I don't want to go into all the games, but Philly and Tampa definitely was a great game, so uh for sure as a football fan. So, Doc, what what was something that stuck out to you uh in week four this past weekend?

SPEAKER_04:

Well, Rams Colts, brother, to be honest, which Stafford engineered that two touchdowns late fourth quarter. That was big. And coach were undefeated, too. So you gotta you gotta give them props, man, as far as Stafford. They might do some damage long run, Ali. Also, let's give a shout out to uh New England and Drake May, putting up almost 50 points on a team that blew out Atlanta the previous week, Carolina, you know. Yeah, Drake May, you know, and Trevor and Trevor Henderson, the rookie running back. And then on the other, conversely, on the other end of the spectrum, how about the Raiders blowing another game to the Bears with the league? They was on Caleb Williams' ass and they go on a road and beat the Raiders on the last second field. So you got to feel sorry for the Raiders somewhat. And Marlon, that's a division rival, but how many times can they lose? Devastatingly so, you know? And this is bad. And then, of course, last night, you hate to see Tyree killed in a gruesome injury, and but Miney pulled it out. Yeah, yeah. You hate to see that Speedster playmaker, one of the best players in this league, you know. Mine got off the side and won their first game. So those are the things that stick out. You make you reference my Falcons. What about your charges, Marley? You know, come on, man.

SPEAKER_00:

You know, if the Giants rookie quarterback starting a lot of the things, so that was that was that was one of my biggest uh concerns going into the season, uh going into the this week. Uh we didn't have any film on them, so I didn't know what they had a hold of offensive playbooks, mobile, uh, what's going to be five, just because they have four. We've just got a lot of things. It'll probably come down to the first next week, but it's definitely not happy with the outcome. We we could have come out and tackled a little bit better, had a better game plan, but we we didn't have any film, so it's kind of hard when you don't have any film, you don't know if he's gonna be the the the thrower or the runner. So, but we made some adjustments in the second half, but it was a little too late. Ali.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, I love going around the league. You know, I'm sorry, Ali. You got to give a shout out to the old man Aaron Rodgers for the Steelers. Nobody saw this coming. You know, the Steelers prior to the season, everybody thought 500, nine wins. Here they are three wins in first place. And uh Lamar Jackson's hurt with a hammy. Baltimore's been giving up almost 40 a game defensively.

SPEAKER_01:

So go ahead, Ali. No, their defense hasn't looked good at all. I think they started off the same way last year, though, and they uh figured it out on defense. Uh Lamar Jackson being hurt, that's gonna that's gonna really, you know, things up because Cooper Rush, you know, you know, being a Dallas fan, we saw a lot of Cooper Rush when Dak got hurt. You know, he's a good bus driver. He's he he's definitely a good bus driver when he has weapons and a good defense. But, you know, I don't know if uh if Baltimore's defense can figure it out. I think he can hold together until Lamar gets back in a couple weeks. Uh I'm surprised you guys didn't mention the Green Bay and Dallas game.

SPEAKER_00:

That's we we we wait we saved it for you. We saved it for you.

SPEAKER_04:

Oh man. Uh Dak played a good game, but being who you are, you don't want to tie, not at the crib. But you gotta give uh Dak credit. He's been on him. He's had a solid year. So, but your take on that particular game, man, it was exciting at the end. I blame Green Bay for being conservative at the last drive, yeah, throwing two flats instead of going to the zone. But it is what it is, man. You know, you without without uh C D layup. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_01:

Let me let me ask you this question, man. Like that rule that you know it can end in a tie. You know, college football, I don't watch a lot of it, but yeah, you know, I know ties don't happen in college football.

SPEAKER_00:

Go do five overtimes.

