Welcome And Weekend Frame
SPEAKER_03And welcome everybody to another episode of Real Talk. Doc. You doing all right today?
SPEAKER_01Yes, I am. We're honored to have our next guest, man. One of the most knowledgeable callers' SOS. Let's do it, man. Do the intro, brother. Absolutely, man.
SPEAKER_03Mark Mark Bikali joins us again. He's a uh a big Niners fan. There's a little let down in his game, which we'll get into, uh, but they are going into the uh playoffs as a sixth seed, so everybody will be locked into their game against the Eagles. But Mark, how you doing, man?
SPEAKER_00I'm good. Thank you guys for having me.
SPEAKER_01How's uh each of you guys doing? Oh man, we're blessed. Happy New Year, brother. I hope you enjoyed your holidays. I know you did. So another year, man, 2026. For some of us, our teams are wrecking, so it should be a news. But go ahead, Martin. I digress.
Week 18 Recap And Headlines
SPEAKER_03Absolutely, absolutely. So, all right, so uh we will we'll dive into the games real quick and then uh we will go ahead and jump into uh some playoff predictions and uh we'll go into the college football playoffs. So all right, so we have the two Saturday games, uh Panthers and the Bucks. Uh the Bucs did win, but the Panthers win the division because of Docks games uh with the Saints taking care of uh with Saints losing, actually. So because of Falcon's one, the Panthers they end up winning the division. We're scenario, but uh we just talked about March 49ers they end up losing on Saturday. Uh the rough game party got hurt a little bit. Um so the it seems like he's gonna play uh this weekend. Uh Miles Garrett ends up getting the stock record. That's something that's really uh you know beneficial, I guess, if I will with the with this game. Uh Packers nobody played, uh Cowboys Giants nobody cares. Texas Jags, nobody cares. They pretty much played their backups half of the game. Texas went there. Uh Bills Jets, nobody played for the Bills, but they still won. Uh Lions, Bears. Uh the Bears could have won this one, but the Lions and Us uh win on this one. Chargers and the Broncos, nobody played for the Chargers Broncos the uh Chief Raiders. I don't know why the Raiders won. They should have lost still because they won. It was actually a loss for them uh draft-wise, but um I think they still got the number one overall picks, so I think they're still okay. Um still case the Ryan's take care of business, uh Dolphins played for its players to take care of it. So we're weak 18, obviously, with the a lot of the 2030 outs are still key players because they don't want them to let's try to get hurt and they got possibly enough here within the 20s and ATL and all that. Um the Eagles they know about 24, they could have played that game so they can not have to worry about playing the 49ers and then the the game that everybody watched, uh the mid-field goal uh from the Ravens kicker loop. They probably left it, would have had Justin Tucker at that point, but Steelers and 95-year-old Aaron Rodgers makes the playoffs. So, Doc, I'll go ahead and start with you on this one. What what game stuck out to you? Um, there's only a couple of them that actually mattered, but what game stuck out to you in week 18?
SPEAKER_01Well, it's a couple, man. Uh the Eagles not playing their people. I blame Sirianni because you're gonna lose to the 49ers. You had the chance to get the number two seed and you want to rest your people. You're not all that offensively. Defensively, you might, but you won a game at uh in Philly to uh, you know, make sure that you win at least one as defending champs, man. But now you go on the road and you play a 49er team. I think Siriani messed up, man. It's hard for me to blow them up. Just won a bowl last year, Mark, but by the same token, you have the Philly fans and the Eagles fans, they're they're they're really pissed off at this, you know, uh sitting down. You know, they're I mean, they need reps on offense. The other game, of course, is last night as you referenced, Marlon, uh, Steelers and Ravens. I think the fact that, you know, you gotta feel somewhat sorry for Lamar Jackson given that he made plays down the stretch, twice the Zay Flowers and then once the uh um the tight end, likely, they made a great catch. And at the field goal, kicker missed the kick. You know, I'm happy for I got a lot of scalar butters and happy for Tom and they're off his ass, you know, but they're gonna be one and done. But I was really pulling for Lamar, man, and it's one of those things, Mark and Marlin, that, you know, the him being a quarterback, they're gonna knock him, you know, and not the coach or the kicker. Yeah, it's one of those things. He didn't make it again. That's it. Got knocked out last year as the number one seed. So, because Mark Andrews last year dropped a pass in the end zone. Whether it was two-point or touchdown, I forget what it was, but it all falls on Lamar's lap. So uh there you go right there. Um the Rams played their people, Mark, and then uh, you know, they did what they had to do. Uh, but my Falcons, and I'm glad I knocked Baker out, you know, I'm kind of upset that Carolina swept my Falcons. Otherwise, we would have uh won the division, but that's neither here nor there. So those games in and of itself pick out. The Raiders, I'm happy for my wife before I give it over to Mark, is you know, the kicker the end with a winning note. I don't know what that means in Raider Nation, but it was exciting to see them win that last on the last second field goal. It didn't mess up their first pick because the Giants won and threw out Dallas. Another trouble franchise. But go ahead, Mark. Yeah, I digress.
SPEAKER_00Uh it was a it was an odd uh last week of the season. I think every team should just play on Sunday to begin with. Um I didn't like Saturday games, I don't like playing three games as a as a Niners fan in 12 days. I think it's absolutely insane when when uh a big focus is on health and safety. Um you can't say you're concerned about player health and safety and the fans and the money we spend to buy these tickets and merchandise, and and you're making people fly across the country in different time zones, not have uh a proper amount of rest to make a dollar yourself. So um I think what the Eagles did was actually pretty smart to rest the players. Um Wow. When you're confident, you can't sit there and say, hey, we can beat anyone anywhere, and then go out here and say, Well, we're gonna play all our players because we rather have the two seed and play this person. Like if you're gonna if you're gonna walk the walk, you gotta talk the talk. You know, don't talk about it, you gotta be about it. So I think what they did was smart because yeah, they've struggled on offense, but how many teams do we see going to that last week and they get a uh injury and now their playoff um run is hampered because they played pretty much like a meaningless game at the end of the season. They already clinched, you know, a home a home game. Um, they've clinched the playoffs. Like, what more do you need to do? And when you've been to two Super Bowls in what, three or four years, like you should be confident that it doesn't matter what seed you are, you can make a run. We're confident as Niners, we're confident that we can go in the Philly and beat them, even though we wanted the one seed and we played everybody. And now we just got another guy hurt for the rest of the playoffs. Our middle linebacker that replaced our all-pro middle linebacker who got hurt for the whole season. So um there's no wrong way, in my opinion, to go about playing that last week. Um, but I do think all teams should be playing on the last week of the season on that Sunday. Like that's just my opinion. I don't think you should have a Saturday game. Um, because then what happens if someone clinches and then that Sunday game is meaningless. I think there's more meaning to playing through the Sunday games and actually getting good competition and getting, you know, good product than to have some games on a Saturday that, you know, pretty much make Sunday non-existent for other teams.
