Welcome And Guest Setup

SPEAKER_04

And welcome everybody to another episode of Real Talk Doc. You doing all right today?

SPEAKER_03

Yes, I am. Very excited about our new guest. You know, you do the intro, brother. Let's do it. We're blessed.

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely. So I talk to this guy in and out uh every week about uh various his various teams, OU, Giants, Yankees, all that stuff. So and a lot of, of course, a lot of college football in general. So Kenny joins us. What's up, Kenny? How you doing, man?

SPEAKER_00

I'm doing great coach and on it. Um, you guys can see me in the cycle sports.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely welcome aboard to all right. Rock and roll with it.

All-Time NBA Starting Five

SPEAKER_04

So we'll dive into it. Of course, we have a draft coming up in a couple days, so Doc will give us top 15 picks. Uh, we'll talk, of course, NBA playoffs going on right now, and we'll touch on some MLB after that. So uh first, just so that we can kind of get a feel for you to your tools and uh four phone, drive four, uh, and NBA phone uh in total. So I'll start with the MBA real quick. So if you were to put together your top five of all time, it could be in any uh era or whatever, if you're putting together a one through five, and then I I'll give you a uh a six-man two as well. So if you were to put together your starting five of all time, who would it be?

SPEAKER_00

All right, so uh at point guard, it's gotta go with the magic man himself. Matt Johnson, you just can't beat a six nine guard with vision.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

At number two, I'm gonna go with the goat, my personal goat, Michael Jordan. Um at the three tough. I I grew up watching eighties and nineties, so um I'm I'm gonna have to tip tip my hat to uh Larry Legend.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Right on and for my four let's go Tim Duncan. Okay. And number four and at my center, um, I think this guy has just dominated basketball on every level, high school in New York, uh, college at UCLA, and certainly did his thing in Milwaukee and LA. I gotta go with the one and only Krim Abdul Jabbar.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

And then that's my sixth man. He's he's he's my he's really my all-time favorite player, D. Kobe Bean Bryant.

SPEAKER_03

I like that. Oh man, I don't have an argue with any of that, uh, Kenny. You know, you can make an argument for Tim Duncan as your four. You know, that's a strong argument. We'll talk about that another time, but I love Big Cap. Of course, I love Magic, you know, Jordan Bird. Bird owned the eats back then in the 80s. We hated him. You have to respect him, though. You know, all those Milwaukee Bucks came all in with, you know, Bob Lanier, Sidney Moncrief, you know, and Albert Robinson, and then the Hawks had Dominique Wilkins and Kevin Willis. The Sixers had Dr. J Mosulon, but Bird ruled us all. So yeah, that's a good lineup, man. As much as far as Kareem Big Cap, uh, you know, he won in high school, Power Memorial, and he went 33-3 with three national titles on the wooden in college, and then he won a as a second-year player with Oscar Robert with Milwaukee, and he won five with this with the Lakers. So, yeah, good job on that, Kenny. There you go. I don't argue with it. Yeah. Good job, Marvin.

Building An All-Time Giants Team

SPEAKER_04

Let's go, Marvin. Absolutely. So, all right, so now switching over to the NFL. So you're a huge Giants fan. So we'll talk about some news with trades and everything that just happened earlier this week. So if you're putting together a team, an all-time Giants roster. So I'm gonna give you a quarterback, two running backs, three receivers, a tight end. You know, we we love the we love the big fellas up front. We're not gonna worry about O-line right now. Uh, and on the defense, we got four uh D tackles, edge, whatever you want to call it, three linebackers, and then four corners and four safety. So, real quick, who's your starting all-time Giants team? Go ahead.

SPEAKER_00

All right, so it probably wouldn't let me back into the state of uh the city of New York, let alone the state of New York, is Eli isn't my quarterback. So uh we'll start there. Now, when it comes to uh my running backs, I'm going to go let's go with uh Saquon Barkley and then we will go with Mr. Tiki Barber. Uh as you know Tiki is the all-time leading Russia for the Giants. Um he was an amazing running back. He may not have the greatest personality, but um man, he he did a lot of carrying from uh what 97 to 06 that he played. And then of course Saquon was just man, I I hate I hated see him go to Philadelphia. You know, it broke my heart to watch him get the 2,000 yards, but I was happy that uh he got the Super Bowl. I mean, he he was just to me, had he stayed with the Giants hands down, he's the greatest Giants running back ever. It wouldn't have even been close.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Now for my wide receivers, um we're gonna go Amani Toomer. That was part of that that era with Tiki. Um I'm gonna go my boy Odell Beckham Jr. Nice and then I'm gonna round it out with uh Victor Cruz. He was a nice I think he would have been one that would have put up better numbers, but I don't know what it is. With with New York and wide receivers, we just can't stay healthy. You know, so yeah. But those those are my three.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Tight end. That's good, brother.

SPEAKER_00

Now tighting at a little is a little it's a little tricky. Um but I'm gonna give it to Kevin Boss. Um he was part of the uh the run from 07 to 10. Um and he just he played he played a key part of that Super Bowl, uh that Super Bowl run that we had in uh 2007. And of course he had some other cats, you know, like uh Mark Guevaro and and and Jeremy Shockey, of course Shocky was injured uh during that run, unfortunately. Um yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and give it to uh Kevin Boss.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. And what about that defense?