SPEAKER_01:

You know, and how you know how is the NFL at a billion-dollar league, you know, allowing ties. You know, it should be it should be, hey, you know, whoever scores a touchdown at the end, or you know, the the each team should keep going until somebody wins the game. It shouldn't end in the tie. That that that's that rule needs to change.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, I agree with you, Ali, and I'm glad you brought that up because in college, after a first time gonna overtime think more, and they go for two or something, you know, something like that. You gotta go for two. So yeah, uh Dodgers had another home run by Tiasco Hernandez. But yeah, but it's one of those things where, you know, I agree with you. This is the NFL, a billion-dollar industry, and you're real tripping with the tie, Roger Goodell. You know, I I don't like him no way, you know, because he did some things with the flake game, the spike game, then he did some rules, rule changes that messed up the sport. But it goes noted, Ollie. That's a very good point. Uh, your your prospects on your cowboys going forward after the tie. Your call right now.

SPEAKER_01:

Man, I uh you know what? If we can sneak a wild card spot, you know, I I you know I hope that can happen. You know, the it's the offense hasn't been the problem. It's been defense, and the defense has been terrible. Um, you know, allowing, you know, over 30 points a game, that's that's not gonna win you any ballgames when your offense knows they have to score in order to keep up, you know. Um if we can get defensively, you know, together, you know, at least like the corners have been the main thing. DeMaran Bland was out for a few games, and that really hurt us in Chicago, you know, when we played Chicago, when we played uh New York, you know, they threw all over us. Uh Green Bay, you know, granted they didn't, you know, they put up points. You know, we we looked a little bit better on defense, but um, you know, I see with the Cowboys, you know, I think we could sneak into Wild Card. Um if we if we can keep playing the way we are on offense, when CD comes back, Dickens has been great, man. I I know he wants to get paid. You know, Javante Williams, you know, they you know, everybody forgot about that man, but he's done nothing but you know been like honestly, since his beast of rookie year, you know, we haven't had a running back look this good. You know, even with Pollard, Pollard was great. Javante's been a workhorse, you know. Miles Sanders got her class game, and you know, Javante made him a game and you know he he carried us. Um but if we can uh keep clicking on offense, just get a little bit better on defense, uh just you know, whole whole teams under 30 points, man. That's all I'm asking for right now. Um I think I think we can take a wild card spot.

SPEAKER_04:

That's good. Well, Molly, if I could real, you know, real quick, if I may. But it begs the question since you draw into defense, you know, the uh the fiascal between Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons Parsons. Your take on that, who's to blame? Why did it happen? What you wanted to get signed in March before the draft. Why did it ling in? And why does he hate his agents so much that he got blown out? You missed the guy, obviously. Your take on that whole thing. You're down there with like your fan. What the hell?

SPEAKER_01:

Man, uh it's Jerry Jones being Jerry Jones, you know. Uh Tyron Smith, one of our old, old linemen, um, he took a deal which made, you know, at the time for him, you know, it was a lot of money, but he was severely underpaid, and that's because Jerry Jones went around his agent's back.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

So had him sign a contract after having dinner. Uh, Jerry Jones is, you know, honestly, as a businessman, he's been running it kind of poorly when it comes to contracts because he waits till last minute and thinks that he's gonna get a better deal. He hasn't. You know, Dak, you know, one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league because Jerry waited. He should have signed him two years prior. CD, the same thing. Micah Parsons, I told Marlon like from the get-go, we're not gonna sign him. He's gonna get traded. Wow. You can't you can't afford all these guys, man. Like, you know, with all this money spent on three positions, you know, you're severely hurting your team because honestly, you're you're dependent on the draft, one thing. And second, you can't sign any free agents. You know, uh honestly, you know, with uh Micah's agent, you know, he's you know, I think he's Deshaun Watson's agent. He made sure Deshaun Watson got a fully guaranteed contract. Uh Micah, you know, he he let his agent do all the work. You know, he he didn't take Jerry's deal a few months ago and uh that hurt Jerry's feelings because Micah told him, hey, I don't want to be the highest paid defensive player in the league. And uh, you know, that was by far not the truth because he now is. Um but you know, it it it sucks seeing him go. You know, Micah, you know, he's been great while he's here, but as a Dallas fan, watching him play and seeing him in some of the biggest games, you know, he he sh you know, he was triple covered at times, you know, and he was trying to get to the quarterback and you know, make plays, but there's times that he also got hurt bat out. So Yeah. Um I don't think I don't think Jerry I think you what got brought this over the edge was when he he said he had a back injury and uh the Dallas doctors cleared him saying, Oh no, you're you're fine, you can play And he said that he's gonna go get a second opinion and he was spotted at the airport, you know, flying you know, he he he can go get a private jet if he wanted to. Or, you know, he could he could not have been seen, you know, flying out trying to get a second opinion, but you know, he was s you know, the fans spotted him at the airport and he uh that I think Jerry was gonna be really upset. If uh he was paying the guy for not playing.