SPEAKER_01That's fair. That's a good point, Mark, because that's the way it used to be. But Roger Goodell is all about money and as much money he can make for the owners. And I I I disagree with the way Roger Goodell uh treats the fans and the product and the cost, the absorbing cost of the ticket and all that. But that's a good point because it used to be that way. All teams on Sunday. But the networks, Mark, that's what mess everything up. ESPN, Fox, all that, you know, Peacock, they want these games on stack.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. It's all about and and and Roger Goodelza, his bosses are the are the owners, right? So, you know, you got to make your bosses happy and you're gonna make somebody mad. And who can he afford to make mad? Fans, players, because football players, like, are they gonna go play another sport? Are they gonna play for another league that's that's not as popular, that doesn't pay them as much? And fans, are we gonna watch another product that's not as good as the NFL? No. So he's gonna do what he wants to do, and they've made it so he can do that. So I can be mad at him, but to me it's like it's a waste of part of energy. Um there's just not nothing else that's gonna compete with NFL football on a football level, other than college. And we already seen how college is now with the transfer portal and you know the NIL and the playoffs. Like there's now there's politics, added politics to college football.
Lamar Jackson: Elite Or Limited?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's a good point. And Marlon, Mark makes a good point relative to the conundrum, if you will, about the safety of the players. And yeah, you got teams playing three times in 12 days. And in Mark's case, the 49ers played twice in 12 days. So there is a problem there, and they talk about still going to 18 games. That's something that we can address later on. But this weekend, in and of an interesting matchups going forward, but uh, I just had to pick a few games that stuck out. You got to feel fucked off. Mark, I don't know how you feel about Lamar Jackson and all that, and that style of play, you know, winner's chip, because he's been hurt all year with hand spring and all kinds of leg injuries. Last year he had 41 touchdowns and only four picks, but he didn't win the MVP because he gave it to Josh Allen. So is Lamar Jackson at 28-29 done as an elite player, Mark? Your call.
SPEAKER_00I've never thought of him as an elite player to begin with. Wow, wow, go ahead, continue. He plays the position of quarterback. The quarterback's job is to stand in the pocket, deliver the ball to people to win games, right? And when and when that's taken away, then it's like, okay, I have to improvise. Is there a is there a coincidence that a running quarterback who hasn't worked on his touch, his accuracy, his throwing ability has leg injuries now, and now his game is suffering, and now his team is suffering because he can't be on the field? No, it's directly correlated to each other. He hasn't improved as a quarterback since he's been in the league. And just like Jordan Love, he relies on his natural God-given ability. And we all know God ain't gonna take your abilities away, but it's just naturally gonna happen. So, what does he have to fall back on? So now you're talking about a dude that's 29, never been out of the Super Bowl, has injuries, he has to learn how to become a quarterback. It's getting late. And uh Josh Allen is here to stay because he's already done the work. Patrick Mahomes has already done the work. Drake May is doing the work now. Like he's already behind the eight-ball, and he's behind three really good quarterbacks.
SPEAKER_03Herbert.
SPEAKER_00So I can honestly say if they and yeah, we can go Herbert too, because I wasn't a big Herbert guy coming out of college, but you can tell like he's been he's worked at the position because he doesn't have the ability of Lamar. So just think if Lamar put that effort into the things that he wasn't good at, how much better would he be? Then I would be like, that fool is dynamic.
SPEAKER_01Um he is a two-time MVP. I didn't mean to cut you off. He is a two-time MVP, and as a reference, he only had four interceptions last year and still almost ran for a thousand with 41 TDs. To be fair, Mark, and we could dialogue this all day, but for the sake of time, he did make plays last night on the road in Pittsburgh. It wasn't his fault that his team failed and they're eight and act you know, year before Mark Andrews start the pass night.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it wasn't and and and Dalton Kincaid dropped the pass for Josh Allen, right? But are we having this discussion about Josh Allen? Like, no, we're not. We're not because we know what Josh Allen is. We still don't know what Lamar is. He's good with his with his running abilities, but no one is sitting over here ever talking about oh, Lamar dropped back 40 times and he just looked awesome. He's never had a wide receiver with over 100 catches. That's wild. Never in a passing league, in a passing league, because people don't really run the ball no more, you know, like people are going for it on fourth down, they're throwing more. He's never had a wide receiver, like over a hundred a hundred receptions. And his main uh receiver is a tight end. And you got Zay Flowers over there. If you if you put Zay Flowers with any other quarterback, is he catching a hundred balls?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he would. That's fair. He's catching 100 balls. That's fair. Oh, Mark, you and I could differ on this issue. They said the same thing about Vic, to be fair. His main target was Algie Crumpler, and uh Roddy White didn't yeah, Roddy White didn't become all pro until Matt Ryan, a pure passer, came in. But that's neither here nor there. I just had to ask you on all the.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'm glad you brought up Vic. I'm glad you brought up Vic because I was a huge Vic fan my whole entire life. But you do you know what the difference is between Vic and the Falcons and Vic and the Eagles? Is when Vic got locked up and got back out, he learned how to be a quarterback. That's right. He took the time to learn how to actually play the position. And he proved it to Sean just the Eagles, bro. Deshaun Jackson and all of them, like he didn't always have the greatest receivers, you know, possession receivers, but he he spread that ball around when he was with the Eagles, man. And I just don't see it with Lamar. If Lamar still got time, but I'm just saying, like, time is still getting up there because these young dudes, they're working at this craft ever since they're in grade school. They're not just running around breaking people's ankles, like they're learning the position. And you got to be the smartest dude out there when you're a quarterback. Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_01That's true. So you and I differ on Lamar Jackson, that's fair. Uh yeah, so there you go, right there, Marlon. This is great dialogue on one that I consider one of the elite players in the league, Mark Bakes differ. We could talk about that another time, but the game's coming up because so exciting. Go ahead, Marlon.