SPEAKER_00

Alright. Sounds good.

SPEAKER_02

Let's see what we got next. Now defense is where it gets tricky. So here's my here's my defensive line. We're gonna go straight ham. I'm gonna go litter marshall. Justin five. I'm gonna go, let's see.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna give you OCM. Yeah, it's a four right there.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, my four. And then for my linebackers since we ran a ran a three uh three, four, I'm gonna give you Morris Taylor.

SPEAKER_00

We'll do uh Carl Banks. I'm gonna show some love to a Dallas native and Jesse Armstead. And then just one of my personal favorites because of Jesse uh just the way he played the game, Antonio Pierce.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I love it, I love it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. All right, and and uh corners and safeties?

SPEAKER_02

Corners and safeties, all right, so give me uh Landon Collins. Wow, yeah. Uh let me see, let me see. Oh, I know, I know.

SPEAKER_00

Um I'm gonna give this last one to Mr. Emlin Tunnell. Uh Wow, good job. First first African American to play for the Giants. And quite honestly, you he's arguably the best player in team history. So I'm gonna close it out showing respect to a pioneer.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, all right, Doc. This is great stuff, Marlon. This is great stuff. I love it, man. You know, he got the old school, he got historic people like Emily and Tunnel, and he mentioned arguably the greatest defender in NFL history and Lawrence Taylor. Some big buckets lovers out there to listen to the show, but LT is it. So good job on that, brother. I would have personally picked Mark Vivaro on the outside looking, looking in, and then I'm old enough to remember Terry Connard at safety. But this this is your show. This is this is you. So good job on that. Uh and uh we'll take it from there.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, absolutely.

Picking The Five Best Yankees

SPEAKER_04

All right, so last question I got for you, we're gonna dive into the draft uh and everything. So uh baseball. I don't know this is a hard question. It's it's it's it's it's kind of a loaded question. You know, Yankee as a Yankees fan. I'm just asking you to pick five players. Give me your five best players. The five best whether, you know, uh no matter the the position, if you had to pick five best Yankees, and just give me a list of the five. Who do you got? I know it's tough, but who you got?

SPEAKER_00

All right, so I gotta go with my all-time favorite, uh the captain, uh Dave Jeter. Uh then I gotta go with who I believe is the greatest closer in baseball history and Marion Rivera. Um that includes the Bay Bay Ruth, I think that's uh three. Uh I'm gonna give it to number seven. The great Mick, Mickey Mammoth. And then uh wanna pay tribute to another one, another another uh black pioneer, Mr. Uh Elson Howard the Catcher. He um was there with Yogi Bear, but he's also has his number retired and uh also the Hall of Fame, so that's gonna be my top five.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

Giants Trade And Odell Talk

SPEAKER_03

Wow. Oh good job on that, brother. You can't be a Yankee fan and not miss your Snakey Panel. So yeah, good job on that, brother. Um, Marlon, this guy, we got to get you back on. But go ahead, Marlon. Let's do it. Keep it rolling. Absolutely. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Doc, all right. So we're gonna start with you real quick. Um, I know that this is uh we we are in draft week and we're gonna get to your top 15 picks uh real quick, but we did have a trade with the New York Giants. So this is uh this is Ken's team. But doc, I want to want your thoughts on the trade uh with the Bengals. I I didn't think I I I asked uh we talked with a few people uh that are Giants fans, and they said that's a that's a that's a lot. That's a given up, you know. But I mean I I I'll take it if you're the Giants. I mean, you can go ahead and you know take him for somebody that's who's a really good player, but for the 10th overall pick, you know. So what were your thoughts overall on the trade with what the Giants did?

SPEAKER_03

Well, I love the trade for the Giants, and not because Kenny's on the show. This was a no-brainer man, a disgruntled player that could have ruined the locker room, Kenny. And you had to get out of there. And the fact that you got a number one form and a top 10 pick, that that that's that's that's good. You know, you can criticize the Bengals for giving up a lot, but the Giants have to jump on that. And you got a new staff coming in. So you want everything running smoothly with no issues, and uh, I think Harbaugh did what he could to try to say the right things in the public in the press, but you had to get rid of that, you know, and and take it from there. He's a great player, he's 28 or 29. Now you go into the draft with some possibilities to get two different plays, or if you want to go a receiver on a defense, you got the prime picks, man. You can't argue with number five and number 10 in a loaded draft, you know. So good job on that, Kenny. And uh I I get it at Giants are A plus, Marlon, to answer your question. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

All right, Kenny, thoughts on the trade.

SPEAKER_00

You know, when I woke up Sunday morning, was the Sunday happen? Yeah, when I woke up Sunday morning and I saw uh Big Dexter's out, I was a little hurt. But when I saw we got back for it, I'm like, coach, hey, I love it. I love it. You know, you you you hate to see a uh a cornerstone of your defensive line go. Um, but for the first time in a long time, I really feel like the Giants have an actual direction. Like leadership knows what they're doing, um, especially with John Brennan and John Harbor. So, hey, having a fifth pick and a tenth pick in this draft is gonna allow us to uh certainly address a lot of needs, um, whether we start in the secondary or we focus um on the interior defensive line or we we we focus on that offensive line. So um it's definitely going to open up uh more options for us and allow us to short this team sooner rather than later.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Absolutely. Okay. And then there was news yesterday that you guys brought in Odell for a workout in physical. What are your thoughts on Odell possibly coming back a little reunion, pairing him up with uh neighbors, with Jackson Dart uh out there throwing him the ball? What are your thoughts on on that, Kenny?