SPEAKER_04:

So Well, they on the outside looking in, Marlon and Ollie, it just looks ugly for a twenty-six-year-old in his prime, you know, getting bounced, getting bounced like that. Before we move on, Marlon, one last thing real quick on last week's games and recap. The Eagles in your division, Ollie. They look unbeatable. They're winning on the road, you know, in Tampa, and they're winning at home. And it might be a little ruminant because AJ Brown once might want some more touches. And he already had the ring. He might want to be traded at the trade there line. I'm hearing some rumlins there. But your take on the Eagles in your division, don't matter where they play, it look like they're powerful, man. You know, Saquon Barkley.

SPEAKER_01:

They got the complete team. They have the complete team. They got a great defense. They got probably the best running back in the league. And Dylan Hurts has incredible weapons and a great old line, man. They they look unbeatable. Um, you know, I think it's gonna take an injury for uh them not to look unbeatable. You know, I'm AJ Brown is AJ Brown, man. You you play wide receiver, you want targets, you want, you know, you want to put up numbers. And with that team, he doesn't have to do that because they have so many other options. You know, you can go to Goddard, you can go to Devontae Smith, you know, you got Saquon, you got Jalen Hurts who can score three touchdowns on his own with a couple of push pushes. So, you know, I I I don't see anybody in the NFC right now that can compete with them. And the AFC, you know, I see the Bills, you know, the Ravens, you know, I was really high on the Ravens this year until recently. I'm like, well, their defense does not look that good, and I don't think they can keep up with them in a shootout. Um, but I I don't think don't forget about Kansas City either. Yeah Especially the on Amanda Chargers, like uh Marlins Chargers, they look really good. That's right. That's right. They look great. You know, I you know, Jackson Dart, you know, he might have you know had a great game, but you know, I agree on the film part. And especially if Joe Alt doesn't uh miss the whole season, you know, if he only misses a few weeks, you know, I I see that I see the Chargers, you know, being able to compete with Philly. But in the NFC, man, I I really don't see anybody that can uh that can compete with them. I was hoping Tampa. Uh yeah, I was hoping Tampa almost pulled it out too. Uh but you know, I think they need Mike Evans in order for them to compete with him.

SPEAKER_04:

That's a very good point. Injuries are killing that team. And uh as far as Marlon's team, the charges, Marlon, you'll agree, the two the two tackles. Slater is bad enough. When you lose all, that's problematic, you know, and then now you got Justin Herbert looking around and fiddling around. But anyway, go ahead, Marlon. Continue this week's game. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