Rams vs Panthers Matchup
SPEAKER_03Absolutely. So, as we jumped into that first one, uh, he's talking about quarterbacks. Uh, you got one of the greatest. Well, I I won't say one of the greatest of all time, but uh definitely one of the best quarterbacks this year, Matthew Stafford. Uh, he's gone and traveling to Carolina. We knew the winner of this NFT style fame would get this first uh slot on Saturday. Um on this one, Mark, I'll start with you on this I know it's right in your division. Um I I I don't know I know you're not really the biggest fan of giving teams credit in your division, but looking at this, uh did the Rams have any issue with this Carolina team, or is it will Carolina stock the world and and beat the Rams and move on in the playoffs?
SPEAKER_00I think Carolina is gonna win, and that's not coming from a hatred or anything. I just think the Rams have been missing something for the past couple weeks. I don't think they have that killer instinct, and I don't really think they had it all season. I just don't. Like they lost to Carolina already, and they could have shown it up. And they went in there laxadaisical and got smashed. They lost to us on their home turf the first couple weeks of the season when they had an opportunity to to win the game and you know take control of everything. Those type of games, you cannot just go in there acting like you can throw your jock strap out there and win the game. It's football, it's a team sport. You don't have to be, you know, the other team doesn't have to be more talented, but they can beat you. And and they don't have that urgency. And I don't know what it is about them. I don't know if it's the style. I mean, their head coach wears joggers and pulls his pants up to his legs. Like, it just feels like they're they're all about flashing how they look compared to just going out there and just smashing people. The Seahawks go out there and smash you, bro. Like they don't care how they get it done, they smash you. And I'm more afraid of the Seahawks and always have been than I am of the Rams.
SPEAKER_01The biggest back on that, Marlon, they dare, they they did beat the Rams in the smash-mouth fashion with Rico Dattle, because Trooper Hussein with Hubbard wasn't playing at the time. And Bryce Young made enough plays and made it hand. You know, remember that big defensive line, Marlon, for the Panthers is dangerous. But then again, Mark, as you referenced, you know, they're in your division. When you got Jared, Jared Burris, and you got Fisk and all that, they got a defense too. I don't know if I can pick Carolina there in my division. I am kind of pulling for the Rams because a little bit in Stafford went to the University of Georgia. But it goes noted. It goes noted, man. Passes are dangerous, especially defensively. Yeah, good point, Mark. Go ahead, Mark.
SPEAKER_03All right. And we got Green Bay at Chicago. Um uh on this one. Uh Doc, I'll start with you. If it really we we love to have these divisional games uh in the playoffs for one, two, the biggest question I have is what Jordan Love is gonna show up and what Caleb Williams is gonna show up. Because these two these two players can be really good or they can be really, really bad. So uh Doc, I'll go ahead and start with you on this one. What do you got?
SPEAKER_01Because I I love champ, I just think the Bears are gonna win this game right here in Soldier Field. It's the fact that uh Sweat on defense and Jalen Johnson, Marlin is a little bit too much for a guy coming off injury and Jordan Love, and they got some significant injuries on the defensive side of the ball. I think DeAndre Swift and DJ Moore and the rookie out of Missouri, his name is Captain. They're just too much. And this is why you play for Ben Johnson. This is what they work for. At one time, two weeks ago, Chicago was the hottest team in the league, Mark. And I gotta take the Bears at home. How far they go is up for debate, Mark. But I'm I'm taking them in this particular game right here in the division rival. He already beat them, you know, in soldier fear. It's gonna be cold and Chicago fans out. It's a dynamic atmosphere. This is what Caleb, Caleb Williams wanted. He's mature, despite what some people might say down. This guy last year was a total mess. And I think you agree there, Mark, but I'm taking the Bears 24 to 17. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00There you go. I agree. I like I like the Bears. I think the Bears overall are just a better football team, top to bottom. Um, I can even debate they got a better head coach right now than than what Green Bay has. Um I have no disagreement with you there. They can pound you with a two-headed running game. They can, you know, they got two tight ends, they got three receivers. Um, quietly, they've built a really good offense. Um, they're just young and inexperienced. So, but you know what makes up for uh being young and inexperienced is facing somebody you've already played twice. So it ain't gonna be no secret, you know what I'm saying? So if this was like a Bears versus Rams or even Seattle, I would probably take, you know, the other team. Um I like the Bears more than I like the Packers. I think the Packers just have too much going on as far as injuries, like Doc said. And they just haven't played consistent football all year, and it's hard to split the switch um and play a consistent football game. And they just find digs. So that's how down they are. Like they need as much defensive help as they can get going into a playoff matchup on the road. Yeah, I don't like their chances.
SPEAKER_01And Mark, remember the kid, the rookie running back, Managa, he's something else, man. Seventh round pick. So props to Ben Johnson and South for having a great draft pick and doing that. To spell DeAndre Swift, who's been injury prone his old grade, you know he stayed healthy. So yeah, there you go right there, Mona. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03All right, so Buffalo at Jacksonville, probably one of the most underrated games. There's a lot of uh, you know, uh great teams. We're talking about the Rams, Bears. Of course, we're gonna get to Mark's game in a second, but with this Jacksonville team, it's they they've been playing good. Schedule hasn't been as strong, but they've been playing good. They got the home game. I was able to uh get 12 wins out, but then Buffalo comes to town, and I've been uh on record saying that this is Josh Allen's year to do it. If if no Mahomes, no Burrow, no Lamar, this is your The AFT is wide open. This is his chance, and this is gonna be his first test going to Jacksonville and getting a win. So, Mark, I'll go ahead and start with you on this one. Who do you like?