SPEAKER_00

You know, I still have my Odell Beckham jersey hanging in the closet just in case there was a reunion. Uh so I think it's it's it's it's it's smart. One, it gives us uh veteran leadership in the wide receiver core. Um, even though Dallas has some issues or not has some had quite a few issues with injuries, he is still shown to be able to get open. And even if he's not gonna be your number one, um he is still a threat as a second or third option. Uh with neighbors coming back from the injury, you're gonna need somebody in in the meantime to help carry that load for a young quarterback. So I like it. Hopefully it works out. Um it'd be a good way for, in my opinion, for Adele to close out his career. Um, I didn't like the way uh he departed. Uh unfortunately that regime is gone, and it seems like we have uh people who understand the game and uh how to run an actual franchise now.

SPEAKER_03

All right, yeah. The Giants are making moves, Marlon. You could they're gonna try to compete for this NFC East. Who said they had to buck last year? Kenny, I know it's been rough on you the past few years, but now you got your quarterback in Jackson Darton, and Scatterboot looks like he's on his way back. And your defense has been solid. I love Brian Burns on defense. I love the other kid out of Oregon in his third year, third or fourth year, Thibodeau. So you got some building blocks, man. And uh I wish you luck in the NFC East, one of the toughest divisions in football, or high profile, let's put it that way. Because you know the Washington Commanders and Dallas, and of course, uh uh, you know, then the Eagles. So yeah, good luck. So this is a good response here. Yeah. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, Doc. All right, so uh this is what everybody's been waiting for. Your uh this will be the the final uh Doc mock that we'll have. So we'll do the uh picks. What do you want to do? One through 15? Yeah, yeah. Yep, we'll we'll dive into that and then we'll possibly get into a few sleepers as well. So go ahead, Doc. Floor's yours.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, uh first overall is my wife's Raiders and Raider Essence Raiders. Of course, Fernando Mendoza, quarterback out of Indiana, did everything perfect. Guess it, uh he's got good arm strength, you know, he doesn't have the hours here that Hellway or Josh Allen have, but he has movement skills too. And his toughness, you know, as as he shown against the University of Miami getting nailed on the goal line and still scoring and didn't phase him. He's the obvious number one pick for the Raiders, who's a franchise altering quarterback. You just plug him in and play, Kenny, and you'll be good there for 10 to 12 years. Uh second pick, the Jets. Jets have so much, man, but I'll be remiss if they didn't go RVL Reese, a freak of nature athlete, edge rusher, linebacker out of Ohio State, young man 20, that uh the coach up there can groom, you know. And uh R Reese, he's a he's a master. He's a freak of nature, much like Javon Courage many years ago when he came out of the University of Florida. I think Rvell Reese's space and edge is gonna be a difference maker. Now, number three, David Bailey. He's the best pure pass rusher in this draft out of Texas Tech. He's a good edge. Arizona needs defense, and they'll be enticed by the running back, but they're not gonna go there. They need to stop people in that division uh in the NFC West. And uh you got to go with Stafford, and you got uh the guy up in Purdy and Frisco, and of course, the Seattle quarterback who just won the poll. So David Bailey is the edge. And I love his skill set, ran a 4-5-0 at the combine. He's number three. Number four, the Titans. Here, y'all, the best player arguably in the draft is Jeremiah, you know, love out of know the game. This is gonna help out Camp and the quarterback, and I just feel like this is the way to go to help the young quarterback. This guy can catch the ball. You can put him in the slot as a receiver, you know, he's toughness out of uh, you know, Notre Dame. And he ran a four, he ran a four-three, I think, at the comeback. Yeah. So number four, Titans get Jeremiah. Number five, the Giants, Kenny's Giants, New York's team. I got him taking Sonny Styles, the linebacker of Ohio State. Another freak of nature athlete, playmaker and linebacker. Was all over the field in the national title game. Uh, you know, his dad played Lorenzo's time, but Sonny Styles is his own man, great size, great instincts. You can put him in space. He sinks his hips and pass coverage, but he's a plug-in play guy for the next 10 years. You know, uh, when I think of a comp, you could say, well, he could be a Carrie Carson or Carl Banks at the same time out of Ohio State, big time school. The Browns are number six. They go Carnell Tate, who I think is the best wide receiver in the draft, you know, made big plays for Ohio State, excellent size, excellent speed. It was a little disappointing in the 40 at Ohio at the combine, but I think he can run a 4-5, 4-4. Excuse me. He ran a 4-5 of the combine. I think he can get it down to 4-4-7 for the Browns. The Browns need weapons, fellas. Whether whoever plays quarterback, Deshaun Watson or Shador, you know, or the other cat, they need weapons. So I got Carnel Tate going to the Browns at six. Number seven in your division, Kenny, the Commanders. They lost the running back, but I think they need help up front. Francis Mayoga, the offensive tackle, big boy out of Miami. I think they go there and to protect Jaden Daniels, who missed significant time, you know, last year, and it really hurt their season. You got to protect him. He's really he's really a thin guy on a thin frame. So if you go big guy to help him out, and Francis Mayoga, Mayoga, excuse me, out of Miami at offensive tackle, number seven. The Saints at number eight. I got him taking Jordan Tyson, so some people think he's the best receiver in the draft. The only thing I didn't put him up there is because he has a medical. He's on