You got you got these you just got these nobodies that are that are sitting there guarding your your franchise players. So um it it doesn't give time for uh Ladd and Johnston. And Johnson who's been playing amazing, he's definitely trying to get himself a contract, and I love that uh it went from one year kick anything, and now it's in here uh touchdown in every game, which has been amazing. So um, but yeah, it's we'll we'll we'll definitely have to. We got Washington this week at home, so definitely have to uh come to play. I think Jaden's probably gonna play this week. Um, so I think Doc, you guys have a bye this week, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, we do. Yeah, we have a bye.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, so it's about an early bye for you guys, man. Like uh about the long season.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, I would rather it be like in mid-season, to be honest with you, Ollie. But uh, after getting shut out last week against the Panthers and then beating a depleted Washington team, maybe we do need a break and look over some things, clean some things up defensively, you know. Because right now, as we stand, even though we're two and two, gentlemen, we're 0-2 in the division. Should it be Tampa week one at the crib and let that one get away, and then we got blown out and shelled against Carolina. So maybe we need this week clean some things up and take it from there and then finish out the season. But yeah, go ahead.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, Denver, we talked about um uh Lamar Jackson possibly being out. This is it's a it's it's maybe out two to three weeks. So this will be interesting to see how they they bounce back. Denver Phillips. I think that's probably the most interesting game uh of the week. Denver has the ability for different playoffs. Uh they are teams, they have weapons. I think this is the game that everybody's gonna watch it and look at uh if Denver's gonna be a good thing. I don't know if that would happen, but I think that's probably one of the best games of the year. Buffalo of Buffalo, as I said earlier, uh the states went in there and they were competitive and they were um you know making plays and score textiles and stuff. So we'll see if we can get that same New England team, Doc. We'll see if we can get that same New England team that we had last last week going into Buffalo Sunday night.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, that's a good point, man. And you referenced Washington at the Chargers. I expect you to bounce that big time, even if Jaden Daniels does play. I don't think Harbaugh's gonna, but New England at Buffalo's intriguing because New England just put up 48 and Drake May has a can in arm to go up there and battle with uh Josh Allen. Now, the X Factor, of course, Ollie, is uh the running back James Cook, who's had a touchdown. He's having a great year after that big contract during training camp. So that that's the AFC East battle you want to keep an eye on. But I want to talk about Dallas at the Jess. Come on, Ollie, bring it. You know, oh and for Jess, too. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

I'm strong. If it if it was a uh, you know, I think we will handle our business, you know, we should beat beat them badly. But, you know, w we are prone to fall asleep in big games. Or not big games, but against uh lesser opponents, let me tell you that. Right. Um so honestly, I I see you know Justin Fields being able to run on us and uh, you know, complete uh some some passes. You know, Garrett Wilson's a beast, he's one of the best in the league. Yeah. Uh Bree Brees Halls, you know, he's a great running back. You know, uh I think we'll beat him, but it'll be closer than what people expect it to be. I think uh I think we pull it out, you know, maybe by a touchdown. Um, you know, and it'll be a good win to you know get back on track after that tie. You know, if Dak plays the way he did, you know, against Green Bay, if he plays like that every week, I don't see I don't see it happening. You know, no quarterback can just play perfect, you know. But um if he can keep doing that, if we can get some stops, you know, I we can win it. But I can also see us see us losing it because we we're l overlooking them, you know. Um so we're gonna we're gonna need a we're gonna need Dak to keep playing flawless uh in order to compete in these games.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, this NFL, Ollie and Marlon, and anything can happen, but I expect Dallas to go in there. What about San Francisco at the Rams, Marlon? A game that we didn't talk about, a division NFC West game. Uh the Rams have a propensity to come back, but San Francisco needs this win, you know, and they keep the Rams problem.

SPEAKER_01:

It's party playing. Is he gonna be hurt?

SPEAKER_04:

Ooh, that's a good question.

SPEAKER_01:

Uh didn't he play last week though? Didn't he? Yeah, but I think it uh Marlon, didn't he re-aggravate uh his injuries that he had? I think it was like his uh his tap or something. I I'm not too sure what his injury was, but I think he's questionable right now because they you know uh I thought that he might miss this game.

SPEAKER_00:

And it's a short and it's a short and it's a short week. So we we we don't know you know what's gonna happen with him. They're all banged up, man. It's it's but uh with this Rams team. I mean, this is a team that we thought that was gonna be uh Stafford with its back. And yes, you got uh Devontae Adams and With Puka, and you know, they had high Kyron, yeah, higher.

SPEAKER_01:

Those two, those two look good, man. Yeah, they do.