SPEAKER_00Man, this is this is a pick'em. Um two teams that you know are pretty inconsistent. Um, Trevor Lawrence has kind of put it together, but I'm not all the way there on him. Um and Josh Allen has to do everything for that team. Um because let's just be honest, like out his wide receivers and they're just inconsistent, man, and they're not good. It's him and Cook. And if he and that Jacksonville defense is not bad by any means. If they can keep Cook under under control, um they might force Josh Allen to make some throws that he thinks he has to make to win the game. I'm gonna go with the Bills because I'm I've always been a Josh Allen believer since I've seen him at Wyoming, and I've never been a Trevor Lawrence guy. Um But if I'm gonna say so, I think Jacksonville should win this game. They have a better roster, um, just a complete, completely better roster than Buffalo. But one man can make a difference every once in a while, and I'll give that nod to Josh Allen. So I'm gonna take the Bills in a close one. I'll I'm gonna say I'm gonna say I'm gonna say 2017 Buffalo.
SPEAKER_01Wow, low scoring. I beg to differ with you, brother, and I love Josh Allen, but I don't trust Sean McDermott in a big spot, Marlon. And I say that because too many times in the past, even when he had the number one C honey, he blew up. Now this year, Jacksonville's defense, as Mark referenced it, they lead the league in turnovers forced to something like Trayvon Walker and those cats, you know, they got the back end. But uh on the other side, you got the other Josh Allen, Edge Russian at 50 out of Kentucky. I'm taking sunshine, man. Sunshine's proven under the Liam Cohen, who should be rook uh coach of the year. But Liam Cohen's brought the best out of sunshine, you know, and and he had five key passes a week ago or three weeks ago. I don't know, was it the Raiders or somebody? I think Jackson Hurricane will do the number at home, man, you know, and it's because I don't trust Sean McDermott, even though Josh Allen is a machine, as Mark referenced. I'm gonna go, it's gonna be a high-scoring thing, man, you know, because they don't like to run Cook for some reason. They really run Josh Allen in a big spot, and Cook is one of the better running backs of the league. I'm going 31-27, Jacksonville, right there. There you go, Marlin. So I disagree on Mark on that one.
49ers At Eagles: Case For Each Side
SPEAKER_03Okay, all right. And then the game of the weekend, uh San Francisco going to Philly. And like I said earlier, Philly could have avoided uh San Francisco and could have lucked up and got the Packers, but since they didn't want to play their people, now they they screwed themselves over, then you got Seattle. I'm sorry, Seattle, San Francisco coming to town. So uh game of the weekend, Mark, on this one. Who do you like? Well, I obviously know who you like, but tell me why you like him.
SPEAKER_00Uh I like him because Jalen Hurts is weak. That's what I like. I don't trust Jalen Hurts as a quarterback. He's terrible. Um, there's a reason why A.J. Brown acts a fool around there, dude. Like, that dude's a beast, man. Like, and you can't get that man the ball. Like, he flutters balls. Um, they're gonna have to rely on Saquon on if they want to win this game because we've been terribly poor against the uh the run all season long, even before all the injuries. We just haven't really been good at stopping the run. Our our defensive tackles don't really move people, but they occupy space. Um, if they can rely on that, they gotta, they're gonna win. But I feel like, you know, I just feel like Kyle Shanahan has done enough to win Coach of the Year and really show people like, even though I have not won the big one, I am one of the top coaches in this league. I don't want to see nobody doing what he's doing with the type of stuff that he's had to deal with. He had a wide receiver that that just got paid that didn't even show up this year by choice. Um he got dudes out every week, and we go out there and put up 30 on people and win games. Um, I think it'll be a close one, but I do find a little revenge game in this one from the last time we were up there. Um so I'm gonna say, I'm gonna say Niners 28, uh Eagles 24. Sure, Mark, I love you, man.
SPEAKER_01You know I do, but gosh darney, man, you put me on the spot. Yeah, I I gotta go with the Eagles in this one, man. At home, you know, uh I think Jordan Davis and Nolan Smith and Jalen Carter and that gang on defense is gonna do a number to a depleted 49er team. And I love Christian McCantrick, but they're gonna stack the line to stop him and force Purdy. And you go back with Purdy about seven or eight years in Iowa State, they're gonna force him to uh throw the rock, man. You know, and uh Ricky Pearson and and the other cats, you're right about Shanahan, you know, dealing with a lot of injuries that are devastating. Who can lose a Bosa and Greenlaw and still perform at a high level and they've done it. But I think it's it's the it stops here. Pretty much show people, including me, that uh they can go on the road in Philly and I just blast a Sirianni. But they're at home, Mark, you know. I thought the game was upright, but they're at home, and I think the fact that uh that defense in and of itself is gonna do a number on your offense, you know, and and take it from there. Now, that being said, real quick, Marlene and Mark, their offense and and I kind of think the difference is Jalen Hurst, because he did go to two bowls and should have won two. He got one. But, you know, he goes noted, man. There is something going on in the locker room there, and they're not gonna slam uh Saquon Barkley 30 times. So Hurst has to make some plays. I'm picking the under. I'm taking a slow, uh, uh low-scoring game, 17-13 Eagles. But you're right on Jalen Hirsch, man, as far as being a pure passer. We talked about some of that with the legs and these running guys, but I gotta go with Philly in this one, just based on defense and their kicking game, special teams. Go ahead, Mark. I can see it.