he's hurt. You know, if he's healthy, he's a great player out of Arizona State, the wide receiver. And what better way to help the young quarterback at New Orleans than to get him a playmaker? Assuming the medical comes through for the regular season, which I think he will, but I he's my second wide receiver off the board. So the Saints get Jordan Tyson out of Arizona State at eight. Number nine, the Chiefs. This was a no-brainer, fellas. They lost in a secondary, both corners. So I got them taking Mansur Delane, the cornerback out of LSU. Uh, he's the best pure cover corner in the draft, I think, with no injury issues. And I I think you put him on the island, he could do the thing there for the Chiefs. It'd be a rookie, and they'll probably test them. But the guy ran a uh a low 4 4 1 at the combine or at his workout, excuse me. And uh you didn't hear from him much because LSU was traumatic under the coach Kelly. When he got blown out, by the way. But this guy's a real deal, man. I love his length. I love the way he backpedals. I love the way he tackles. And you shut down some of the best receivers he played in the SEC, Kenny. So I'm taking Mansur Delane with the Chiefs at nine. Number 10, your Giants, everybody's Giants, it seemed like great trade. Caleb Downs, the safety. I told Adam Shine, Kenny, that he's the best peer football player in this draft. I remember he was a freshman All-American at Alabama under Nick Saban. Former five-star recruit. You can put him at the slot in a pinch, or he can play corner. I love the way this guy backpedals. He attacks the ball. He may not be the Troy Palomato kamikaze guy at safety, Marlon and Kenny, but he's the comp of Ed Reed, instincts, maturity, the ability to call a defense. That's what he did at two big-time schools. Caleb Downs at 10. Number 11, Makai Lemon, the wide receiver out of U.S.C. The Dolphins need weapons because Tyree Hill, I think he's done physically in an NFL, and I think the Dolphins will do no worse than get a receiver, a young guy out of U.S. C in a big city in LA, that it won't be too much to go down to Miami. And I love his skill set too. He's a notch below the first two, but I think Makin Lemon's going to be a playmaker for Malik Willis down there in Miami. Number 12, Dallas Cowboys, another huge franchise, another big fan base. I got him taking Reuben Bain Jr., the edge, out of Miami. You know, I think this guy here is going to do a gods. And the Dallas Cowboys, uh, their only problems was defense because they could score with that two-headed monster receiver and the quarterback, and they got a nice little running, but they couldn't stop people. They couldn't pressure the passer. So you're going to have to go against Ruben Bain Jr. in my mouth two twice a year, uh, Kenny. And I think people in the Dallas edge rusher. Number 13, the Rams. I got them taking Kenyon Satiq, the tight end out of Oregon. We're in a 4-3-7 at the combine. This guy was our main focus for uh uh the quarterback there, Dante Moore at Oregon. And you could possibly, in a pinch, play wide receiver because it's 4-3-7, 4-3-8 speed. Excellent size at 245 pounds, 6'3. I know they got uh the other tight end there in uh Los Angeles, but this guy can put them over to a hint hump, gentlemen. The Rams have been right there the last two seasons going back to the bowl, but Kenyon Sadiq is that kind of guy, a tight end. I like uh I like Higbee. I think his name is Higbee, but you know, Kenyon Sadiq is on another level athletically. Uh number 14, the Baltimore Ravens. I got him taking Spencer Fano, the offensive tackle slash guard out of Utah, my second-rated offensive lineman, because this guy here, he has to protect Lamar Jackson inside. And Lamar likes to take off inside, and he's been hurt. You can argue that he's losing a step or what because of the injuries, but what better way to protect Lamar Jackson and keep him healthy than to take Spencer Fano, the big guard out of Utah. Number 15, the Buccaneers, who's in the NFC South with my Falcons. I got him taking the other edge rusher from Miami, Kenny and Marley, Akeem Mesador. You know, uh this guy, he he he is he is it. He has a good stab. Uh when I say stab, I'm not saying physically with a knife. I'm saying with his fist and arms to get into offensive tackles and rush the passer. They had a great one-two punch at the University of Miami. And Akeem Mesador is no joke, man. You know, I know Ruben Bain got all the uh attention, but Akeem Mesador, the edge. And they lost Levante David, a defender, too. So I think uh Akeem Mesador goes number 15 to the Buccaneers. And just messing around, number 22, on your charges, Marl. I got him taking the guard out of Penn State. I can't pronounce his first name, Olave Louiga Loney. The best pure uh guard, I think, in the offensive lineman in this draft. I think he's gonna do wonders with the two tackles that are coming back, you know. So I think there, and then, you know, my my sleeper, I think, is Peter Woods. I got him going to edge from Clemson going to the Bears at 25. I like him what he did. And Clemson had a horrific year. You know, you can argue some of the guys really wasn't into it under Dabble Swinney, but Peter Woods is a great size, great edge rusher at Clemson. And uh, you know, the Bills, I got him taking the Georgia Bulldogs, Kenny. I'm a Georgia fan. CJ Allen, the linebacker. Matt Milano's Matt Milano's always hurt. They need a young cat like CJ Allen, who is a defensive captain, a Kirby Smart's middle linebacker, able to call defenses and all that. So yeah, I that those those are my top three. I gave you a few uh tidbits and I'll post it on X. But yeah, I is there anything that you guys are interested in? I have to name them, but I had to give you some uh tidbits there after the top 15 of Doc Mock. Go ahead. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

All right, Kenny. Kenny thoughts? You got you got a lot right there, Kenny. So you can dissect whatever you want or give your sleepers or or or whatever you got. What you got?