SPEAKER_04:

You can argue that they're the best wide receiver tan in the league this side of Chase and Higgins, you know. Oh, yeah. But they they don't have that quarterback. The Rams do. So yeah, but don't forget the running back Williams now. He signed a big contract and he's performing, you know. Uh he looks like he started fumbling too. That's an intriguing matchup here in LA, gentlemen. You know, so we'll see. Uh Kansas City at Jacksonville. Look like Jacksonville had a huge win, sunshine, you know, and Kansas City coming off a four TD every by number 15. Your take on that, fellas. Another critical matchup. You know, AFC. Yes, he did. Oh, Tony Gives again when I'm watching it. Yes, wow. This is great. This is great. Watching it, the talking football. Go ahead, fellas.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, I uh with Kansas City, it is scary. As a Chargers fan, it is scary. With 3-0, 3-0 in the division. Uh, well, three-and-one, sorry, three and three-o in the division. Um it's scary to see them when they click it on and they get healthy and they get their guys back. It's when they figure it out, and this is what I've always said. I remember it was a year or two ago when it clips were in the last place, and then they turn around and turn on and wonder the fitness. They've they've been there before, they know how to turn it off, they know uh you know, that's a quarterback combination probably of the uh you know Brady and Felitech. But it's it's it's a great combination. And they know what to do. Their defense is great. So it's it's a target, it's it's kind of you hate to see it, especially this early, because if they really wanted to, by week six, week seven, they can be in first place and just run away with the division.

SPEAKER_04:

Yep. Yeah, well, Jacksonville's playing great defense, so and then ATN has woken up in his fourth year out of Florida. So looks like they got a shot to beat him. I don't know what the point spread is, but it's in Jacksonville.

SPEAKER_01:

I think that game is gonna be a shootout. Uh I I think it's gonna be a shootout, man. Like, Jacksonville looks good, their defense is playing good. I think Trevor Lawrence is kind of putting it together this year after he'd be kind of being uh, you know, you know, not having the best, you know, a few years, you know. They thought he was a second coming of Peyton Manning. Um, I think he's putting it together. He's becoming, you know, who he is as a quarterback. Um they they look good. And I I see, you know, I'm calling an upset. I think Jacksonville's gonna beat him. I think they I think they beat the Chiefs, and that'll be that'll be one of their signature wins this year, beating the Chiefs.

SPEAKER_04:

That's fair. I'm willing to go in that direction too to help you out, Marlon, because Sunshine, you got that contract last year or the year before. Just like this year, especially with the running back, is doing it. Then Trayvon, Trayvon Walker, the edge rusher, they took over uh Hutchison in Detroit. He's playing well too. So, you know, uh we'll see. That's interesting. Yeah, yeah. Uh the Seattle game against Tampa, Seattle at home, Tampa at Seattle. That's kind of a tricky game. Seattle should take care of this. Uh, but you never know, Baker Mayfield's revived his career alley and all in to the point where you can never count Tampa out. But Seattle and the Pacific, it's another thing. Nobody's talking about the doggone uh Seahawks, but I think they're three and one. I believe they're three and one. I may be wrong. Maybe they're two and two, but I think they're three and one. So yeah. There you go.

SPEAKER_01:

They also are looking good with Sam Darnold there. Uh he's he's he's clicking, you know, there, you know, Jackson Smith, you know, he's he's he's playing great. You know, they got two good running backs, Kenneth Walker and Charbonnet. That's right. They're playing, they're playing good. You know, the defense, I that defense is kind of underrated, man. Like, I don't think a lot of people uh you know are you know seeing Seattle's defense as being kind of uh kind of elite in a way. You know, they made Tyler they made Kyler Murray, you know, until the fourth quarter, you know, Kyler Murray didn't look that good, you know. So they've been playing great. Um Tampa, I don't think you guys didn't bring up, man, Abuka over there. Oh yeah, man. He's you know, Mike Evans, you know, he's Mike Evans and he's gonna be at Hall of Famer, man. But Abuka's taking that number one wide receiver spot over there.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, we took we talked about him prior to uh the season and these rookie draft picks. I'm a draft gate ollie, by the way. And we talked about this kid, you know, and Baker's hitting him in strong. He's putting up sick numbers, 77-yard touchdowns and all that as a rookie, you know, and not even Julio Jones did that, and some of the other great receivers, you know, but uh it goes in order, man. That's a very good point, you know. So I'm looking forward to week four slate, man. This is not a good game. I'm praying for that my wife's Raiders win a game, but they're not gonna win at the Colts, who just lost. They just lost. So the Colts are gonna bounce back, and nobody cares about Miami at Carolina or Houston at Baltimore with an airing Lamar Jackson. But, you know, it's still a few games that you keep your eye on. I got the fire stick, so I'm constantly changing. My team's on a bye. So I'm I'm I'm constantly looking at the red zone or whatever game I want to watch, you know.