Chargers At Patriots: Weather And Nerves
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. It's gonna be it's gonna be a great one. I I definitely want to see how uh the the Philly's defense holds up again and trying to slow down McCaffrey. Um, you know, Kittle should be ready to go. Uh they'll have the weapons there, so I'm I'm actually really excited uh for this game. So it's gonna be a great one. So uh all right, so on to uh Sunday Night football game, my game against the uh the Patriots. You guys know obviously where I sat on this one, uh offense has not been great, but we were able to muster out the season and still get 11 wins basically the whole season without our tackles, without Amari and Hampton uh dealing with uh I think it's uh 11, 12, 13 uh different offensive linemen groups. Like it's it's it's been crazy. But our do I'm hoping our defense is able to stop down Drake May and these running backs. Uh that's that's the only way that we're going to win this, it's gonna be through the defense. Um even with our and and I'm not really afraid of Denver if we if we do win this game and then go to Denver. You know, our our second team, they've got a pick six on us. Other than that, they didn't actually score a touchdown on us as far as Denver. And then going back when we played Houston, we let go those two bombs. Other than that, they didn't really score uh at all except for a couple field goals. So uh we're gonna have uh some of our guys back um with us resting. I'm happy that we were able to rest offensive and defensive side for Derwin, Khalil Mack, uh Thule, and on the offensive side, Keenan played because he needed to get his his money, obviously. But uh, you know, Ladd, Herbert, all those guys set out. So pretty much we've got an extra bye week right before the playoffs. I'm hoping it comes in handy. Uh this will indeed be a low-scoring game. I don't see them scoring over 17 points. Uh so I'm gonna say uh 19-16, an ugly, ugly game. It's gonna be about maybe 30 degrees, rainy, possible snow. Uh so I'm gonna say 19-16 charges on this one. Mark, who you got?
SPEAKER_00I like y'all, man. Uh, believe it or not, I give you I give you crap all the time about the Chargers, but I'll I don't put it past hardball. It's gonna be cold weather, it's gonna be a hardball game, man. I I expect y'all to pound the rock, keep Herbert safe, and then make time to throw. And I don't believe in in the Patriots for this simple reason. Um they play two playoff teams all year long. They hold schedule, they've only had two teams that are currently in the playoffs on their schedule. Um at some point that's gonna come back and and bite you. Um it's cool, it's a good story. Brable comes back, you know, May is is you know is looking good, looking like a good draft pick. But they lost to the Raiders week one. And then they the division has the Dolphins and the Jets. Yeah, I mean, they're not really they're not really tested. Um and the Bills, we all know the Bills are the Bills. Like you can you can go up and down the field with the Bills. So I don't see them being tested, and I like the Chargers defense in this one. Um I yeah, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go low, super low scoring on this one. Um I'm gonna say it's gonna be like 12-7, 12-9. Yeah. Uh that's all we're cool. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And and Doc, before you go, Mark, to your point, uh they play, I think it was week, I believe six. New Orleans, Tennessee, Cleveland, Falcons. Sorry, Doc. The Tampa Bay, uh, Tampa Bay, the Jets, the Cincinnati, Bengals Giants. So they had a span of eight or nine games against teams that have, I don't think neither of these teams have Doc, you and well, the Tampa Bay and you, you guys had the highest um uh for for win totals. So I think you guys have went through uh seven or eight wins. So and that that's stretched right there. They they haven't really, you know, had any competition. So I think and they have not faced a defense like ours. So I think that's what's gonna throw them off a little bit, and it's gonna we're we're definitely gonna bring the heat to Drake Mae for sure. Go ahead, Doc.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's a very good point, except that the postseason is different. Who has more postseason experience within all the legends in Bravo? And you can argue Mark and Marlon that Vrabel should be uh coach of the year, except for the guy in Jacques, Liam Cohen, and the guy in Denver, Peyton. But uh he's gotten the most out of this kid in the second year, and you gotta give him props for that. Now, they do have some injuries on the defensive side of the bar, major injuries, but they do have a dynamic rookie running back, Marlon, and Mark and Henderson, the rookie out of Ohio State, who has wheels. I think the only way the Chargers win is if your quarterback Justin Herman doesn't start tripping, you know, because he has a history in big spots throwing kicks and fumbles. And how how how uh how's that left wrist or arm doing him? It's gonna be cold if he gets hit on that left arm, non-throwing arm. How's he gonna react? I I just think I just think that Drake May, who has a 70% completion rate, Mark, I know what you're saying about the schedule, but you better believe Ray was gonna bring it at home. Now, how far they go is gonna be a testament to how mature Drake May is. But I gotta go with the Patriots at home. Sorry, Marlon. I gotta go 20 to 16 pass based on the running game and and all that. And I don't trust Herbert, man. Sorry, Marlon, you know, and a big spot on the road.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you don't trust Herbert, but you don't trust Herbert, but you're trusting the dude in his first career playoff game.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely, man. All those Patriots fans, the running game, did that kid run for the running game, and I know Frable's not gonna put him in uncomfortable positions. And as Marlon referenced, you know, Amerian Hampkins coming off inch, we might have to be nicked up a little bit. But it's on the road, man, you know, and and it's one of those things until Herbert does it, you know, even though he's a veteran in six years, we'll we have to see. And Drake May, he's he's up for the MVP. I don't think he'll get it. But the reason why Rabel, you know, got that job to be going with. I gotta go 20 and 16. So we disagree on three more in a month. Uh there you go, right there.
SPEAKER_00All right. And the last you don't know how far they're gonna go. I'm gonna tell you, January 11th, Monday night is how far they go. They're gonna be dumb.
SPEAKER_01Nah, they're gonna be dumb after that. This is great dialogue. I love it, man. I love it. You know, I just I just trust Ray Bore than I do the coach for the for saying for the charges.
Texans At Steelers: Defense Rules
SPEAKER_03All right. So last uh so last game, Monday night football, the the Houston Texans with an extra day rest, by the way, I might add, uh, going up against um, well, pretty much they both got an extra day, but they got a little three, four hours more. But uh Houston at Pittsburgh on the Monday night game. Um spread on this one is is uh Houston is uh favored by three on this one. So uh Doc, who do you like in this one?