SPEAKER_00

You know what? I like what Coach said, to be honest. Um I was going to, you know, preparing for for for the draft itself, you know, I like to spend a little time going to s going through seeing what the so-called experts have to say. Uh I like coach's options better. I really do. I I'm I'm a really I'm I am a huge fan of uh been a big fan and I've been arguing with people he's a top ten kick. I was like, I don't think he's top ten. When he's at Alabama, I don't think people understand the depth and the talent at Alabama for a freshman to walk in and if a man a position the way he did.

SPEAKER_03

That's right.

SPEAKER_00

And then take his talent to another defense, another conference, and just dominate that as well. Look, if if my guys pull off the Caleb Downs sweepstakes, I'm telling you right now, I'm probably gonna throw a party for the next 15 days because I've been wanting this kid for I've been wanting this kid for the longest.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, and that'll that'll give you an A plus. And these guys, Sonny Styles and the Caleb Downs I got going to the Giants, they they they they'll be there for eight to ten years. They'll get their second contract with the Giants to go with Diffitaux and and the other cats there. So good luck, man. Right there, you're in the playoffs, you know. And uh defensively, you might be in the top ten, top five, just with two rookies, you know. These are athletes, Marley, and playmakers. So yeah, good job on that, Kenny. And I appreciate the props, brother. Yeah. Uh now the some of the drafts have been made in the second and third round. A couple of sleepers, you know. Uh I think uh some of these liners here, they're not getting props, like Caleb Lulum Lamou out of uh Utah, the other tackle. He's gonna be good. Monroe Freeling, the kid from Georgia, I got going to Detroit. So, you know, there's gonna be always some sleep. You got some speeds to receive us in a small black school. So it's gonna be interesting, Martin, going forward in the day two and day three of the draft. So I'm in it, baby. Bring it. I know you want to go get into the NBA, but go ahead.

Kyler Murray’s Vikings Fit

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely, absolutely. Real quick, before we do that, uh Doc, I want your thoughts on so so as I said earlier, it's uh uh uh it's uh OU Tyler uh Arizona over now to four four and uh you know somewhat of a deep play off front so what do you think Minnesota can do with Kyler on its one-year deal, especially a prove a deal to just so that he can still play in the league?

SPEAKER_03

Who are you asking, Mark?

SPEAKER_04

You, you, Doc, you.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I think it's Girl Gotzan. I think he's a better pure passer than the kid that's always injured in McCarthy. I didn't like him coming into the draft to begin with, you know, uh McCarthy. Uh and I tell you why. Because Michigan was a running team back then. They didn't depend on McCarthy to win football games. Indiana, also in the Big Ten, they depended wholeheartedly on Fernando Mendoza. The running back was nice, but that was Mendoza's team. So it's a difference there. Plus, McCarthy can't stay healthy, and they need him. They tracked him in the top 10, so they have an egg on their face. But to answer your question directly, I think Collin knows this is his second chance, and I love him at OU when he won the Heisman. The guy has an arm uh arm talent out the yin-yang, and he can run. Now he's a little older, and I think Minnesota has a uh decent offensive line where he can go and make his business. But when you have Justin Jefferson and get out the pocket and throw, throw darts, I think it's uh he's gonna help. And then you got the quarterback, uh, I mean the head coach. He's a quarterback lover, uh uh whisperer, if you will. Uh he's one of those guys where uh he can he can work with Kyler, you know. He he gave wonders for Kirk Cousins, you know. So that being said, I think that's gonna be uh a tremendous offense up there in in Minnesota with Justice Jeffins. And he's could start being getting the rock lashes, so you know he's gonna have a great year. But uh yeah, I love him at OU. I ain't tripping. Go ahead, Kenny.

SPEAKER_02

I am all for Tyler, Minnesota.

SPEAKER_00

I think well, like I told Marlon, he hasn't had a defense since he played at Allen High School. When you go back to the when you go back to the Oklahoma teams, that was during the state, uh uh very end of the the Mike Seuss era, going to the Alex French era, and uh those OU defenses were not as dominant as the defenses we knew in the in the 70s under Barry Switzer into the 80s and even even uh uh the run that uh Bob Seuss had from 99 to 15, right? So if you go back and look at look at those Oklahoma scores, they were they were they were 45-48, 50 to 27, 515. That Oklahoma offense was so prolific, but the defense was so bad that Kyler and that offense had to put up big numbers. Then you look at the Arizona team, and everybody wants to point out the receivers he had. Well, Lady Fitzgrove was really on his way out.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

DeAndre Hopkins was really outside his prime. He had a little bit left in the tank. Uh he got a young Marvin Harrison Jr. Uh he didn't have much run support. The offensive line was consistently terrible. The defense last year was a uh uh Google to figure out who's gonna play defense, as far as I was concerned. So now you're putting him on a Minnesota Vikings defense that's been top five, top ten. You're giving him weapons that are still in their prime with Addison, um, and and my boy uh Jefferson. And I get it. My boy's on uh what's his name? The running back is uh running back. Um Jones, I get Jones usually he's gonna have a soft tissue injury at some point during the season. Wow.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But when he when he gets back, it is from Green Bay, yeah. Yeah, he always has that soft issue injury, tissue injury, hamstrings somewhere between weeks five and twelve, right? But then when he comes back, he's just he's hard to bring down. So now Kyler doesn't have it's not all on Kyler. He's gonna he's gonna be throwing, he's gonna have routes that are just you know, go routes, it's gonna be uh a safety valve to jump off to. You have your intermediate to deep routes. I think this is the perfect offense for his skill set. And not only that, if the offense is struggling, which you're gonna which is gonna happen in that division, you have a defense that you can hang your hat on.