SPEAKER_00:

So absolutely. Absolutely. So okay, Ali, I got a treat for you. I got uh two quick questions for you before we leave. Um, but uh I wanted to show I want to ask you, Doc, who's the best receiver on the the Lions? What's his name?

SPEAKER_04:

Amar St. Brown in his name, Amara's butcher his name, I'll media always gets me with this. Oh my god. You can never get it with that.

SPEAKER_00:

So so we we our media day for NBA was uh uh day or two ago. Um we were just talking about the trade with Michael Parsons uh from leaving Dallas, and why not transition to Luca leaving Dallas? Ali uh Doc Ali is a he was he's a huge Mavs fan, now he's a big Lakers fan. So Ali, how are you feeling? How are you feeling about our Lakers? And uh what are you thinking about uh your Mavs the Mavs going forward?

SPEAKER_01:

I I knew he was gonna he was gonna bring that up, man. Um still I'm still sad about that trade. I'm I'm not gonna ever get over that trade. Uh but Luca, man, I wish he had did this when he was in Dallas, you know, lose some weight and uh look like he looks like he's in the best shape of his life. Um you know him I he he drives that win total up for anything. But you know, anywhere he goes, he he he he he will drive up the win total. And I I you know I see the Lakers probably, you know, being a fifth seed, fourth seed in the West. I I see them right there. Um I see my map, you know, being at four or five seed as well. You know, maybe a three seed whenever Kyrie comes back. That's that's when he comes back. Um, you know, I'm I'm interested to see how Cooper Flag looks and if uh AD can stay healthy for a whole season. We all know Marlon, you know that. Uh it's pretty hard for him to do that. Um but you know, I'm excited about the NBA. Uh I think the Lakers, you know, if if this is LeBron's last year with them, you know, they if they they're gonna probably go all out to try to win another championship around Luca and LeBron.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah. Uh living out here, Ali, it's not gonna happen because LeBron still wants to be the star. This is Luca's team. And I know the uh, you know, they can pick up DeAndre Aiden, but he has to prove that not only can he stay heavy, can he be effective working with LeBron and Lucas?

SPEAKER_01:

DeAndre Aiden, man, like that guy, if that's one player, man, he had so much high hopes coming out of college and you know, going going top in the draft and stuff. The Mavericks were, you know, at the the year he came out, they were rumored to be in on him, but you know, we got lucky with Luca, and you know, he he got lucky to go to Phoenix. But uh, you know, I think I think the best best blessing that can happen to DeAndre Aitons is playing with LeBron and Luca because he's gonna catch lobs and he's gonna grab grab rebound.

SPEAKER_04:

So that's a good point, yeah. The West is brutal, gentlemen. You guys are I'm from the East Coast, Southeast, Atlanta Hawks. So I I grew up hating the Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks with Albert and Sydney Montgomery. But out here in the West, the West is what the East was back in the 80s. The West is so deep, seven or eight teams, gentlemen. I like the Mavericks if AD can stay healthy when Kyrie gets back in February or March, you know, and Cooper Flag. You you got to coop the ground down there, Holly. Cooper Cooper Flag's a real deal, you know.

SPEAKER_01:

You know what? Cooper Cooper Flag, you know, if he can uh you know, he has big shoes to fill, man. You know, Dirk being here for so long, you know, he won a championship here. He's the greatest Maverick of all time. You know, Luca was on his way to, you know, probably surpassing Dirk on that list, you know, if he had to stay here, but uh you know, he you know, Luca, you know, he took uh team to the Western Conference Finals with you know, you couldn't probably name another player on that team except for Jalen Brunt. Uh you know, and then he went to the finals you know, with Kyrie. You know, it's gonna it's gonna be tough for Cooper Flag has uh pretty big shoes to fill, you know. His rookie year, I'm glad he's playing with A D and Kyrie, you know, when Kyrie gets back. And you know, we have some veterans on the team as well that can uh help him, you know, throughout the year. That's right. We we don't need him to put up 30 points a game like Luca and you know, if he can get you know rookie year 15 to 18 points, you know, play defense and uh grab rebounds, you know, that's all we ask for. So um I think that'll be a great rookie year for him if he can do that.