SPEAKER_01Oh man, I'm gonna I'm I'm gonna go with Houston in that defense. I gotta go with CJ Stroud, man. I know the Steelers are a nice drawer. They should have lost last night. The old man, he was missing throws. But trust me, DeMark, DeMark, Damico Ryan's mark, he got that defense humming, and those cats, Tuttle, and then and Will Anderson Jr. I think they're gonna do a number on the old man in Pittsburgh, even though it's in Pittsburgh. And I love uh Houston's complimentary pieces. Nico Bale, uh Nico Collins, I'm sorry, and then they got the running game with Chubb and the other cat. I forget the other running back's name, but I think CJ, yeah, Willie Marks. And he's underrated. He's underrated. I say I'm taking CJ Stroud, and I know Steel and Nation gonna be pissed at old doc, but this is big boy football and a young quarterback with uh a dynamite defense. And the Steelers got a defense too, but they don't get after the quarterback the way uh Houston, Texans do. Remember, CJ Stroud, he can evade the pocket. He's got little wheels on, you know. And I I'm taking uh 23-7. I don't even know if the Steelers gonna score 17. I'll give him 13. How about that? 23-13 Houston. Mark your call on that.
SPEAKER_00I don't even want to pick this game because this is gonna be an ugly game to watch. I think this is gonna be one of the worst games to watch in the playoffs. Um, I'm not impressed with CJ Stroud or that offense like you are, Doc. I know they got weapons and and we can go over that, but proof in the pudding is just they ain't put it together on offense. And this is his second year after taking off last year out of nowhere. And he's actually regressed. You put that on the road against Mike Comlin. I'm not betting against Mike Tomlin. I love meeting Mike Tomlin, and I hope he does the kiss to death again. So I'm gonna go, it's gonna be a field goal game because I don't believe in the Steelers offense, but they I believe they can get close enough and make some field goals on their home turf. I'm gonna go 15-15-7 Steelers.
SPEAKER_01And remember, DK Metcalf jumped, and he'll be done with his two-game suspension, and he should, although they lost Deep Donnell Washington, a massive tight end. DK Metcalf's gonna make plays. But will Aaron Rodgers be accurate enough under that ferocious pass rush to make it? So we disagree on four. You're calling on that game, Warner. You know, that's it's still a nation at home.
Black Monday: Six Coaches Out
SPEAKER_03Uh I I think still Stillers are beatable, you know, and and especially with this defense. I saw this defense a couple weeks ago and all the pressures that they put on Justin Herbert. So I know what they can do. Um, the the the Stillers O-line is is all right. They're not great, they're okay. Um, but uh the they're gonna put so much pressure on Roger and he can't run. So if you put pressure on them and that way you can't get the ball out fast enough, it's gonna be a wrap. So uh I think that but it depends on what TuJ's trying to get to on offense. So this is gonna be a game where if Houston wins it, I think they're gonna do it through the defense because Houston's offense has very been up and down. So Two Just come back, they've uh structured as being really good, but for the most part, they've been very inconsistent. So definitely like the uh Houston's defense on this one. Um even though TJ Watt's coming back, um I still think Houston's defense is is much better, if not the best defense in the league. So they're gonna do it. They'll get at least a pick six, a turnover, a fumble. They'll they'll put Rogers on his back so many times. It's it's it's gonna be easy for him at that point.
SPEAKER_01So um yeah, so I'll mark point, Marlon. Go ahead. Uh uh Kai Fairborn is a kicker. He's damn good for Houston. But excuse me. Oh Game Well, the running back and Warren for the running back for the Steelers, they've been balling out. So you might see something there to Mark's point offensively, if Aaron Rodgers, because he's not gonna do it by himself. But I love the running game for the Steelers. So yeah. But I love the special team play by the kicker for Kai Fairborne and that defense. But yeah, so we disagree on four, Mark. Go ahead, Marlon.
SPEAKER_03All right, so we had uh before we get into the college, we had six coaches fired. It is Black Monday, so we got to dive into it real quick. Uh Doc, I don't know if there's any surprise with your coach. Uh Kevin Safanski. It's I I don't know how much of it's his fault. The Browns are just cursed, so anybody would have got fired in that situation. Uh Pete Carroll, I wish he would have stayed another year. I wish he would have stayed another five years. I thought they were doing great. Um the the Cardinals, the Cardinals and Jonathan Gannon's gone. Uh Brian uh Callahan's gone with the Titans and the Giants fire Brian Dayball. So, Mark, um what what which one stuck out to you the most uh out of these six firings?
SPEAKER_00Uh I thought Raheem Morris getting fired and Fontanel getting fired was pretty surprising. Arthur Blankett's pretty loyal to people. Um, and they were on a streak at the end of the season that could have carried over into talks and been like, look, man, we we're getting this thing turned around. People are starting to play into their ability, you know, get one more year under our belt, you know, we get you know, get the quarterback situation taken care of. But Fontenle had to get fired for taking pendicks. That was just that was atrocious. Um after you signed your cousins. Um Morris, Raheem Morris has never been a good coach. He's a good coordinator. Some people are just born to be coordinators and coaches. It was a terrible hire, which I said it was when they did it. Um, and they're gonna do it again because they're gonna hire Matt Ryan, who has no experience. Um so that to me was the most surprising, just based off of Arthur Blank usually keeping guys around a little too too long. Um, so I was surprised at that one. All the other ones I kind of saw coming because they actually did things in games that that proved that they wanted to get fired. Raheem Morris actually tried to coach to keep his job. I didn't see that with any of the other guys.