SPEAKER_03

That's right. That's right. That's an excellent response, man, relative to Collars impact and the Minnesota Vikings up there. Yeah. Good job, Kenny.

NBA Playoffs Shockers And Picks

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely. Okay. All right, so on to the uh the NBA, of course, the the playoffs going on right now. It's it's uh you have uh Thunder 1-0, Lakers are one-on-one right now. I believe they're getting ready to kick off right now. Um Denver and Timberwolves, they're tied one and one, so that's gonna be interesting. Uh spars and at this point, they're tied. I'm sorry, uh Spurs are uh leading one zero. Um they're tied one-on-one. Next talk. You know, Doc will talk about that in a second. They're tied one-on-one. Calves are two-the Raptors and the um Magdex are uh surprisingly beating the piston. So um, so I'll I'll start with this, Doc. What were your thoughts prior to the playoff starting? Because we didn't record last week. So your predictions on the NBA playoffs, who'd you have?

SPEAKER_03

Well, I thought OKC and the West and San Antonio were gonna walk through the playoffs like nobody was business. And then in the east, I thought Boston and Detroit were gonna do the same. But as we've seen, you know, we just chaos, you know. So I love it. I love this in NBA playoffs, man. Detroit flat, I got bombed by Orlando. Well, let's give respect to that because they blew out Charlotte in the play-in. These guys got athletes. They can put the ball in a hole with with Suggs and um Buckaro, and and and this they the Celtics lost tonight to the Sixers without your LMB. And so I didn't see that coming, if you ask me, what prior to the playoffs. And in the West, of course I gotta mention my Atlanta Hawks getting, you know, shocking New York in the East, but you know, it's one of those things where I thought we at least get two guys. I didn't expect one in New York, you know, because we don't have no superstar. You know, we we let Trey Young go. He was a he was a headache. But I I'll take it. And in the West, you know, uh you you see what San Antonio's struggle with Portland, but it's one of those things where you just okay, scene seems to be the consistent thing here. And I prior to the playoffs, you didn't see this happening, whether it's it's the Spurs, because we love Wimby. But Denver going down last night. I didn't see that coming. You know, I know Minnesota has matchup problems for Denver, but Denver was at the crib, you know, and they was up 19 or something, some sick number, Kenny. How the hell did they lose? I went to bed, I wake up, you know. Minnesota Wars. And you know, uh Anthony Edwards has one wheel one leg, so give him props of gutting it out. You know, he's playing on a bad wheel. So to answer your question directly, a lot of things that I didn't see prior are happening, and I love chaos, but damn, man. Yeah, go ahead, Kenny.

SPEAKER_00

Well honestly, I came into this playoffs and I just assumed, hey, the Western Conference is gonna be a matchup between Oklahoma City and San Antonio. And I just thought, hey, just give me just give me the Celtics out of out of the east. Um but what these first two games have shown me is man, you just can't sleep on anybody. You just can't sleep on anybody.

SPEAKER_03

No. Not at all.

SPEAKER_00

I really thought, you know, my my other team, the Knicks, this would kind of be a cakewalk for maybe not a cakewalk, but I I figured this would be maybe a a 4-1-2 type type series. Um, especially after the run they went on last week, but Atlanta is scrappy. They are a scrappy, they are a scrappy bunch. Um, and another series that has me a tree is uh the Toyota uh magic series.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I yeah, I didn't think that to be interesting. Um, but after game one, I was hooked. So I I believe the east is gonna be a little bit more of a battle than I thought. But as far as the West, I Wimby is a freak. I mean, the way he dominated the game the other night is just not fair. Um but I still think the West is gonna come down to OKC and San Antonio.