SPEAKER_04:

No, that's right, brother. And the East is is anybody's game. You know, the Knicks, you know, and B stays healthy with the 76ers. So it's right around the car on corner, Marlins, the NBA. But we can't leave this show, Ali. I'm a college football fanatic. Can Georgia bounce back against Kentucky at home after losing a brutal loss to Alabama? And can Alabama sustain that success they didn't last year at the Beat in Georgia? They host Vanderbilt, who's underdefeated in the ass year. Vanderbilt's 5-0. Let me repeat that. 5-0, Vanderbilt, you know. And uh, can Alabama and De Board do the thing that they did to Georgia at home? You know, once they played Georgia, they fell in the tank. This year, Vanderbilt comes in and that Pavo, whatever his name is, he's the real deal, the quarterback for Vanity. Then you got Mox.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I I listened to a radio station out here uh in Dallas, 105.3 Defend. Marlon loves that station.

SPEAKER_00:

No, no, I don't.

SPEAKER_01:

Um and uh Pavia is actually one of the he's the godson for uh one of the local broadcasters out here on the radio station. Uh not broadcasters, but radio hosts. So yeah, he's always talking of Pavia and Vanderbilt, you know. Vanderbilt being, you know, like I I haven't seen them ever be this good at football, you know. That's right. That's right. So uh yeah. What's your thoughts on Texas, man? Like, do you think Arch is gonna get him into the playoffs? Because I I'm seeing that they're not even projected to even make it to the playoffs right now with how they're playing.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, I'm glad you brought that up because I had Arch winning the Heinz, man, but then he blew up against Ohio State, not connecting receiver. He played the little uh FBS schools, it didn't look too well. Sarkeese is under pressure, man, at Texas with this kid. You get the five-star skilled people, and now you got Arch. This is his year. So it remains to be seen. Remember, you gotta visit Athens in November 15th. You gotta visit Georgia. But I think they can they can do some things leading up to that game. If they run the rock and throw to the receiver, their defense is okay. To answer your question, I think Texas could end up with two losses, man, because I don't think Kirby Smart's gonna lose another big one in Athens. You know, we host Texas. We swept him last year on the road. So I don't know. That's interesting. Doc going to perform.

SPEAKER_00:

Doc, going back last week, and I know it may still hurt a little bit, but your thoughts on the Alabama-Georgia game. It was a tough one to take. What are your thoughts on the game?

SPEAKER_04:

We can't beat that team because Kirby Smart is he won some big games now, Allie and Marlin. But against Alabama, for one, some reason he makes some questionable decision. He should have kicked the field goal instead of going on on fourth and one. He tied a game, maybe you take it to overtime, and you're at home and you take it from there. But he askewed that, and the offensive lineman missed the block, and then Cash Jones got stopped on fourth and one. But it's it's it's starting slow on defense. They're killing us, gentlemen. Tennessee led us up with their quarterback, and Alex Burma, the same guy that got crushed by Florida State week one. He looks like Joe Namath in the first half against Georgia's defense, you know. So, and this is what Kirby Smart is, to answer your question, a defensive guy, him and Glenn Schuman. And we let the guy go in there and just walk through us in the first. Well, we shut him out in the second half. They didn't score, but neither did we score seven. We should have scored ten if we kicked the field goal, but it's too late. They had 24 points already, you know. And uh we got to come out strong, man. And it hurts, this is a border rivalry. We beat him for the Natty Ollie four years ago. And uh when uh Bryce Young was the quarterback, had a big pick up pick six, but we ain't beat him since. You know, we're one and seven. And so to answer your question is terribly disappointing in this particular team. We'll beat everybody else, but we can't beat Bama, you know, and they were gonna fire Kellen De Boer. Now they're gonna keep his ass, and they don't like he's not a Southern boy, he's not a Southern ties, no, doesn't know the recruits like that down south. He's from the Pacific Northwest. So, but it burns us up. We hope we meet them again in the SEC Championship, but we gotta get there first. And gonna stalk and, you know, he was kind of shaky against that defense, you know. So there you go, right there. It hurts.