College Chaos: Georgia’s Gamble And Ole Miss Momentum
SPEAKER_01That's fair. That's fair, Mark. But I will tell you this there was some devastating things that went on in the coaching and losing games, and it started last year with the Washington Commanders game, now utilizing his timeout, keeping him in his pocket in a game we should have won. On one of Phoenix's best outings as a rook as a rookie. And then in uh losing at home the following week in week 18. But that's last year, Carolina. This year, the 30-nothing shutout on the division on the road. We had no answers with this roster here, losing to the New York Jets, which is a never, never a thing. And then yeah, you laughing, that's true. And uh that that should never happen, man. And do a backup quarter. It wasn't just some fields, watch Martin. It was somebody else. It was somebody else. And then you lose to um Tour, a guy that got benched late in the year in Miami. He does four TV passes, look like Merino's four TV passes. You lose to Miami. They had one win at the time. You can't forgive that. One holding on to this for a minute. Get it off your chest, Doc. Yeah, brother. Yeah, I'm glad they're gone. And as Mark referenced, Marlin, it's one of those things where you can't get quarterbacks growing on trees. But they did sign uh Kirk and he was coming off an Achilles, and you draft Pennicks, or we should have got Jared Verse or the kid from Alabama, number 15, is Doc Turner, Dallas Turner. But you drafted Pennett, and we was all right with that last year and early this year. But it's one of those things where, you know, he's hurt now, he won't come back in October. When Verse was the defensive rookie of the year last year. Now we did correct that. James Pierce had 10 sacks. We gave up a number one to the Rams, Mark, as you know. And now, of course, Jalen Walker had a solid year as a rookie, but he's still a rookie. You know, the rookie from Notre Dame, they had the team with five interceptions. He leaves all rookies in that regard. So it was a little bit surprising that Farnloth got the axe. But the quarterback thing is Mark reference. That messed him up. And then you lose him to teams. And we even lost to Carolina at home. We win one of those three games, Jess, Miami, or Carolina at home. And we win the division in nine and eight. But the Jets thing, that's that's wretched. Did you see the Jets down the stretch mark? They getting blown out by 23 points on the average. But we lost to those.
SPEAKER_00NFL history with no interception. I've never seen that in my life. We're getting two lost to it.
SPEAKER_01And remember, and remember, Marlon and Mark, Quinn Williams wasn't on that team. They had traded him to Dallas. Tim Ansaw's Gardner was gone. Sauce went to coast, and then we and we still lost to the New York Jets. So good riddance to them. Yeah. It wasn't a surprise to me. I was clamoring for it. The fourth game winning streak, Mark, as you referenced nice, but goodbye. Goodbye and good riddance, you know. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00You didn't have a good year though, because you at least know that Bijan is something special. Oh, yeah. You got that confirmed. That dude is legit. Like, I'm in. Drake Glenn actually caught some passes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. 88 catches, Mark. 88 catches. But that's neither here nor there. Yeah. It started bad when we lost by one at the house against Tampa Bay because Coo at the time was that kicker mixed missed a field goal to win. And we we've gone through four kickers. And who charge who's in charge of that? Again, the personnel is it's your boy, Lawrence. You know? But uh yeah, there you go right there, Marlon. You know, right there. All right. But I got something else to get out my chest, but go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I kind of think I know where you're going. I kind of think I know where you're going on this one, so we'll dive right into it. This was the most entertaining game of the college football weekend. And um I mean Oregon, uh 23,000 with the North Coast, I guess Indiana, uh Miami and somewhat competitive. Miami comes out on top 1 by 10. But uh the Georgia Bulldogs. Um Doc, if you want to get it off your chat, go ahead, my brother.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Mark, this is one of my things here weekly. Georgia went 12-1 in the SEC. We had close wins all year. And we go against this kid, uh, Trinidad Chambless, up 21 to 12 at the half, and we don't close it out based on some buffoonery by Kirby Small, who has won some big games, Mark. And he does the the no thing fourth and two with nine minutes 38 seconds left instead of punting down uh only three. We go for it. The kid uh the kid uh gonna stalk and fumbles the next play. Uh Trinidad Chandler takes the van and throws a touchdown to their receiver. Now, it goes against all kinds of protocol and conservative that Kirby Smart's shown in his 10 years in Athens, gentlemen, that we go on at the 20, you're on 28, fourth and two, you know? And we have the All-American punter who won the Ray Gary Award and Brett Thorson. But you go for it and it blows up. And then what's getting forgotten, fellas, is this. We had a fake punt in the third that was executed properly to get us some points against Ole Miss, and we get a field goal out of it. The fake punt was brilliant. Two reverses and a throw-down field to the tight end. But that gets lost because of the buffoonery we did, and uh Kirby Smart would he will not take, you know, credit for or just say that it was my bad. He said we're trying to be aggressive. There's a way to be aggressive, and there's a stupid way to be aggressive. And it hurts that we lost to Ole Miss a team that we beat, and Trinidad Champions clowned us. You know, I don't think he'll he'll he'll beat Miami because Miami has number four, Payne Jr., the other edge rusher, and they're a very physical team on defense, Mark. But this one's stuck with old Crog. January 1, that's not good to old Doc, man, you know, and his wife. You know my wife to Bama fan. They got plaster. But we should have beat Old Mitch up 21 to 12. Nine points at the half. With all kinds of experience, including that chat, we lost to Ole Mitch. Your take on Kirby Smart, Mark, and that those decisions down the stretch.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I thought it was one of the most mind-boggling, horrific calls I've seen in a while, especially coming from a guy like Kirby Smart. But I will say this, after watching the earlier games, I think this NIL stuff has got these coaches panicking like it's no other. Because I saw so many fourths and twos on their own side of the field, not even close to midfield, and people going for it in the first half. Like, you giving away momentum, you giving away points. Um, once they didn't get that, the left tackle didn't even get off the ball. Like he thought that they were running something else. Um, they could have put it, made them go the whole distance of the field. But after watching the earlier games, I'm like, oh, this is Georgia's year to win the whole thing. Like, there's there's nobody better than these cats. Like, we're good. Like, I'm I'm just gonna say Georgia. But after watching that game, y'all just made old miss the team of destiny, bro. They about to win the whole thing. They got everything going for them right now. They got all the motivation in the world. The doubters, all they've got natural motivation that these teams are not even considering. They're gonna win the whole thing. I'm telling you, they're gonna win the whole thing.
SPEAKER_01Well, they got the big, the big defensive tackle Harrison, 6'8, 330. But we kind of beat up, but he's massive. But then the running back Lacey tore us up late, you know, as you referenced Mark. Yeah, he's a late. Yeah, and then Trinidad Chamber, he might be undersized, man. He's only six feet, but the guy's a playmaker. He won two nannies at Ferris State. Never even heard of Ferris State. But this guy's a winner. He made plays, he's mobile, and he's accurate. You know, he's accurate as a running quarterback, as we talked about earlier with some of these athletic quarterbacks. This kid made throws down the field against Georgia's secondary, uh, that I couldn't believe. Running round, bootlegging ball, like things you do in your backyard, Marlin. You saw the game. God was reversing fields. He clowned us.