SPEAKER_03

Right on, brother. Right on. I I agree totally, you know, especially OKC Martin, who doesn't look like they have a blip, but these I just everybody shocked at Miles Hawkes. How the hell do the 76ers walk into Boston, Marlon and Kenny, and beat win that game without MB, who I think is soft. He's weak. I'm a big man, Kenny, and I just don't like his game. He won one MVP. But get credit Maxie and credit edge com rookie. So I gotta see the highlights. I you definitely didn't see that happening. You would have lost your ass in Vegas if you put money on Boston covering at home, you know. You know, at least Atlanta went on an 18-2 run to close the year out, and you say, okay, well, they are dangerous, you know, with Jalen Johnson and my hawks and and and and uh you know some of the other cats, that guy can daniel. But but who the hell is the 76ers other than Maxi and Hcomb, you know? And and out here in the West, Minnesota, I've referenced Kenny. This this is good stuff. I like Edwards, Ant-Man, you know, and Chad is sick right now, Marlon. You know Chad. Kenny knows Chad Chad is sick. Yeah. And now we gotta go to Minnesota. So yeah, these are the NBA players. This is why we love the game of basketball. I played it all my life, Kenny. You probably have some skills in your passions. Marlon was a track guy, but NBA, you know, basketball is simple. Just put the ball in the hoop and defend the other guy. And there's some skill out there that is shocking people as we speak. You know, look at what Portland's doing on the road in San Antonio, but I digress. Yeah, so yeah, so yeah, there you go, brother. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Go ahead. Last last last uh last uh thoughts, Kenny, and then we'll go ahead and go to baseball.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. I mean, I agree. Um, and you pointed out one other team I went, oh, the Celtics. The thing that kills me about the Celtics, since with the Jason Tatum and the Brown era, when they become disinterested with a team, they like to play with their food. And that always they always end up in series that they should not be in. So if if it's anything like it's been in the past, I bet they're playing with their food. But what is going to be interesting is I believe Kate K he's supposed to play tonight. He's back tonight, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, supposedly. Allegedly.

SPEAKER_00

We'll we'll see. If he gets if he comes back, I think that Lakers Rocket series can turn to something really interesting. If not, I I just think look, as old as LeBron is, his knowledge of the game and and how to play the game um is better than all the Rockets combined. I think that that series will go by fast. But if KB comes back, I think that series can be can get real interesting.

Kobe Vs LeBron And Jordan Debate

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's a good point. Marlon, you're a Laker. And I don't think I've asked Marlon this, Kenny. But as great as LeBron is in the numbers he put up out here in Los Angeles, you know, I had the benefit of living. They still love Kobe, man. Kobe's their guy. Uh, but LeBron is. What do you think, Marlon? You're a Laker. Kobe or LeBron right now. It's always gonna be Kobe. I'm not even gonna ask you about his place. It's always gonna be.

SPEAKER_04

But it was it was more so when when I was coming up, it was either uh because of course Jordan was on the tail end of his career when uh when the Lakers were uh three feet era and all that stuff, but you know, in the early 2000s, it was like the Red Kobe was one of the other and you know you left whatever they played, where they twenty four twenty one of them collabs, but the coffee was just a dark twenty four to the red twenty everyone. Also to be quite different as well. But no, it's it's still Kobe all the day. It's still Kobe Town, Kobe City. LeBron just came. I mean, yes, they won the bubble championship, but Kobe did more for LA, California, whatever you want to more than LeBron could could ever do. So no, it's it's still it's still Kobe all day. All day, every day.

SPEAKER_03

Right on. Right on. Now, Kenny, Jordan or LeBron? Your call. Be careful now. You know.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, okay. I respect the numbers.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I respect the largevity. However, I have this argument with argument with my pops. For me, it's joy.

SPEAKER_03

Right. I agree.

SPEAKER_00

I say this and I'm not gonna count the chest because that's gonna be disrespectful to the likes of the Bill Russell's, uh, the Koreans and and the guys that came before. But when I look at the two I I have a game for killers, man. I like guys who are just that are that are killers. And it doesn't matter if if it's he's shooting bad like he did against that game in uh I think it was the Portland 81 81 sixth or something, and then coming back the next night, and it's no excuses. We're not blaming this guy and the other. It's is hey, I didn't I didn't do my part. And he comes back the next night and he gets it, man. I get LeBron is great off ball defense, health side defense. I'll give him that. But there's something about slapping the floor and locking your man down.

MLB Surprises And Early Standings

SPEAKER_03

That's right. That's right. That's a very good point. And Jordan was a nine-time first team all defender, and and Kobe was too tied Jordan for that. It's something about playing two ways in defense, you know. So, and LeBron only has five. So there you go. Now, you can say LeBron is uh uh, you know, he he loves his numbers and all that, and you know, he stayed long. But LeBron had his impact, you know, it's a different skill set, different skill set. Now, Kobe was a volume shooter and a defender. Jordan was a volume shooter, and he had to for his team. So yeah, so I respect LeBron as Kenny referenced, Marlon. I had to ask that question to get it off. So yeah. Go ahead, Marlon.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, all right, so on to um on this on some baseball. We're uh what are we about, 25 uh or so games in right now? Yankees are on on top of the L East, uh Cleveland's on top of the L Central, AL West, you got the Athletics, and then um your Braves. Your Braves Doc on the L East. Uh Central, you got the Reds, and of course the Dodgers uh on top right now. So um Doc, I'll go ahead and start with you. Just thoughts overall on what we've seen on the season thus far for this um month and uh and some changes though. So thoughts thoughts on uh MLB thus far this season?