SPEAKER_00:

You better you better beat Kentucky by 50 this week.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, yeah, we better. We better. College football is a little tricky this year. Ohio State looks good, but they're not as good as they were last year, obviously. But they do got the best receiver in the game. We mentioned Texas, Penn State laid in egg. Oregon might be the best team in the country. Game landing, you know. So it's a long season, gentlemen. Things will play out and the conference play. So yeah, but right now, I gotta put Ohio State and Oregon one and two. And then, you know, you'll coach James Franklin at Penn State, never wins a big game, home or away. Ohio State owns them. Then he just lost at home to Oregon, who he was favored by at home. They had a whiteout and everything. So Drew Allar, who is predicted Ali to go in the first round, I don't even think he's gonna go in the third, you know, the quarterback. So yeah, there you go, right there.

SPEAKER_00:

Doc, we got the we got the uh Florida State. Can can Chad Seminoles upset Miami coming up this week? It's a Sunday night game, or Saturday night game, excuse me. I'm sorry. Uh can can can Florida State upset Miami? What do you got this week?

SPEAKER_04:

I think they can coming off a Friday night loss or a devastating loss to uh uh Virginia, you know. And given what they did to Alabama, the the the people, the skilled people there, I think it's in Tallahassee. But Carson Beck, the ex-Georgia quarterback, Ollie, is playing like a Heisman candidate, and they do have some pieces around him.

SPEAKER_01:

Carson Beck, man.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, they have to create a best game to upset. Because that's gonna ling a losing at Virginia the way they did, you know. So, and and the ACC, or everybody thought it was Clemson. Clemson got three losses. So it might be Florida State and Miami, but this game is critical, man. Back in the day, this is Deion Sanders versus Michael Irvin, you know, the youth, Ray Lewis, and all those cats. But uh, you know, they don't have those kind of players. Carson Beck, I expect Carson Beck to handle business to answer your question. Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_00:

Absolutely. Okay, well, shoot. Well, Doc, that's all I got today, man. You got you got anything else for us?

SPEAKER_04:

We didn't touch WNBA. We're big WNBA. Oh, yeah. Uh but but but we'll we'll get that next week, Ollie, and take it from there. You know, we we just don't have time. It playoffs. I love I love Aja Wilson. So we'll get into that next week. And Ollie, you can listen to our take, man, about WNBA. My daughter plays basketball, she's all into it, even though the sparks are out of it out here in LA. But we didn't get into it, gentlemen, but we'll we'll get into it next week because we're getting down to nitty-gritty. That's it. That's all I got. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00:

All right. Well, Aliyah, uh, that's uh appreciate you for joining, man. You got anything else for us for you get out, get you out of here?

SPEAKER_01:

No, man, I appreciate you guys having me on. You know, uh, I love talking sports, you know, just right now with baseball and playoff baseball and uh NFL, you know, it's like uh it's Christmas morning every day, you know, especially with this wildcard format. So uh appreciate you guys having me on. Um, you know, great talk today. And uh yeah, I'll I'll listen to y'all's uh WNBA takes next uh podcast.

SPEAKER_00:

Uh no, you won't.

SPEAKER_04:

And and and it won't be the last time you'll be on, Ollie. God bless you. We'll talk to you later in the year, you know, seeing how Dallas is doing, Atlanta and the Chargers, maybe week 10, 11, around holidays. And we'll we'll welcome you back then. Thank you, brother, for joining us. Thank you.

SPEAKER_01:

Sounds good. Thank you guys.

SPEAKER_00:

All right, no problem. We'll catch you guys next week. Peace. Peace.