SPEAKER_00You know, and uh he was A1 mixtaping, y'all.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yes, he was. But uh it's a it's a devastating defeat. And uh all I got is to wait till next year. And then, you know, a lot of people pick Georgia to win it all, especially against Kirk Signetti. But we'll we'll see going for it, man. I'm taking, I'm taking old Mr. Shock and uh Carson Beck. I'm not sold on Carson Beck in the big spot. He did at Georgia, he lost to SMU and Louisville to terrible teams. So I like, even though I like Miami's defense, Pain and Carly Beal, top ten pick in the draft, the edge rusher, and the other cat, I think Trinidad Chamber is the wrong is the real deal. Uh and I'm taking Indiana, Mendoza, and the other one to beat uh Oregon. Oh yeah. They'll they'll beat that. Yeah, Oregon. Yeah. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01College football. There you go, right there. Go ahead, Mark.
SPEAKER_03And and so, so Mark, you got you got uh Ole Miss winning it all, huh? Don't think anybody from uh Indiana, Oregon will be any competition?
SPEAKER_00Nah. No, no, no, no. I'm uh nah. I think Ole Miss, like you just sometimes, and y'all seen y'all watch enough sports, and sometimes when you just wait for that that Cinderella story to die because you just don't believe in it, it just keeps going. And before you know it, it's too late to stop it. And I think it's too late to stop it. Um winning that game the way they won, I think it's too late to stop these kids. These kids now now they got a lot of stuff on their side. They talking, they didn't say nothing negative about Lane Kippen, you know, when the decision came out, and I respected the heck out of that because they could have easily been, you know, oh, this is ridiculous. Like I came here for like they could have used that as a crutch. Um but they when they beat Georgia, they said we did it even without our coach. We've overcome so much this year. Um I think I think they just got the momentum, bro. And and on neutral, neutral field, yeah. I think that defense for uh for Ole Miss is legit. Um the offense can hang with anybody. And it's and I mean Indiana got to get past Oregon. I'm not a big Oregon fan because I hate their coach. I think he's a blowheart. Um I just don't like I don't like front runners and what he said about Deion Sanders and them uh two years ago. Oh yeah, I remember that. I really lost a lot of respect for guys like that.
SPEAKER_03Um they're playing for clicks.
SPEAKER_00Because they were better than than yeah, they playing for clicks. I was like, bruh, you at home, you're supposed to beat them by 50. They won one game last year. Let's let's get off of it. I don't like him. I I think dudes like that are just who they are. Um, but I do like the coach for Ole Miss. Like he he was given an opportunity um out of nowhere, but I don't think he's gonna do anything to jeopardize that. And he's gonna have these dudes ready. I and they're playing for each other to prove that it wasn't, they didn't need like ain't no other team really got that going on for themselves. They just trying to win. This team has got more to prove than any other team. So they're just gonna go out there and play like it's their last game, regardless of what happens, because they don't even know where they're gonna be at next year. So I like them. I'm looking for them. I think they got most of the country on their side right now, and and that's gonna go a long way.
SPEAKER_01And this is Ole Miss, a school that Archie Manning went to in the 60s, and Eli Manning, uh, his name, you know, back there. This is Ole Miss, man, and Mark makes it good. They are Moxie. They have confidence. Down 21-12 in a big spot, and they beat Georgia, big bad Georgia. They got the it factor now, as Marlon referenced, you know. And I referenced Carson Beck because I know him. He played for Georgia. And a big spot, he throws two in the seven. You do four against Louisville. So what the hell are you gonna do against Ole Miss's defense? This ain't the AC fear, you know. So um, that Harrison, man, 6'8, 330. He was a low, batting down passes. My quarterback's only six feet, you know. But uh, I don't, but Beck is 6'4, 6'5. You put pressure on him, that's it. So I'm I'm taking on this too. The other one, Dante Moore for Oregon, man, is predicted to go in the top five. I want to see what he does against Indiana's defense. That's another it factor team, Marlon Mark. So we'll we'll see on that. I I gotta go with Mendoza in that one. Yeah. I I've been doing them all year. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. That's right. They played in Austin Stadium and Indiana won. Remember? Week two. Something like that.
Final Picks, Parting Shots, And Sign-Off
SPEAKER_00I think Indiana defense is way better than who he fit last week. Them dudes is real too. They are.
SPEAKER_01That's right. So there you go right there, Marlon. This is great stuff, man.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's that's all I got for you guys, man. You guys got anything else?
SPEAKER_01No, not really. We get in the NBA when it's time. You know, uh, it's all about football now.
SPEAKER_00You know, you ain't gotta talk NBA back. We we know what you got going on down there. Yeah, that's right. That's right, brother.
SPEAKER_01Oh, this was such a blessing, man, with this college on football and pro football talk. I will say this, Marlon, Marlin to Mark. And then I I said this during our show. It was red hot. But Lamar Jackson, man, he's gonna take a beating, man. You know, and as Mark said, uh, is it's one of those things where the legs go. Now you gotta prove that you can work on the pass. He's making big money, Mark. You know, big money, huge money. And so I think some people in Baltimore hate that fact that he's representing himself and he can't deliver. But it but it's not him this time. Last year was Mark Andrews. The only reason I can blame Lamar Jackson, Mark, and we can talk about that as ad naughty, is when he had the number one seed two or three years ago on a loss at the crib to uh to uh number 15 in Kansas City. He had a horrible game. Horrible. But uh last night that wasn't on him. So yeah, that's all I got.
SPEAKER_00When that weather changed, when that weather changed, he's a totally different quarterback, man. When the beginning of the season, he's lighting everybody up because it's hot outside. When that weather changed, yeah, it's something different. But uh no, I enjoyed this, and you know, it's gonna be nice. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. We got football.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's right. So that's right, bro. Absolutely. Thanks for football. That's a lot of people.
SPEAKER_03We appreciate you guys for listening and joining, and we will uh recap these games and catch you guys next week. Peace. Peace.
SPEAKER_01Thanks, Mark.