SPEAKER_03

I'm disappointed in the Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros in that defiant. I saw a big big bumper. It was too much to ask to have 60 home runs again, but they started off slow, and I still think they're floundering. I expect them all out of Orioles. And the Yankees will come around, they have a slow start. They they they recently got on a little winning streak. So the AL is still wide open, in my opinion. And, you know, and uh Houston's having a dreadful year, Astros. They always up there in the playoffs line, but they're dreadful. Um I just think that uh the Yankees in the East and uh nobody's talking about the Twins, Kenny, with the keeping eye on Minnesota. And uh I I think in the ALS, you know, the Angels start off pretty good. Trout has to stay healthy. Um I mentioned Seattle's disappointment. But in the National League, gentlemen, my Braves, I'm so happy that we've gotten over the injury, but with Ronald Acunia now. We have some pitching issues with Francis Strider and the other one, Kenny. I've been a Braves fan for almost 50 years. But we we we we lost tonight. But we're 16 and 8. We're six games up because the Mets and Phillies are flying. That's atrocious, by the way. And uh it's one of those things where we'll we'll we'll probably compete for the International East. Uh the Padres are only one game back tonight at and and you know it at the Dodgers, the powerful Dodgers, you know. So we'll see uh what's going on there. Uh, can it be the season's still young now, but I like the Padres to do some numbers. I'm the Dodgers' dominance is gone to me. So we'll see how that goes. And Marlin, that's your team. Uh the Cubbies, I still think the Cubbies can make a run. I know the Pirates were skiing, Kenny. They're dangerous, but it's still early, man. Pirates are doing their thing with crews. And uh, but I I like I like I like uh Cincinnati. I like that kid, man. You know, Dela Cruz, whatever his name is. He's nice. So we'll see how I go on that, you know. Yeah. It's too early, fellas, but Kenny, your take on what you've seen so far.

SPEAKER_00

So there's been some surprises and some major disappointments for sure. Um the the the disappointment for me is certainly uh starting in American League would be uh you said the Astrals and the Manors. I I now I know the Astrals typically start off slow.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And they hang and they hang around in that division, and then after the all-star break, I don't know what it is, but from July and August, they just tend to eat up. Uh so I'm I'm not gonna count them out. Like you said, it's a lot of ball left. Uh, I did expect the manners to come out a little bit stronger. I did like the way they they ended the season last year.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I the way they ended, I felt like maybe they're a year or two away from really contending. Uh I like the Yankees. Um that ALE's is gonna be it's gonna be an interesting division. Um I think it's only five games that separates the Yankees from uh the bottom dweller uh Red Sox who I can't stand. Um I did expect another disappointing uh team that's kind of disappointed right now for me is the Blue Jays. Uh just coming off what I thought was one heck of a World Series run last year, that uh quite honestly is probably one of the best World Series I've watched since maybe the 2001 Yay Diamondback World Series, uh I think is pretty good. Um I just got that momentum of propellant. But you know, last year they kind of started I wanna say slow, but as year went on, I mean they they kicked up steams, so there's certainly some hope for them. Uh at the National League, I who would have thought you would have saw the Mons above 500 at one point. I know they're too too under, but there's a point this season where they were actually undefeated, so I couldn't believe it. Um I don't expect them to maintain that, uh, but I do have the Braves taking that division. Uh the Central, I think it's gonna be a slug fest. I think that was gonna come down to the wire. Every team is above 500. That is rare. So yeah. Uh and that typically is a tough division that goes down the stretch. And in the West, to me, it's gonna be coming down to the Dodgers and Padres. Will the Padres have enough to overtake the Dodgers? I think as far as that's concerned, concerned, it's really gonna come down to pitching. I think bat for bat they line up really well. Um, but it's gonna be can the Padre pitchers line up arm for arm with the Dodgers.

Wrap-Up And Next Week Preview

SPEAKER_03

That's a good response, Kenny. The Lakers just kicked off. Uh Portland did win that game, by the way, fellas off off off chalk here. Damn, in San Antonio. So this is this is the NBA playoffs, Kenny, and I love chaos. You know, won enough chaos for me. Well, actually in the NCAA, I had I had Duke winning it all in Arizona in the championship game, and they both didn't make some props to Michigan. But I love chaos. This is why we love sports, gentlemen. But yeah, this is good talking. This is good stuff, and we're gonna get you back on here real soon, brother. All right, Kenny? Yeah. Good job. I love it, love it.

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely, absolutely. All right, Doc. Good job, Marlon. Um, you got anything else for us we get out of here, Doc?

SPEAKER_03

No, no, I love this dialogue with with uh especially his top five on this particular team with the old school and original people and and and and uh inland tunnel. That just blew me away. Good job on that. So we'll we'll we'll get you back on here. Good dialogue, Kenny. Love you, man. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I love you too, man. Appreciate you for having me on. I mean, this Lamar approached me, I was like, yeah, we definitely gotta do this. So I mean, I told him I'm taking out some of the other episodes, man. I I am a I am a full-fledged fan.

SPEAKER_04

That's right. Good job. We we appreciate you for listening. So yeah, well, yeah, next week uh it's gonna be a great one because um, of course, we'll dive into the the draft recap and and uh you know I'm I'm hoping we get some trades. I don't think we have a trade uh with your team, but I want to see some next one. Uh within that first day of just a major three uh three five three down, or whatever the case is. I want to see it so far. We'll definitely have some good uh recap for uh next week. So definitely looking forward to the draft. Um uh and and be a playoffs too as well. Uh we'll probably get somebody on that knows a little bit about hockey, so we can talk about that too. So that does it. But yeah, but not Kenny, appreciate you for joining, man. We'll definitely get you back on soon, man.

SPEAKER_00

Uh man, appreciate for having me on. It's certainly a pleasure.

SPEAKER_04

Of course. Absolutely, brother.

SPEAKER_00

God bless.

SPEAKER_04

All right, we'll catch you guys next week. Peace. Peace.
